Hi hwonhwon, thanks for sharing this. Aside from this milk yogurt drink, Chocolate pie is also a classic food in the Army.  Soldiers receive the complementary Choco Pie cookie every Sunday. On the Day 1 inside the camp, all unnecessary items you brought in are returned back home. Prohibited items are mobile phones, MP3 & jewelries. BEFORE - technology gadgets are not allowed in the military - this is also the reason why military restricts soldiers access to the public even to their family & loved-ones, causing concern among military leaders that high military secrets could be leaked. I read that now more than 500,000 males are enlisted. I heard that mobile phones now are allowed inside the military but it depends on the base where you’re stationed. A lot of bases now have regular Internet access, although a lot of them (particularly those on the front line) do no have yet. Completely free Internet access is generally not available, given the understandable security concerns. After the four-week basic training is over, the soldiers now are generally free to use the phone after the day's schedule is over. - NOW - The Ministry of National Defense has distributed mobile phones to military barracks last (2015). They distributed one mobile phone for a group of eight to 10 soldiers in a barrack to share so that they could use it during free periods after working hours or during weekends. For security reasons, the phones will be programmed only to receive calls and will not be smartphones. The military explained that soldiers will be able to send text messages to ask their relatives to call them. The military has test-run the phone service in frontline units also before they expand it to other barracks nationwide. While serving mandatory for security reasons, military personnel must not take part in commercial activities especially when working in the Defence Media Agency. At the same time, soldiers/recruits who are serving their national service cannot engage in any profit-making activity, even if they are on leave unless related to military stuff.

Also, after serving 100 days inside the army, you’ll be granted another vacation for about 1-week to spend this with your loved-ones. There’s a standard 35 days of leave given to ordinary soldiers and have a maximum of 50 days of break. However, the 30 celebrity soldiers that were discharged after year 2010 had an average vacation that was 76.4 days. However, since last year, the special leave has been decreasing. Now the celebrity vacation leave is similar to ordinary soldiers. But special considerations are allowed for celebrity soldiers. The reason why celebrities receive more vacation days than ordinary soldiers is because they’re often required to participate in a wide variety of activities in promoting the Korean military overseas. Currently, well-known TV entertainers who are asked to participate in the military's public relations campaigns get more rewards. Under this system, the more events an enlisted man participates in, the more rewards he receives. This cause a problem to so many that’s why they’re considering ways now to make the system more fair.

Hi rossy, thanks for sharing this. After having been issued with proper military gear the recruits undergo medical check-up & aptitude test. Their civilian clothes are also sent back to their homes, along with a letter. On Day 2/3, while having a lecture session, military occupational specialty evaluation is conducted for each recruit. On Day 4, they’re now transferred to different Training Regiments. They’ll learn basic military skills & knowledge for (5) weeks. Recruits will receive firearms. There Firearm Familiarization Training starts - They have to become familiar with their BF, which is their firearms by having them close with them for 24-hrs either when eating or while sleeping.   During the 1st (3) days on training, recruits receive basic training from how to wear combat uniform to military disciplines. Week 1 will be physical fitness (this is more than 1-hr every morning), Basic Drill & Guarding.  Week by week, the weight of gear is increased to prepare for marching. Week 2, Shooting Training. The training is carried out individually & recruits must shoot 60% & above to pass. Week 3, Grenade (grenade throwing training), CBR (this is where the gas mask takes place), First-Aid. Week 4, Combined Outdoor Training. Combined because this is both a battlefield on night time & daytime trainings. Here, there’s a 30-km march in FULL gear. Recruits returning to the base after 8-hrs of marching. Week 5, Moral Education. (this is the last phase) Meanwhile, recruits are starting to clean & carry out maintenance on their firearms & equipment so the next batch of recruits can start using them. Last: Completion Ceremony-
