Once upon a time (actually not too long ago), K-dramas were all about the supernatural stuff. There were aliens (“My Love from the  Stars“), time travel (“Dr. Jin,” “Rooftop Prince“), mermaids (“Surplus Princess“), body switching (“Secret Garden“), and other out-of-this-world plot themes. Recently, though, the trend has shifted to fit the following theme:

Real mental and cognitive disorders.

A little confused? These examples will clear up how this recent K-drama trend is everywhere and inescapable.

***Be warned there may be spoilers for “It’s Okay, That’s Love.”

Befitting a story where the main female character is a psychiatrist, “It’s Okay, That’s Love” is filled with people suffering from mental disorders.

class="p1" style="font-weight: normal; margin: 0px; padding: 20px 0px 0px; border: 0px; border-image-source: initial; border-image-slice: initial; border-image-width: initial; border-image-outset: initial; border-image-repeat: initial; font-family: 'Open Sans', 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, sans-serif; font-stretch: inherit; line-height: 1.4em; font-size: 21px; vertical-align: baseline; color: rgb(63, 63, 64); visibility: visible; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);"Genophobia

30000398646

The list wouldn’t be complete without the psychiatrist herself with a broken past. Until Jo In Sung’s character came along, Gong Hyo Jin‘s character had been severely traumatized by her mother’s affair in the past and could not sleep with a man, no matter how convinced she was that she loved him. Genophobia, the irrational fear of sex, has many known causes, and childhood trauma is one of them. For more information, click here.

Lee Kwang Soo‘s character suffers from a cognitive disorder called Tourette syndrome. Tourette syndrome is characterized by the existence of motor or vocal tics, unwanted movements or noises that one does not have control over. In “It’s Okay, That’s Love,” Lee Kwang Soo’s character learns to stop hating himself for his disorder and grows to love himself with the help of the people around him. Jo In Sung brilliantly portrays a writer suffering from schizophrenia induced by childhood trauma. His symptoms include obsessions and compulsions, as well as full blown auditory and visual hallucinations – SPOILER ALERT – of Do Kyungsoo portraying his younger self. Schizophrenia comes with many symptoms and forms; for more information, click here.

‘Producer’ Gong Hyo-jin becomes charismatic producer of Music Bank

Actress Gong Hyo-jin became a charismatic, funky producer. She is expected to show viewers her cool transformation ahead with her new role.

KBS 2TV’s first entertainment drama, ‘Producer’(script written by Park Ji-eun, directed by Pyo Min-su and Seo Soo-min), which will start airing in early May, released stills of Gong Hyo-jin for fans and viewers who are waiting for the premiere.

Gong Hyo-jin was cast to play the role of ‘Tak Ye-jin’ the producer who works at the entertainment division of KBS. She is in charge of ‘Music Bank’, and is known for her impetuous and headstrong personality.

According to a source, Gong Hyo-jin has hardly any trouble getting absorbed in her character. Moreover, she is said to enjoy playing Tak Ye-jin very much. “She is inhabiting her role,” said one of the staffs. The photo released radiates chic charms of Gong Hyo-jin.

“Gong Hyo-jin is Tae Ye-ji herself. We are really looking forward to showing her to our viewers soon. You might as well fall for her,” said another staff from the production team.

'Producer' Released First Video Teasers With Kim Soo Hyun, Cha Tae Hyun, Gong Hyo Jin And IU
5wallpaperproducer_zpsjseejymx-1-jpg.jpg

The first video footage for the upcoming drama, "Producer," was released on April 17. The videos provide interaction between the series key stars but each segment is formatted like a variety show rather than a generic Korean drama teaser.

One segment depicts a meeting between Cha Tae Hyun and Kim Soo Hyun. Cha Tae Hyun ironically points out the awkwardness of two men sitting together, who are being filmed in the reality show style.

The actors then attempt to find similarities and discuss their college days. Cha Tae Hyun attended the Graduate School of Mass Communications at Chung-Ang University, while Kim Soo Hyun completed the undergraduate program at the same college. With this knowledge, the stars provide context to their senior-junior relationship and establishes the hiearchy which will be present in the drama.

The conversation then shifts to Kim Soo Hyun's decision to join the "Producer" cast. He worked with the scriptwriter for the upcoming series during "My Love From The Star," which was his primary reason for joining the project. In this sense, this initial footage is unique. The teasers provide an opportunity to watch the stars interact in a more realistic manner. It is less like an interview than a conversation.

"Producer" has the potential to be one of the most unique Korean dramas to date, due to the inclusion of producer-director, Seo Soo Min. Seo Soo Min has previously worked on "1 Day, 2 Nights." Art immitates life in the drama. The initial photo teaser for "Producer" featured Cha Tae Hyun as a producer of the variety series.

Information about Gong Hyo Jin's role was released prior to the video segments. She will portray Tak Ye Jin, a "Music Bank" producer. She is depicted as a gritty rocker in the photo, having earned the nickname of the Fighting Chicken of the Variety Department, after 10 years in the industry.

The actress is also depicted in a video segment with IU. Their interaction progresses with the same continuity as the previous teaser.

"Producer" will premiere on May 8.

Producer_poster.png

Producer may be one of the most anticipated K-dramas of the year, but so far, the production team has been keeping a tight lid on info about the series. Now we're finally getting our first look at the star-studded cast with the first poster and stills featuring Kim Soo HyunIUGong Hyo Jin, and Cha Tae Hyun.

The poster depicts all four leads, and it sets a lighthearted tone for the series with their smiling faces. It looks like speculation on a Gong Hyo Jin-Kim Soo Hyun-IU love triangle might be correct since both leading ladies are tugging on the handsome star. (Is anyone else unsettled by how happy Gong Hyo Jin looks to be strangling him? No? Just me?) Of course, that doesn't mean that Cha Tae Hyun won't turn it into a love square as the series progresses.

The first stills show Cha Tae Hyun and Gong Hyo Jin in character as veteran PDs. Kim Soo Hyun will play a rookie PD, and IU will play a K-pop star.

The stills don't really give us that much information, but it's a start! Producer is set for 12 episodes, and it will be premiering on May 8 exclusively on DramaFever! Sign up for new episode alerts HERE.

'Producer' drops first poster, still, and bts pictures with Kim Soo Hyun, Gong Hyo Jin, IU, and Cha Tae Hyun

IU-Kim-Soo-Hyun-gong-hyo-jin-cha-tae-hyu

Highly anticipated KBS 2TV drama 'Producer,' with its star-studded cast including Kim Soo HyunIUGong Hyo Jin, and Cha Tae Hyun, dropped its very first poster of the radiant stars.  It already shows the relationships among the characters as Gong Hyo Jin smiles brightly at the camera but her hands inch toward Kim Soo Hyun's neck to choke him.  On the other hand, IU is clinging to his arm while Cha Tae Hyun watches the three of them with an amused look on his face.

They also dropped the first still shot from the set on April 17, showing a tough-looking Gong Hyo Jin dressed as a rocker punk with a choker, black leather jacket, and dark eyeliner.  What might be going on for her to have that somewhat sad look in her eyes?

The production company complimented the actress on her ability to perfectly take on the character as well as her changing images.  As Tak Ye Jin, she smiles quickly and is clumsy, but overall lovable as Gong Hyo Jin always is.

The first episode will air on May 8!
