Actress Moon Geun-young is appearing on the silver screen for the first time in 10 years as another historically famous figure, Lady Hyegyeong, who is the wife of Crown Prince Sado. 

“I analyzed my character as a multilayered one who has a dilemma as Sado’s wife and also as crown princess,” she said.

“I approached my character as one of the influences who led Sado to end up like that,” she added.

The film, which opens nationwide on Wednesday, was selected last week as the contender for the 2016 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film by the Korean Film Council.

‘The Throne’ tops advance ticket sales chart

Period film “The Throne” topped the advance ticket sales chart on the day of its release Wednesday.

According to Korean Film Council, “The Throne” accounted for 54 percent of advance ticket sales with sales of more than 100,000 tickets. 

The film portrays the conflict between Joseon Dynasty’s King Yeongjo, who wanted to be a dominating ruler at all times, and the affection-deprived Prince Sado, who yearned for his father’s recognition. 

The role of Sado is played by actor Yoo Ah-in, whose recent crime-action work “Veteran” is currently storming the box office and advancing in North America and broader parts of Asia.

Moon Geun-young cuts hair for "The Village: Achiara's Secret"

 

 

Moon Geun-young cut her 5-year grown hair for the new SBS drama "The Village: Achiara's Secret".

This is the first time in 5 years she's cut her hair since the drama "Cinderella's Sister". However, she says she didn't hesitate for a second as she is excited about her new attempt.

"I am usually interested in suspense so I am quite thrilled for this one. The character of Han So-yoon that I play is very intriguing. I cut by waist-length hair first because I wanted to look ready".

So-yoon is from Canada. She works as an English teacher in the Village of Achiara when one day she comes across a buried dead body.

So-yoon is impassive, according to Moon Geun-young. "I thought if my character was too strong then the flow of the story might disperse. However, I think the case alone stands out thanks to So-yoon's impassiveness. She suits the genre well and I was able to add some color of my own as well".

An SBS official said, "Moon Geun-young appeared with short hair. She cut the hair that she'd grown for such a long time to become Han So-yoon. She's also been constantly asking the director and writers for advice about the drama".

What looks like an ordinary village, peaceful Achiara turns around into chaos when dead bodies buried in the ground are discovered. "The Village: Achiara's Secret" is written by Do Hyeon-jeong and directed by Lee Yong Suk. The first episode can be seen on the 7th of October.

Short Hairstyles Are Chic For K-Drama Heroines In Fall 2015

Actress Moon Geun Young cut her hair short for the first time in five years for her upcoming role in the SBS drama, "The Village: Achiara"s Secret."

On September 17, Newsen published a photo featuring the actress and her newly shorn locks.  According to the report, the last drama where the actress sported short hair was the 2010 drama, "Cinderella Sister." 

 

 

The 28-year-old actress who is known by the nickname, the nation"s little sister, adopted the hairstyle to embrace the role of Kim So Yoon. So Yoon is an English language instructor who is assigned to a peaceful, small town that is known for its lack of crime. The tranquility of the provincial setting is upended when she discovers a dead body. 

 

"I wanted to show the viewers a concrete portrayal of Kim So Yoon," said Moon, in her statement published by Newsen. 

A representative for the production team at SBS also weighed in on her commitment to the role and willingness to embrace a new look. "Moon appears to have roughly cut her long hair because of on-going commitment and passion for the role," said the spokesperson.

As a star who is noted for her melodramatic roles, Moon is expected to deliver a strong performance in the murder mystery series. She is joined by BtoB"s Yook Sung Jae who will take on the role of police officer, Park Woo Jae, a man who is hell-bent on solving the mystery behind the murders. 

 

While Moon Geun Young has wavy short hair for her upcoming role, Hwang Jung Eum takes on a curly, unkempt bob for her portrayal of publishing intern Kim Hye Jin in "She Was Pretty." Once a beautiful heiress, Hye Jin plays second fiddle to the hotelier, Min Ha Ri (Go Joon Hee). Ha Ri also sports a short hairdo, proving that there are alternatives to long, flowing locks. 

Kim Tae Hee embraced a different look for the second half of "Yong Pal." While she is known for her beautiful hair, she takes on a blunt cut as she seeks revenge against the people who ruined her life.
