Can You Speak Asian?!

I've never had someone ask 'do you speak Asian?' but I had a really serious argument with some stupid people who didn't believe that China was in 'Asia' and that I am "Asian'. They kept on saying I was Chinese not Asian. I actually had to give them a geography lesson to make them believe I was in fact Asian from Asia and that Asian is an ethnicity. -____-'

thank God i live in Asia, so no one asks me that. at least I know not to ask people if they can speak mexican or african

My physics teacher was talking about the light spectrum in class one day and randomly he was talking about what different languages referred to the color red as and he looks at me and asks me "what's the word for red in Asian?"..and I just stared at him for about 5 seconds with this look of disbelief on my face and said I didn't know. Possibly because I don't know what language "Asian" is.. . Funnnnny memory though heheh.

i always get that im chinese.

im not chinese, i can't speak cantonese or mandarin.

i can relate to fellow soompiers too,

when talking about china in class,

the teachers always look at me for reference.

but then that just shows me how uneducated the brain of those that ask.

It's happened and I hate it.

Person: Can you speak Asian.

Me: Uhm no, but I can speak Cantonese. That's Chinese for you.

Yea it happened to me once. I was at the mall with my cousin when these high school kids walked by and one idiot actually said "Can you speak Asian?" and laughed as he walked away with his friends. I replied "Fluently, can you?" and had my own laugh when he just gave me this look---> .

Best thing to do is to turn the table and make them look like the idiot that they really are.LOL.

=__________= what idiots. i get the same question, and sometimes they start blabbering away in gibberish (what they believe to be chinese/vietnamese/etc). personally, i get offended and tell them to shut up (which is very immature of me too, but it happened when i was like, 5? ). now, i just ignore them.

I don't think anyone has asked me that question before, but if I get asked that question in the future, I'd glare at them and walk away. Or ask them an equally stupid question and walk away.
