Van Ness Wu’s Japanese single “Reason” debuts on Channel [V] countdown at #4!

Over a month ago, Taiwanese actor/singer Van Ness Wu unleashed his incredible Japanese track “Reason” for Jpop fans to enjoy, and after enjoying some time basking in the ears of music listeners, Van Ness’ third Japanese single debuts on popular Channel [V]’s top ten in the East Asian pop music category! This category, which covers the latest and trendiest beats in East Asia outside of Mandopop, is listed with all sorts of A-list artists, and for Van Ness to make an appearance on the chart is quite an accomplishment.

The song was announced on the program itself by none other than Da Mouth’s very own Japanese female vocalist Aisa and Canadian-Taiwanese rapper MC 40. The two, who form half of the most popular music group on the Mandopop charts now, introduced Van Ness’ debut entry onto the East Asian pop music category in typical fashion: with Aisa giddy over stud Van Ness, and MC 40 trying to figure out what Aisa says whenever Aisa starts ranting in Japanese. For those of you who don’t know, Aisa herself played a key role in helping Van Ness write the lyrics to the “Reason” track, so it’s exciting to know that Van Ness and Aisa have a nice collaboration going. Hopefully we’ll see more of their work together, because “Reason” is an awesome track.

Van Ness Wu’s life has been like a rollercoaster ride. It rapidly reaches its highs and then dives into its lows. He made it big with Meteor Garden and quickly accumulated a fortune, but he used it all to pay off his mother’s debt three years ago. More recently, he became the new king of idol drama with Autumn’s Concerto, but he was back in a scandal again with the arrest of his staff member.

Police recently discovered that an international drug trafficking organization has been using Chinese Americans to tranport and sell drugs locally. Their tips led them to Jimmy Hung and Van Ness Wu’s film company, Smash & Grab Productions. Staff member Chou Yi-Quan was found with a substantial amount of marijuana. His arrest in turn involved Jimmy Hung and Van Ness Wu into the scandal. The two have yet to be interviewed by the police at this point. They publicly denied that they were involved on the 21st and said they would cooperate with police to complete urine tests.

Chou Yi-Quan was originally referred by Jimmy Hung to work at their film company a year ago. He was hired as a producer and met Van Ness Wu when he started on the job. Half a year later, Van Ness Wu accepted his role in Autumn’s Concerto and needed an assistant to help with translating his scripts. The company then asked Chou Yi-Quan to assist him for two weeks.

Concerning his staff member's drug use, Van Ness Wu said he felt helpless on being dragged into scandal in addition to being stunned. He was originally scheduled to promote his album in Japan until March, but returned on the 21st to host an impromptu fan meeting and clarify his innocence. He stated that he has never used marijuana and will comply with doing a urine test if required.

Van Ness Wu already had a buzz cut when he went to the cover shoot back on February 6th. The hair dresser couldn’t style his hair because it was too short and had to trimmed it even shorter. At the time of the interview, he revealed that he had cut his hair for a short film he was shooting in the US back in January. After the scandal broke out, his buzz cut unexpectedly raised speculations that he had cut it to get rid of traces of the drug.

He said, “I was in Hokkaido at the time. (I) didn’t want to care when (I) heard the news. (I) didn’t even want to reply to text messages from friends, because the roaming charges were so expensive. My mom called and asked me to clarify myself to everyone. My family is praying for me.”

An epic fail indeed but not entirely his fault…..Autumn’s Concerto’s Van Ness Wu became the spokesperson for the free TTJ Bus service for the city of Taichung yesterday. He met with Mayor Jason Hu for the first time to promote their new Next Stop, Happiness public transit campaign. The two got to know each other a little better with a chit chat in English at the event. Van Ness said, “Mayor Jason Hu has a distinct personality. Very Powerful.”

Van Ness Wu was praised by Mayor Hu for his fluent English. He explained to the mayor that he had grown up in the US and returned the compliment by saying Mayor Hu’s “English is not bad” either. In response, the mayor said, “Do you know I was the foreign minister? (I do now.) You were too late! (I’m sorry.) Hey listen, the foreign minister of Taiwan gotta be something. (Yeah, definitely…) Did you know I’m graduated from Oxford? (I do now!) Haaaa! Shut up! He doesn’t know me at all. But I know him!”

In related news, the daughter of famous musician Peng Guang-Lin was arrested for using marijuana, following the recent drug bust of one of Van Ness Wu's employees. When asked about the news, he said he hasn’t done anything wrong, and is not in the position to speak on behalf of others.

Autumn’s Concerto reaches its last stop

Autumn’s Concerto (better known as Next Stop, Happiness in Chinese) arrived at its final stop this past Sunday. The hit drama ended with a 30-minute episode and took in an average rating of 8.07%. Fans were happy to see its lead characters, played by Van Ness Wu and Ady An, spend some quality time together, but they were also dissatisfied with the drama ending so abruptly.

The *intervals ratings (7.33% followed by 8.80%) seemed to indicate that viewers were just starting to warm up by the time Episode 21 finished. Those who patiently sat through the next drama got a little treat called P.S. Next Stop. The short special included outtakes from the finale, as well as the usual Van Ness-forgot-his-lines-again bloopers.

The successor to Autumn’s Concerto, P.S. Man (Tou Xin Da Sheng P.S. Nan), appeared to have benefited from its strong lead-in with an average rating of 4.57%. The new drama starring Blue Lan was off to a great start after being heavily promoted over the last few weeks. However, the *interval ratings showed a different story as episode 1 started with a high of 6.55% and finished with 3.35%. The first episode was rather slow and lacked the comic-timing of dramas in the same genre. This might be good news for Down With Love and Because Of You after all, since their ratings trailed behind at 2.84% and 0.46% respectively.

It remains to be seen if P.S. Man will pick things up when the other lead actor, James Wen, makes his debut next week. He has been on quite a streak with a Golden Bell-nominated performance on My Queen, a fan-favorite couple with Sonia Sui on The Happy Times of That Year, and even a cameo as Ady An’s father on Autumn’s Concerto.

Van Ness takes over Vic's role with the help of God

Due to change in Director and problems with the script, “The Killer Never Kills” project was put on hold. As reported previously, although Vic Chou has waited two months for the project, he will no longer be participating in it. Rumors say that Eddie Peng and Mike He were interested in taking over the project, but just yesterday, it was announced that the devoted Christian Van Ness Wu will be the one taking over the role.

Van Ness’ popularity skyrocketed after the smash hit idol drama, “Autumn’s Conerto,” which also crowned him the King in ratings. Van Ness reportedly received ten drama and three movie offers, but it has been confirmed that he will be taking up the “Killer Never Kills” project, which will resume its filming by the end of the month. Although Van Ness previously indicated that he would concentrate working on his upcoming album, he loved the character in “Killer” too much, so he accepted the role. In fact, Vic also recommended Van Ness to Film Mall, the movie production company, because he believes that Van Ness’ “gentle” appearance matches the role very well.

Van Ness, God, and bed scenes

After Van Ness Wu was baptized, he offered nearly all his time to the Church; God was his top priority.
