Super Junior announce long awaited comeback with teaser image for 7th album 'MAMACITA'

Get excited because Super Junior have officially announced their comeback with their 7th studio album 'MAMACITA'!

It seems the past rumors were right as the official release date of their album is September 1, but we will be seeing the boys before then as they hold their comeback stages starting on August 29th on 'Music Bank'!

This will set them up for their 'Super Show 6' kicking off in Seoul starting on September 19. 

So mark your calendars ELF for Super Junior's comeback!

Super Junior has come back with their 7th full-length album <MAMACITA> after two years and two months of hiatus. The group has been continuing ‘(blank) men’ concept for ten years and now, they’ve really become mannish men with mature charms.

They changed styles in music as well. The title track ‘MAMACITA’ is an urban new jack swing with an Indian percussion base and a piano line. Trendy electronic sounds which were significant to Super Junior known as ‘SJ Funky’ are minimized, and repetitive lyrics and hooks are also cutback. The song can now be enjoyed by fans in their 30s and 40s.

We put down Super Junior’s changes and plans in Q&A.

A. The song <MAMACITA> is the result of your ambitious preparation, what did you focus on?

Lee Teuk: What we agonize the most when preparing a new album is how to show our unrevealed features to the public. So, this time, we focused on not falling into mannerism. It’s been ten years since we made a debut and I thought that maybe we’ve been shutting ourselves off from other people’s opinion. So, we tried our best to embrace others’ opinions this time. Each members participated in the album making based on their experiences.

A. What is the goal of the album promotion?

Lee Teuk: In the past, I thought becoming #1 winner in music shows, or receiving the best artist of the year award were the most important factors. Of course they are important but now I think being with SJ members and working with great people are indeed happiness. I want to have fun and live exciting life which is what I’m aiming for the most.

A. EXO has made a remarkable growth as new artists. Although EXO and Super Junior share the same music label, you must feel intimidated by their rising popularity. 

Lee Teuk: They are not intimidating…It is up to fans whether they stick to us or join other artists’ fandom. I actually feel good about EXO because I was the host of their debut showcase and watched them receiving #1 awards while in the army. I felt proud of them. No one is a lifetime winner or a loser. Competing against each other and taking someone’s spot are not important. What is more important is to promote that South Korea has such talented artists through our music.

Eun Hyuk: If we lose our job or something, then yes EXO can be intimidating, but we have our ways and EXO has theirs. I think it is a win-win situation for both teams.

Kang In: And if someone’s going to take away our spot, it is better to be EXO than other artists.

A. Some of you have completed serving the country, and there are few members who are in their 30s. Is maturity your differentiation from other idols?

Lee Teuk: Yes, we have maturity but I want to say it is composure. I’ve agonized over ‘how to become a grown-up’ and the answer was that I lacked too much to become an adult. I have to build more experiences. I want to try my best in promoting our new album without feeling pressed for time.

A. Any recommendation on the track list of the new album?

Lee Teuk: I personally like the song ‘This is Love’ which is a medium-tempo song with good rhythm. I’ll show it on tv if there is a chance.

Siwon: Is there a reason when you like a song? I even enjoyed demos. I think Kang In liked the song too.

Kang In: I like everything that you like.

A. What do you want to hear from other people about your new album?

Ryeowook: It is the 7th album indeed.

Lee Teuk: Our past hits were hard for a person to sing alone and strong hooks somewhat set up our image. Our new song is a new jack swing with 90s vibe added to the music which many people can sing along.

‘The King of Hallyu Wave’, Super Junior shared their feelings about making a comeback as a group.

Super Junior held a press conference to announce their comeback with 7th album <MAMACITA> at Imperial Palace Hotel in Nonhyundong, Seoul on August 28th. They shared their feelings about making a comeback after two years and two months of hiatus and also talked about plans regarding album promotions. At the press con, a leader of the group Lee Teuk, who has recently discharged from military service, made an appearance along with tens of media press from both South Korea and around the world.

At the event, Lee Teuk shared his excitement and said “I was worried whether I could be on stage with Super Junior members again, but the time has finally come. I’ll happily carry out the album promotions.” Hee Chul also talked about his feeling to be on stage with Lee Teuk after 3 years of separation, and five years with Kang In. He said “I have new attitude in mind” and shared his excitement.

The press conference was even more special for Lee Tuek. Two years ago, he attended 6th album release press conference at the same location, and made an official comeback through SM Family Concert. At the concert, he was charged with emotions and broke down in tears on stage.

Regrading this event, Lee Teuk said “I think I have developed emotionally charged disease. I was close to shed tears just now. I have had lots of concerns before making a comeback, but my members helped me overcome those difficulties. Time dragged so slowly when I was in the army, but two year and two months of time went very quickly. If I was on the rate of 30 km speed, now I will speed up and go 32 km.”

Super Junior’s 7th album title track ‘MAMACITA’ is an urban new jack swing with an Indian percussion base and a piano line reminding of a DJ remix. The song includes lyrics about asking people to show sympathy on various social issues and griefs. The group will show a comeback stage through KBS 2 <Music Bank> on August 29th and release their album on September 1.

Super Junior not only achieved all-kills on music charts and but also received <Golden Disc> three times in 2009, 2011, and 2013 and swept the end of the year music awards in 2011 and 2012. Fans around the globe are paying attention to Super Junior’s new album and whether they will continue the power of ‘Korean wave’ as K-pop kings.
