  1. @sakura2016 "Handsome Harry" is definitely the go nickname now for my grandma if I ever want to talk about YSH with her ahaha!

YSH is too fatal for women, he's attracting women of all ages - it makes me happy. ahahah! i promise within a week, she's going to keep asking me for information on him. Now that she remembers him, she won't forget him. (I spent two years giving her info on SJS since she's a huge fan of his) AHAHAHAHA!

"Handsome Harry" "Sexy YSH" "charming smile" can we add "Fatal Yoo Seung Ho" ? HAHHAHA

  2. @mindstar she is a lot more close to her old school friends than celebrities. She just recently said in her interview that although she has few celebrity friends - she said "YSH is one of them" (: YAAAY' besides that, Ji Woo is the only celebrity I know that she is best friends with. And it seems like she still remains in good contact with Yeo Jin Goo, KYJ and some of other people as her friends.

AT THE END OF THE DAY, Ruler was a drama that became a good experience and memory for KSH. That's all that truly matters. She got to work with a sunbae that has been her father for other precious works again which makes me happy. And she has met people like YSH and comfortably shared so many life stories with as they both have memories of child actors. I think that despite how the drama and character wise went, I'm more happy that she got to learn more experiences and got to be surrounded by so many lovely people for Ruler in the cast.

  3. Halmoni Fan Update by my one & only grandmother:

she was asking me about old dramas that she wanted to watch again. Telling me to find it for her. I couldn't stop laughing because this was the conversation:

"that one drama with the lawyer and death..."

"there's a lot of dramas like that, grandma."

"no! with that one handsome boy! Handsome Harry!"

"Remember," by this time I was laughing so hard because she had this huge smile on her face when she said Handsome Harry. "You watched it with me twice already. You want to see anything else? Handsome Harry has a lot of dramas and movies, grandma."

"I want to see Harry again but that drama when he was bad gave me a headache. Put on the one that he was even more handsome. The lawyer one."

"How about i show you something else first?  Your favorite actor and mine together. I'll out Remember for you after you watch this...."

"So Ji Sub?!" By this time I put on the music video for her and she was laughing and smiling so much every time SJS & YSH appeared on screen. Now, she thinks they're really brothers because they look so much. When I try to explain that they're not, she says "you're too young, just because you've watched dramas since you were little doesn't mean you know everything! They are brothers!!"

HAHAHAHAH! My grandma is so hilarious now she is in her room watching Remember again and keeps clapping at YSH's beautiful acting. When I told her how old he is, she kept clapping and said "he has a bright future ahead"

SHE AGREES WITH US YOOPIES!!! Our Handsome Gen has a bright future so I can't wait for his future projects after he rest and gains back his weight (:

  4. I can understand everybody's frustration on how the writers were toward KSH. At the end of the day, the writers were new and probably were still learning. KSH expressed how much she felt bad for the writers due to the viewer's comments. To say they suck is far fetched. I'm a writer myself and beginner's work is always a learning process.

It seems like KSH has a lot of respect for the writers and vice versa. To express that she & the writers cried together at the wrap up party, that's sad to hear. There's no ill feelings between them so there's no need to be so mad. KSH even said that the drama was a good drama for her & she truly had fun with everybody else involved.

@pageturner the cast & crew had scripts from 1-5 in the beginning of January I believe. As the months went on, they would get the new scrips. At the press conference, the director mentioned how he just received the last script the day before the conference so I think that gives a good idea how the distribution of the script went.

  5. a new interview came out for KSH:

Was there a grudge between and the writers?

KSH answered, "There was not. I was the one that made the decision to be a part of the drama based on the script. I was sorry to hear about the reactions by viewers and I cried a lot with them. I cried with the writers at the wrap up party also. They tried their best. This was a good drama. A good drama for me & everybody."

Q: To KSH, what is the meaning of Ruler?

"It was a great opportunity for me. There were a lot of shortcomings but Ruler will remain as a memorable piece for the future"

    Q: Last Greeting?

"I would like to thank the viewers who has been faithful to Ruler until the end and the fans. I will come back with better works in the future"

There were more but these stood out for me as it regards with Ruler & the writers.

  6. here is somewhat an even more ACCURATE translations of her interview. I knew that there were some words I couldn't understand from the interview lol

The more and more I read on other translations, I realize that she is putting all the blame on herself. I just want to cry, she's just too humble and rather pick on herself than others. I am glad to see that she takes it as a growing period for her during Ruler. Glad that she takes the experience mentally like this and also glad to hear that she also met other good actors throughout the process.

I'm sending you another translation request for whenever you have the time! It seems like a lighter article than the ones we've seen till now. Thanks in advance once again chingu!

    You're welcome!

i read this article earlier already.

She expressed being able to see an OST with her voice in a drama is very meaningful. Since she isn't a singer and didn't have time to practice much with the song, she couldn't convey her feelings as Han Ga Eun as much as she could while trying her best. If she could do another OST some other time, she will make sure to practice more. KSH said she would appreciate the proposal from Masked Singer but she should only work harder on what she can do.

  8. KSH also commented on how she doesn't have plans to come back with a drama or film anytime soon. She will focus her energy on studying (she should be at the point where she's studying for the college entrance exams) and resting for now. If she does make a comeback, she will chose her next project carefully to meet fans again.

I only roughly translated/explained the part of her talking about her struggles in understading her character. She had said a lot of positive things about Ruler & YSH. So, I think overall, Ruler was a good experience for her since she met so many wonderful people and has shared memories with them from winter to summer (:

she shared how grateful she is to the viewers for having Ruler stay in first place with the ratings from beginning to end.

  9. @mindstar of course! rough translations as I will summarize what they say:

    - "your acting was the best! don't worry about it! so hyun fighting!"

    - "there are so many comments on this article, I become very worried for So Hyun. It just means they care for you! don't worry about anything!"

    - "surprised that So Hyun did so well! I didn't feel the slump at all! will anticipate for your next project!"

    - "kim so hyun is good at acting, the problem was he writers"

    - I appreciate the hard work by Kim So Hyun & Yoo Seung Ho, all the other actors too"

    - "acting was very good but the writers made Ga Eun so frustrating, I didn't like the character"

    - "come back with a better work, always stay cheerful!"

    - "always cheering for you! Kim So Hyun fighting!"

The article was trending on Naver for hours. It already has over 1000+ comments on it. Most of the comments, like above, are mostly positive and understanding why she felt the way she did. Some comments were criticizing the writers for failing on the character and demanding for those writers to never write again. A small percentage of comments were negative - talking about her face though so I wouldn't worry too much about those negative comments, they're just trolls. Other than that, I would say the article was really eye opening to most people.

I am relieved that KSH said what she had to say. She was honest and it was painfully hard to read her struggles of her first slump. She is still young, not even an adult yet, she has overcome it and will slowly learn how to handle things better I feel like. I am also happy to see that there are so many people supporting her and writing comments to reassure her that it wasn't her but it was the badly written character itself by those writers.

  10. I did love how honest KSH was about how she felt about Han Ga Eun overall. This interview really made me sad because I had a feeling that she was feeling all sort of emotions and reading this interview really confirmed it for me.

rough translations/explanation of KSH's post interview (PLEASE CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG):

Kim So Hyun expressed how she made efforts to improve her character as a heroine. She spent her time talking about her character and researching as she had a hard time understanding Han Ga Eun. She felt lost and slowly started losing confidence in herself as an actress. She reads comments and felt happy about the praises that she was receiving but she admitted that she felt sorry for herself. She had a difficult time understanding her character throughout the drama. She wanted to understand more about avenging her father's death as it should've been an important factor for her as a character.

Ruler eventually became her slump period. As everybody was praising her acting and visual, she said it was the hardest work she has done so far as she lost self confidence. Throughout filming the drama, she had a lot of thoughts going on. She felt almost embarrassed because she didn't know what or who she was acting, she couldn't come to a full understanding of who Han Ga Eun was. This was her first slump and it was hard for her.

Although it was challenging, she has reflected a lot on her own and is moving forward as she accepts what viewers and the public think. As she shot Ruler, she would carefully look through comments. She tried her best to look at one comment without getting hurt. She was pleased with the praises and how well received it was. She also commented on how she spent so much crying during the second half of the drama, she felt it was mentally and physically hard at times. Her face eventually became swollen from it. She said that she understood her tears in the first half after her father's death so the acting for it wasn't hard. But as the second half continued on, she had to control a lot more emotions. The process of how Ga Eun was pursuing revenge was frustrating and unfortunate for her as the character didn't know anything.

I'm still shocked at your list

We even like the same genre of drama : crime/thriller

    aha, I'm still shocked too!

ahhh yes! crime/thriller is my ultimate fave genre! so glad to see that we also like that! they're just more calming and fun to watch. romcom's are ok but I only make certain exceptions for that genre if someone I like is in it lol

hopefully one day YSH can be a detective or secret agent like what we want and we can fangirl even more! ahaha!

  12. ahhhhh how could we have the same people?! @Berou ?!

I LOVE JI SUNG SO MUCH! If YSH & he can do a thrilling drama together, I would scream so much out of happiness ahahaha! Even a film would be good for me!

Mine is - Ji Sung, Song Kang Ho, Lee Jung Jae, Jo In Sung, Jung Woo Sung and Ha Jung Woo!

Thinking of a film or drama that would have YSH with either of those people, it's a dream come true lol

  13. @Berou oooooh I like some of those actresses in your and others lists! our gem has so many time on his hand so maybe one day, he will work with so many actresses in that list! (:

what about male actors? bromance is still pretty popular nowadays. I liked the dynamite between Defendant this year between Ji Sung & Uhm Ki Joon is the kind of tension I want for two male stars. It's like a thrilling aspects. I hope one day YSH can take part in a drama w/ a male star like that. It had the same feeling as YSH & Nam Goong Min had in Remember but I was more attached to YSH & Park Sung Woong at that time lol

  14. @Berou aw I wish I was here for that! Life was hectic for me in the last two years so I really couldn't participate in the forums as much as I wanted. but I'm back and 100% here ahahah!

oooh, I've thought about this! my list isn't that long because I am fan of mostly male actors like YSH, SJS, JIS but female actors that I want to costar with YSH? hmmm....

    1) Kim So Hyun (maybe you would've figured out that she is my fave actress since her film back in 2010 but Ruler didn't make me happy at all with their chemistry. so a modern drama pls this time)

    2) Park Shin Hye (their chemistry for SJS's music video was really good! so I would be happy to see these two act together one day! CF photo shoot and music video isn't enough lol)

    3) Park Bo Young (she's such a wonderful adorable actress. they've worked together for a CF & one drama when they were young. but it would be nice to see them in a drama now that they're older)

I can't think of any other actresses around his age. If it were to be an older actress for like thrillers or mystery concepts, I have seperate list for that hehe. It would be nice if he could do dramas like that with like Lee Bo Young and Ha Ji Won.

    what is yours?

  15. @Berou omg let's never speak of Flames of Desire ever again. ahah, I do not want to remember that drama ever. It's one of those dramas that I persisted through because of YSH. As soon as it was over, I banned myself from weekend drama for a year ahaha!

Ooh! there's a current weekend drama that's really good and heartwarming that has Kim Hae Sook/Kim Yong Chul right now, if you ever have time - you should definitely watch it! (:

ooooh!! Kim Yong Chul plays such good villain. I love it when he plays those kind of roles so if he could be an evil modern version of DM in a drama w/ YSH that would be so awesome. Actors tend to learn and love to be around those two elder actors so the thought of YSH being around them one day for a drama or film really makes me happy LOL

i definitely don't want YSH to take part of another drama/film unless he had a full 3 months rest. I don't mind magazine shoots or CF, he has to at least have a rest and gain back some weight, CRIES! Oooh, I only want him to take part of a weekend drama in his later years, stabilize that romance aspect of his life and then yes ahahahah!

By the rules of dramaland, YSH and the other underrated actors will get their popularity boosted soon :). It's only now a matter of time. I bet you he's receiving now love calls everywhere but since he's very picky,he'll take his time to choose the right and perfect drama. No error, no rookies writers,no authorative and unflexible director. He needs a solid role, skilled writers and directors and co-stars with grounded acting

YES YES YES! I've been watching these screenwriters who are miscasting people so much. They have good scripts but it goes amiss once a wrong actor is cast. So one day, we both can squeal together once YSH agrees to a role that will provide everything that this handsome gem deserves! omg, I agree big time with the co-stars with grounded acting. it's always an issue when one of two leads can't act and I've been seeing it soooooooo much in recent dramas. I just want to curl myself in the corner sometimes lol / maybe that's why my heart hurts more since KSH was considerably the perfect co-star but ugh, writers gotta go ruin it.

question: how do you feel about weekend dramas? they tend to be exhausting long but they grab certain type of viewers and attention that a weekday drama doesn't provide. my own personal thoughts is that I rather have him take upon a weekend when he's in his 30s or 40s - those rules tend to be filled with family problems and it would be interesting to see YSH among so many other sunbaes. One of my wishes is for YSH to film with Kim Hae Sook (she tends to do a lot of young dramas for cameos so this possibly can happen) and Kim Young Chul. They're my favorite elder actors so maybe I'm being greedy again wanting my faves to film something together ahahah!

i can't wait for the day for us and the other Yoopies to scream and dance in joy when our handsome gem gets that perfect drama role and the recognition he deserves!

  17. ahaha, generation shift! I like that word because it's so true! since 2010, actors who were born from 87-89 tend to be the leading actors: they get those roles that boost their love from kneitzens very well. so I feel as if 90-95 generation's time is here.

back then, I was so upset to see YSH gone when he joined the military so early but thinking about it since Remember, he did the right choice. Now, opportunities will be more available for him hopefully. He will get his shining moment soon and challenge himself more and more (:

I've also been noticing that one or two child actors who chose to enlist early are discharging from the military soon. It'll be theirs and YSH's moment to rise soon, I can feel it!

the genres of romance, rom com & melodrama tend to be for actors who are in their 20s. with so few actors left, hopefully these writers/casting directors can look PAST the idol actors and look into underrated actors. If they rather take their chance on an idol actor with limited acting skills for popularity. I feel like they should do the opposite - take their chance on actors who have better experience and are very much underrated to make their drama big (ofc with the right script lol)

  18. Most of the current active popular actors are seemingly entering the military around the same time at this point. they've reached the age where they should go before 30.

Besides, YSH - there are a lot of underrated actors who has plays second leads or small roles before. This should be considerably their moment to shine now that the actors list are slowly being limited due to military. And it's not that there are "no actors" I just feel like producers and such tend to choose idol actors due to the popularity which is as expected because marketing.

but I hope that actors like YSH & more will have an opportunity given to them now that it seems so very limited for the screenwriters/casting.

It just matters in the case of what writers are thinking of for genre, characters and actors themselves.

I hope for the second half of 2017 and rest of the years onward, YSH can be considered for a few dramas/movies as well as other underrated actors who are waiting for that one perfect drama. YSH being the experienced out of the bunch, I just hope casting directors offer a role that can challenge him.

thanks for sharing the article! @Berou idk why it slightly made me upset since of the whole aspect of "no actors" since half the time people are casting idol actors instead of giving chances to underrated actors like YSH.

SO YES! ITS TIME FOR YSH TO RISE!!!

  19. @Berou & @hyania ahhhh!!! that would be so cute! the thought of your father & my grandma meeting and fanboying/fangirling over YSH is so adorable!!

oooh! let me try to clear my schedule and other things to do tonight and once I'm free, I'll try and translate what's going on in that video! (:

yes! if YSH could do a film with Bong Joon Ho that would be so good and honestly it would open so many doors for him! I agree, directors/screenwriters tend to stick to the same cast like how he stuck with Go Ah Jung for The Host/Snowpiercer.

    Maybe a new screenwriter/director with amazing skills will one day cast our YSH and open those wide doors for him further (;

  20. @Berou I'm not surprised by it either. OH! Speaking of fans! As I was packing last night, I put on Kim Sun Dal in the living room so I could watch it again and my grandma walked it. It was adorable because she really doesn't remember much stuff she watches but as soon as she walked in and sat down - "that's Harry....oooh poor Harry....why is he so skinny here..." that's the first thing that came out of her mouth.

I literally froze and asked her - "you remember that drama?" and she went "no...I just remember handsome harry." I started laughing so hard.

I mean, grandma and I watch dramas together so sometimes I have to retell her the story or plot for her to remember what's going on. Even Ruler, she gave up on it because she didn't like it after the 10th episode. She calls YSH by Harry so it's adorable ahah. It's funny because she's actually a fan of So Ji Sub too.

This is why I love YSH since Master of Study. Despite of dramas or films choices, he always has a variety of fans who support him so much. He's an actor with "no anti-fans" as people call it. I rather look at him more as an actor who has fans of all ages. It's no wonder people love him as the years goes by.

but I agree with Berou, with other rising stars of less experience than him starring in dramas that get their popularity boosted and stuff - it's hard for YSH to get that one perfect drama for him. Especially if other star screenwriters choose other stars to cast in their dramas. Hopefully one day, luck is on his side and he finds that perfect role/drama/plot that can show people more of him.

OH! Berou! How do you feel about Director Bong Joon Ho? His films are always well written and the film catches attention all the time by Cannes! I can imagine YSH filming a part for his film! That would be really amazing if he can take part with somebody like the director.

@sakura2016 that interview came to kneitzens attention I think a few months ago and everybody was squealing at how adorable and intellectual his answers were. ahahah, it remind of those past interviews he had as a kid, I kept going "AWWWWWW" throughout the whole time ahahah
