  1. The transformational moments. In the finale, it was thrilling when Sunja was at the market selling kimchi for the first time. At first she was timid and scared, and I felt awful for her when the other people at the market were frowning and yelling at her to take the smelly pungent kimchi away. But she forged ahead, and she found a little spot for herself. And although you could see how scared she was at first, she found her voice and began shouting for people to try her kimchi. She spoke in Japanese at first, but eventually her voice rose, and the last thing you hear is her shouting in Korean, "This is the food of our country!" And then I burst into tears. That was how she survived in this foreign land, with two kids to raise and her husband having been taken from her, by holding onto who she was.

A similar moment was when Hansu speaks to Noah. He tells his son to be better than anyone, so that no one can look down on him. People won't stop hating him, but they will be forced to respect him. And that is the song of immigrants everywhere.

This show was a gem. I hope they get all the seasons to tell this story to the end.

too bad I dont understand a word

    Translation:

GR - So, because of the baby?

    SW - Yes.

GR - It's obsession. That is the source of all suffering and pain.

GR 2 - An earthly expression says that "A dog at school can recite [scholarly text] after three years." After being a grim reaper for 100 years, he thinks he's become half Buddha.

SW - I just couldn't leave my baby behind.

GR - How could we understand? We had men's bodies even while living on earth.

SW - Do you think I committed many sins in my past life, too? How did you two become grim reapers?

GR - (I don't understand what he says here.) The reason this job is terrible, too... (Dong-ma walks by)

  3. The kids are alright.

Once they decided to have their baby, they were surprisingly smart and thoughtful. I mean, they are still KIDS, and extremely naive about how easy it's going to be to have their baby and Yeong-ju will still attend college. Teenage pregnancy is no one's idea of a smart choice, but if anyone's going to make it work, it's these two. They seem strong and really committed to each other. I am rooting for them.

And they seem strong despite a lot of hardship they've endured as kids. It's not easy to grow up without their moms, and it was really interesting to see the pasts of these two fathers. When they were younger, Ho-sik was a gambling addict and In-gwon was a thug. But when their wives left, they stepped up and became hardworking men in order to raise their kids right. I give them credit for this.

Things are a real mess right now, but as Hyeon said, the storm will pass. I suspect the end of this story will be Ho-sik, In-gwon, and Eun-hee raising this baby together as the two kids go off to college in Seoul.

Eun-hee is the secret hero behind all this. She loaned these two guys the money to start their own businesses. And she's going to be in the middle of working this situation out. She is the pillar.

Can somebody explain about “buy and sell your dreams” ?

It's a Korean expression - that you can "buy" someone's dream. For example, if I have a dream that I've won the lottery, you can offer to "buy" that dream from me, hoping for good luck. It's just a playful expression.

If anyone missed 15 and don't really want to watch: yeah, nothing much happened.

Well... that storyline about the maids looking down on the new brides and revolting turned into nothing. Which is as it should be. They are HIRED help, and can be dismissed at any time. I think Pi-yeong is awesome, but she wasn't doing anything unusual. If your employee refuses to listen to the ladies of the house, of course they are out. Simple as that. She dealt with her husband trying to gaslight her, so a mouthy maid is no match for her. And I don't know what they were thinking. I mean, just a very dumb move. It was kind of fun to see them try to pull something with, "We all quit!" And for PY+SE to reply, "MMMKAY, BYE!" But this entire storyline was a waste of time.

So Song Won is hanging out with Gabin, Ami, Dong-mi (why?), and even Seo Ban. But not really doing anything, except eating. She did have a very interesting expression on her face when she saw Seo Ban.

A lot of people seem to be predicting that Seo Ban will die and ghost-marry Song Won, but I don't understand that. Even if Seo Ban died, why would he marry Song Won?

Hye-ryeong slapping Sa-hyeon. Okay, I get that unpossessed Hye-ryeong has no love for Sa-hyeon, but what was that even for? When she beat him up before, at least she had a reason to be enraged, but there was no good reason for this, so there was no impact. It was just, "Well, she's being a b**ch as usual." Then she suddenly faints, and gets taken to the hospital. Is she going to die?

The kids are adjusting very well to the life of the wealthy.

Gabin and Professor Loser meet again. Might as well cling to each other since no one else wants them. Sure, whatever. But it really was out of the blue - how does Dong-mi know Gabin well enough to show up at her HOME and bring her food? And she happened to meet Professor Loser all of sudden? All to play cupid for this couple?

Yu-shin finally understands that his beloved stepmother killed his father. So she gets dragged away tomorrow. To a mental institution? Or a police station?

I hope there is no Season 4. Phoebe is really out of ideas.

Okay, that is flippin' hilarious.

Classic line from the cheating husband on "World of the Married."

    Spoiler

His wife confronts him about his cheating, to which he replies, "What! Is love a crime?!"”

So she tells him she also slept with another man, and he replies, "How can you do that to me?!?"

Hypocrisy at its finest. I laughed so hard.

  6. Interview with some of the actors:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thJ81jMzHkc&ab_channel=E연예in

The actresses are talking about how they encounter fans of the show all over the world due to the show being on Netflix.

Si-Eun actress talks about how she enjoyed working on multiple seasons, but also being nervous when the future seasons were not confirmed.

Song Won actress talks about what it's like to play the same character for 2 years.

Hye-ryeong actress talks about how this drama is the first that shows that K-dramas can also follow the multiple seasons model.

Si-eun talks about how playing such a repressed character for so long could be difficult.

Hae-ryun actor talks about how he was cursed at the most in his career as an actor. Although he didn't enjoy it, he says that he understands it.

Song Won actress admits that being too simpering towards her new in-law parents was probably annoying for the viewers. She also adds that Season 3 ending is even more shocking than Season 2.

Hye-ryeong talks about how her belief that a man can be faithful for the rest of his life was shaken a little by being part of this show.

  7. Of course I'm rooting for Eun-pyo to take down Chun-hee the snake, but she is a bit of a hothead. She's articulate and smart, but she doesn't know how to scheme against someone on Chun-hee's level, just like how she never knew how to handle Jin-ha. She doesn't have it in her to be devious and calculating, which is a good thing for her soul, but I'm worried for her in this snake pit.

Of course, she will figure it out. This is 16-ep. K-drama and we're only 1/2 way through it.

Chun-hee is neck-deep in ***t. Not only is that young guy the one who gets her all the drug clients, he's also involved in prostitution, and Eun-pyo's husband the cop knows about that. Wow, this is not going to end well for her. Despite all that, she is a total gangster and does not even blink when Eun-pyo calls her out on the false accusation against Dong-seok. She may be freaking out in private, but slow claps for how she holds it together when confronted in public.

Eun-pyo does not have it in her to keep her cool, and the episode ends with her screaming at Chun-hee that she will kill her. Not good, girl! Your goal is to clear your name, not make it worse!

The people I hate most on this show are all the moms who are just so awful with their gossip. This is an indictment on all gossipy moms everywhere - stop being such a-holes, people!

And I am really frustrated with Yun-ju. She is such a weak follower with such low self-esteem that she can never stand up to anyone. Frustrating and sad.

Yu-bin! How messed up is she that a 1st grader would come up with such a scheme in order to whack her academic rivals? Chun-hee, your biggest emergency is that your child is becoming a psycho due to all the stress you put on her. (1st grader!) Oh, that, and all those crimes you're about to go to jail for.

And of course, my biggest worry is for Sae-bom and Jul-pin - Yeong-mi's kids. Their stepfather (Geon-wu) is an absolute nightmare creep! Looks like Yeong-mi is finally figuring that out.

Anyway, I really like this show! We've seen quite a few stories of moms obsessed with their kids' education (Sky Castle, Uncle, etc.) But this one has a different flavor and I can't wait to see what happens in the next half.

It all feels like a dream or something I would have written when I was 12 and had no understanding of relationships at all.

That is such an apt description of this show. Like an approximation of what "LOVE" is, without any real understanding of it on a deeper level.

Does anyone remember the bombastic mission statement of this show? That it's going to explore LOVE, which is so essential that it's like water or air, that we all strive to find it until we take our last breath on this earth... and after three seasons, I'm not sure that the show came anywhere close to really exploring love or that any character has really felt it. At best, most of it is a very mannered simulacrum of emotion.

The closest we've come to feeling persuasive love is a few robotic blips from our favorite couple - the climax of which was cleaning out ear wax. But yeah, they are a cute couple, and I am rooting for them to survive! But the reason we all feel the most affection for this couple is mostly about how her husband is absolutely the worst, how she's the one we feel sorriest for, and how he's been propped up for three seasons as THE HOTTEST MAN and the object of desire for all the females on this show. So why fight it? Yes, let's all try to find something worthwhile in this experience.

But things have been going too suspiciously well, to the point of sleep-inducing (seriously, this show tried to make EAR WAX SEXY) so let's just hope for some cracktastic action in the final weekend. Bring on the ghosts and grim reapers and throw in some slaps and water throwing. Because what else is this show good for? Not genuine emotion, that's for sure.

  10. More from K-youtube:

According to Phoebe-fans, she is very faithful to the concept of - 인과응보 因果應報 - (in-gwa-eung-bo) - which means - karmic retribution, or "what goes around comes around."

So she will make sure those who committed bad deeds are punished. That is what (allegedly) makes her stories satisfying to watch.

So who are the grim reapers for? There are 2 of them, so 2 people in the Seo family will die?

Because of this supposed *code,* some don't believe that Seo Ban will die, because as far as we know, he never did anything that bad.

But on the other hand, we saw Seo Ban and Song Won's wedding, and according to Phoebe, all 3 weddings will happen.

And because of this karmic retribution code, one reviewer predicts:

    • Hae-ryun can't walk anymore. That soccer injury is really bad.
    • Yu-shin will go blind. Haha, wow. It's getting biblical!
    • Ami... something bad. (Becomes possessed by Song Won Ghost?)
    • Gabin... something bad. (Forced to marry Hae-ryun?)

If none of these retributions come true, EVERYTHING WILL BE A DREAM. Everything was Pi-yeong's dream, and when she wakes up, everything will have returned to how they were in Season 1 - Yu-shin never cheated on her, no one cheated on anyone, and life goes on.

  11. K-youtube theories:

    1. Song Won did not leave the mortal coil, and was last seen with Gabin, her sister-in-homewrecking.

Song Won will possess Ami's body and marry Sa-hyeon again because she wants to be with her baby.

After exorcising Song Won's ghost from Hye-ryeong's body, and Hye-ryeong's miscarriage afterwards, the Pan parents will dare not try another exorcism again. And no one else will care because Ami has nothing going on in her life. So Song Won will live on in Ami's body.

    2. Si-eun is pregnant and Seo Ban will die - that's what the grim reapers are there for. Before he dies, he leaves behind his child, continuing his connection with Si-eun, and also so she can stay in Chaebol House, and her other two children can continue to enjoy the lifestyle of the rich and elite.

    3. Seo Ban will live. It's too cruel to not let him experience seeing his own child and too cruel to Si-eun who enjoyed such a brief happiness.

    4. Head Housekeeper had been in love with Seo Ban for a long time, and this is why she has her knives out for Si-eun in particular.

    5. Dong-mi will introduce Gabin to Professor Loser.

    6. Dong-mi will introduce Gabin to YU-SHIN. Why? Seasons 1&2 were full of disgusting sex fantasies she was having with Yu-shin, but the writer did not show those in S3. Based on Dong-mi's sex fantasy with Seo Ban, the writer is done with her lust for Yu-shin in particular, and just made her be horny for any younger guy. So she isn't hung up on Yu-shin anymore, and she wants a daughter-in-law to take care of her, and she chose Gabin.

If Yu-shin and Gabin end up together, it will be pretty weird if they run into the Dong-ma+Pi-yeong couple.

    --

    My thoughts:

I thought this season was... pretty boring. The cracktastic energy of S2 has dissipated, and there were long stretches of... meh. All the ridiculous use of ghosts has gotten old really fast.

I guess it's cool that Pi-yeong and Dong-ma ended up together, but the way he dumped Gabin, got back together with her, then dumped her again - he's just not someone who is stable and trustworthy.

But based on all the grandparents (Pan, Seo) and their obsession with grandchildren, Pi-yeong is going to fine, at least within the values of this show's world, where nothing matters except MONEY, MONEY, MONEY.

Dong-ma's Little Lord Fauntleroy cosplay... haha.

The best parts of this season - 50s husband and 40s husband having the s**tiest days of their lives on their ex-wives wedding days, sitting around, feeling sorry for themselves.

I have to give Yu-shin a little credit. After acting like an a$$ after seeing Jia getting chummy with Dong-ma, he was able to see reason after Pi-yeong told him off. He's a little better than Professor Loser, who remains the biggest loser here.

The show has brainwashed all of us - like Song Won hypnotized Sa-Hyeon - to believe that Seo Ban is a dreamboat. Aaaannnd... the honeymoon scene just reminded me what a BAD ACTOR he is. My goodness. That. Robotic. Delivery. This is got to be the role of a lifetime for him, because in what other show could he ever hope to score such a big role? Having said that, I do find him swarthily attractive when his hair is down.

Pictures! He shows more personality in a few photos than in 3 seasons of this show:

    https://dkqenfwkqk.tistory.com/2456

And I hope he doesn't die. I hope his BIG SECRET is not that he is sick. Please let him and his bad acting survive for more robotic romantic moments! (dude, loosen up!)

Wow, poor Hye-ryeong. When I read up on Phoebe during S2, I read that her pattern is that she hates her characters who are broadcasters but loves writers (because she is herself a writer). So she makes broadcasters into "bad girls" while writers are always "good girls." So this pattern is being played out - Hye-ryeong is a "bad girl," and Si-eun is a "good girl."

    I hope Si-eun remains happy.

Hye-ryeong is being abused too much that it's getting uncomfortable to watch. Give her a break! I hope she gets an even bigger divorce settlement and bankrupts the Pan family! (Because MONEY, MONEY, MONEY...)

What a turn of events.  Whoa… so now it’s a mystery and murder case.  Don’t really think it’s her own will to self-destruction.

At least there are 3 suspects – Chunhee, the director (hubby of Young Mi) and step mom of Jinha.  Probably not Louis.

This drama has quite complex plot.  It does consist of secrets and psychological warfare as they mentioned.  Good for those who want the brains to do some digging.

Haha, yes, I totally forgot about Young-mi and what a drama queen she was, making this tragedy all about her. OMG, she is such a delightful freak.

Also creepy is her husband. When he visited Jinha's apartment, they talked about the artist Mogdigliani, and his muse who threw herself out of a window the day after he died. Hard to guess what happened, but that little scene was not there for nothing.

  13. So now that Jinha is dead, everyone is pointing fingers. (Goodbye, Kim Gyuri, I will miss you and your crazy eyes.)

It looks like Chun-hee went directly to Jinha's house carrying her big bag full of drugs. Their elevators have CCTV installed, so the police see her on the video, and they know that Chun-hee is the last person who visited Jinha at her home before she fell to her death.

Everyone blames themselves and feels terrible. Luis blames himself, Eun-pyo blames herself...

Chun-hee is shocked to find out Eun-pyo's husband is a police detective and he is investigating this case, so when she feels cornered, she tells Eun-pyo-s husband that Jinha was upset that she thought Luis was cheating on her with her college classmate (Eun-pyo).

Chun-hee is in a heap of trouble. If they do an autopsy, they'll probably find out Jinha was pumped full of illegal drugs. Aside from maybe manslaughter, she will get caught for all her drug-selling.

So she sells out Eun-pyo, insinuating that she was cheating on her husband. It looks like she gets into a hair-pulling fight with Chun-hee about it next week.

Dong-seok and Su-in get into the Gifted Student program, but Yu-bin and the rest of the other kids do not.

    My thoughts:

Despite her haughty and drug-running ways, I liked Chun-hee and her friendship with Eun-pyo, so I'm sad to see that end. She gave Eun-pyo pretty good advice and even though she is the queen of the crazy tiger moms, she seems really level-headed at times. Like when her daughter Yubin was throwing a fit after not making it into the Gifted program, Chun-hee gave her surprisingly level-headed advice - sometimes you don't do well, does that mean you should give up everything? I thought she would just scream at her daughter for failing, but that's not what she did.

Anyway, can't wait for next week. She betrayed Eun-pyo big time, but she's also in deep s**t, so... I guess I can't blame her for having survival instincts. Haha.

I'd also like to find out more why Jinha was so crazy-obsessed with Eun-pyo her entire life.

Also loving his two older sisters - played by Jeong Su-yeong (always awesome) and Kim Rosa, Judante's crazy maid from Penthouse! She was great, and I'm so glad to see her here.

  15. Okay. Hmm.

Jin-ha's mother died and she has a stepmom. When her stepmom visited, she got upset and attempted suicide. She was found passed out after taking pills and Luis took her to the hospital to get her stomach pumped.

Her relationship with Luis is not great. He tells her that he's never been happy with her and she is selfish.

What Chun-hee is doing - according to K-youtube - is going to visit people in hotel rooms to inject them with Propofol which she probably gets from her Doctor Husband. So she went on one of her "appointments" and her client ended up being Jin-ha. And her ex-boyfriend (?) Su-in's father just happened to see her there, too.

Later Jin-ha is found dead, apparently having jumped from her penthouse.

    My thoughts:

I don't really understand Jin-ha's problems - she is love-starved so she sought love from Eun-pyo and her mother, but they "rejected" her. Eun-pyo's mother only thought of her as her daughter's friend, but not as important as her own daughter. This is very normal, but Jin-ha interpreted this as some sort of rejection, and had to collapse on the ground weeping over it. So I see what's going on with Jin-ha, but I don't actually understand it.

I've never understood Jin-ha's obsession with Eun-pyo. If she really wanted to be Eun-pyo's friend and be loved by Eun-pyo, she would not act like that, and constantly humiliate her in public, steal her boyfriend, and expect love and friendship in return.

She did it again, by inviting her "uncle," who was the former professor who really hates Eun-pyo now for posting negative stuff about him on the internet. So Jin-ha invites him to her art exhibition, plays innocent, and rubs salt into Eun-pyo's wounds yet again. I guess this is her way of "punishing" Eun-pyo because Eun-pyo's mom does not even remember Jin-ha.

Basically, I don't really "get" her, or understand people who act this way. So her sudden death seems... weirdly not very impactful. I mean, she's obviously a basket case, but I've never fully wrapped my head around what her deal is. Maybe this will be made clearer after her death.

Can't wait until tomorrow. I want to know what is going on!

Chun-hee's husband is an anesthesiologist, I think? If they dose the patient wrong, they can die. I'm assuming that is what happened.

  17. The sexism continues to bother me. The Pan parents thinking of Hye-ryeong as nothing but a broodmare who lost value in their eyes when she revealed that her uterus is malformed. Look, I'm no Hye-ryeong fan, but the fact that she may have reproductive issues is not a reason for her to be devalued. Ugh, so ignorant.

Also really hate the way that SDM and his father talk about the new wives about to join the household. It's nice that they are being welcomed into the household, but the way they talk about how mature and capable they are... I personally just find it a little gross.

It just seems like these people do not think of women as PEOPLE, but as things with attributes and qualities that suit their needs.

    --

    Anyway, K-youtubers theories:

    1. Dong-mi is possessed by Grandpa Ghost. (Except that Dong-mi got scared when remembering how Seo Ban hit her while possessed by Grandpa Ghost, which wouldn't make sense if this theory was true.)

    2. Little Boy Ghost is the Grim Reaper, here to take Song Won to the afterlife.

    3. Little Boy Ghost is the baby that Hye-ryeong will be impregnated with.

    4. Little Boy Ghost is a child that Song Won lost before, while trying to get pregnant in her former marriage.

    5. Seo Dong-ma's mother's ghost has possessed the Head Housekeeper, and disapproves of the new wives.

Yup, all the theories are about ghosts. Because what else is going on?

  18. I love the cheating ex-hubs getting together to lick their wounds, acting outraged that their wives are moving on.

I love the mistresses getting together to lick their wounds, acting outraged that the wives of the homes they wrecked are moving on.

Living well is the best revenge, as they say! I don't really need any of them to drop dead to feel satisfied, personally. Just being twisted with jealousy, unable to recognize that they're the ones who caused their own unhappiness, is just fine with me.

(Of course, Dong-ma's mother dropped dead. She was a homewrecker, after all. Homewreckers die on this show, and their ghosts haunt the remaining family members.)

Of course, life in a chaebol home isn't going to be an easy road. The Head Housekeeper is already not happy about the incoming ladies of the house. Just because Chaebol Father likes them, it doesn't mean smooth sailing for the new pair of chaebol wives.

Who is the little boy ghost? What is Seo Ban's secret?

  19. I love it. I just love it.

Han-su's biggest betrayal wasn't the lying and the desperate attempt to seduce Eun-hee. It was how his deception destroyed the beautiful memory that she had of him. He was not living his life right, and she helped him see it. That was her gift to him. And he redeemed himself by returning her money. That's true friendship.

Speaking of true friends, I loved what In-gwon and Ho-sik did for her. Yes, they were ridiculously overreacting, but they really care about her. And I loved how they reacted when she threw them some truth bombs afterwards.

Maybe Eun-hee can finally move on from Han-su and maybe get together with Ho-sik again. Or maybe be with someone else. Or even maybe have a very fulfilling life by herself. She is an awesome person with good friends who appreciate her and think the world of her, and that's not such a bad life.

I laughed and cried so much watching this. It's such a beautiful show.

  20. Wow, I am enjoying this so much!

I was happy when Dong-seok won that Rube Goldberg competition. Anything to shut up the mouths of those judgy moms! Ugh, they are so annoying. Eat their nasty words!

Now they are going to be kissing Eun-pyo's butt big time. Chun-hui gets points for being the one who gave her a chance first.

I'm sad to hear about Eun-pyo's dad. I guess that is why she gave up on her studies in France suddenly.

Luis leans in to kiss Eun-pyo. Who didn't see that coming?

But more intriguing is Chun-hui's relationship with Yun-ju's husband. I can't wait until next week.

  21. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/58th_Baeksang_Arts_Awards

    Best Drama nominee

    Best Actress nominee: Kim Tae-ri

Best New Actor: Choi Hyun-wook as Moon Ji-woong

I wish that more actors from 2521 were nominated but still, very well deserved.

An interview from Lee Ju-myeong (Korean):

    '2521' 이주명 "백이진♥나희도 이별, 현실적이라 좋아" [엑's 인터뷰] (xportsnews.com)

She talks about how much she loved her character Seung-wan. (So did I! And she was great.)

She thinks the ending was good because it was realistic.

  22. Oooh, you guys, this one seems good. (on Netflix in the U.S.)

I love all the main actresses (esp. Chu Ja-hyeon) and this is much more intriguing than what I thought it would be at first - a bunch of "Momblies" finding ways to torture each other. Well, there is that, but more simmering underneath the surface. I am hooked!

So good to find a weekday drama. All the best stuff is crammed in the weekends - "My Liberation Diary" and "Our Blues." Thank you drama gods for giving me something for the weekdays!

  23. I forgot to mention the ickiest thing: Hae-ryun and Dong-mi. That pairing gives me the heebie jeebies! And you thought this show couldn't get weirder!

It was pretty funny when Dong-mi's voice-over (and the text next to her head) called him "Duck Egg of Nakdong River." That's basically his name now.

It would be even funnier if Hae-ryun made a move and Dong-mi rejected him. She is hot to trot, but not that desperate! (Oh, who are we kidding. She would not say no.)

And if actress Kim Boyeon didn't quit the show, she would be acting with her real ex-husband! Weird!

  24. 2 episodes and I'm all in.

This writer is absolutely magic, and the casting is perfect. I am so engrossed already. Cannot wait for next weekend!

Kind of wish I waited at least a few weeks before starting so that there are some stockpiled episodes I can enjoy during the week. But there's always the thrill of live-watching. *sigh* The eternal dilemma of a k-drama fan...
