  1. Last week, Miran seemed like a self-entitled nightmare, and I just felt really bad for Eun-hee. But after this episode, I think that she is not as bad as I thought.

I liked how she cleaned Eun-hee's home and changed the curtains for her. Maybe it's not such a big deal, but I thought it was sweet. That she showed her care towards others in ways that other people don't notice.

I also liked how sweet she was towards Myeong-bo. Again, it first seemed like he was a married guy who was being disrespectful to his wife by drooling over the Dream Girl from high school. But the way he opened up about his wife abusing him, and her kind, caring reaction made me think, she's not just a selfish attention hog. She seems to actually have compassion for other people.

And I think Eun-hee, although she is mad at Miran, ultimately really does love her, and that's why she does all those things to take care of her. I hope these two work things out and become better friends than ever.

  2. Who is Yeom Mi-jeong:

So my theory is that Gu's assistant Sam-sik changed his name to "Yeom Mi-jeong" and is having an affair with A-hole Team Leader.

But according to everyone else on the internet, Gu refuses to call Sam-sik by whatever he changed his name to, and simply calls him a bunch of random names, and it happened to be "Yeom Mi-jeong" that one time. Because he misses her and wants to say her name.

And A-hole Team Leader happened to name his mistress "Yeom Mi-jeong" on his phone because he hates and disrespects Mi-jeong so much. His mistress is assumed to be the b**chiest girl on the design team. (I don't remember her name, but we all know which one I'm talking about.)

    Ep. 13:

When Yeom Father got into that street race with the Benz, it was one of the first times that Yeom Father showed any real emotion, so far. He didn't like the way they insulted his farming, and he didn't like their rudeness. And he actually reacted, for once. And perhaps for the first time, he was on the same page with his son.

When Yeom Mother said that she can't do farm work anymore, I was happy for her. What I thought would happen next - that they would sell the farm, and use the money to buy a lucrative convenience store. Chang-hee would help run it with his dad, and become very successful due to the knowledge he gained from his former work. And they'd all move to a nice, air-conditioned place, finally.

    Well, that didn't happen.

    2021/2022:

Gu sends his assistant to his home in Naju City. He is thrilled. Gu also returns to his "home," which is Sanpo, and finds that nothing is how it used to be.

Yeom Father is still there, married to a new lady, and he doesn't seem to be in good health. (I think he's clutching his arm like he can't use it well. Injury or stroke-induced paralysis?) All the Yeom kids are gone.

Very soon after Gu left in 2019, Yeom Mother finally quit farm work, and they put the farm up for sale. She finally enjoys a day off and enjoys a day trip to Seoul. She gets to see Gi-jeong's boyfriend, which makes her smile brightly. She hears that Mi-jeong cried after Gu left, and that makes her cry. She comes home to sit at her kitchen table, sitting and thinking for a long time. Lies down for a nap. And that turns out to be her last day on earth. MY GOODNESS, the woman didn't even get to enjoy one full day off from hard labor.

The way that Yeom Father said, "You came," upon seeing Gu... it almost felt like he was waiting for Gu, and that's why he didn't leave Sanpo.

Preview shows Gi-jeong being embraced by Tae-hoon's older sister. This sister's greatest fear was that Tae-hoon gets married and takes his daughter with him. I'm assuming that Gi-jeong joins this family instead, and ends up living with Tae-hoon, Yurim, and his two sisters.

Mi-jeong won her design contest at work. She wishes that Gu will come. Instead, she comes home to an ambulance racing towards her house. Life changes forever for the Yeom family.

Gu is merely existing like a zombie. Ruthless money collector - the way he got that lady at the makeup counter to pay up, so scary - and dutifully brings piles of cash to Chairman Shin. Because otherwise, he will probably get killed. He drinks hard liquor constantly, and is a shell of a person. Sometimes he thinks of Mi-jeong, and in his head, Mi-jeong is bathed in glowing light, like an angel.

    Mi-jeong as an animal:

The theme of Mi-jeong having feral animal instincts was reiterated several times. Exploding frogs. Eating the pet goat that was never given a name. Gu kept telling her that she needed to move to Seoul to blunt her animal instincts. That she needed to buy the latest model stroller.

Mi-jeong is still the ferocious animal. She hikes to the spot where she and Gu kissed, and encounters one of those wild dogs, who I guess wasn't caught? She successfully stares it down. She is such a bada$$.

But Seoul is not the place for Gu to dull his instincts. Seoul is the wild place, where Gu shouts like a scary maniac in public, and people tremble in fear.

Gu toasting his whiskey glass to the baby? Then having second thoughts about what he did, flinching slightly? Classic Gu-moment.

    Gi-jeong as an animal:

Gi-jeong once described herself as a Jindo dog. Jindo dogs are known for being ferocious and loyal. Gi-jeong seems like a flighty, non-serious person at times, but I think she is indeed very loyal. The woman who will catch her man's guillotined head in her skirt. (That remains indelible.) This couple is in it for the long haul.

    Chang-hee:

I don't know if his motor-mouth talking counts as "animal instinct." But seeing his father elated when he won the marathon at his high school was really touching. The way that he washed and blow-dried that cancer patient's hair, that's just very Chang-hee, for some reason. He, like Gi-jeong can seem silly sometimes. But at heart, he is a good guy.

So much happened in Episode 13. But it still feels like a set-up for what's coming next. This show is really something.

  4. Ho-sik and In-gwon, together 4eva! Now they are roomies.

Interesting revelation that Myeong-bo is an abused spouse. I thought he was just being a creepy guy, but it turns out, he has problems of his own. His wife really is too vicious! I hope Myeong-bo gets away from her and finds some peace.

I am happy to see that Eun-hee will travel to Seoul to make up with Miran. I think they can be more honest with each other and their friendship will reach a new level of understanding. Last week, it seemed like Miran only uses Eun-hee, but we are seeing different sides of her, and that isn't 100% the truth. Sometimes you really can misunderstand someone's intentions. It will be nice to see both sides.

It genuinely warmed my heart to see Hye-ja embrace Yeong-ok.

And what was happening with Manager Choi's computer when Mi Jung saw the texts addressed to her? Was that a fantasy or was that someone writing Choi thinking it was her workstation?

Manager Choi is cheating on his wife. He is cheating with... YEOM MI-JEONG.

YEOM MI-JEONG is the name of Gu's assistant at the club. His name used to be Sam-sik, and he kept saying he changed his name, but Gu apparently wouldn't say it. Gu finally calls him by his changed name, and it's YEOM MI-JEONG.

So Manager Choi is cheating on his wife with a man, who happens to be Gu's assistant.

(I think that's what's happening. I don't even know for sure. I'm so discombobulated and sad by the passing of Yeom Mother. :tears:)

I'm so thankful for this show and this forum. When I started watching the first five eps, my own mom passed away (week after Easter, right before her birthday and Mother's Day here in the States), so thank you for the warning as to what's coming in this weeks eps. I still haven't finished last week's because even though I find this show extremely soothing, it's also pretty heavy so I appreciate being spoiled. I'm only halfway through ep 11 and I still can't stand GJ. She is a real turn-off.

My condolences. I'm so sorry. I wish you peace and strength.

  6. The one who confronted Hansu about whether he kissed Eun-hee was Miran. (we didn't know who she was then)

Hansu lied to protect Eun-hee from humiliation. Eun-hee was so grateful and touched that she fainted from his coolness. (great scene)

Miran, on the other hand, was *indignant* that a good-looking boy would kiss Eun-hee, and was looking to humiliate her.

    Some friend.

I'm sure she will be redeemed. This is a show where there are no villains, and I'm sure she has a sob story that they're going to break out in the next episode, and things will end with everyone hugging and crying.

It occurs to me that Jeong-joon is sort of the male equivalent of Eun-hee. Very understanding of others, always there to take care of everyone, the peacemaker. Notice that when people get into big blowout fights in the marketplace, it's Eun-hee who yells at them to stop, and Jeong-joon to actually be the muscle that holds the fighters back. He's also kind of the pillar of this community, just much quieter.

  7. If Eun-pyo somehow agreed to Yeong-mi's request to keep Geon-wu's photo secret, Yeong-mi would continue to protect her (and Geon-wu's) reputation at the expense of her kids' safety.

Things only escalated after Geon-wu attacked Eun-pyo. And Yeong-mi's final red line only came when he said she wasn't pretty enough for him from jail. So that's where her priorities lie.

I will enjoy seeing Yeong-mi go scorched earth and release all the evidence she has against him. But I think Yeong-mi should also lose her kids. They should go live with their father, because their mother looked the other way while they were being abused.

And I will always wonder why Eun-pyo doesn't consult her husband, a police detective and the best husband on this show, when she receives incriminating evidence about people around her. The biggest mystery of all!

I am not so sure if he was a former "madam".  I always think he is some kind of the 'host-bar' manager or a confidant of Chairman Shin.  He was the one who managed people and club affairs.  The man in white suit who came to MJ's house said that Gu was at the top, everyone was beneath him.  I could see him as a manager, he had met many clients and mingled with them (men and women) and listened to their chatters and lousy singing.

Well, perhaps as the drama progresses, it will reveal more of him.

He specifically used the word "madam" when he was talking to his associate about Baek selling drugs.

I think that he had to leave Mi-jeong in part because he was afraid that she might get hurt, but also that he was deeply ashamed of the things he used to do.

I think the story of his liberation is that Mi-jeong finds out, and still accepts him.

    Spoiler

That's the story of "My Mister" as well. One character feels that they committed a sin that is not worthy of forgiveness, and another who tells them that it's okay. That acceptance comes to mean everything to that person.

  9. While I complained yesterday that Eun-pyo butting into Jinha's nude photo issue was probably not smart, it sure did move the story along. Wow, I really enjoyed seeing the s*** hit the fan on this one. Trash people getting their just desserts.

I really feel terrible for Yeong-mi's kids. But at least their nightmare is out of their lives.

Yeong-mi apparently gave a USB drive to Eun-pyo - who is looking at it on her computer, but we don't see what's in it.

Just want to give major thumbs up to Chu Ja-hyeon, the actress playing Chun-hee. She is so good.

  10. I try to like and understand Eun-pyo, but she really isn't a very mature person and her emotional intelligence is not very high.

She really has only one mode of operation, which is to immediately barge open doors, march up to people, and confront them, regardless of time or place. Her drama-queening ways can be satisfying when she's telling off the gossip-moms, or when she told off Dong-seok's tutors. But it's getting old, and that isn't always the best way to do things.

And her self-righteous, smug attitude is going to lose her this lecturing position after she's already been blackballed from that other university. Is it really worth it? For Jin-ha's dignity? Why? I mean, to be fair, those professors were being completely gross. But they are the people who are going to give or take her job away.

When she told Jin-ha off and slapped her, she knew very clearly that Jin-ha was a toxic friend. She can feel bad that Jin-ha died, but crying at her grave and believing that she misunderstood Jin-ha who genuinely loved her? That's delusional.

Has she forgotten how Jin-ha deliberately humiliated her at her art show? She doesn't have to hate Jin-ha for the rest of her life, but she shouldn't jeopardize her career over something that really isn't any of her business.

And why does she even care? It's not like anyone is grateful to her for defending Jin-ha's good name. I believe this is called "concern-trolling." In a way, it's almost like Jin-ha is gaslighting her from the grave.

Okay, didn't Yeong-bin *just* start violin lessons recently? Right when his sister began therapy? So now he's a musical genius? Wow. I'm happy for him. Not because he's a genius, but it's wonderful to see him not emotionally broken.

Hurray to Chun-hee for going to see a divorce lawyer.

Boo to Chun-hee for asking Man-su to run away with you. He is married! (from preview)

Haha, Geon-wu is such a LOSER. I don't know how I feel about Luis, but I loved how he made Geon-wu grovel at his feet.

Yeong-mi, you are so terrible. I can't even articulate how horrible you are as a person and as a mom.

(But I just noticed that her daughter Sae-bom is being played by the actress who played young Seon-ja in "Pachinko!" What a great little actress!)

Luis and Rhea: I guess she's not his sister!

    --

From the preview: It looks like Eun-pyo finds a piece of paper in the dumpster which says, "My Jeanne Hébuterne" on it. That may be the piece of paper the maid found in Jin-ha's studio.

  11. This one is from one of my favorite K-youtubers Dramaqueen, who has another channel called Ann-Fox:

    (no English subtitles, unfortunately):

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yW4dcJYtCYs&ab_channel=Dramaqueen드라마퀸

Remember how Chang-hee and Hyeon-ah went to the same club that Gu went to? And I wondered if someone would recognize Gu's Rolls Royce there, and do something to Chang-hee?

So Dramaqueen's theory is that the dent on the bumper was put there at the club. Probably by that guy (Hyeon-jin?) who visited the Yeom house and wanted to lure Gu back into their world.

So when Gu saw the dent, he knew who put it there, and that's why he ran to the train station and went to Seoul. He was never really chasing Chang-hee.

    --

She further discusses the fact that Gu was a former "madam" at a "host bar..."

This is shocking. We knew he was probably a gangster, but a prostitute and a pimp? That's something else.

But this adds some context to some things that Gu said to Mi-jeong. Gu said that Seoul women always babble about certain topics, so as a male prostitute/pimp, that's the kind of women he dealt with all the time. But Mi-jeong was different from them, and therefore she was someone he could appreciate for real.

And if the writer was going all the way with the religious references, Jesus embraces all kinds of sinners including prostitutes, so...

Phoebe is making her next project with PD Shin Woo-chul, who made "Secret Garden," among other hit shows:

His last project was "Melting Me Softly," which wasn't a success.

So that means, "Love (ft. Marriage & Divorce)" is probably dead and now buried.

The world will never see the Seo-Bro-Bots in action.

Well, I sat through 3 seasons of this show. I feel like I have BEEN THROUGH IT.

    My best scenes:

    - When Dong-mi watched her husband collapse and die in front of her eyes, and she beamed with joy... freeze frame... and ♫ "I'm in love again..." Chills! This show hooked me right here.

    - When Hyang-gi told her father OFF! That was awesome.

    - I loved that episode where Pi-yeong faced off with Yu-shin for an hour.

    - I enjoyed it when Hye-ryeong

    (1) Attacked Song Won with a broken dish and beat on Sa-hyeon in front of his parents

    (2) Her F***-you press conference

Yeah, she was a major B but she was fun to watch!

I wish all the actors a lot of luck. Because we know that they have also BEEN THROUGH IT.

And thanks to everyone here! We have BEEN THROUGH IT!!

Yes and it makes me so glad it's her character because I really like the actress' professionalism and acting depth. Her character is written so well as well. So relatable. It's too bad she broke up with Ho-sik when they were younger. He may not be rich but seemed like a really decent guy.

I felt that Eun-hee is still too generous to Miran. If I were her, after that incident I would have stopped speaking to her after that. That was the absolute straw to make her so worried thinking she was suicidal. Drunk or not, that wasn't funny to someone who cared so much for her welfare.

I wished she didn't bottled up her hurt for that long. She is going to explode that's for sure.

Yes, definitely. (I really love this actress, too.)

I see a sort of parallel with her relationship with Hansu. Her parents died when she was young, so she had to shoulder so much responsibility her entire adult life. So the friendships she formed during high school were very precious to her.

Her first love turned out to be someone who tried to use her, and it was deeply disappointing for her fantasy to be shattered.

And her "best friend" actually never treated her with kindness or loyalty. She was a selfish user all this time, but Eun-hee was too nice, too loving, too much of a good friend to realize this. But if you think about her fond memories, they always have that edge of cruelty:

    (1) Miran suggested Eun-hee pretend to attempt suicide so that her father will let her continue to attend school. It worked, but that was scary that Miran would actually suggest for Eun-hee pretend to drink poison.

    (2) And while Miran helped Eun-hee study for her GED, she threw water on her. Even if they laughed together about it, it just felt cruel.

    (3) And of course there is that awful lunchbox scene. "How dare you complain about the food that I give you as charity!"

It just feels like Eun-hee was always a plaything for Miran, and Miran was always pushing her buttons to see how far she can push Eun-hee before she finally stands up for herself. (I hope that moment is coming soon.)

At the very least, Hansu was kind and generous to Eun-hee when they were young, and even when he was thinking about using Eun-hee for money, ultimately, he didn't ask, and even returned the money to her. I mean, that was not his greatest moment for sure. But overall, he is a much better friend to Eun-hee than Miran.

  15. I've been trying to figure out why Chun-hee would make a deal with Dr. Jerk to marry her.

But after thinking it over, I guess the answer is that the hospital would try to blame her anyway for the patient's death, because it will be less liability for them to blame a nurse than to admit that one of their doctors screwed up.

So she decided that she will be blamed anyway, so she might as well get something out of it.

Anyway, her life is much bleaker than I assumed, and honestly, I still like her and hope things turn out okay for her.

I do like how they introduce much heavier-than-expected storylines, but still also manage to work the burdens of motherhood stuff into it.

@the_sweetroad the spiritual/religious reference is very obvious with the word of worship tbh. It is usually use to worship the God. Gu who is really depressed and doesnt have any meaning or reason to live were asked to worship MJ. And because of that he is hanging there, have a reason to continue his live. For religious people you need to worship your God, that is the reason you live.

I wanted to share an observation I read on a Korean website: When we see the characters after the time jump, Gu is dressed in a long black coat. He is dressed like a priest.

Mi-jeong is wearing a blue coat, and the color blue is associated with the Virgin Mary.

So Gu worships Mi-jeong, just as the priest worships the Virgin Mary. And Mi-jeong's statement that she wants to hold him as a one-year-old baby = rebirth.

  17. So many things to unpack, you guys.

    1. Hyang-gi mentioned that she had a hard time looking sad when attending funerals -> Gu dealing with that very same thing at Baek's funeral.

This scene says so many things. On the surface, he seems like he is laughing because he is happy that Baek is dead. But it's obvious to us that he is laughing to keep from crying - his heart is breaking because he had to leave, and I also don't think that he actually feels great that Baek is dead. Baek was his enemy within this organization, but he obviously did not really want to fight Baek. But one word from him led to a chain reaction, and boom, Baek is dead.

Another thing that Baek said earlier that left an impression - that Gu cried for days when his dog died, but did not cry for Baek's sister, his girlfriend who committed suicide. And that also reminds me that Gu seemed genuinely skeeved out when Mi-jeong would talk about exploding frogs or never naming their pet goat. That he is a tough guy gangster, but also a very sensitive dude.

One last note about this scene: no one does anything to him! They do shoot him looks, but no one dares touch Gu. So in a way, it's him flexing his power within the organization.

    2. Jun-ho (Mi-jeong's Jerk Team Leader) mentioning that he wanted to start a Marathon Club at work -> Gu and Chang-hee running an actual marathon.

    3. That he brought a parasol for the wild dogs, so they would have shade. But it was the parasol that may have been the reason they were caught. Chang-hee had requested for city officials to capture the wild dogs before, but they said that they couldn't even shoot them with tranquilizer shots because they were so fast. But maybe the parasol gave them shade, so they had a place to rest, and that was what led to them being caught.

So the question is, was that intentional? Did Gu want the dogs to be caught? Maybe he wanted to clear them away before he left so the Yeom family could be safer.

Or was the parasol Sanpo, where Gu could rest for a short while? But now he's trapped in a cage, unable to escape The Dark World.

  18. Miran and Eun-hee.

This show depicts such real and nuanced relationships so well. It's so good you guys.

The pretty, rich girl who manipulated and used the poor, not-as-pretty girl as her errand girl. The Princess and her Maid, the Overlord and her Underling.

If anyone is the center of this omnibus drama, it's Eun-hee. She depicted her hurt, the damage to her self-esteem, and other complex feelings towards her "best friend" so well. Another powerful tearfest ahead.

Wow, Ho-sik really is the only one who really cares about Eun-hee's feelings. And he also happens to be the best looking guy in this age group. Go for it, Eun-hee!

  19. Liberation Club

Hurray to Hyang-gi from the Happiness Center who joined the Liberation Club! She wanted to be liberated from her resting smiling face, and how that's difficult for her when she attends funerals, because she has a hard time looking sad.

And that ends up being Gu's exact problem at Mr. Baek's funeral! He can't help laughing to keep from crying!

    So many layers, you guys.

    The Dark World

The Rolls Royce got a boo-boo! Who didn't see that coming? Well, there's the end of Chang-hee's Rolls-Royce-Therapy.

That Gu-Chang-hee chase was amazing. The way that Du-hwan rode up with a scooter to give them water? AMAZING! I was laughing SO HARD.

Pretty sure that Gu let Chang-hee win. Gu Ja-gyeong, after all, is a track and field athlete. I think he just wanted to run hard and think - during which he thought about his late girlfriend and Mi-jeong. And that was how he made his way back to Seoul and begins his descent into the Dark World.

Mr. Baek's death by rebar. YIKES.

Thank you for posting that handwritten calendar that Mr. Yeom had hanging at his workshop @Skysky - proving that this show takes place in 2019.

Also want to point out how the calendar weekdays are simply marked "GU" with a circle around it, which is Mr. Yeom's way of keeping track of the days Gu worked at the workshop. There are apparently no other events to keep track of except GU. GU is the center of everyone's world!

    We all have GU-fever.

    The break-up.

The break-up was very Mi-jeong, and very GU. So little was said, and yet so much was said.

I interpreted Gu's comments like, "You should move to Seoul and buy an expensive stroller," as a sort of wistful invitation for her to come live with him. Her response, "I will carry my baby on my back," is her way of saying, I am not changing who I am.

But it's not over for her. She wants to see him a couple of times a month. She even says she will call. But we know what life he is going back to, and having sweet dates with his girlfriend isn't really something he can deal with anymore. In fact, the very reason he is leaving is to protect her.

    Gi-jeong and Tae-hoon.

    Tae-hoon, you've got yourself a handful!

"Let's sleep together next time!" Gi-jeong, you be you. Catch his severed head if he is ever beheaded!

Tae-hoon's daughter is the most mature person in this family.

And I do applaud her aunts for how much they love her. But ladies, don't let your lives revolve around your niece. No, do not forgo your life and become fossils for her sake. But I do really like the bond between these siblings. They've had to stick together like glue in order to survive after losing their parents so young, and I love that it's depicted with such detail.

(And yes, I believe GU-MI slept together after their first kiss.)

  20. I loved the Seon-ah and Dong-seok story arc and how the story ended. Although they ended apart, for now, I think it's important for her to become stronger on her own without having him to lean on all the time. The last time we see her, we see her taking the first positive steps towards healing, and that was so nice to see. I hope she will be okay.

I'm also glad that her husband didn't turn out to be a terrible guy. He does seem to be genuinely rooting for her to recover from her crippling depression and become a good mother to their son, even if he didn't know how to help her while they were married. They didn't work as a married couple, but they can obviously become good co-parents.

  21. Well, all the ships are sailing!

    GU-MI: Kiss!

Gi-jeong + Tae-hoon: Adorable! I loved that whole scene in which he had to park his car far away and run back, and how she told him to rest for one minute. He is so into her! And the way he chased his sister away? "Get up... Leave... Leave." There was a whole big conversation contained in those few words, which was him saying to her, "You do not have the right to interfere in my romantic relationships," and her begrudgingly accepting this fact.

Yeah, he's all in. And Gi-jeong's reaction at the end was so cute!

Of course, his daughter is another issue. But I believe he will deal with it with love and thoughtfulness. In just a few scenes, we already know that he's a decent person and a good father.

Chang-hee + Rolls Royce: Watching the sunset together. True love.

    --

On a more serious note, I really loved Mi-jeong's monologue about how while her friends were praying for good grades and good friendships, the questions she had for God were existential questions.

When Chang-hee took Hyeon-ah to that club, it was the same club Gu went to! I wondered if maybe someone working there would recognize the Rolls Royce and do something to Chang-hee.

I also really enjoyed Gi-jeong's conversation at her work meeting, with her work superior Jin-woo and that other lady. The fact that she can babble on and on complaining about how much she hates standing in lines, and openly talk about her dating life, and how both Jin-woo and that other lady show so much interest and take her so seriously... it was really interesting to me.

Chang-hee's work superior and his friend Min-gyu seem to genuinely like and appreciate him, and they actually have very honest, interesting conversations together.

On that same note, I want to talk about Mi-jeong and her workplace. I mean, this guy, her team leader or whatever? (Choi Jun-Ho is his name.) He is harassing her so much! I will seriously enjoy this guy getting his butt kicked by someone.

I did enjoy how Mi-jeong artfully told him off in the elevator! Okay, not really, but there is no one in the elevator who didn't know who she was talking about.

I want to make a translation note here. On Netflix, they translated '지겨운' as 'tedious,' which is correct when you are talking about a thing - like "tedious work." But when you are talking about a person, it actually means: "odious, loathsome." So what she said to him is much more harsh than "tedious person," which just means that you are boring. Instead, she basically called him a odious person to his face, and that was much harsher than what the subtitles conveyed.

So what I observed is that Gi-jeong has a relatively comfortable situation at her workplace, where her very open and introspective personality is accepted, even appreciated by her co-workers. And Chang-hee, also, is appreciated by the people he works with, although he has Areum to deal with. I wonder how much of that is a function of their ages, and how much seniority and respect they've earned.

Mi-jeong is having a much harder time - she has a boss who undermines all her work and demeans her every chance he gets. (This guy Jun-ho needs to burn!) And she was previously harassed about joining one of those flippin' clubs, which was so oppressive that it made her cry. And although her co-workers aren't "mean-girl-ing" her as much as I first thought, she clearly finds it burdensome and awkward that she doesn't share their interests in, or can't afford to join them for things like bikini-shopping and vacation-planning. When the show first began, she really seemed beaten down by all of it. So it's really nice to see that receiving love (er, worship) is making her stronger.
