  1. Just want to report some K-netz theories:

    (1) That nude photo of Jinha was not taken by Geon-wu (Creepy Director). He stole it from Jinha or Luis, just like how he stole her hair and clothes.

His claim that he slept with Jinha is also false.

    (2) Leah Bunuel is being referred as "Seo Ae-gyo" as a reference to "Na Ae-gyo," the name of the doppelganger of one the main characters in "Penthouse."

  2. It's really funny to see K-netz youtubers going absolutely GUGU for Mr. Gu. He is the hottest man ever! Sex on a stick! He's going to need bodyguards while walking down the streets of Seoul because women are going to maul him.

I always liked him but did not think of him as a sex symbol before. Just a very good actor with a wry sense of humor. The first time I ever saw him was in "Mother," where he played someone truly evil and scary. He was so good that just seeing his face would seriously freak you out.

Now he is "YOU ARE SO HANDSOME, COME TO MAMA!" level of popular. Every little flicker of his face is "SO ADORABLE, I DIE!" Haha.

Considering how he spends most of his time dressed in a ratty t-shirt soaked in sweat, that's pretty awesome. Charisma!

One thing I find MLB to have in common with "My Ahjussi" is how quietly fierce the FLs are. Ji-an was a fighter and she defended her man. Mi-jeong will do the same. Just like how she chased away those wild dogs.

  3. Luis's name is LUIS BUNUEL, which is the name of a famous Spanish director, which I always thought was weird.

Anyway, Luis Bunuel made "Belle de jour," a famous movie starring Catherine Deneuve. So is it a coincidence that the nude photo of Jinha that Creepy Director has looks like the "Belle de jour" poster? Or just another non sequitur?

Kim Gyu-ri is back! Her name is Leah Bunuel. How does she have the same last name as he does? Is she his sister or something? So mysterious.

Anyway, I knew that the Jinha mystery isn't over.

    --

Okay, we already knew some of the facts about Chun-hee's weird marriage with Dr. Jerk, but seeing how it actually happened was bonkers! Dr. Jerk killed a patient then blamed Chun-hee. She decides to take the fall for it, in exchange for him marrying her - just because he was a doctor? How can she even be in the same room with that guy, let alone have two kids with him and pretend to be a married couple? That was just so sad and nuts. Why, Chun-hee?

Anyway, I know her life is a mess, but I still enjoy her friendship with Eun-pyo. I'm glad that they are both being honest about their kids' problems, and it was so nice to see Dong-seok look happy while playing with Yu-bin.

Calm before the storm, I guess?

    --

Creepy Director... ugh. I feel the urge to barf whenever I see him onscreen. That's not just me, right?

So Yeong-mi's "red line" is not him abusing her kids, but if he sleeps with another woman? Ugh, what a gross couple.

I love his weird logic defending himself: "Yes, I slept with her. But she's dead now, so it doesn't matter!"

    --

    My prediction:

Chun-hee went to Jinha's place that night due to Jinha's threat to report her to the police. But when she arrives, she witnessed Jinha's murder by Creepy Director. She's keeping quiet about it because she doesn't want anyone to know why she was at Jinha's place.

I know Chun-hee did some very bad things, but I hope that she somehow ends up okay, at least for the sake of her kids.

Hopefully the police will catch all the drug dealers and Dr. Jerk and throw them all in jail. In the same cell with Creepy Director, please.

  4. Ep. 11:

    - Eun-pyo takes Dong-seok to a local child psychology hospital.

    - Chun-hee also finds out that Yu-bin has been lying, so she asks online for advice and Eun-pyo suggests the hospital she takes Dong-seok to.

    - Dong-seok is still mute, but asks his mom to see Henri. So Eun-pyo ends up taking her kids to Jin-ha's old house where her stepmother lives. When Jin-ha was younger, the lady who became her stepmother was her caregiver because her mom was unable to take care of her. Jinha's biological mom suffered from schizophrenia, and committed suicide.

For whatever reason, Henri draws a picture of his mom's family, and explains who they are to Dong-seok and Dong-ju.

After this visit, Dong-seok's psychological symptoms gets worse.

    - Eun-pyo and Chun-hee run into each other at the kids' psychology office. Episode ends.

So, a few nice things. It's nice to see the two moms taking their kids' mental health seriously. It was nice to see Eun-pyo yell at the gross tutor who is driving the kids hard like farm animals, but not taking care of their emotional needs at all. It was nice when Chun-hee realizes that she needs to be better and refuse to keep selling illegal drugs.

And it was nice to see Yun-ju finally speak up and tell off the gossipy moms who were tearing apart Dong-seok yet again, enjoying his downfall. Well, she didn't just tell them off - one of the moms attacked her, but Yun-ju fought back pretty hard, so that was fun. Not a great moment for the kids, but it's nice to know that Yun-ju will probably stop kissing the butts of the neighborhood moms from now on.

Looks like Chun-hee and Eun-pyo end up being friends again. I am in favor of that, actually, because I think that if they both finally let go of living vicariously through their kids, they can become good moms and good friends to each other.

But it's not meant to last, because it looks like Eun-pyo's husband is going to question one of Chun-hee's drug clients. Uh-oh.

I guess the last notable thing is Jul-pin's family - Jul-pin and Sae-bom finally work up the courage to tell their (divorced) father and mother about their stepfather's abuse. Unfortunately, Yeong-mi, the mom, just tells them that they stepdad is "an artiste" so he's sensitive and temperamental. UGGGGHHHH. Girl, you are headed for major trouble.

    --

Okay, so my personal theory is that there really is a lot more to Eun-pyo and Jin-ha's relationship than what we've been told so far. It's not quite as simple as - Eun-pyo just felt inferiority complex towards Jin-ha due to her wealth, beauty, and great talent.

The show began with Eun-pyo dreaming about giving a lecture on Salieri Syndrome, and Jin-ha saying, "You can never beat me," therefore making it look as if Eun-pyo is the one suffering from Salieri Syndrome - that she is mediocre and jealous of Jin-ha's effortless genius.

My theory is that Jin-ha is actually the one who is mediocre. Recall that scene in which Eun-pyo and Jin-ha both painted a ballerina, and Eun-pyo covered hers with white paint after seeing Jin-ha's painting, feeling that hers was inferior.

Jin-ha's painting is a copy of a famous Edgar Degas painting - which, for some reason, is not addressed. (There's no way that Eun-pyo wouldn't know that, since even I know that, and I am not an art history student.)

So I'm just not sure that Jin-ha is really talented, except for everyone simply saying so. I think she had a career as an artist because her father was an art professor, and probably pulled a lot of strings for her. But I think the final revelation is that Eun-pyo is the true talent that Jin-ha was envious of her entire life.

Anyway... I would really like to also find out how Jin-ha died. I don't think it was suicide.

And my final out-there theory is that Dong-seok is Luis' son, not her husband's. Luis is a genius, so his sons are both geniuses.

I want to point out that these lines are a little mis-translated. He is calling his son a "go-ja," which means "eunuch."

So he isn't saying, "My son has no sperm!" He is saying, "My son has no penis!"

    --

Well, this show is fun. Most people know the basics of this story - a virgin gets pregnant at the doctor's office due to a mix-up - but I haven't seen the original. So I don't know how close they are sticking to the story, but I am enjoying it so far!

  6. Seon-a showed up to family court without a lawyer, and she hasn't thought things through. Just the night before, she brought her son to her husband over 2 hours late, with no phone call or message. Then she wouldn't let go of her son's arm and made him cry. On the one hand, we understand that she feels a strong urge to not let him go because she loves him so much. But we also know that this is the worst thing that she can do at that moment.

Her husband took Yeol to the hospital when it probably wasn't necessary in order to make a big deal about it, and so that he has evidence to show the judge the next morning.

The first priority is for Seon-a to really get better. She's been taking meds, but she hasn't tried talk therapy. Like Dong-seok says, she should try everything possible in order to become healthy first.

    --

The morality police of Korea are being quite harsh on this show - that it's putting a romantic spin on high school kids having sex, and the show even features a middle schooler (Seon-a) offering to have sex with a classmate in order to get attention from her dad. That it's normalizing deviant behavior among youth, and will surely lead to corruption.

The same sort of people are saying that Seon-a doesn't deserve her son back, and the son will surely be better off with his father, because his family is obviously rich and living in Seoul.

I'm confused. Is this a joke or is she serious?

    Apparently Phoebe is serious.

    Serious about trolling, that is?

The theory is that she left a lot of questions unanswered in Season 4 to make the viewers demand another season. She waited a week after the show ended to see how much demand there was, and now she knows that it's not that much. So she's just throwing "The AI Seo brothers" out there in order to troll people. It's her way of raising her middle finger at everyone.

The questions that are being raised: Can robots impregnate a woman? Can a robot be possessed by Grandpa Ghost? Can robots dream about snakes?

It kind of seems like she's trolling the viewers because the actor playing Seo Ban was so robotic. "Fine, I'll make him an actual robot!"

But if this was really the story from the beginning, he is a really good actor! Haha...

    --

Anyway, I don't actually believe this **** anymore. Season 4 was full of plenty of useless stuff. That storyline about the housekeepers? Not necessary at all. 1/2 of the final episode was spent on feet-stink-noodles. If she really wanted to finish the story, she had plenty of time.

She either just wants to drag this on for another season for more money, or she really is just out of ideas.

My bet is that Season 4 will not happen.

Sorry, but I don’t get the ending of Ep 10. The brother is over the moon driving the RR car but the couple running in the field dressed in white, New Year’s Eve and Mr Gu walking out of the club and it’s snowing. Did I miss something?

I haven't confirmed this, but according to K-netz, this show takes place in 2019. The news articles that Gu read aloud are allegedly from 2019, and Mr. Yeom had a calendar on the wall in his cabinet-making space which said 2019.

The scene in which the couple is running through the field is probably a vision or a dream - that they are blissfully happy in the country, but Gu suddenly holds Mi-jeong back, and they both have a concerned expression. Most likely, people from Gu's past life threaten Mi-jeong in some way.

Mr. Gu is walking into the club, and they show that it's New Year's Eve 2022.

I'm sure plenty of people are dissecting the videos to see if there are further clues, but that's all I know.

I know some people are shipping Chang-hee with Areum (the annoying co-worker) but I'm thumbs down on that, personally. At first, she seems as if she just talks way too much, and lacks self-awareness. But the way she cut him down at the sushi restaurant for being a rube because he tried to wrap his tuna in seaweed? Or the way she threw the package of seaweed on the table? Just rude. Not just to Chang-hee, but to everyone sitting there. She is not a good person, and she does not deserve him.

So despite the very different personalities of all three of the Yeom siblings, they actually have a lot in common, the most important thing being that they are all brutally honest. They are never anything less than completely themselves, at all times.

Another nice thing is that they each have that One Friend. That One True Friend who patiently listens to them babbling endlessly. Despite the fact that we all like the Yeom siblings, in real life, someone who vents in that stream of consciousness style for hours can be quite tiresome. (Gi-jeong and Chang-hee, not Mi-jeong). So they each have that One True Friend who listens and never tells them to shut up. I think that's quite lovely.

One last thing I want to mention is how cute was it when Gu told them to change the kitchen sink at that club, and that they should order it from "Sanpo Sinks?" That is just so cool, I can't even.

No wonder Chang-hee is in love.

    Phoebe says:

Dong-ma becomes brain-dead. His father, who is a neurosurgeon, in addition to being Chairman of SF Electronics, operates on his brain directly, and he becomes an AI robot.

Seo Ban was *always* an AI robot. That is his "big secret."

(It wasn't just robotic acting, he was a real robot! )

She planned to finish this show in Season 3, but there were so many stories that couldn't be wrapped up. And she didn't want to end the stories carelessly. She feels bad, she knows the viewers are dissatisfied, so she is sorry. When asked if there would be a Season 4, she responded "that is not up to the writer."

  10. Gi-jeong

Wow, her life and emotions are both extremely normal and relatable, but also extremely messy. Girl has NO filter whatsoever, and spits out whatever thought pops in her brain. It is adorable and really funny. The way that she sits at her desk at work and just wails and cries... haha. She is just a ball of raw emotion at all times.

Tae-hun is clearly interested. But aside from his sensitive daughter, who was understandably hurt about her parents splitting up, the other huge obstacle is his sister Gyeong-seon who is too possessive of him, and uses him and his daughter as some sort of crutch for having become an old maid.

All I can say to Tae-hun is, "Fighting!"

    Chang-hee

I loved that entire Rolls Royce scene. How even just the idea of that car was enough to make him happy enough to endure Jeong Areum who usually annoys him to death.

It was pretty illuminating that Chang-hee was not the only person who finds Jeong Areum obnoxious - it turns out, she's a pretty big problem at the company and everyone is aware what a complete pill she is.

It's nice to find out that despite the seeming drudgery of their respective jobs, Mi-jeong is actually talented, and Chang-hee is also earning points at work for the good work that he does, even though some of his anger is being quelled by Rolls-Royce-intoxication.

That entire scene where he kneels in front of Gu's Rolls Royce and presses his cheek to it like some holy relic... hahaha. Or how he stops by to use Gu's bathroom all the time just to fondle the key... amazing. This show is just... amazing.

    To Chang-hee, I say, "Fighting!"

    Mi-jeong

Yes, as it was hinted, Gu was working in the underworld. He's going to decide whether he's going to keep living in the country making cabinets or go back to where he came from to become king of the underworld. Looks like he chose the latter.

    Poor Mi-jeong.

But the story won't end there.

I don't feel like I have to say, "Fighting, Mi-jeong!" because she is a warrior. (Did you see the way she chased off those dogs?)

    Thoughts

One consistent thought I am having after this weekend's episodes is that the kindness and love that you show someone is not wasted. That it counts, and it yields something good, somewhere.

Gi-jeong mustered all her courage to confess to Tae-hun. It was gloriously awkward and cringe-inducing, but also raw and beautiful. The results were not what she wanted, but it meant something to him and he was grateful and touched. Honesty and earnestness means something. (Also that guy at her work, he's looking at her with so much love in his eyes. No wonder his girlfriend is jealous.)

Whatever happens between the Gu-Mi couple, you can't help but think that they ultimately helped each other with all their mutual worshipping. All I can hope is that they are better off and stronger.

Everyone, for the upcoming week... "Fighting!"

  11. Wakeup calls.

This show is full of people stuck in their blues, but each have that moment when someone gives them a badly needed wakeup call.

    Dong-seok and Sun-ah

What tragic lives. They both had such tough childhoods. If Sun-ah's father was going to drown himself in the ocean, why did he have to take his poor daughter along? Poor Dong-seok lost both his father and sister to the ocean, and he's disappointed by his mom's life choices, even though she probably didn't have any other choice. Their sad childhoods left a mark, and they haven't yet gotten past it. Let's hope that they support each other through this to the other side.

Dong-seok's words to Sun-ah were harsh, but it was the wakeup call she needed. Did she want her son to live out the same legacy of depression and suicide? Or could she break the cycle? Dong-seok had plenty of hardship and he hasn't made the best choices either, but he is wise enough to know what to say to her to get her to see a different perspective - which he literally tells her to do. If the ocean makes you seasick, then turn around and look at the mountains.

He was there for her when they were young, and he will be there for her now.

    In-gwon and Ho-sik

I know that these two dads and their literal pigheadedness wasn't always easy to root for, but it was nice to see them finally make up and reach an understanding. Seeing them get on their knees towards each other in apology, and addressing each other as "sadon." Huge, meaningful gestures. They got their wakeup calls once again. These kids are gonna make it.

    Hansu and Eun-hee

Hansu needed a wakeup call, and he got one when Eun-hee beat him over the head with a pillow.

And Eun-hee is the throughline for all the characters. She is the pillar of this community, the solid center. Hurray for Eun-hee, she is just the best.

(I am blessed with two great kids and an awesome husband. On this Mother's Day, I had a nice time with my family. But when I saw Eun-hee crack open an ice-cold beer with a box of chicken, I couldn't help but think... ahhh, yes, that's the life.)

Everyone's got the blues. But they will be okay.

We all need a wakeup call sometimes, hopefully from someone who loves us.

  12. These poor kids are cracking under pressure. They are having full-blown mental breakdowns.

I hope that Eun-pyo begins to take Dong-seok's well-being seriously. He is a smart boy, but if he gets burned out, he could give up studying completely, and live the rest of his life as an unfulfilled genius, not enjoying life and not accomplishing anything.

And Yu-bin and Yeong-bin are breaking my heart. Yu-bin has become a delusional, pathological liar. Yeong-bin has been broken since we first saw him. And Dong-seok has turned from a happy, jolly boy to a withdrawn, feral mute boy. What all these kids need are therapists, not cram schools!

What makes Eun-pyo different is that she has a loving mom and a great husband. I think she will eventually come to her senses.

Chun-hee, I'm not so sure about. She has no real support system, and also, the crimes. Really bad crimes.

Man-su, you have a wife and child. Please stop being stupid.

  13. Season 4...

Nothing is going to happen if no one is willing to pay for it.

Apparently Phoebe was being paid about $80,000 per episode. So of course she will want another season.

But never say never. This show is apparently #1 on Netflix Japan.

  14. HAHAHA, goodness. HAHAHAHAHA.

So Chun-hee calls up Man-su to apologize for making him take the fall for either smuggling drugs or killing someone, then dumping him to marry Doctor Jerk. Okay. Then she kicks him out of her cab and abandons him in the middle of the road. WOW. HAHAHAHAHA.

Chun-hee, I begrudgingly admire you. You are the queen of the stone cold b**ches!

I have to admit that I LOVED Eun-pyo using her smart son, driving him to win an award, and then sticking it to Chun-hee! I loved how Chun-hee took it SO HARD. So that was fun. Also loved all the other moms falling in line to kiss Eun-pyo's butt after badmouthing her all this time. Ha ha, yes, I did enjoy all of that.

Having said that... I have to also say that it is wrong! Eun-pyo, you should encourage your child and help him have opportunities for his future success. But you should not use your child to win stupid mommy wars with other moms! His well-being comes first! That's what all these dumb moms are doing and you have sunk to their level!

Also, you happen to have another child, Dong-ju. (He is so cute!) That child you neglected and caused him to break his leg. Just because he miraculously recovered in one day (apparently), doesn't mean you should continue to neglect him!

So... stuff is coming crashing down tomorrow. Luis is the CEO of "Pharm de Lyon" where Man-su works. (An heir of an European pharmaceutical company. Yeah, he's mega-rich.) So he knows a thing or two about drugs, and he apparently knows exactly what Chun-hee has been doing, and also that she accidentally killed someone while she was a nurse! Oh, Chun-hee, all that crime stuff is catching up to you!

Looks like Yeong-bin does something bad to Dong-seok in order to make his mom happy. And let's not forget Yu-bin and her glaring daggers at Dong-seok, then falling apart later when she doesn't win that competition. Chun-hee, your kids are getting really messed up. These poor kids!

They may snarl at each other like rabid dogs, but they do live upstairs and downstairs from each other. They couldn't hate each other that much. It turns out, they are so hurt by each other because of how much they loved each other! Wahahaha.

What an amazing show. The ones who love you the most can also hurt you the most. When In-gwon and Hyeon embraced each other and cried at the end... ahhh, just thinking about it is making me cry again. :tears: And then the camera pans out to show Ho-sik standing in the rain watching them... hahaha, all the tears. This show.

Why is this show airing at nearly the same time as "My Liberation Notes?" Two masterpieces are both airing on weekends? They couldn't space them out? I have things to do!

  16. Just to entertain y'all:

Here are some random post titles from DCinside Gallery: https://gall.dcinside.com/board/lists/?id=wln&page=2

    - No skills, no responsibility, strange personality.

    - Will Season 4 end this? Beating a dead horse. It will suck like this one.

    - You must not try to understand perverts. Perverts are always trying to confuse normal people.

    - I guess Seo Ban was not a eunuch.

    - Phoebe is probably laughing and enjoying the viewers' distress. Psychopath.

    - Stop talking about Season 4. Don't you feel sorry for the staff?

    - This really sucks. Phoebe really sucks.

    - F**k. Did they really roll noodles using the father-in-law's foot massage bar?

    - The actors are innocent. The writer has problems.

    - Bu Hye-ryeong has committed only one sin. Being a modern woman, the type that the writer hates.

    - Why is the show obsessed with gelato?

    - Seo Ban's secret. He hates gelato.

    - I'm glad I didn't watch this. I read the articles and it's a mess.

    - Worst drama I've ever seen. Song Won is the star.

    - Maybe Dong-ma is punished for having made the ladies cry.

    - Being hit in the head with that would not kill you.

    - Why would you roll out noodles with that?

    - I will never watch another Phoebe drama! But I probably will. F**k.

    - Maybe in Season 4, the original Yu-shin and Sa-hyeon will appear along with the fake ones.

    - Phoebe reads all the internet comments. You know that, right?

    - Phoebe is not in her right mind.

    - Phoebe dramas are abnormal.

    - Dong-ma, thank you for taking off your clothes. I love you.

    - Actors playing Hae-ryun and Hye-ryeong should sue the writer.

    - Why is everyone so obsessed with gelato? Is the show sponsored by gelato?

    - I think Dong-mi = Phoebe. Mental patient. Belongs in prison.

    - My mom watched the final episode and she was so mad that she didn't pay attention to making my dinner. So I am mad now.

    - Love (ft. Ghosts and Shaman).

    --

Sorry, @chococarmela! Phoebe is the writer of this drama. :)

    --

Best prediction for Season 4 that I read: Hye-ryeong becomes a shaman and Song Won becomes a grim reaper, and they have an epic battle in the afterworld!

I can't believe the time I have invested in this drama, what started out as something good has turned in to a train wreck! Absolutely no consideration for the viewers. They should feel ashamed for what they have put us through.

I agree. Phoebe really did not do anything. Nothing happened in Season 3.

Pi-yeong and Dong-ma did get married. He dumped Gabin suddenly. He literally just told her, "Goodbye. I still love you." Then he immediately meets Pi-yeong and says, "I want to marry you." All because he happened to hear Pi-yeong scream at a dermatologist's office. And then the marriage happens, because he's mega-rich and his body is hot. Why would she say no?

I mean, that was just some real lazy writing. These two were put together simply because the writer pushed them together. There's no rhyme or reason. But of course we rooted for them because he's rich and hot, and her husband cheated on her, and we want him to suffer.

As someone else aptly described, this is a 12-year-old's version of love. More like 6-year-old, actually. But yes, it's a simulacrum of love.

And Si-eun and Seo Ban did get together, because they went to an art class together for a few days 40 years ago. Yeah... WHAT. I think it would have been better if Seo Ban just naturally fell in love with Si-eun while working at the same company for TWENTY years - which also happened.

Okay, so two enjoyable things happened this season. The Seo brothers were the knights in shining armor who gave fairytale endings to two of the wives whose husbands cheated on them. That was fun. And for good measure this was rubbed into Hye-ryeong's face, who for some reason coveted both brothers, for some extra nastiness. I don't even like Hye-ryeong! But even I felt bad for her. All that Hye-ryeong abuse was pointless.

And we did enjoy seeing the husbands' bitterness and shock when their wives moved on with their princeling husbands. Ha ha, yes, that was fun. But that's it, folks. That is all you get.

ETA: Dong-mi did get dragged to a mental institution in a straitjacket. I guess that was fine, but it didn't have the impact it should after dragging that out all season.

So the writer tosses in a little boy ghost and Seo Ban's secret just to get you to wonder what's going to happen. Throw in a couple of grim reapers will get you wondering, "Who's going to die?" And the answer is NOTHING.

George Lucas famously said, "I can create emotion on screen. Turn on the camera, hold up a kitten, and strangle it. There will be an emotional reaction from the audience." (paraphrased) And it's true. If you see a kitten being strangled, you will react. But it's manipulative and gratuitous.

This entire show was watching kittens being strangled. Take a juicy premise that's guaranteed to provoke some emotion - adultery, incest - then twist and wring it until nothing is left.

And then leave some random questions unanswered so that you can extort the studio to give you money for Season 4.

Man, I gotta tell you, I was pretty excited for S3 after the S2 finale. And I was bummed when 3 of the main actors left the show. But hey, they were the smart ones.

  18. Awesome episode. I really love this show.

I really felt all of Gi-jeong's trepidation and despair. Like *all* of it. She really likes this guy, and she goes for it, and she is crushed. And to add insult to injury - or injury to insult? - she gets her own arm fractured due to an incredibly dumb scheme that she volunteered for! Man, that was soooo... wow. I felt that. The clumsiness. The embarrassment. The cringe.

I really do love all these characters, but I have a special affection for Gi-jeong. She really wears her heart on her sleeve, so to speak. I mean, she really just puts it out there, in all her raw, intense glory. Mi-jeong is no slouch when it comes to raw, heartfelt declarations, but wow, Gi-jeong is just next level. It's like she exposes her actual beating heart.

And it was really a major moment when Mi-jeong cried for Gi-jeong that night. These two sisters are always sniping at each other, but wow, that was just... wow.

And Mi-jeong. And Mr. Gu. The GU-MI couple. Amazing.

Her relationship with Mr. Gu is changing Mi-jeong in subtle ways. She is more confident at work, and more at ease with her gossipy co-workers. Also loved the revelation that her superior who is always bashing her work is actually not as good as she is. (But it looks like he orders her to go home early so that he can steal all her work and claim it as his own, or sabotage her work in some way. Ugh, this guy.)

In general, she demanded that he worship her and fill her up. And he's actually doing it. It's just really.... ah. It's lovely. This is creating full, living characters that you can relate to. This is great writing. Park Hae-yeong, you do not disappoint.

  19. I wasn't expecting much. Just seeing that clip with Song Won chatting with the grim reapers pretty much set the tone for me - VERY absurd and at the same time, VERY boring.

One thing that I'm sure everyone has noticed is how very food-obsessed the entire show has been since Season 1. People are always eating or talking about food. It's like a good 40% of all conversations:

    • Hye-ryeong throws out food that her mother-in-law made which apparently makes her the worst person ever.
    • Song Won is really into healthy food and I think her first conversations with Sa-hyeon were all about food.
    • Pi-yeong, Si-eun, and Dong-mi were constantly talking about food as well.
    • Of course, Dong-mi slowly killed her husband by feeding him carbs.
    • Both Pi-yeong and Si-eun won their way into their father-in-law's heart by feeding him organic gelato and sweet potatoes. (The way to a man's heart with through his stomach?)
    • Si-eun cooked lunch for Seo Ban.
    • Pi-yeong and Dong-mi cooked breakfast for Seo Father. That took up about 50% of that episode, I think - with him eating the food, and them talking about the food.
    • Those flour pancakes Seo Ban likes.
    • Dong-ma cooks for Pi-yeong and Jia, and that's all it takes for Jia to accept Dong-ma as her stepfather. (That, and the massive wealth.)
    • Professor Loser shared the lunch that his wife made with his future mistress Gabin.
    • Professor Loser made Gabin dumplings from scratch.
    • Dong-mi brought food to Gabin in order to become close to her.

Anyway, just want to point out that in the final episode, a Chaebol chairman and his son made noodles from scratch in the middle of the night to feed Pi-yeong, and that it took up about 1/2 the episode. (Aren't they rich and living in Seoul? They can get any kind of food delivered at any hour!) Other big parts of the episode were about Pi-yeong mixing some drink that the Seo brothers enjoyed, and Ami tried to make the same, but Yu-shin was not satisfied with it, because it wasn't the same as Pi-yeong's.

And of course the grim reapers sat around for a very long time salivating at all the food and drink... and it's all just a stupid waste of time, because the show failed to answer a bunch of questions that were raised.

Which is to say, stuff happened, but nothing happened.

And this show is really food-obsessed. It's like the show itself has some kind of eating disorder.

Will there be a Season 4? The story isn't finished, but the production company has given no indication that they will make a Season 4. So the story is that the writer deliberately failed to answer any questions in order to pressure the production company to agree to a 4th season. Basically she's trolling them... and the viewers.

Hmmm. I'm not mad. I guess I got to a point where I just don't care. I swore I wouldn't watch anymore after S1, but here I am, having watched all three seasons. And S2 was pretty fun. But this is exhausting and stupid.

But it was a lot more fun and interesting to watch this show because of this thread, so thanks everyone!

    --

    Some K-youtube theories:

    - Dong-ma (and maybe Seo Ban) is killed as punishment for their father's sin of cheating on his wife. Even though his sons are innocent, seeing his sons die before him will be a much bigger torment than simply dying. Karmic retribution.

    - Song Won will be reincarnated as Seo Ban and Si-eun's daughter. That wedding is a father escorting his daughter down the aisle, not those two getting married.

    (Ah, who even cares anymore.)

  20. The Good:

The way she demanded water from Mr. Gu by simply saying "water." And the look on his face afterwards!

Gi-jeong's sheer desperation to immediately jump Tae-hun's bones. The intense way she reacts when she heard about how he was bullied by his classmates after his mother died. She really is like a Jindo dog, as she says. She wants him bad and she wants him now!

How she felt bad about all the guys she dumped in the past after hearing Chang-hee criticize her for it.

The way that Hyang-gi was impressed after attending a Liberation Club meeting.

That conversation she had with Gu while he was making her ramyeon. That he should worship her and fill her up so she can be a strong enough person to be brave enough to confront jerks and not feel sorry.

    The Bad:

That phone conversation Mi-jeong had with Chan-hyeok (the jerk ex she loaned money to).

Her paying the loan using the savings, and the look of pity that the bank teller gave her.

  21. Okay, finale coming up.

Here's an article about Mun Seong-ho, who plays Seo Ban:

    https://www.chosun.com/national/weekend/2022/04/30/DZ64JLJ3CJBS3HPI3Z7DCNNDLI/

    Just a few bits:

    How he was cast:

He had been bouncing around trying to become an actor in plays and dramas for years. But his only drama role before this was "Mask" in 2015. It wasn't easy and he was about to give up on acting.

Then he suddenly got a call from an actress named Han Hye-suk who he was friends with. She told him to come wearing a suit. When he walked in, Phoebe said, "Seo Ban is walking towards us."

He met with Phoebe for 10 minutes. Phoebe asked him, "Why haven't you acted until now?" He replied, "Because I can't act." So she said, "You can learn to act." He replied, "Will you teach me?" And that was the last time he saw her.

The director told him that Phoebe said, "Just remove Mun Seong-ho's smiles, then he is Seo Ban."

    Other stuff:

He was emulating Tony Leung from "In the Mood for Love" by Wong Kar-wai. (Wow, that movie must have been so popular in Korea. It is referenced quite a lot.)

He admits that he is a very inexperienced actor, so he practiced a lot.

He grew up wealthy and was an only child. All the wardrobe on the show are his own, including the Rolex watch. Phoebe had two instructions for his role, which was that he had to look luxurious, and that he had to slick his hair back. He was an unknown actor, so there wasn't any designer who would sponsor him. And he felt that this was an important role for him, so he got suits fitted from Zegna and Dior. He thanks his mom for "sponsoring" him. She's really happy for his success.

He says that he is very similar to Seo Ban in a lot of ways, to the point where he wondered, "Does the writer knows me?" When he was younger, he was lonely on holidays because he had nowhere to go, and he shared that sadness with Seo Ban. But he adds that Seo Ban only loves one woman, and he is a bit naughtier in that respect.

The article writer notes that one thing different about Mun Seong-ho vs. Seo Ban is that he smiles/laughs a lot. Mun Seong-ho says that he had to a lot of retakes at first because he would smile when he would say a line, so they would have to reshoot. And his scripts always said that his lines should be "heartless, emotionless, stiff."
