  1. @Ma OO Thanks for clarifying the situation. I am glad he is becoming popular again. There are plenty of close contact in the later episodes. I have seen some awkward love scenes, BL and RJL's are all very natural. So I don't see why fans need to complain.

I actual admire RJL for marrying "young" and being honest with his fans. There are too many hidden marriages or actors delaying their marriage until they are in their late 30's. That just sets a unrealistic image for the entertainment industry. It is absolutely ridiculous how some fans expect their idol to be single forever.

Bailu is gorgeous and hilarious. 'Legend' was the first drama I saw of hers and have since been a fan.

So glad she got to star in 'One and Only', and 'Forever and Ever'. Hopefully she continues to get good quality productions.

  2. I just realised the director is different. One and only is directed by 'Gue Hu', whereas Shen Yang is the director for 'Forever and Ever'. No wonder the pacing for the drama is different.

@rabbit_casathanks for your explanation. It's a shame the Forever and Ever did not capture the subtilty scattered through the novel. I think its rather beautiful how Shiyi recognised ZSC and did what she could, to get to know him again in this life time.

Sounds sad actually, to live such life, of guilt, as if living and waiting until the end of time... for the sake of it...   depressing...

    Sounds like ZSC's step-mum...

Well, lucky for SY that she managed to meet ZSC's then.. :D

It does sound depressing! It gave me goose bumps when I watched the latest episode

    Spoiler

Shiyi explained to ZSC how animal respond weirdly to her. That is because she isn't suppose to be there. I take it as a subtle link, how Shiyi committed suicide in her past life, so she shouldn't reincarnate as human.

ZSC's step-mom is actually a very pitiful person. She loved one man, married another for her family. She did not love ZSC's father but tried her best to care for and protect ZSC, maybe not as a mother shld but in her own way. At the end though, her ending is very sad...

How rough is it, that she can't even avoid her love interest. ZSC's step-mother is a very strong woman.

I wouldn't rate her as a nurturing mother, but one can see why she turned out that way. Sadly her own children suffered in the long run too.

  3. This is definitely a high quality production. I don't think the drama would be as captivating, if someone were the main leads. I must say, Wang Xing Yue did a fantastic job as Liu Zi Xing. I literally want to hit his face whenever he was on the screen.

24 episodes may seem short for the Chinese drama. But I think it is just right. I can't imagine watching for another 10 episode through pure emotional torture!

I am loving ZSC character theme song -如故 . The lyric is so poetic. I literally cried when I read it the first time.

Does anyone use Discord or know of any Discord server that has fans chatting about the ELOD or the cast? Not sure how often people go on here and alot of the content seems to be blank from the previous posts. Just curious of any one uses Discord in general.

I don't know any discord server, but the ELOD forum is still active on Soompi. There is a wealth of information there.

does anyone else find Jiheng’s usage of her father’s name to steal the pimpon fruit just as horrible as misusing her father’s scale

Sigh. Jiheng’s happy ending is clearly a case of her father’s good karma. He did so many good deeds that it outweighs her bad deeds.

100% agree JH misused her father's scale. If JH's father found out what she did, I believe the Chinese saying "vomit blood" applies in this situation.

JH is such a tragic character. She started off as a good character, but her obsession and inability to manage emotions lead her to her own destruction.

JH have no idea how to love herself or others.

I really disliked the ending for JH in ELOD. It doesn't seem like she redeemed herself to warrant a happy ending.  XY does not deserve to have a mentally unstable partner.

@realistic2280a, his half brother, ZWC, mentioned that it was due to loyalty to their deceased father. He did what his mom wanted,

      Hide contents

married a girl of her choosing instead of his long-term gf

but in the end she just gave all control back to his older brother ZSC instead.

The stepmom is quite a complex character. They set her up to be the "evil stepmother," but as the drama has progressed it's evident that she is far from it. I feel very sorry for her.

On a side note about the half brother though,

      Hide contents

    did he really get divorced?

Maybe it's a little lost in translation for me as an international viewer, but I'm confused about what he told his ex and her family versus how he behaves with his wife and mom. It seems like he's being shady as heck and lying to his ex.

A small part of me feel sorry for ZWC. He is desperately looking for approval and a sense of belonging. I just disagree how he goes about it.

ZWC seems to believe doing whatever his mum wants will earn him approval.

ZSC is once again in the same position. All he wants is to do his job well and be with SY, but he has all these obstacles because of his position in the family. Luckily ZSC is again surrounded by people who loves him.

I was surprised that the step-mum gave him his father's assets not long after he registered his marriage... not so much confilct there... i thought it was going to be a long fight.. then after getting all the assets, he gave a lot to Shi Yi? Hmm.. then how is suppose to managed his business ? (This view is based on watching ep17, i know subbed episodes are up until 22, will get there soon:lol:)

    I wondered about that too!

I assume his lawyer friend and financial consultant in the background helping?

I am up to episode 22. It's amusing how his colleagues/assistants think ZSC is too poor to buy more food.

This is random but ZSC make some of the cutest facial expressions.

  7. @Judy Cho I have seen Candle in the Tomb: the Wrath of Time. My gosh V look hot in that drama. His character is so manly, yet so shy. The way he cried, it killed me. His acting have come along way since TMOPB.  Too bad, I haven't found any of his recent shows as captivating. I think he has been doing a lot of cameos in up and coming dramas.

I would love to watch D and V in a modern drama or any drama. I think it would be hard to top ELOD though. It such a beautiful story.

I don't think DH or FJ will live happily without each other. I think they are the only fictional couple that makes me believe in true and ever lasting love.

You should try the ELOD forum. Some of the kind Soompi users have translated the last DH + FJ short story the author wrote. The story is based on after FJ wakes up and a younger DH.

  8. @Judy Cho

V's eyes literally sparkles and goes tender when he sees FJ/D. Even D mentioned how tender V's eyes are.

I honestly felt sorry for FJ and DH in the first half of the drama. FJ tried so hard, yet DH didn't notice her at all.

It isn't DH's fault, but when he found out how much FJ did, he must have felt so guilty. In DH's defense, as soon as he literally made eye contact with FJ, he fell in love and did whatever possible to get her attention.

That is pretty much the same thing for three live times; as an mortal and DH's shadow. It is so ironic how FJ and DH had no fate,  but its so clear they only have love for each other. I wonder, if DH never met FJ, does that mean he will forever be alone?

Oh the kiss scenes! Still gives me butterflies when I watch it. I liked how all the kiss scenes (e.g. nose kisses, mouth, forehead etc) turned out. I know a lot of fans wanted more passion and intensity, but V got it right. DH may verbally trick and tease FJ, but he treats FJ like a treasure. All of DH's gestures are very tender. He doesn't force FJ to submit to him, he initiates and waits for FJ to respond.

  9. @Judy Cho Welcome to the forum!

You are right. V and D didn't do any promotion together. When Eternal Love of Dream was released, Covid-19 lockdown occurred. Even without the lockdowns, I don't think V and D would have done much promotion together. No thanks to certain extreme fans. China is tightening the entertainment industry, the government have stated they will not accept fan wars and unfold rumors online. It will be interesting to see if that makes any difference in terms of V and D working together in the future.

I watched D and Yang Yang latest drama. Visually they look absolutely amazing together. However, I still think D have better chemistry with V.  D and V interactions appear very natural, just like a couple. D is most relaxed with V.

I love V as Donghua. If the acting is not done right, Donghua's character may appear stoic and rather bothering. V infused life into Donghua, his micro expressions and pouting is so amusing to watch. V's Donghua is godly, appears untouchable and emotionless, yet when he is with FJ, Donghua becomes childlike and oh so shameless. D's FJ is just as amazing. I read somewhere that D in real life is not like FJ, she doesn't know how to be cute, but D hit the ball out of the park as FJ.

Watching ELOD ep 18….I am thinking the Bai women are clueless when it comes to love.

I think FJ trust her friends a lot. She only saw General Ye as a friend and she was so consumed with her own emotions, she probably didn't consider General Ye may have feelings for her.

Safety is most important. So glad it sounds like the decision is mutual. Hopefully in 2 years time, the world will be a much safer place and you can have the wedding of your dream.

Ah Ninky. It has been such a rough year for Melbourne. Hopefully all is well for you.

The positive is, there are more people getting vaccinated, this is at least a step towards the right direction.

    Ep 13/14

Nothing shakes Shiyi's single minded devotion to ZSC.She took his reluctance to be truthful about his family in her stride.Even went to the extent of keep her own family in the dark about the Zhou clan because the truth would have them oppose the relationship vehemently.

How would she fall for the trap of her husband having a childhood romantic pining for another woman?

Isn't she experiencing the clueless, boring, awkward courtship with ZSC first hand?

His step brother is truly a step behind when it comes to plotting skills.

ZSC's step brother is so manipulative and underhanded. At least ZSC's stepmother is upfront with her dislikes.

I am glad Shiyi have such superior EQ and did not fall for the step brother's scheming.

Please tell me ZSC is not that passive as the story goes on.. I am finding it hard to like ZSC in modern part despite me loving RJL and his acting.

I am sure RJL took this drama saga because of One & Only ...

Also, I still do not get his family tree. I mean... What ?!! Did the pervious generation like being Incest?  Anyone mind to make a chart ?

I am up to episode 15. ZSC gets better, Shiyi is a good love coach!

I see the modern ZSC as someone who had no burning desire. He only focused on his studies and work. His passiveness may steam from his lack of experience, but also, it is part of his careful nature. He tends to observe and over analyse before he makes his move. The One and Only ZSC is similar, but he was forced to mature at a young age and be a leader, so he may appear more proactive. However, the One and Only ZSC was just as awkward and passive at the beginning when it came to Shiyi.

Getting engaged to Shiyi is probably the only impulsive decision ZSC made. ZSC went with his gut instinct, he ignored his step-mother's wishes and family tradition to be with Shiyi. The beauty is, Shiyi understands and appreciates his gestures, without ZSC needing to explicitly state his thoughts.

I too don't get the family tree. I wouldn't be surprised if there is marriage within the family. They probably don't see if as a problem, if it is a marriage between distant relatives.

Back from vacation and just rant it because I didn't rant at all in One and Only..

First @tantaran808 dear:kiss_wink: hehe glad to see you finally..actually it's was my who was disappear HAHAHAHA....just take off for vacation

Second no worry, I have read all the book from One incarnation....I reread twice because it's was super short so I can super spoiler here ....hehe ...oh nope people will kill me if I did it lollll

I really love One and Only specially from the novel version, it's was only when she was pass away or something like that that we got some clue about who is ShiYi and who is ZSC....I did love a lot how they make with 24 episodes the complete story...

They add a lot detail with all her sister and brother disciple....

with only some flashback, the producer was able to recreate the whole 24 episodes with a lot laugh, cry and everything !!! So l was so surprise that they will start with the ancient time first and the modern time after. How they filming it's seem to be like they complete the whole modern time before and after that they start to filming the ancient time.

In the novel, it's a kind explicite '''' between ShiYi and ZSC. So imagine my reaction when I start to watch the One and Only and try to imagine ZSC like that o.o when I know how he is in modern.....oh.....it's that really ZSC O.O ohh

I was more pleasant with the drama version than the novel...seriously. Probably ZSC was suppose to be handsome in his past life but how he can be so ...''ordinary'' in the modern version in the novel. I mean, I prefer Ren Jiulun play both of ZSC than like the novel, they need to change two person different...completely.

I always also feel ShiYi love is more stronger than ZSC. I mean, ZSC love ShiYi but ShiYi love for me is true...I mean it's like a sticker that will never go out. So I feel he did completely got her in assurance...versu ...him. I dunno how I will explain...

The best ZSC for me was the one from the ancient...the modern from the novel was a bit....Oh well.....

    Back to the drama version.

ShiYi memory was never completely explain that was a resurrection, it's was make like a dream from the past. I still dunno if she know that was her reincarnation or not....

I'm on episode 6 and everything was really alike from the novel version. I was waiting for some familiar face from One and Only and yes we got some hehe ...

    I didn't read yet any post....so I need to go back to read it...I know ^^;;

edit: dw until episode 10 !! no time to watch :bawling:

    I understand what you mean.

Maybe not at the beginning, but later on in their relationship I believe ZSC loves SY just as much. SY have less responsibility in both lifetimes and is well loved by her family. Therefore, her actions are more carefree and loving in comparison to ZSC.

ZSC have a complex upbringing, all his actions will result in some type of negative consequences, not just for him but potentially for others around him. ZSC is not a strong communicator, instead he expresses his feelings through actions. So for him to defy his mother and to give SY whatever she wants, is his way of expressing his love for SY.

The beauty of their relationship is, that no matter what, they both quietly and steadily support each other.

I want to watch this because of BaiLu.. the 1st part of the drama didnt end well.  Ive read comments that  people would understand it better if they watched the 1st series before jumping to the modern part... but i dont really want to spend time watching a sad ending drama...sigh

If you watch season 1, it will help you understand and connect with the main characters. It wasn't easy to watch them suffer, but it makes is more believable why Shi Yi loves ZC at first sight and refuse to consider other males.

    ***Cries***

snippet from Back to Chaos in a Dream Final Chapter - Mo Yuan's broken soul:

"High God Mo Yuan was her aunt, Bai Qian’s master. Hence, ever since he awakened from 70,000 years of deep sleep after sealing Ghost Lord, Qin Cang, Feng Jiu had also seen this venerable God several times. At that time, the Venerable God she saw was calm, prudent and quietly secluded. Anyone looking at him would feel a sense of reverence for him from deep within their hearts. But the entire personality of the High God, found within Water Marsh at this time, was nevertheless substantially different even though his physical appearance was exactly the same 260,000 years in the future. If one were to say that High God Mo Yuan of the future was equivalent to a gentle piece of ancient jade, the Venerable God of this moment could be compared to an edge of a blade dyed in blood; a dispirited soul concealing his brilliance, standing aloof from worldly affairs. He could also be compared to an orchid steeped in blood, physically living in a deep valley outside the secular world with his heart trapped in endless hell."

Sigh. What a broken man. Although he recovered and sort of moved on later on in his life, I can't help but feel that deep inside he carried this pain for over 260,000 years. Hence the choice to live in relative seclusion, making the choice to teach and nurture his disciples, rather than answer to his true calling.

The poor guy disassociated big time. Who can blame him.

So lucky you got to watch all 6 episodes. I have paid for VIP but for some reason, I am unable to access the VIP episodes on iqiyi app.

I love how he is so observant and honest, he retained all of his wonderful traits from the past. Similarly Shi Yi calmly waits for his next move, just like in the past.

I absolutely adore Shi Yi's best buddy in the current life time. She is the best wing woman one can ask for.

It's tough. The whole school is in quarantine and that's thousands of people affected by this. We are not even sure if classes will even resume online at this stage.

This is very tough on children. And falling behind is a nasty after effect of the constant lockdown. To be honest, I am at the end of my patience with lockdown after lockdown, just so tired of it. It's like there is no light at the end of the tunnel. This thing seems to go on and on and on and on. Sigh.

Since late June we've had a 2 week lockdown, then almost 2 weeks out of lockdown, then back in lockdown for another 2 weeks, less than two weeks after that lockdown, we are again in lockdown. That's 3 lockdowns in a space of less than 2 months. I am really done with this. And now I am losing income, and my kids are losing a fruitful school year. I am just over it and can't see anything positive out of all of this anymore.

I need to live, but not like this. Every lockdown is getting harder and harder for me to cope. I am finding home schooling difficult. The realisation that I can't teach is hitting me really hard. Been rough is all I can say.

This seemingly never ending lockdown would drive anyone crazy.  Hopefully with more people vaccinating, it will help to make the situation manageable.
