Looking for the full version now

Arrrrghhhh they are soooooooo cute together!! The way they savor glances at each other and just had fun really made it so tempting to ship these two.

nahh I don't think he is trying to seduce her for that purpose. I think he is just doing those things because he cares about her lool unless I'm totally off which I'm hoping I'm not

It can be both. He rally cares about her, but he also wants to show off his ability to open up a crab (which needs some wit and muscle. Hahaha) and if he is lucky, she might be open up to loving him back (perhaps more than the way she seems to care about him before he was the crowned prince, i.e. visiting him in prison, following him around)

To think about it in LCY side, it was actually quite sad.

Think about it: He did what he did (danchi massacre) to pave the way for his revenge. If only he can undo that, quit the revenge thing and just elope with XF, things wont be this messy. But perhaps he wont be able to be live in peace with himself, albeit feeling tremendously happily lovey dovey with XF.

(And now that we cant undo the massacre, XF also wants to hurt him her own way -by letting him believe that she is in love with GXW as if GXW is someone else! Such a mess!)

Should he just jump into the River of Oblivion right after the first crown prince was killed? (* wishful thinking)

In the novel, there was a palace maid who got pregnant with LCY's child as well. Pretty sure it's going to take up some of the remaining 30 episodes. That being said, the reason why LCY had a one-night stand with the palace maid was sad as well. He was really drunk and he saw the palace maid, dressed in red and singing - she seemed to remind him of something he had lost but can't remember what. The thing he had lost being Xiao Feng. He brought her back to his palace because of that, thinking he had found what he had lost.

This is just devastating. If it made it to the drama, I think I will skip the episode altogether. Too much for me.

If the writer's aim is that, he could have just aimlessly draw her and wept, or something like that, rather than getting some palace maid in red pregnant. That is just...too much.

  4. I tried to recall the day they got married, and all I cal remember is that the wedding was only witnessed by Danchi Tribe and A Du. Pei Zhao was outside of Danchi border, preparing the attack. Gu Jian....I completely forgot where he was at that time.

Only few survivors know the name "Gu Xiao Wu": perhaps only Gu Jian, A Du and Pei Zhao know this name, and all of them seem to keep their lips sealed in front of XF and LCY. Both Gu Jian and A Du seem to want to start fresh, thinking that removing that name completely will make sure XF can have fresh start.

...As about Pei Zhao...Does he even know that XF and GXW are a couple, and that bringing it up is somewhat important? I dont think so. I even think that perhaps LCY initially wants plots his life as GXW as entirely fake, including any romantic relations. But then he is reunited with XF whom he met before.

He wanted to keep his life as GXW as fake life, but the time he refused to hand XF to Gu Jian after the massacre (meaning: he is no longer GXW, but LCY), we know that LCY has real feelings for XF, and wants to keep XF as his real wife.

But it is confusing for me....

Because... if he acts like LCY at that time, should he be claiming XF as future wife of the crowned prince (not as his wife)? It really doesnt compute to me.

I'm just getting started on this drama, and so far after a few episodes, I am encouraged to continue watching.  And, I'm reading the comments from those of you who are ahead of me.  I'm trying to avoid spoilers, though.  I was curious to see how the writers would allow the couple to stay in relationship after the princess learns of the prince's deceit.  They devised an interesting plot -- forgetfulness!  Looking forward to sharing my thoughts and reading more of yours.

Forgetfulness is indeed an interesting device on its own. Sometimes people think "If only we can just forget our problems and woes, and just move on, start fresh!"

One of the questions that the writer seem to want to answer is whether forgetting the past will make people choose their path differently (or will they choose the same path all over again)...will remembering will actually help people make better decision, despite the pain.

Whatever the ending is, I think I will still watch this drama for the sake of enjoying the story and the pictures. So far, the story is not boring, looping, or pointless, and it has managed to keep being interesting and enjoyable so far, especially with nice pictures and color scheme that they have in each scenes. So, yeah, I will keep on watching.

Btw, I think LCY looks better as Gu Xiao Wu. I think the way they styled the hair (with side swept bangs, and longer hair) works better for him.

Other than that, I think bold colors (red, royal blue) works better for Xiao Feng. Soft or pastel colors like peach, pastel yellow and soft white makes her look pale. But perhaps it is intentional: Life in the palace (with the rules. Conformity, muted, expected elegance) vs life in the wilderness (free, brave, expressive, bold).

Gu Jian, on the other hand, seem to almost always wear white. I do love white. It is the color of purity.

I think the way the creators of this drama chose to tell this story is making people think XF and LCY belong together....or at least they need a HE. When actually the author's whole purpose of telling this story was that 2 people may love each other but that doesn't mean they belong together......or will be happy together. For XF and LCY, staying together would have destroyed them.

I really don't see the need for an alternate ending just as a fanservice.

    Nicely put.

I heard this too few days ago, but the reaction is somewhat leaning towards sticking to the book, because LCY is such a j*rk for making XF gone in such way.

I really want a happy ending because these two looks good and happy together (without the politics), but..*sigh

by the way, am i the only one who cant stand the eng sub. so far Viki subs 1 ep per day T_T

Fair enough. @Merrie Lin you should try volunteering as subber, then! You would do great.

Many people rely on subs, so they cant do anything but accepting the translation as it is, but if you can change that and provide better translation, or share the missing nuances out of what was subbed, many non-speaker fans would appreciate that, I think.

Thank you all @Merrie Lin, @ElleSorand @marinated_lemon explaining who killed the first prince.

Later, does the ML comes to know that the Danchi tribe are not the killers of his first brother prince but the second brother prince?  Will he feel sorry for his princess?

Now this. I dont know yet. But as the eps progresses, I guess he should. If he knows that 2nd prince was the killer, he will have more reason to topple him off this dear crown prince title.

I paused watching because I feel like it torments me to think that I have no more eps to watch ^^'

As about if he will kill off the other princes...I honestly dont know. But he should, because I saw him in king's robe in an MV. It has already stated before in earlier episode that the eastern palace is a bloody palace where siblings kill each other for the throne.

Do you know where I can find the new unsubbed episodes? I can't find anything past episode 20.

It has just posted ep 17-20 on most sites, but unsubbed yet. They usually sub it one by one.

YT has parts of ep 21-25. I know it is not enough. But it enables us to hope that there are more eps to come perhaps after ep 20 is subbed. I wonder whats in store for ep 25-52. More tears, perhaps, as LCY gains more power?

The wait is killing me too. Let's persevere.

  11. Spoiler

    @Merrie Lin

Gu Xiao Wu / Li Cheng Yin 's mother was killed by the queen.

First crown prince was killed by second prince (Xuande) masking as Danchi Tribe.

Gu Jian is LCY cousin (making it plausible for him to aim at toppling down the queen too, who is killing his aunt, and perhaps wiping out his family). He is also XF 's master/teacher. He didnt kill anyone but he did open the gate for LCY to use XF to kill off Danchi tribe. He was from eastern palace. His family was wiped out (about who wiped out his family and why he has part in destroying Danchi tribe is something I fastforward as well. Huhuhu...sorryyyy) and he seek protection to western palace's concubine (the one XF dad cherished. She was from eastern palace. This happened when was little. Hence, he has known XF since forever. He grew to love her but notice the difference between them (teacher-student, eastern-western) so he keeps this for himself UNTIL XF has no surviving family to rely on and enters tigers cafe (eastern palace, with LCY around)

oh yes, I want to ask the revenge against the danchi tribe because the prince (first brother) LCY was killed by danchi tribe, really? the problem is I'm quite confused by the story that GXW told that night to the XF regarding the death of his mother ... whether his mother's death was also related to the tribe of danchi, because I knew his mother was poisoned by the empress of the Li dynasty which was the mother who raised him.

Besides that, I want to ask, the first prince who was killed by the Danchi tribe is whether the culprit is xiaofeng's cousin brother?  (because there is one scene at the beginning of the story, where Xiaofeng and Guxiaowu met XF's cousin brother and the person from Li's dynasty, I forgot his name ... hahaha ) and was the LI dynasty involved in the murder of the first prince?

Politics always add to the existing headache. But here we go...

    1. LCY mother was killed by eastern (Li Dynasty) palace politics (the queen), not Danchi or western region at all. To remove the queen and her supporters, he must gain enough power secretly, and if possible, become the king himself. But he is only 5th prince. He must topple the other princes to be the crown prince himself, and eventually become king.

    2. First crown prince was said to be killed by Danchi tribe when they are on theor way to propose to Western Region Ninth Princess XF, but that is not true. What really happened was the crown prince and his entourage were killed by Xuande (second prince). Xuande made a group of people dressed in Danchi tribe clothings (I fastforward this part, sorry, so I might missed something) to kill the crown prince's entourage. He either paid a group of danchi tribe, or told his own soldiers to dress like danchi people.

He gets two things by doing this:

    1. Removing crown prince and consequently made him crown prince by sequence (because he is 2nd prince afterall)

    2. It earns him the right to attack Danchi Tribe (who seem to have been a headache for Eastern Palace). It also earns him merits as the capable prince (to become the king)

*applaud here, and I am being sarcastic. Boy I am glad I live in the era where we dont need to kill anyone (or wipe out any tribe) to get recognition.

  13. What LCY did to Danchi tribe was horrible, but he did asked XF about it BEFORE he did what he did (that night when they slept under the tree?). He told her a story about a mother who was killed, and asked her if lying to friend in order to avenge his mother is forgivable....and silly XF said of course. This answer solidify his resolution to wipe out Danchi Tribe and conquer all western state, to earn him enough merit to climb and avenge his mother.

I still wonder why XF even stated that if she becomes that friend, she would have forgave that action (of lying...or actually, betraying. LCY didnt really specify the weigh of the lie though)

Anyway, her asnwer that night seems to become LCY permit to do anything to avenge his mother, and the start of this tragedy.

They resume airing and posted several eps today, I think. But sub comes one for each day.

For using Xiao Feng, betraying their vows and worse, massacring an entire tribe, Li Chengyin takes the crown as a most hated protagonist. Goodbye My Princess is based on a novel by Fei Wo Si Cun, an author arguably known for her heartbreaking romance stories. Did you get your tissues out yet?

    http://www.dramapanda.com/2019/02/chen-xingxu-breaks-hearts-as-hated-hero.html

Actually rather than tissues, it would be more appropriate to prepare a punching bag along as well.

I am pausing on ep.12, waiting for more episodes to get subbed. But I have a feeling that I would really need a punching bag soon, especially as XF enters the Eastern Palace, with amnesiac LCY, the harem, the inner palace politics, blast from the past, and so on.

  15. An epilogue is well-deserved! Thank you for translating, @ohLIME

I know it is a sad story overall, but I still celebrate the fact that LCY really does love XF and vice versa. The two factors that lead to this tragedy are LCY bagage to carry out revenge for his mom and LCY wanting to pursue (and keep) the throne (perhaps in order to bring suffering to those people who killed his mother).

LCY wont be as malice if they didnt kill his mother (which is something that he cant control anyway), or if he remains in the dark about how his mother died.

If only he remains a tea seller and forget this messy revenge, he would have been well off too.

  16. I know it sounds cruel, but if Hyena died by herself (not by murder or manslaughter by any of SKY Castle residents), things will be better for Kang Joon Sang family. All of them (minus Ye Bin) will benefit from the tragedy. But this is suspectedly murder, right? Anyhow, knowing Hyena, I wont be surprised if she really jumped by herself. She is very smart, very determined, very brave, manipulative, opportunistic, doesnt seem to be afraid to die, and doesnt have anything to loose.

  17. My favorite family is Jinjin's family, because it is apparent that they always love each other, be honest to one another and whatever happens in the office or in the neighboorhood, they always return to their family (despite everything). They dont abandon their family, or ignore them. They all work for the family - the daddy being a good minion in the office, the mommy pulls her hair off to get her son better grades without cheating AND safeguarding her hubby's career (and being open to him about it), and Suho tries pull himself together to study although it kills him. Haha. It is soooo funny when he tried to explain to his parents about a basic formula slower. Whenever these three together, suddenly the tone of the drama becomes comedy. Hahaha

I love Prof Cha as well.

I guess I understand why he ignored Seri completely now, because he still feels so hurt. He must have felt so miserable inside. I hope these two can get back together soon.

Applause for the twins! I tell you, Prof Cha is so lucky to have these two. They may not have perfect grades, but they are reliable, and they takes care of their daddy when he hit rock bottom. They even cooked (well...ehmm...provide food that is not ramen, -although it came straight from the can. Hahaha.) when their mother is sick. They didnt rebel when Prof Cha got back on his feet and resume his way of teaching to heal  -instead of making peace with Seri. I love the twins. I hope they also got their happiness.

I mean, we are on ep 14 already! We have only 2 more eps!

Just for the record, however pitiful Hyena is right now, or however bratty Ye Suh is, I am not siding with Hyena for the reason that she has always been this cocky kid, even before her mother died. I guess that came from her daddy's genes. Her dad is always cocky and act almighty in the hospital too, unless when he has something that he wants. But I guess it takes one Hyena to annoy one Ye Suh, because I cant imagine how the world would be if there is no Hyena and only Ye Suh.

I wonder, can they simply be friends??
