What I learned so far from reply series.. Despite I don't watch it all of them.. So please correct me if I'm wrong

R94, trash-NJ has 2 ost cover and CB-NJ has 1 ost cover.. In trash-NJ cover (Hi.Ni-I can't have you) the lyrics is sad, right? But in the end, NJ with trash..

What I want to say is, we still have hope.. In the end, DS feeling is the key..

Do you guys know how many OST releases are planned? If there are 10, then what @minibunny pointed out would be super telling. We know for sure the LAST ost cover is going to feature the entire cast. There's no way they'd end such a family-oriented and ensemble-cast show with a cover that's geared towards shipping. So if there are indeed only 10 OST covers, we know for sure there won't be another JH-DS cover.

... though wasn't OST part 3 Oh Hyuk's "little girl"?What was the cover? Did it feature JH/DS? The MV did though, right?

  2. Also, minus the part where she insulted JH/DS shippers, @packmule3 is so right about the PD purposefully indulging viewers' selective blindness. By now I sound like a broken record, because I keep predicting it and still it hasn't happened, but .. but .. I swear, it'll happen soon (lol plzz drama gods .. there are only 4 eps left):

Taek knows about DS's crushes on SW & JH.

When he made that call during ep. 6, that was my first thought actually. "Omoomomo! This dude is dangerous!!! He knows! He knows she was yearning for a first snow confession."

Think about it ... TK's eyes are always on DS. His career is all about making correct observations (and he hasn't failed in this regard so far, has he?). How can he not notice DS's *very obvious* crushes on SW & JH? The SCREEN hasn't shown it... but--

But we all know what happens when the screen leaves things out. ..lol.. Remember ep. 16? Choi Taek 6 dan is pretty good at hiding his feelings when he needs to.

And the more I entertain the this side of Taek: cunningly manipulative...  The more interesting other scenes  become.

Choi Taek 6 dan needs his own show, in which Seoul is rife with unsolved murders and he is a "consulting detective".

And the Ssangmun-dong tae-ti-seo (ajummas) are his assistants.

And Jung Bong is his Watson. Even though they have a rivalry going on in all aspects of life.

OWW..I've waved goodbye to literary criticism long time ago, and picked cold hard technical stuff...

Me too! Well ... kind of. These days all I do is sleuth over art and tell people if it's a forgery.

hated lit criticism in college. I'd always procrastinate on the papers ... and then stay up all night, living on coffee + pills + sacks of carrots to get that sh!t done.

This show though. It must have made me insane, given that I've started counting episodes and mapping out structure. >___> *cries*

  5. @nearsea @shooastrid

lolollolll noooooooo don't post that comment. They'll cook and eat me.

Team JH's accusation that Taek being end game would be "ridiculous", "out of nowhere", and a total "twist" got to me though. So I acted against my better judgement and posted something on the main thread. :astonished: I tried to be neutral, really I tried so hard. But the snark leaked out at the end. :bawling:

To me, this huge change of demeanour highlights another point that supports the DS/TK ship: they grow and they influence each other. Taek's calm and collected nature may have rubbed off on DS, and vice versa with DS's talkative and straightforward ways. More so in DS's case, in my opinion.

Imagine, if she married into the Kim's boisterous and "crazy" (yet charming) family.... Older DS could be almost like her old (younger) self..

    O. M. G. I find this so cute. Writer / drama gods, plz make it happen. *throws bananas at the sky*

  7. Also, before I go back to work, these goodies from the main thread are too good not to share:

A DC netizen made a sexy Taek compilation: http://gall.dcinside.com/board/view/?id=reply1988&no=407747&page=1&exception_mode=recommend

And @13infamyss wrote this intelligent, sharp-eyed analysis of episode structure and narrative flow. I'm fangirling / admiring her words so much. .. You guys know the drill-- please go over to the main thread and like her post to show our appreciation (if you haven't read / seen it yet).

    Spoiler

I don't know whether this was intentional or not, but I looked back on the previous episodes and counted how long Duk Seon's span of attention was for Sun Woo and Jung Hwan. I wanted to figure out where, when, and how we started to comment on the slow pace of the main love line. It was hard for me to share my thoughts during the last few weeks as I was confused on what to say and how to react on the past few episodes thrown at me. I needed to watch certain scenes over and over again to come to a realization that maybe I was underestimating the power and effect of this drama on me

Duk Seon's started treating Sun Woo differently in Episode 3 and her sweet treatment to him ended by Episode 6 (a total of 4 episodes). She started treating Jung Hwan differently by Episode 11 and ended her sweet treatment by Episode 14 (a total of 4 episodes again). By Episode 15, I've come to a conclusion she is over acting cute for Jung Hwan. She is not shoving herself to him - moreover, she doesn't even bat an eyelash at Jung Hwan anymore (the scene at the bus stop with her menacing look she gave not only to Sun Woo but Jung Hwan was note worthy - Ep 15). During the scene where Taek found out about Jung Hwan's feelings, I was on the edge of my seat thinking he might not only figure out about Jung Hwan's feelings, but also how his feelings were being reciprocated by Duk Seon. I've been on the edge waiting for the moment that she gives a glance at Jung Hwan and shares a secret smile with him (Just like how she kept stealing glances at Jung Hwan when she was making animated faces with his father - Ep 12). But Duk Seon never did once glance his way and I noticed how she was back being herself and having fun with her best friends (I believe this is when she is at her prettiest - when she is trying not too hard to get someone's attention and being just herself - like what No Eul said in Ep 12). Given how there's only four more episodes left, I think the rest of the episodes would focus on Duk Seon's another shift on the person of her new interest.

I've said this before, after the fallout of her feelings for Sun Woo - that the next time she takes an interest in someone, I hope she will be the one to discover it without anyone telling her that another guy likes her. I was so disappointed that her friends had once again whispered into her ear and acted upon by what they had told her to do. I was even more disappointed that she gave Jung Hwan a birthday present that she did not pick out herself. Jung Bong noted that Jung Hwan never liked that kind of colour (which was a big contrast in Episode 9 where Duk Seon pulled out a couple of clothes for Taek to bring to China and she raised them to her eye level testing which combination would look good on him). It only proved this gut feeling I've had for a while now that maybe there was a reason why I am not really seeing progress between Jung Hwan and Duk Seon. I mean they grow each episode as individuals, but together - I haven't really seen anything that will convince that they were meant to be together. Which was a complete opposite of Taek and Duk Seon. Each episode they not only grow individually, but there's something we discover and learn about them every time they are together. (Duk Seon doesn't like people see her cry, so the next time Taek caught her crying he let it go and just asked if she were okay, Taek stopped taking meds after Duk Seon suggested it, Duk Seon knows now how to knock on his door before entering... and the list goes on and I wish I could list the times Duk Seon and Jung Hwan were like this together as well - y'know just constant mutual show of caring for each other - not hidden/unknown/secretively/one sided)

I wish Dong Ryong had given his advise long before, so she wouldn't have been in so much pain and in constant look for that someone to love her. Episode 15 was all about Duk Seon's personal growth in my opinion. She wanted to get into university, but she wasn't really putting everything in to get that goal. She said she would study but she was doing it halfheartedly. She'd lose her attention and would do other things (get herself busy instead with whatever was in her hair - Ep 12). But when the teacher said getting into university was impossible for her and that meant disappointing her mom, she gave studying another push, tried harder, and even asked her new friend to help her understand the class. On the other hand, her best girlfriend who totally did not give a crap about studying was busy playing games with this other girl. We never saw her participate in any of what her friend was doing and just continued studying. At that moment, I thought she was finally being serious in achieving that goal. I also think that this mirrors in how she's going to act the next time she falls in love (by the end of Ep 14 after listening to Dong Ryong's advice). She`ll take precautionary actions and start learning it from scratch without anyone telling her who likes her and what she should to do in certain situations. And this is why I think Taek backing up from confessing his feelings was brilliant and just in tune at the pace that Duk Seon is heading. Everyone one of us wants either of the boys to do something - anything, but if Taek confesses his feelings to Duk Seon, she's going be all confused again and we will be back to square one when she will lose her true self and shove herself in to someone, who she thinks, likes her. Ep 15 showed us a side of Duk Seon who's still trying hard to get into university even though she was told it was impossible. And it once again mirrored Duk Seon who's going to give love another chance in the near future. You guys mentioned that Duk Seon has a mind of her own and she will choose whoever she wants to be with for the rest of her life, so this is why I thought it was great that Taek opted out to say his true feelings and Jung Hwan hasn't said anything either (whatever their reasons be). We want Duk Seon to seriously love someone now genuinely with no bias from both camps. I want her to go to that someone who she will see as her other half - someone, who just by looking at him gives her comfort and happiness in however mundane and little things are for them. I want her to. Really. So bad.

I think 4 episodes will be good enough to wrap things up and finally introduce us the husband, given the timeline they (the writer/PD) provided her to focus her interest on Sun Woo and Jung Hwan. Going over the scenes again from previous episodes made me realize maybe Duk Seon's romance isn't as slowpoke as it is. Each episode, in my opinion, has its own kind of growth for the main love line - whether it is only individual, couple, or both kind of growth. Now, it only depends on how each of us are going interpret these scenes being thrown at us.

@minibunny I really agree with your comment (which, btw, was so sensitively and thoughtfully written, that IMHO you don't need to hide it behind a spoiler tag :)). "Slow" and "weak" loveline ... WELL DUH YES, if you're determinedly ONLY watching JH-DS scenes, and turning a blind eye at the amazing developments in TK & DS's individual characters as well as their relationship arc. Though I want to preserve the peace as much as anyone, I have to say it drives me nuts that JH-DS shippers are still discrediting TK's character in the main thread (the details of which I don't even care to repeat ... ugh).

  8. @mangachickava Girl, thank you again for your awesome work with the suntaek playlist!! I have a super busy stretch coming up with work. IF you have time, do you want to start with episode 7 and see how far you can get?

Anyone else wanna help with the playlist? Please tag @mangachickava if interested!!!

Also, thank you @Phuong Tam Nguyen for translating those important scenes from viet to eng subs. Thank god we are an international ship. Times like these I wish I could read Chinese or Vietnamese, just so I can watch the episodes with subs a few days earlier. :phew:

Finally, I want to share an excerpt from a Pablo Neruda poem, which perfectly captures the recent suntaek heartbreak (side note: omg, I love how the PD edited the end scene to include closeups of DS looking sad-- though Taek is in Shanghai at the time, the scene felt incredibly intimate, as if they are of one heart :tears:):

I love you as the plant that never blooms
    but carries in itself the light of hidden flowers;
thanks to your love a certain solid fragrance,
risen from the earth, lives darkly in my body.

I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where.
    I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride;
so I love you because I know no other way

than this: where I do not exist, nor you,
so close that your hand on my chest is my hand,
so close that your eyes close as I fall asleep.

  9. @gerimisore OMG GIRL I could kiss you right now!!!!! so much talent 0___0. I love how versatile you are with your artistic styles. Holy ship, PBG & Hyeri actually look like their beautiful selves ...  amazing!

(Btw, I don't think Soompi hosts images. So you can't upload anything from your computer onto the site. I think you have to upload your image to a third party image hosting site, and then upload the image on Soompi with the URL.)

Also guys guys, while I'm overjoyed at the turn of events ... let's not get too carried away. :sweatingbullets: I still remember the days when this thread was 2-3 days old, and many of us were so sad at the thought that Taek will be chilbonged (f.b. = famous baseball to famous baduk) and that the writer won't give him justice. It sucks when you love your ship but can't be confident it won't sink. So let us give Team JH a break. They are understandably upset their cutie (and yes, we can admit this: JH is a great character too) have been somewhat neglected by the narrative these past episodes. Given we've been in the same boat (har har) back in episodes 10-12, let's remember our past sadness and be a bit more empathetic. I know the urge to gloat is strong (lol who doesn't love seeing arrogance taken down a peg or two? My initial reaction to team JH's bitterness was an urge to dance like DS ... or make a Taek face and ask "do you want to eat ramyun instead?"), but let us not forget the welcoming spirit of the Taektanic and hurt JH lurkers with too much snark.

(Sorry to be a bit of a party pooper!! It's just that the show hasn't ended. I'm more confident than ever that Taek is the likely husband-- but this is not a given. Over confidence saps away our karma points, so let's contain it a little.)

Much, much love to you all ~~ :heart:

  10. From the DB ep. 16 recap:

    Quote

The next morning, Deok-sun and Dong-ryong are both late for school and catch the bus together. He asks what she’s doing tomorrow and when she mentions maybe meeting up with Taek, he says cryptically that Taek has to win today. Deok-sun scowls and says that Taek doesn’t always have to win.

Dong-ryong tells her that Taek isn’t good at baduk because he’s smart—it’s because of his competitive streak. He says that there are two guys like this on their street, and Deok-sun readily names Jung-bong as the other. Dong-ryong says that one time Jung-bong was obsessed with Galaga and finally got to be the top scorer, but when he came back the next morning, someone had already beaten him and taken over first place. Jung-bong staked out the arcade until he discovered that it was Taek.

Dong-ryong says it was the day of a baduk match too, and Deok-sun calls him a crazy bastard. Dong-ryong agrees: “He’d rather die than be second place.” He declares that Taek will definitely win today, because now he has a goal.

DAMN IT CHOI TAEK. BLESS YOUR SOUL. :bawling:

  11. @mangachickava

Actually, let's post our findings for each episode on this thread first.

when we have ALL the episodes covered, let's redo the playlist so it'll play all the music chronologically.

If you're covering episode 1, I'm gonna start on episode 2.

(HAHAHA good excuse to rewatch all the DS-TK scenes).

    --

    EDIT:

Actually, I don't know if there are many DS-TK scenes in episode 1. @mangachickava, why don't you do episodes 1-2.

    I'll take episodes 3-4.

do you want to do it by episodes so that we dont overlap??

Hmm .. how should we go about this? I kinda went on BERSERK mode and just slapped on all the songs I can find at a moment's notice. It's REALLY disorganized. *sweat sweat sweat*

Going about it episode by episode would be the most logical / organized way about it ...

Anyone else want to join us for the playlist endeavor?

Maybe we can break things down by episodes, and "assign" people to find the music for certain episode blocks.

YOU GUYS KNOW WHAT THE BEST PART ABOUT LOVING TAEK IS? JUST LOVING TAEK. I can talk about him for hooouurrs outside of the love triangle.

I loveeee the subtle things, the gradual build-up. As we've established, Taek grows/gets revealed little by little, and these episodes totally catered to that in the way that the neighbors emphasize (via dialogue) that Taek hates favors--but he'll request one from the hospital director just for JH's dad. They emphasize that Taek gets his competitive streak from his father and how he, the super-busy-and-above-the-mundane-things Great Choi Taek 6-dan Baduk Master Sir spends time in the arcade just to beat JB's high score-- but then he swalLOWS HIS LOVE FOR HIS BEST FRIEND. (I get it. JH did it too, but just. the emphasis. on Taek's. personality. It's important.)

Taek is so human that I honestly could have seen him going either way. I wouldn't have been surprised if he were to unleash his competitive side, but I wouldn't have been surprised if he backed down either. This. Is. So. Human! It's okay to have multiple fates! And you know what? He kind of did a little bit of both. He originally laid it down: he's going to confess to DS after his next competition. But then he decides against it. *sounds of my heart breaking and ugly sobs* And I love him more for it.

YES YES YES @liteulkwin YOUR POST IS GOLDEN. Thank you for literally enhancing my enjoyment of this show.

You are so right about Taek doing a bit of both. I love that he didn't give up on his confession easily, and did not arrive at the final decision immediately. Since episode 6, we've witnessed his feelings for DS grow from crush to equal importance as Dad & baduk to perhaps more important than life itself. Beyond his sense of determination and competitiveness, there's an instinctual love for DS above all. Even after finding out Jung Hwan likes her, Taek didn't hesitate to follow DS out when she wasn't feeling well. I didn't interpret that scene as his competitive urge showing; but rather the most important thing at that moment is DS-- she isn't feeling well so he should offer her medicine, everything else be damned.

Also, Taek's noble idiocy isn't simply grounded in "bro code" or "bros before hos". His glance at their childhood photo is the most revealing clue. What's at stake here isn't merely JH's feelings, but the entire squad dynamic. If he and JH were at odds with each other, it'd implicate DR and SW in the conflict too, since they won't be able to pick a side. DS too. It would be brutal for her to lose JH just to date TK, and vice versa. So in this case it really is a choice between preserving squad!love or dating DS. And I think Taek knew that it would be a selfish crime to rob DS of her place in the squad, or destroy her ability to bask in squad!love of days old.

This perfectly layered build up, plus the awesome direction, pretty much left me sobbing like a baby when I got to the end of the episode. My god did I cry.

I hold myself not to care about the husband hunting and focus on the story and since I had this crazy idea about the time 4:33 theory, I have my own beliefs of the hubby and so far so good hehe

      Hide contents

do you remember the time in TK's father shop?? 4:33.. My delusional/crazy theory is

There are 4 guys in R88, 3 guys will involve in husband hunting and the third guy that they're introduced is the husband (in 1st episode)..

Like I said, I'm crazy hehe.. No matter what people said, I am now sure that TK is the husband.. If he's not, I'm still happy because his character is so strong and his relationship with DS is deeper than other characters

OMG @minibunny yours is the most intelligent and plausible explanation I've read so far for all those 4:33 clocks. Is Taek really the third guy to be introduced in the 1st episode? Alternatively, we can consider him to be the third person to come forth as a husband candidate (1. SW 2. JH 3. TK).

*clap clap* Good job! I mean, DC korean netizens were all over those 4:33 clocks. They even had a "Taek" day during which fans flooded the forum with Taek-related posts exactly at 4:33 PM local time. But the only explanations they came up with was 4-3-3 soccer formation. LOL.

I shall be REALLY delulu and do a crazy explanation:

    Spoiler

@hafunohane mentioned John Cage's 4:33 in a post. I'm actually very familiar with John Cage, being a cellist with conservatory training. Back in the day my orchestra friends all made fun of 4:33. You know why? Because it's (basically) silent. The score calls for 4:33 minutes of SILENCE (the "performer" literally does not play his or her instrument, lol). And you know who else gets scenes with silence? CHOI TAEK. <---- lulz, told you it was delulu...:vicx::w00t:
