  1. I remember reading that the future Queen was brought in for marriage when she was 15 yrs old, the King was 21 yrs old. Reading all the historical stuff hasn't helped because it's quite sad to discover how lonely and pitiful they were for not being free to lead their own lives. And the King died due to illness [ it is mentioned that it might have something to do with the Andong Kim Clan].

This excerpt is from wikipedia - "For the Andong Kims, Cheoljong was an excellent choice. His illiteracy made him manipulable and vulnerable to their control. Proof of this was that even though Cheoljong ruled the country for 13 years, until his very last days he had not yet learned how to move with dignity or how to wear royal clothes, so that in even the most luxurious of robes he still looked like a fisherman."

The way I interpreted it was more “Do not let your guilt get in the way.”

Remember, Cheoljong is a decent and compassionate person and killing another human being must be traumatic for him. It’d definitely weigh on his conscience! And she wasn’t just any random person. Even if he didn’t love her then, she was still his wife bounded by laws and by gods.

This is my interpretation because they didn’t decide until later to shoot a spin-off story, so that’s why I think they weren’t talking about romantic feelings.

사사로운 (감)정 can be translated with / personal feelings/ indeed, but it leads to misunderstanding the situation; - /emotions/ would have been a better choice - I remember watching this scene and wondering if he had been in love with her or had feelings for her - so I've had it stuck in my mind for a while as you can see...

  3. So this is a scene from the 2nd ep

Prince Yeongpyeong is the one saying this to the King - they are afraid that the Queen heard them talking about their plans and want to silence her, and it seems that the King is hesitating -  I didn't get this line from the 1st time I watched the ep - so, is there a connection to the fact that he had feelings for her and tried to suppress them for the reason that she was part of the Andong Kim Clan?

    What do you think?

thank you @shimshimae, so kind of you!

    same to you!:star:

  4. thank you, @cenching, @aisling - I don't know if that helps - it's like rubbing salt into a wound - I don't need to walk backwards [ although it sharpens the senses and mental clarity  :star:] I need more of them from now on, not from the past... did they have more interaction back then? I m afraid not... so what's the point then...oh, well!

it has crossed my mind - that in order to save Cheoljeong - she/he might sacrifice herself when needed - and at that very moment Bong Hwan would wake up. Oh, it doesn't help to think that way ...but both heroines of the C versions that I mentioned before died... I'm so stressed out and it's only Monday...:worried::unamused:

  5. @Phoenix Klaw where did you read that? The king died at the age of 32 and he was survived by his wife, the queen. They did have a baby, a girl, but she died around 6 months if I m not wrong. Hence no heirs for the king... I'm ok with anything that will differ, but I very much doubt it cuz I read some historical sources and checked some other Korean posts.

Now you get why I am so heartbroken...:crymeme:

  6. I have been growing anxious from ep to ep  - I haven't seen the Scarlet Heart - and I don't think I will - however I saw the Chinese version of Mr Queen and the one of Scarlet Heart - and I must say the ending wasn't great for both dramas;

the last ep of Mr Queen - left me worried - at some point she/he thinks that she/he might change history - that is not going to happen - I mean the Japanese invasion and the latter stuff --- what saddens me the most is the history itself - they did stay together, help each other, but they didn't have children  - I was so upset on reading that :sleepy::persevere:

I couldn't find any portrait of the queen.

Finally if the ending in the past will disappoint me, I hope that in the present I will get to see the descendants of these two enjoying the life that their ancestors didn't get to live.

I don't know why I am so pessimistic today, maybe because it's going to end soon...I don't want an open ending -  I need closure, it's not that much to ask for.

  7. well - if the drama follows closely the C- version - she gets pregnant after that night, and perhaps that's the reason  why she gets away from not being poisoned; my guess is - they will find out that the queen is pregnant because she will throw up the tea. It's a wild one, but it's the only thing the makes sense right now [ for me]...

Nice to meet you all!!! only 71 pages?

  8. here I'm again - after reading many posts on twitter, insta, internet - gosh! I miss them...this whip smart hybrid of thriller, complex, tense, gem kind of drama anchored by stand-out performances from LJK( hands down) and MCW ( wonderful, delicate, beautiful, elegant actress) is going to stay with me for so looong...I usually watch Korean dramas, but it takes 30 min to check them on daily basis, well...FOE pierced my heart - I watched it religiously from the very beginning to the very end... Now my Wed and Th's evenings without my fav drama routine will feel a bit empty...

    Me next Wednesday :weary:

  10. So ... I do think the real Hee Seong is the killer -  he was the one in charge of getting rid of the victims - some of them were kidnapped for their organs or some other horror stuff and they were not supposed to get alive after what would had happened to them. On the other hand Do Min Seok was just making some money or did have some weird "hobby" like Michelangelo [ just kidding].

He killed Do Min Seok and made it look that he was the killer, he also killed that village man, and now he is trying his luck manipulating his parents.

Maybe detective Choi will help them; and the housemaid - she might be the relative of one of the victims or the village man's or she might be the helper of that mafioso.

    GOOD NIGHT!!! TAKE CARE!!!

  11. Here I am again after crying a river ... so I usually use a headset when watching movies, so only listening to these two [ without watching] makes me heart aching so bad   - the narrative controls the emotional engagement so well  that one who doesn't understand Korean will be brought to tears or to the edge of his/her seat.

Great episode - so we have our accomplice, but 5 episodes means that a lot of stuff is going to happen and I don't have any idea of how things will work out... I can come up with some scenarios but - gosh - this last ep is so heavy - and we want a happy ending, bad guys to be punished and a couple in real life [hhehheehhe].
