Hyun Bin, Yoona, Yoo Hae-jin to reunite for ‘Confidential Assignment 2’, Daniel Henney, Jin Seon-kyu to join

2017 hit movie Confidential Assignment‘s sequel has confirmed the reunion of the original cast!

On January 22, it was announced that Hyun Bin, Yoo Hae-jin, and Yoona are set to reprise their roles in Confidential Assignment 2: International. Two new cast members were also reported to have joined the cast of the film—Daniel Henney and Jin Seon-kyu.

Confidential Assignment is an action thriller that depicts two detectives—one a North Korean and the other a South Korean—partnering to chase international crime organizations. Hyun Bin and Yoo Hae-jin took the lead roles in the original, and their bromance was enjoyed by all. When Confidential Assignment was released in 2017, it caused a sensation at the Korean box office, with its viewership exceeding 7 million. It became one of the highest-grossing movies of the year.

In the sequel, Hyun Bin will reprise his role as the gruff North Korean detective Im Cheol-ryung who is dispatched to South Korea for another mission. He will chase another ruthless crime organization along with his South Korean partner Kang Jin-tae and experience living in South Korea again. This time, his character is expected to show a more relaxed charm than in the last film. Hyun Bin has been enjoying immense domestic and international popularity for his portrayal of North Korean soldier in the drama Crash Landing on You (2019–2020). He was recently revealed to be dating his co-star from the drama, Son Ye-jin.

Yoo Hae-jin will return as the hilarious South Korean detective Kang Jin-tae. After a mistake lands Jin-tae in the cybersecurity investigation team, he volunteers to cooperate with North Korea again for another investigation and reunite with his old partner Im Cheol-ryung. Yoo is known for his solid acting skills and is widely regarded as one of the best actors in South Korea. His impressive filmography includes hits like The Pirates (2014), Veteran (2015), A Taxi Driver (2017), and 1987: When the Day Comes (2017).

Girls’ Generation member Yoona will reprise her role as Kang Jin-tae’s sister-in-law Park Min-young. In the prequel, her character was a minor one and had a huge crush on Hyun Bin’s character. This time, her role is expected to be meatier and showcase her lively charms as a self-proclaimed beauty YouTuber who is considered unemployed by her older sister. Yoona has been enjoying success in the film industry after her disaster movie Exit (2019) became one of the highest-grossing movies of the year. This year, she is currently starring in the JTBC office drama Hush opposite veteran actor Hwang Jung-min.

Daniel Henney, who has been busy with Hollywood projects, will take on the role of Jack, an American FBI agent chasing the North Korean crime organization that has wreaked havoc across the world. He will team up with Hyun Bin and Yoo Hae-jin and to inject a fresh, new flavor to the bromance. Henney is an American actor of Korean descent and best known for starring in the popular American police procedural series Criminal Minds (2005–2020) and the 2009 film X-Men Origins: Wolverine. He has also appeared in Korean dramas My Lovely Sam Soon (2004) and Spring Waltz (2006). He has joined the cast of Amazon Video’s upcoming epic fantasy drama The Wheel of Time.

Finally, Jin Seon-kyu will take on the role of a dangerous villain in the film. He will play Jang Myung-joon, leader of the North Korean organization that the three detectives are chasing. Jin is famous for his roles in action films like The Outlaws (2017), for which he won Best Supporting Actor at the 38th Blue Dragon Film Awards, and Extreme Job (2019).

Confidential Assignment 2: International will be directed by Lee Seok-hoon, who is known for films like The Pirates (2014) and The Himalayas (2015). It is set to begin filming in February.

  2. I’m super excited about Confidential Assignment sequel and I’m even more stoked that Daniel Henney will be  joining the cast. What a reunion it’ll be for the two since My Name Is Kim Sam Soon. I can’t wait to see their interaction with each other.

Also, congrats to Hyun Bin for winning the Daesang award. I am so happy for him. He worked so hard and he deserved it. I love his speech and he even thanked SYJ. Both of them’s administration for one another is just too cute.

  3. I didn’t think that Kyung Joon was that close with LEO but now I see that he is close with her since he’s been dating Rin Yi for 10 years so he’s been around for that long to know what’s going on in LEO’s life. I’m glad both came through and stood up for LEO and KJ punching the cheating ex fiancé in the face. He deserves it.

Now, we got to understand why LEO left Seoul for 2-3 months. She was hurt badly. Cheating really hurts and especially when she witnessed it.

I’m glad PJW is starting to put the pieces together at the end when he’s connecting LEO to KJ and RY. The answers was right in front of him and he didn’t know it. But I still feel bad for PJW again and again. He’s so clueless to everything and still doesn’t understand what’s going on. All these things are leading him to misunderstanding LEO.

I have a feeling PJW and LEO will meet again through his work. It’s starting to get draggy with so many misunderstandings from PJW’s POV while LEO’s past is starting to reveal more and more but PJW still needs answers so hopefully they can talk and let go of what happened and move on and rebuild their relationship again. There’s only 6 or 7 more episodes left so I think it’s about time the drama pick up the paste a bit.

I like this episode though. It was a bit random yet funny. I’m trying to feel the pain of what LEO is going through but this episode was just too random and funny that I ended up laughing.

  4. @agenth, I think that a lot of people don’t find this drama enjoyable and feel that this drama is boring because the two main leads are portraying realistic characters that real people can relate to. I, myself relate to PJW’s character because I experienced something a bit similar not exactly like PJW but a bit similar. So I feel his pain. I think that other people may prefer more fantasy, dream like kind of characters where everything is perfect and romantic. The concept of this drama and the interview scenes are not people’s cup of tea so they easily drop it but they’re missing the whole message of this drama.
I like this drama because you get to see different sides of how these couples are portraying.

Also, rather than playing high ambitious characters or CEO’s, etc. we get to see them working ordinary jobs. We also get to see them show their flaws which I like because no one is perfect.

Anyways, I’m excited about the next episode. Looks like we’ll get to see a bit more of LEO’s back story.

  5. @Mizzy really? 17 episodes? That’s awesome. It’s good that it’s getting extended because I feel like the main story still needs more development since now they the truth is revealed about YSA’s true identity. It’s getting better and better.

Ep 8 was emotional and ep 9 was just so shocking yet it did left me teary eyed in some scenes. PJW’s anger and hurt towards LEO after finding out her true identity. He has the right to be angry after what he has gone through. He spent one year searching for her. Even contacting Rara and Bin multiple times about YSA’s whereabouts. He’s hurt, heart broken, lost, and more confused as he’s not sure who the woman he loves really is. I’m glad he threw the ring in the water in front of her because she did made him feel foolish. He has hold on to that ring for so long believing that everything was real only to be all lies. Yes, he was angry at the moment and didn’t realize his actions but I think it was what LEO needed to see... needed to see what she has put him through.

As for LEO, I’m really glad it was her that went to retrieve the ring in the water and found the ring rather than PJW. Whatever the reasons it may be behind her break up PJW, I am glad that it was her instead because that scene really showed that she did love him and that she did valued his love for her. I hope that maybe she can redeem herself and be the one chasing after him since he chased after her back in Yangyang. I hope that she can reintroduce herself again to PJW as LEO and not as YSA and regain his trust again.

The ending credit when it showed PJW looking for his ring also proved that he still loves her after knowing her true identity. That scene tells me that maybe he’s willing to give her a chance not as YSA but as LEO. He was so cute in this scene though.

On another note, the scene at the police station when PJW found out about YSA’s true identity as LEO and when he was releasing his frustration and anger at her.. I tried to feel his pain and frustration and be mad with him too but I couldn’t help it but laugh at the same time when Oh Dong Shik played by Choi Min Ho had to ruined the mood and atmosphere by asking, “What? Is she a man? Are you a man?” I couldn’t take that scene seriously. :joy:

Hello! Have been lurking since the show started and finally decided to post something here :)

Started watching this drama because of Ji Chang Wook after Google reintroduced me to him. The last time I watched him in something was 10 years ago in "Smile Donghae", so imagine my surprise when I saw how much he's grown since haha, almost didn't recognise him. Although romance is not really my preferred genre, I'm really enjoying it so far! It has a great balance between serious and funny, the characters are compelling on their own as well as in their interactions with each other, and I love the editing in this show (something I really enjoyed in "It's Okay to Not be Okay" as well).

I share the sentiments of everyone who loves Park Jae Won and feel for him - Ji Chang Wook has done such a great job expressing the rollercoaster of emotions and loneliness that Jae Won experiences. (Also, he's so handsome and his smile... sigh.) Anyway, I also see some people disliking Lee Eun Oh, and saying that her reasons for the breakup were "weak", so I thought I'll share my two cents on that!

First of all, I definitely don't agree with the way she lied to him about her identity, and the way she broke up with him. Honesty is one of the building blocks of a relationship. Also, re: the topic from the latest episode, I believe that a breakup should be mutual (barring exceptions like abuse situations). I can understand why Jae Won took it so hard, especially when he's such a passionate man. This characteristic can be seen in all he does - his work (wanting to constantly redesign the house), his hobbies (learning to make surfboards and collecting cameras), and his love life. Because of this, Eun Oh's breaking contact with the only explanation being that the relationship was not serious was such a hard blow. It was not so much her breaking her promise to meet again, but the insinuation that she saw their time together as a joke while he put all his heart into it.

However, we also know that Eun Oh does not think of it as a joke. She has expressed grief over the loss of the relationship, as well as regret for the hurt she has caused Jae Won. She also clearly cares for him, like when she offered to pay for the illegal parking fine and last episode's bar scene. It may seem weird then, that she decided to end the relationship when she could have simply told him the truth about her identity. In this regard though, I can understand. Her primary reason for the breakup, as I see it, was fear - fear of being looked at differently. She doesn't want Jae Won to know her "true" self because she doesn't want him to think of her as less carefree and fun and dislike her for that. She also doesn't want her friends to know that Seon A exists, because she doesn't want to disturb the sense of familiarity and predictability of their friendship, especially when they've known her since young. Growing up together is a double-edged sword. On one hand, she has friends who she knows she can always count on. On the other hand, they spend so much time together that they will inevitably expect her to act in a certain way, and any deviation would be noticed and called to attention. In that sense, I relate. Even small things like a change in hairstyle or fashion choice makes me self-conscious, let alone a personality and attitude towards life. Furthermore, Jae Won being a mutual friend could also change the dynamic of their friendship group should they get together. As such, I may not condone her actions but I definitely feel for her.

All in all, I'm loving this show, and excited to watch Jae Won and Eun Oh rebuilt their relationship now that her real identity will be disclosed. :)

I personally don’t hate her character but I find her character to be more complicated and mysterious. Like she’s still hiding a lot from her friends. I’m more intrigue with her real self. Like who is Lee Eun Oh? Who is she really? We got to see her as Yoon Seon Ah through these flashback scenes but I feel like the the writer haven’t dwell on LEO’s character yet. In ep 3 she mentioned that she ended up in Yangyang because she hated herself. So what was LEO like before? What made her hated herself to escape Seoul and ended up in Yangyang? There’s so many questions.  So I hope the writer gives us a little bit more explanation on that and not leave it out. Looks like PJW finally meets LEO and not YSA in ep 9 preview, so I hope we will get to know more about who LEO is. Even though PJW was hurt from her actions, I hope that he can come to understand why she did what she did. I also hope they can rebuild their relationship.

Her first reason was understandable but I didn’t like her second reason too much. Her second reason was because of her friends. They knew who PJW was and because she was afraid they’ll reveal her true self to PJW. When she said that, I’m questioning myself.. “ok, so if they didn’t know who PJW was or if Kyung Joon was not PJW’s cousin, then she’ll continue to deceive him?” Because if that was the case, then how long was she going to continue to deceive him? Because that would made her way more cruel and PJW would be even more hurt. That’s why I feel like her second reason was unreasonable and more like an excuse. I wanted more.. I wasn’t satisfied with her 2nd reason. I’d rather choose the typical social status differences between LEO and PJW’s lifestyle (poor girl, rich guy or rich girl, poor guy which is typical in Kdramas storylines). At least I’ll understand that.. that both come from different status background and she’s afraid that if he knows her true status, he’ll leave her. I hope the writer gives more better reason behind the break up. I just really want to know her motive.. I know she wanted to live as YSA because she didn’t get to live that kind of life.. I just want to know more about LEO that’s all.. just want to dive deeper into her life and understand her more.

  7. Ep 8 was just a heart breaking episode. Both JCW and KJW perfect such an emotional scene yet still building that chemistry between their two characters. I’m feeling more and more bad and sad for PJW. He’s frustrated, angry, sad, etc. but no one understands him. Not even Kyung Joon. Instead they laugh at him.

It’s true of what PJW said. Those two months was real and true for him and if LEO didn’t feel anything from the beginning, she shouldn’t have done what she did back in Yangyang. Her actions lead him on and made him believed that she did feel it too and that she did love him back. He loved her so much that he’s suffering because in his heart he believed that her love was real too so he can’t accept the break up because he doesn’t understand what happened or why she ended things when it was going so well. He’s now starting to be delusional and can’t accept reality. Poor PJW, I hope he doesn’t suffer anymore and heal and just move on. He deserves more.

On the other hand, I’m questioning myself, if LEO still wants to forget him and let go and move on, why is she suffering too? If she truly doesn’t want to be in a relationship with PJW, she shouldn’t be sad or heartbroken right? In this episode, it shows that she does somewhat care for him as she’s finally listening to him expressing his feelings and seeing him in that state left her heart broken in some kind of way because she was the one that caused him to be in that state. So seeing her crying shows that she does at least have some feelings. So I’m wondering why she just doesn’t come clean to end this suffering for the both of them. I mean I feel like she’s suffering for no reasons. She’s making things harder for herself. Like girl, what do you want? Just come clean so that PJW understands the reason behind the break up because the problem started from her. Hopefully her getting arrested will knock some sense into her.

This whole suffering from both side is heartbreaking yet frustrating at the same time. He’s confuse and doesn’t understand why. He wants closure so he can move on and let go. But he can’t move on yet because he’s still holding on until he knows the truth.  While she’s suffering but doesn’t want to come clean yet shows she cares/loves him but doesn’t want to be in a relationship with him.... omg... my blood is starting to boil.

  8. I love today’s episode. Those two months they spent together was meaningful and special for both of them at least to PJW. Though, I still feel so sad and so bad for him because he’s still clueless about what she did. The scene of him at the police station was heartbreaking.

I wish LEO’s two reasons was more. I was looking for more reasons behind her two reasons. The two reasons she mentioned feel too weak like it doesn’t really back up her actions. This episode made me feel angry towards her though. If she’s so quick to throw away the surf board and the ring that she supposedly threw away.. why is she still holding on to the memories? Like the pictures and cameras? I feel like her feelings are confused. Like what does she want out from this? If she truly does love and care for him then come clean instead of running away but if she just wants to leave it in the past, then move on. Otherwise, it’ll just hurt her especially PJW even more.

On a happy note, I enjoyed the friendship between Rin Yi, Kang Geon, and Eun Oh. The three of them are funny when they’re together and the dance that they were doing in the kitchen. I love KG’s reasons why he doesn’t find the two of them attractive. Lol

Also, on another good note. I love the chemistry between JCW and KJW. They’re on another level. Just pure love. One thing for sure for JCW, stick with the Ji’s and they’ll definitely bring the chemistry to the screen.
Ha Ji Won, Nam Ji Hyun, Kim Ji Won.

AND in the interview for Jaewon and Sunyoung, there's similar background ... a park?? Maybe they will also encounter each other?

I wouldn’t be surprised if PJW and Sun Young know each other. I mean there’s gotta be a connection somehow since it was revealed that Eun Oh and Kang Geon lives together with Rin Yi. Which explains why I saw a picture of the three of them together on Instagram. They’re best friends.

I still feel a bit bad for PJW. I totally understand his anger and frustration. He’s still left with confusion to why LEO suddenly ghosted him and from the message that she left him, he didn’t know why she did that after their time together so he didn’t understand if he did something wrong or not.

Ep. 4 shows that LEO does have feelings for him. Honestly, it did made me teary eyed but at the same time it’s like why did she do it? She seems to be hurt and sad too. She misses him. I’m sure the 2nd reason is probably the main reason why she stopped contacting him.

  10. If anyone have a better resource or search skills, I’m looking for these two songs from the drama.. or hopefully it’ll be part of the OST. I’m still trying to search for the song that was played when they had their one night stand. It’s in English and these bands have been around for so long so you’ll think it’ll be easy to find it but nope.

    BeetleJuice- Kiss Me Kiss Me

    Yurisangja- What Do You Think

I love ep 4. It was full of sweetness yet I feel sad at the same time because LEO/YSA is not fully in it. I can start to see both side of their feelings though. PJW is so full of love towards LEO/YSA while she’s holding back because it’s not the real her but she has her reasons and I’m curious to what the 2nd reason is. Their relationship I’m taking it as “What happens in Yangyang, stays in Yangyang.”

Anyways, the camera was stolen from PJW. I don’t know if LEO/YSA did it intentionally or by accident but maybe in a way.. it was probably a good thing she got it. Even though she’s trying to forget,  I’m sure she looks at the pictures from time to time remembering their days together.

I hope we get to see more of the third couple. I like Sun Young’s character. Very fierce/tough. Kang Geon seems like a funny guy.

  11. I liked that they showed Lee Eun Oh’s back story. Why she ended up in Yangyang. Yes, she hated her life in Seoul and needed to escape to freely do things she wanted to do that she couldn’t do. I’m thinking maybe she needed to escape the reality and live freely under a false identity.. maybe to just spend quality time alone for herself, maybe to re-energize herself again before returning to reality, maybe she wasn’t expecting much from her trip... and.. then bam.. Park Jae Won just happened to appear and maybe it just changes her plans. It seemed like she wasn’t looking for anything serious with him and was only just a fling but he was already smitten with her from the start. He felt things while she played it cool. From their one night stand she seems like she wanted to leave it as that and no strings attached but the ending showed that she does cared for him and does shows some feelings there.. but it seems like she might hurt him again.

Good report on Lovestruck In The City by The Korea Herald.

The star-studded lineup featuring Ji Chang-wook and Kim Ji-won was another reason the drama series instantly caught people’s interest, with over 940,000 views on Kakao TV for the premiere in its first 24 hours.

I think the fact that both build a strong chemistry in the drama also helped despite the time frame being so short everything was perfect. As I said before, many may find the interview scenes annoying but I think it’s unique and it makes the drama even more special.

  13. D A M N!! That kiss and bed scene was hot. Making everyone hard to breath. Definitely on a whole ‘nother level.

Lee Eun Oh is definitely mysterious indeed. When PJW suggested that they should meet up in Seoul, she just looked at him and smiled and when he said he loved her, she responded back with another smile. I’m looking forward to her displaying her true self.

On the other hand, I feel bad for PJW. If I was him, I would feel the same. He felt something and thought she did too.. he was made/upset that she suddenly disappeared. He felt tricked.

  14. I’m loving it so far. It’s fresh and different from other dramas. Some others my not like the interview scenes and want to get straight to the actual storyline but I really enjoy it.

Plus, the chemistry between JCW and KJW are on fire.

Also, is it just me or does So Ju Yeon reminds anyone of a young Im Soo Jung? Maybe it’s just me. She’s so cute.
