Based on the preview of ep 14

    - JY wear the same shirts when he meets with PSJ, then Young In, and last to meet SA later at night ;

And then this part confuses me

    - SA wear the same clothes when (im not sure) she found out the video Traumerei when she sitting alone in the class, and maybe later JK give her all the CD JY has given to her. Idk, but maybe the sequence can be reversed.

IF JK manage to be veryyyy eviiiiillll, it can be that she gave SA that cd so that SA will listen to it, and then JK told her to compare with the video uploaded under the name of Prof Yoo.

    - The clothes JK wearing was the same clothes when she meet JY and JY told her that he hid it from SA bcs he likes her not bcs he still doesnt get over her, and its also the same clothes of JK when she give SA the CD.

Apparently, it seems like rather than to be mad that Prof Yoo plagiarize his work, his concern is that he doesnt want SA know that he play that piece, bcs it will make her think that he reminded of JK.

And little we know, that JY really played that Traumerei after he cut loose with JK.

I really want to know about y'all opinion on the sequence of the preview of ep 14.

I'm a little bit disappointed since the pre-released video is not about the JY and SA scene like we always get before.

Writer-nim, please, we need a little rainbow after all this heavy rain you make us to watch!

Going out on a limb, but I'm guessing this might possibly be the sequence (but the writer has been throwing curveballs so who knows...):

    1)  [scene in lecture hall] SA finds out about the stolen piano recording through the university's music faculty chat room (gossip travels fast as usual). Guessing that she is more worried for JY, rather than getting jealous about the Traumerei connection to JK at this point.

    2)  [scene where JK shows the CDs to SA] JK visited the campus to return the birthday present CDs so that JY can use them to prove ownership of the stolen recording, BUT JK bumped into SA first because the writer slips in another bad timing/misunderstanding segment. JK being her delusional self tries to feed SA's insecurities.

    3)  [scene between JY and JK in Seoryeong Uni piano rehearsal room] JY tells JK that he doesn't want SA to know about the recording because he likes SA, not because he hasn't gotten over JK. Reality check that JK doesn't ever seem to get??

    4)  [scene between JY and SA in the violin rehearsal room] I wonder if SA asks for time out or a break up here. Don't blame her for feeling exhausted by everything that's been happening and JY not opening up to her fully is building a barrier that is starting to feel insurmountable.

Will do a "good, bad, ugly" list tonight after the livestream. Fingers and toes crossed that episode 14 will progress to a happier place where the sun shines after the rain stops.

Someone commented that the writer seems to be JK in disguise :sweatingbullets:

    DYLB at No. 3

    PEB at No. 3

    KMJ at No. 5

Today's preview video is *no drumroll* PSJ's and JY's conversation in the cafe about the stolen piano recording which we already saw in the episode teaser. SBS really knows how to "hype" things up when DYLB nation was deprived of happy moments last night.

  3. Since episode 13 might cause insomnia, here's an antidote:

On the bright side, at least the writer did not commit the travesty of making JY shelter JK with the umbrella gifted by SA. That would be high treason in DYLB nation.

Professor Duster and Professor Song received too much screen time today. Hope that they can improve the pacing in the last 3 episodes, because we need a proper resolution arc for the main characters. The villains can be taken offline surely!

  4. Ep 13:

That was another intense episode, less frustrating than episode 12, but I wish the screenwriter stops applying a series of unfortunate events to our OTP every episode. It's becoming a dreaded formula.

The good: SA telling Prof Duster that she's quitting the chamber orchestra (more accurately the assistant role, since she's not part of the chamber itself). JY telling Director Nah that he cannot stay beside JK. JY telling JK that he cannot remain as her accompanist and that they should stop meeting each other.

The bad:  JK giving money to JY's father to pay off his debt. Prof Duster humiliating SA about being the wife who will help JY manage his musical career and life behind the scenes in front of Kyunghoo staff, Director Nah and Haena.

The ugly:  JK having the audacity to tell JY that "he needs her just as she needs him" after disclosing that she again lent money to pay off JY's father's debt. Emotional blackmail at its finest. After the debt problem is temporarily resolved, we get another spanner in the works: Prof Yoo stole JY's piano recording and masqueraded it as his own. JK sent a text message to tell JY because he refused to pick up her call. But this incident causes JY to rush to Prof Yoo's place, while SA walks into JK leaving JY's apartment building. SA confronts JK in the final scene.

The uglier:  Prof Duster, Prof Song and now Prof Yoo can all go into the Hall of Shame. And to think we gave Prof Yoo the benefit of the doubt in the earlier episodes.

Dear writer-nim, please give our OTP a break. We have enough problems to resolve without new ones being added every episode. Only 3 episodes to go...

    Papago translation:

"Park Eun-bin, who is back to reality, makes a decision."
Finally, Park Eun-bin makes a decision.
Chae Song-ah's determination is depicted in the 13th episode of SBS' Monday-Tuesday drama "Do You Like Brahms?" (written by Ryu Bo-ri/directed by Cho Young-min), which airs on October 12.
Do you like brahms?' is increasing its level of immersion with the story of running toward its peak. Chae Song-ah (Park Eun-bin) knew she lacked talent, but couldn't let go of her love for the violin. However, he looked back on himself in the face of the reality that he tried to ignore.
In the last 12 episodes, Chae found out something shocking. He found out that he was not a member of Professor Lee Soo-kyung's Chamber. It was Chae Song-ah, who had been doing Lee Soo-kyung's Chamber work for granted. But Lee said, "We only collected the best kids here. I made her work as a general manager from the beginning," he said, bringing Chae from her dream to reality.
Chae Song-ah's ending, recalling the phrase, "I will go back to the beginning of the song," amplified the curiosity about what kind of determination she would make and what the next development would be. In the meantime, in the 13th episode of "Do You Like Brahms," which will air on October 12, Chae Song-ah will make a decision on her dream path.
Currently, Chae Song-ah was working on her postgraduate entrance exam with Professor Lee Soo-kyung's suggestion to play the violin for another two years. However, unlike Chae Song-ah who likes the violin and wants to be good at it, Lee Soo-kyung treated Chae as a smart assistant. Chae Song-ah, who had been running forward, could see her reality.
However, it will not be easy to let go of the dream that I desperately wanted to make mine. Chae Song-ah makes the decision she can make in the reality that she is in. What decision will Chae Song-ah make after facing her dreams and reality? Viewers have no choice but to cheer on Chae Song-ah's choice, as they know how affectionately she has loved the violin and how hurt she has been.
"Do you like Brahms?" The production team said, "Chae Song-ah doesn't run away from reality, but makes her own decisions. Please support and watch Chae Song-ah's first step to be happy and what path she will take now. (Photo = SBS 'Do you like Brahms?')

  7. @Yq Tan Thank you so much for translating the Director's interview! Even though it was focused on episode 12, it's insightful to hear from the Director directly about how he wanted to portray the societal issues, music industry politics, parent-child relationship, family problems, love and friendship in the drama.

The Director's ending words are uplifting (quoting your translation below):

"Sometimes when we face extremely difficult situations, if we have trust that it's bearable, perhaps we would be able to endure it."

p.s. I hope we don't have to eat too many sweet potatoes and drink too many cans of carbonated drinks tomorrow. Fingers crossed and sealed with a pinky promise:

    Spoiler

I can't recall whether SA was carrying her white violin case in the deleted post now. Did you download it by any chance? Thinking that would help us guess how far in the future this scene belongs to (and whether it's post-graduation), though JY is still carrying his trademark black backpack as mentioned in the DC post's caption. Though this scene probably won't be in tomorrow's episode since it was only caught on camera today.

  11. Thanks to everyone for sharing your precious thoughts, insights, updates and everything else about DYLB! Buckle up your seatbelts as we cruise into the final 4 episodes!

     :Megathanks:

Park Eun Bin gives a tour of the DYLB set in this video:

    https://www.vlive.tv/video/217029

Kyunghoo office, the corridors of Kyunghoo building, the special rehearsal room, SA's bedroom, SA's house living room, Hyun Ho's bedroom etc are all part of the same filming set. It's impressive how intricate the set looks, when you scrutinise the bookshelves, stationery, furniture, wall decor etc. PEB mistook HH's room for JY's room at first (based on what PEB's film attire, this was filmed some time before the episode where SA visited JY's apartment). PEB marvelling at JY's "wall of fame" showcasing his medals, trophies and certificates is so cute.

  12. 1. Will SA follow the noble idiocy route?

I chose "No" because of my personal wish to see SA's and JY's growth and journey to overcome the odds. But I do think that if they need some "alone" time to sort out their internal struggles, then they should do so instead of forcing themselves to stick together when they lack the emotional headspace. I'll be cautiously optimistic that "alone" time can mean a short break and does not necessarily mean some melodramatic break-up. They have enough problems on their hands, and can do without the anguish of a break-up when they both clearly have such deep feelings for each other.

    2. Do we need a time skip?

I chose "No" again, because a time skip might mean a lot of things get resolved off-screen and like many of you I hope DYLB avoids this k-drama trope. There will inevitably be some time passing to complete the resolution arc of the story, considering that we do need to fast forward to their graduation, the Tchaikovsky competition, amongst many other unresolved issues in the final four episodes. Even if there is some time skip, I hope it is a short period that is given to us AFTER the characters overcome the hurdles.

    3. What will JY’s answer be to Director Na (JK’s Grandma) as shown in the preview?

I chose "there will be no answer" because I believe the context of Director Nah's question is misleading in the preview. Assuming Director Nah is asking JY to stay beside JK (direct context: remaining as JK's accompanist; possible indirect context: be JK's companion in a deeper capacity as a friend or more), JY will be sensitive enough to pick up both the direct and indirect contexts. My gut feeling is that he will address the direct context but intentionally disregard the second context. But whatever he chooses to do, I hope he carefully and clearly draws the line about his relationship with JK to Director Nah and also affirms his relationship with SA.

And since I'm too emotionally invested in what happens next, this is the result of my (over)analysis of the intro animation sequence posted by @Jillia earlier: https://youtu.be/fU7xLCJTmOw. Wishing for a beautiful and melodious ending!

  13. Spoiler warning for future scenes:

(Source: Two recent posts in DYLB Weibo which did not quote original source. Might be from a K-netizen's IG post??)

In any case, it looks like there are multiple scenes filmed in the day and night at Deoksugung Stone Wall, so the sequence of events is unclear. Also heard that filming will end next week. Still can't believe we are nearing the end.

Echoing @sal2 @cherrhys88 @Jillia , let's keep our fingers crossed for a proper and satisfying ending. The DYLB cast and crew (even the BTS film crew) really seem to get along superbly - there's always so much joy and laughter on the set! I'm sure they are striving to deliver their best in the last four episodes :)

Did I see it wrong or was Song Ah's hair kind of curly in that scene? :O Interesting.

It does look like she has wavy hair. And seems that they're wearing late autumn/early winter attire? Some are guessing a time skip (post-graduation?), but it might just be a matter of a few weeks. I went to re-watch episode 12 and verified the latest available time stamp (see the bus ticket for SA-JY's day excursion to Daejeon) as 2020.10.08. Assuming this is in YYYY.MM.DD format, the story is presently set in early autumn?

Fingers crossed that this will be in episode 14/15 and not the finale! A lot of complaints will be filed against SBS if the ending scene is the two of them strolling along Deoksugung Stone Wall looking solemn. I can't imagine SBS risking their bluray prepayment orders...so hopefully we will not have to worry about some Shakespearean tragedy ending coming our way!

  15. Regarding the ratings, I wish it could do better because it's still the best out of the Monday-Tuesday dramas for me (episode 12 notwithstanding), but the appeal of dramas in terms of genre, story, cinematography, pacing, acting, chemistry of the leads etc can be so subjective. I hope the last four episodes brings back the understated charm of DYLB that was more evident in the first half even as the story delves into the more sombre topics in the final resolution arc. I'll watch till the end, but probably won't live recap going forward (how did I end up live recapping the most angst-filled episode on Tuesday...it gave me insomnia).

Plot and characterisation issues aside, I have to say that all of the cast have done a phenomenal job portraying each of their characters (even the more two-dimensional characters like Professor Lee and Park Seong Jae are well-acted). I cannot imagine Song Ah and Joonyoung being portrayed by anyone other than PEB and KMJ (that's how well I feel they have assimilated into their roles). For that reason, I feel emotionally invested in Song Ah's and Joonyoung's lives and wish for the best for both of them, individually as well as together.

  16. Eng subs can be turned on:

He talks about filming for DYLB, learning and playing classical music piano pieces etc. Also explains that he applied different emotions for each "I like you" line in the confession scene. He said the most memorable line is "Song Ah-ssi" because he says it so many times, and it sounds different each time. Favourite piece that he has played so far in the drama is Moonlight Sonata + Happy Birthday.

@rukizie  Umbrella PPL done right LOL. Surprisingly, watching with subs wasn't as depressing as I imagined. But still, arm yourself with a tub of ice cream.

  18. SA's family:

Not sure if you all noticed the office attire that SA's sister (Song Hee) and  mother were wearing when they bumped into SA and JY outside the apartment lobby. So it turns out that both SA's sister and mother are lawyers because they are donning the distinctive pin worn by solicitors/barristers in Korea on their blazers. (We already know about Song Hee's job from a previous episode, but it didn't occur to me that SA's mother is also a lawyer until now; they seem to be working at different firms because of the way Song Hee was explaining the issues with her boss/mentor the last time).

SA's sister and mother have been portrayed as the high-achieving, more domineering personalities, while SA's father and SA seem keep a lower profile and appear more submissive (not necessarily a pushover).

On whether SA's sister and mother will become yet another obstacle to the SA-JY love story, I don't think they have any rational reason to raise objections unless JY's family gets bankrupted because of his father (fingers crossed, a k-drama trope I hope we don't have to see in DYLB).

    MS & DY:

It's good to see some healthy progression in their relationship. DY finally apologised properly to MS, something he should have done long ago. I'm glad MS realised SA as the most valuable thing that she lost in the fall-out. Maybe the burnt bridges can now be mended. SA really needs a friend who can help her get through the difficult times now more than ever.

    The last 4 episodes:

Hopefully, we get to see appasionato (translation: passionately) in one of the upcoming episodes or in the happy finale. Yesterday's episode has scarred many viewers so some are now predicting a bittersweet/open ending. With four episodes left, I'm still keeping the faith that SA and JY will find the path to happiness after they overcome the obstacles along the long and bumpy road.

JY breaking down in front of his mother is something that should have happened years ago. He has held it in for way too long and can no longer cope. For SA, I hope being kicked out of the chamber orchestra is the last straw and that she will finally take decisive action to stop being exploited by Professor Lee. I wonder if Haena will now turn into an ally or at least stop being an enemy towards SA (Haena witnessed SA's hugging her violin in the rehearsal room and was right next to SA when she was dismissed as a mere "assistant who will not be playing in the chamber orchestra" in front everyone at the welcome dinner).

This scene is so comforting, please remember to play it once a day when you feel like you need a hug:

  19. List of problems to be resolved:

    1.   Paying off JY's father's debt. But we need a longer term solution to this vicious cycle because the father continues to hurt his family again and again. (Isn't it ironic that he's one of the biggest antagonists in this drama but we haven't seen him appear on screen yet?)

    2.   JY regaining his form and performing well at the Tchaikovsky competition. In his current state of mind, he will never make it through the preliminaries.

    3.   SA standing up to Professor Lee about the chamber orchestra and ending her own suffering.

    4.    JK resolving her conflict with her grandmother and father and

    5. .  JY letting go of his guilt and indebtedness towards Director Nah, JK and Kyunghoo Foundation. (Hope the preview for ep13 is misleading and Director's Nah's request is directed at JY staying as JK's accompanist and nothing more.)

    6.   HH finding his own footing in his career and not living in the shadow and suffering from the stigma of being JK's ex-boyfriend. (The drama seems to be going in the direction of some sort of reconciliation between JK and HH?)

    7.   SA and JY resolving their misunderstandings and finding a way to weather the storms together. (Noble idiocy is not the trend, writer-nim. Please don't disappoint us!)

List of happy things to pray for:

    1.   JY and SA finally playing a sonata, whether in private or as part of the grad school recital.

    2.   JY winning 1st place at the Tchaikovsky competition after he regains the will and passion for playing the piano again. And I hope he is finally liberated from all the burdens that he's carrying and stops being indebted to Kyunghoo.

    3.   SA finds the path to happiness, as her father wished for her. Whether this means staying as a violinist or pursuing a different path, all I wish for her is to find the answer and to have the courage and conviction to pursue that path. (Characters like SA's father and Team Leader Cha truly deserve more screen time to balance out the negativity from the truckload of villains...)

    4.   Park Seong Jae losing his position as the Korean Representative for Chris' management agency. Team Leader Cha taking over JY's management.

    5.    Professor Lee losing her position as dean due to her incompetence and severe lack of professionalism and integrity. (In episode 12, she gave 50/100 points when scoring the young violinist simply because that girl is Professor Song's student, although it didn't affect the final outcome. Her exploitation and back-stabbing with respect to SA is unforgivable.)

    6.    Return of wholesome professors in the music faculty. There must be at least one decent person around in this universe.

    7.    A new chamber orchestra is formed for all the underdogs and downtrodden folks in this drama by a white knight. Professor Lee's chamber orchestra is disbanded, while Professor Song's orchestra is reorganised. (JK has to cut off ties with Professor Song at some point.)

    8.    A proper happy ending for SA and JY. After everything that they've been through, and will be going through in the next (hopefully not more than) 2 episodes, there is no other ending that befits them. This is my most ardent wish of the whole list.

  20. I need the "mellow" back in my drama, not the makjang. The last 30 minutes was packed with too many frustrating moments. SA getting kicked out of the orchestra after all everything that she did for Professor Lee. Next week's preview is filled with angst too. JY crying in front of his mother :tears:...Both SA and JY at their breaking points, and not being able to lean on each other because of the circumstances. Not sure how I'll feel after watching with subs tomorrow.

I'm praying that the writer is taking a short detour to makjang stormy seas but will steer us back to calmer waters soon. I don't want SA to degenerate into a damsel and JY to hit rock bottom. They both deserve a break.

  21. Live recap:

Park Seung Jae is having that unkind conversation with SA about JY being a celebrity and how he cannot afford to have a dating scandal, especially not with someone like SA. PSJ says the dating scandal has to be with someone at the standard of JK (someone please wipe him off the face of this earth).

SA is talking to JY in the rehearsal room.

JY asks whether she wanted to rehearse together now, but SA says "another time". JY tries to be supportive and smiles at SA even though he can sense that she's feeling depressed.

SA is taking attendance for Professor Lee's gathering with sponsors/guests/VIPs(?) for the chamber orchestra.

  22. Live recap:

JY's mother cries on the phone while telling JY about his father's latest debt.

JY is so upset that he says something about his father having no pride(?). JY asks how much the debt is.

Team Leader Cha overheard his phone conversation. JY is confiding in Team Leader Cha.

MS and DY meet each other at the entrance of the restaurant where their friends are having a gathering. That friend usually seen in a ponytail is introducing her boyfriend to the group.

MS is drunk and DY is walking her home. MS spills out her frustrations while sitting on the floor.

SA is sleepless on her bed at home, recalling her conversation with JY about him entering the Tchaikowskvy competition.

JY broods in front of the piano thinking about his father's financial woes.

Commercial break before second part starts.

  23. Live recap:

JY offered to be SA's accompanist after hearing from SA's friend that SA needs to find a replacement accompanist.

JY realises that both JK and SA are playing the same piece. SA expresses her reservation, and JY sounds a little irritated. SA decides to go off first.

The umbrella scene in the preview happens. Both apologise to each other and have a short heart-to-heart convo. (This scene is endearing but too short!)

Cut to the young violinist having a lesson with Professor Song.
