That kiss was SO HOT!!!
Both of them pulled it off really well. But in terms of intimacy, I still thought the fake blindfolded kiss was somewhat more intense, maybe coz it was just really quiet with no background music. That just ramps up the intensity.

Just caught up on this drama to tide over a withdrawal from another drama. First 3 epi was somewhat slow, then i just stayed up whole night and sped right up to 8.
There's so much sensual tension in this drama that I rarely see in KDramas. The last I recall having similar level of chemistry/tension is Oh My Venus between Shin Min Ah and So Ji Sub.
Kim Jae Wook is one gorgeous seductive man!

actually he get many injured during GMP filming,and i think that's one of reason his mom always arround himand he's really hard working person, and his mama boy's image is quite attractive

Haha, my take of the interview is that PXR meant that he worked really hard and prepared extensively off screen rather than the cool, suave & handsome LCY that we see on-screen. But yes, he sounds like an adorable dork in real life

No it doesn't change my adoration of him, just a little unexpected to see that he is a smoker considering he gave a very good mama's boy image and he was only 21 when he filmed GMP. I guess its a culture in China and yes, almost every man smokes there

@Erafera1 The weibo link that you referenced was by Wei Qian Xiang though. In that interview, Wei said that CXX is a really good boy and is like a little brother and they just like to tease/taunt each other a lot, even though Wei always win when it comes to teasing. Apparently Mama Chen is always with CXX during filming, so they like to tease and taunt him to grow up instead of always sticking to his mum. Wei said they always teased CXX "When will you grow up? Can you be alone? Can you come out at night? Don't just hangout with your mother." Wei then said that CXX is a really good little brother and likes to act cute (aegyo) off camera
He sounds like a real mama's boy. So I was very surprised when I saw pictures of him smoking on set. Must be all the stress and pressure..

It will be tough to translate sentence by sentence since its a 20 min video but here are the essence:
The interview started off with CXX explaining how he started off to be a child actor. Apparently he was really fashionable when he was young and had colorful hairspray, which got talent scouts noticed.
And then he explained that he could not remember much about his time as a child actor, basically he just found the set really fun.
He was asked how did he get the role of Yang Kang. Apparently there was notice online that they were going to shoot LOTCH 2017 and his parents/uncles and aunts were big fans of JinYong (author of LOTCH), so it got him curious. Then a teacher recommended him to the production company because they still could not find a suitable actor at that time, even though filming was about to start. So when he met the director, the director thought he gave off the vibes of Yang Kang. But he didn't think too much about it and flew back to Beijing to resume his studies. He got the casting call 2 days later to much surprise, because it was his first big break in a big production. He still found it unbelievable.
So he found out later after he entered set that they have auditioned 150 people for the role of Yang Kang and 30 to 40 have even "suited up" (auditioned with the costumes) for the role before it came to him. Apparently, all his predecessor was not suitable for the role. So when he finally had his casting costume on, the director said ok.
So then the host asked how did he feel acting along with Miao Qiao Wei (the Yang Kang from the 83 version). CXX's mum loved that version and insisted he should watched that. After watching that, he felt very pressured and doubted that he can do a good job because Miao's portrayal was too classic. Apparently, Mama Chen is a big fan of Miao and kept asking if CXX will meet him for a shoot. She finally met Miao and CXX joked that his mum was so happy that he felt she was happier seeing Miao than her own son
He also asked Miao how to portray Yang Kang and the advice he was given is not to portray Yang Kang as too evil. YK must be multifaceted.
He was also asked if he was happy with the portrayal of yang kang. CXX said he has tried his best and hope it will be liked by the audience.
The host commented that CXX is VERY tall and still very young. (He was 21 when the talkshow was filmed)
CXX was asked what scene was most memorable. He said he was quite late when he joined the set and he was still a bit of a blur. But his first scene required him to be hung on wires, for the scene where he had to fight to win the bride. So the action scenes took 4 days to film and his hands went from green to purple to no color. He explained he started his first scene (from learning the moves to completion of filming) by taking 30 mins and gradually progressed to only taking 7 minutes by day 4. He felt having a background in dance helped him (apparently he majored in dance in high school).
He was then asked how he felt filming the loveline scenes. CXX said he feels a bit shy because this is the first time he was exposed to this loveline as an actor. (his prior films probably didn't have a loveline) However, he explained that all the bad things that Yang Kang did was because of his mother and also Mu Nian Ci (his wife/gf)
Thr interview then ends with CXX appealing to the audience to watch the drama and hope everyone likes it!

You can only cry when you have energy.

Not sure if this was posted earlier. He still looks so fierce in this new drama!
I hope it will be an entertaining drama because typically these big celebratory/anniversary production would want to appeal to the masses (including elders) and can sometimes be a little too factual or boring! Let's just hope it has got good scriptwriter to deliver the storyline.

So while stalking on weibo, there is this new hashtag/topic about fans protesting against TangDe Production (producing company for GMP) for changing CXX main lead status in the drama.
In a typical korean or japanese drama or movie, there will be that one main lead who carries the burden of the production, in terms of popularity, reception etc. Think Park Min Young to "Her Private Life" or Hyun Bin to "Memories of Alhambra". There is no shared main lead concept. In China there is less emphasis on this because the storyline is generally blurred with equal leads.
So during the broadcast of GMP in China, CXX's name/profile always appeared first in the teaser, promotional materials, opening theme and even official weibo posts ahead of PXR. However, in the new promotional materials for the korean version, PXR appeared first now. So CXX fans got super mad claiming that TangDe used CXX's popularity during broadcasting and now just discarded him. TangDe is also affiliated with Fan Bing Bing whose company manages PXR and the girl who played SeSe. Thats why many fans complained when SeSe scenes became a lot more than necessary, it was because TangDe wanted to push SeSe.
I thought it was fairly trivial, but interesting to see that CXX's fans had their guards up over this, he has gotten really popular!

Q: You faced quite a bit of backlash before GMP aired, did you feel pressured?
CXX: I think it was still ok, because there was really no point thinking too much about it or it will affect my performance. I did hear good and bad feedback during that time but I thought people might change their perception once they see the finished product.
Q: LCY is a ruthless character, were you not worried that you will be scolded/hated?
CXX: When people started watching, many could not understand this character. But I think people will have a better understanding of the character as the story develops because I think this is a complete character. Everyone would have their own interpretation/feedback on this character.
Q: What was the most challenging part during the filming of GMP?
CXX: The hardest part to me is to deliver such a complex character because LCY's experience, actions and thoughts are very different from mine. I may not be able to experience what LCY went through even after a lifetime. I need to understand the essence of this character so that I can deliver his character.
Q: Did you experience anything unforgettable on set?
CXX: While I was watching the part where GXW was blindfolded and while he was memorising the roads, I knew exactly where I fell. It didn't appear obvious in the next scene, but I actually could not even walk properly after I fell.
Q: Did you read the novel? What was yourbunderstanding of the character?
CXX: I read the novel many times after getting the script. But to be honest, because the novel was written from the perspective of XF and very little was mentioned about LCY's perspective, I only saw his actions but I couldn't understand why he did what he did. He is very demanding and conteolling in the novel, but I thought to myself, why is he like this? I didn't really understand, but the script gave a lot more backstory to LCY's character to explain his actions which helps my understand and act out why LCY would do such a thing and why is there such abhuge disparity in the character.
Q: What do you feel is different as compared to acting now vs. acting as a child?
CXX: When I was younger, I never gave too much thought because acting was something I like. However, as I grew older, I realized I like acting the most and am also most suitable for this profession. So, I can only continue to train and gain more experience. I won't think too much.
Q: Are you worried that your popularity will reduce after GMP ends?
CXX: Not too worried, because I am not that popular anyways. I think one should not think too much as an actor. As long as you immerse in each character and make the audience understand, loveand buy into your character, then they will naturally try to understand the actor more?
Q: Did you ever consider giving up during your (career) down period?
CXX: I am really not kidding when I say I don't really care too much about how people perceive of me, because I am doing what I really like and what others think has no effect on me. Even if I were in other profession I would still need to clock in and out. Just because I do not become a boss, does that mean I need to give up? It's really just going through a process. Whether I become popular after a movie/drama, or whether I receive any casting offers does not affect my liking to this profession. I won't think too much. As long as I am given an opportunity and that I fully seize this opportunity, I think that is enough.
Q: Up till now, did you receive any differential treatment on set?
CXX: Not really, maybe everyone sees me as cute but I have not experienced anything unhappy on set.
Q: What are your views on celebrities being cyber bullied?
CXX: I think this is normal for the profession. This is part and parcel of what comes with being in this profession. I think this is a normal expectation.
Q: Would you accept a similar role?
CXX: Not in the short term because I have put in my all for this character and wouldn't have any further input to this type of character based on what I have experienced at the moment. I will not be able to differentiate the characters too much. It will be irresponsible on my part as well as to the audience since I would not have nothing new to offer. But maybe in the later future after I have more experience in life, I may be able to bring more flavours to a similar character with more life experience.

I've been camping at CXX's thread after GMP ended, but so good to see all this POVs on the characters.
My take was LCY did whatever he thought was necessary to keep his throne and his woman. We had the privilege of seeing things at all sides and could empathize with him but XF only saw his cruel, cunning and heartless side. To XF, he is a monster that she cannot comprehend and cannot love. So their love was really not meant to be. And to those who mentioned LCY forcing himself on XF as being monstrous/evil, I think we need to take things in the olden day context where women were always second to men. They are both married, for years too, and it is already amazing that LCY basically just celibate himself (on XF) all this while, while being in love with XF. He completely lost it when XF said she hates him after coming back from being kidnapped and wanted to make sure that she knows her position. I don't think its fair to her, but women at that time (some even now) will not be able to say no to sex if the husband wants it. If we are going to impose modern values on a historical drama, then we need to start critiquing why LCY had 2 other wives etc etc.
I did not like GJ at all from the start because he just felt like a really lame guy who couldn't decide whether he wants love or revenge. He flip flops his decision and then gets angry at LCY/GXW for something he also had a hand in doing, which is just bizarre to me. I just find his character really annoying especially when he acted like it was his duty/right to "rescue" XF from LCY after all that he has done to her? It's just seriously WTF for me...
I also understood why LCY wanted and had to kill GJ. To the palace, GJ was the kidnapper of the crown princess and also the assassin who attacked the emperor. I think LCY already gave him an option when he warned Chai Mu to ask GJ not to stir up more trouble and just return XF. However, GJ went ahead to pretend to be GXW and kinda manipulated XF into regaining her memories and then coaxing her to leave the palace even after knowing how much LCY and XF love each other. To me that was the most cruel thing to do, because I have no idea what he wants to achieve by invoking those really bad memories in XF unless he just wants her to suffer.
My favourite side characters are Ah Du and Mi Luo. Ah Du took in all the pain and had to pretend to be mute so that XF can live a carefree life in the palace while Mi Luo never judges and just provide good help and advise.
I miss all these characters already, except GJ of course. Hoping for a new unedited version of GMP to be out so that I can start binge watching again!

I read on weibo that youku took it down to "make it better" - that was the official reason given. Not sure what that meant, I hope they mean fixing the editing! Apparently other shows had similar fate in the past too!

CXX: Yes, there is definitely a huge difference. Before I entered Uni, to me acting is just a concept and to act. One more thing being in uni also taught me to create a character, shape it and have a concept. R: Nowadays, we often here so and so is a naturally born gifted actor, do you think you fit the bill?
CXX: I don't think so. I really don't think I am born to be gifted in acting. Of course, I believe god given talents are very important, and I won't deny that maybe I have a teenie weeinie bit of talent, but what I believe to be really important is to work hard and to really master a craft. When you master a craft to a certain extent, then you would be slightly better than your peers.
R: When you were in Uni, did you set out a plan on what kind of actor you want to become?
CXX: When we were in uni, or just being in that kind of environment, we would be exposed to elderly teachers who have had stage performance experience. This to me, is very beneficial because you learn a lot from these elderly teachers. In Central Academy, there was a saying that performance is bigger than the sky. So essentially, it boils down to our attitude, to how we respect our craft in performing. If you treat it with respect, then you will definitely do well on this path.
R: GMP has become really popular. Are there any future roles that you are really anticipating?
CXX: I have been asked about this many times! I always feel very lucky to have met a project and character that I really like. I hope I will have the chance to try new roles and characters which I have not tried before in the future, including different genres. I hope it will widen my possibilities and perspectives and allow people to see different sides of me.
R: There are many articles on you and many regard you as "xiao xian rou" (young and good looking)...
CXX: *excitedly* Oh you got that wrong, everyone sees me as an ahjussi!
R: Oh no, I saw many fans also gave you a nickname "Nine Days Little Brother"
CXX: That is because if you separate out the character "Xu", it can be written as "nine" "days"

CXX: I've never really thought of how to position myself. As an actor, I think you have to be like a..... Dough? You will have to be molded a certain way, depending on the character you play. I take myself to be like a dough. When I play a particular character, then I need to mold myself to be a certain way. If its a different character later, then I need to shape myself differently again.
On my normal (not acting) days, I will just be myself. In real life, I will just do what makes me happy or do things that I like. I don't really mind people putting labels on me because that means people actually likes you. I am happy about this, but I won't take a label and make it my own. I am just me.

He looked a lot darker when he was younger too (in his teen movies) , I wonder if it was just technology or he had some good skincare regime that makes him so squeeky clean now. He is so fair now I am dying with envy!

Day Day Up clip! Now I know why CXX said he was really mad after filming this. He was betrayed by PXR!
I think they are playing a game where they should catch the spy and PXR was the spy! She said she would have not been able to win if not for her "pig teammates" (can be read as "accomplice" for being too innocent and trusting), which is CXX and the other young boy. Both of them are too innocent to guess that PXR was the spy, you can see CXX's unbelievable face, hahaha!
CXX also said later that he is closest to PXR among everyone present and maybe that's why he trusted her too much! LOL!! He is such a dork in real life, taking a game so seriously and he seems to be easily confused hahahaha! This is such a huge departure from his character LCY who is such a manipulator!

Q: What scene did you acted out when you auditioned for GMP?
A: I had to act out the scene with the fireflies for the audition. (Recap of Firefly scene)
Q: Did it take 1 audition or many takes before you were finally chosen as the male lead?
A: After rehearsing 1 time and after various communication with the director and the producer about the character (LCY), then it was decided (that CXX would take the role)
Q: Did you ever ask the director why you were chosen?
A: Oh, we never discussed about this because I believe the director chose me for a reason. I didn't think it was appropriate to discuss about this at that time.
Q: The character LCY is a douchebag, were you worried when you took on this role?
A: I wasn't worried because I tried to understand LCY from the beginning till the end (thoroughly). From the standpoint of LCY, he had to do what he did and didn't do anything wrong. It's just that sometimes he had no choice but to do things which ultimately hurt the people he cherishes. My biggest worry is that LCY is a complex character, there were many parts where I had to act out precisely.
Q: Are you worried being labelled as a douchebag in the future?
A: No, because I think LCY is that kind of character. I believe with new roles that I will take on in the future, people will care more about the show and the character. It's good that this character attracted many interests, I'm very happy.
Q: Does LCY love power more or XF?
A: I think he loves both and he wants both. I believe he also feels indebted to XF but with a lot of love.
Q: Which part of the script did you feel that even you can't accept as LCY?
A: I think overall it was ok, I can understand why he did certain things because he had his reasons from his point of view.
Q: At which part did you feel like punching LCY?
A: There wasn't any part, haha.. I really thought it was ok.

A: I think he will try his utmost best to stop XF from remembering the past. However, I believe if XF ultimately remembers in the end, the ending will still be the same.
Q: You left a deep impression acting as Yang Kang and LCY. Would you want to play similar roles in the future?
A: I think I would put it off for a while because I think it would be difficult to bring something new to the table with similar character types and the viewers would find it boring.
Q: GMP is about to end, what do you have to say to the fans?
A: Firstly, I am really thankful for all the support given to GMP, to LCY and also towards me as CXX. After this, I would have new dramas/movies with different character types to be presented to the viewers. I am really thankful for all your effort, support and love for CXX.
