Yeap, it is a common practise in Chinese dramas. Very rarely do Chinese dramas retain the voices of the original actors, not sure why is this the case tho... :)

I think there are 2 main reasons:

    1. Due to language - because the actors are from all over China, their accent/dialects differ and not all of them speak good standard mandarin, but since the dramas are to be aired in the whole country, they need it to be understood by everyone thus the voice dubbing by professionals.

    2. Money saving - it seems China has a tendency to save on budged by filming in one set, while right next door the next set is being built or previous set is being torn down and thus all the noise would be heard, but if it's later dubbed over and no actual sound from the set makes it to the finished product - all is good and thus voice actors dub over the actors.

I know right??? I am rooting for them to last too because his story is just as sad...having to revenge for his family members by sacrificing and using those around him to finish his goal. But then I think about all his actions so far and I'm like, dang he's one messed up guy so he deserves to be alone in the end. Ugh, why did they cast a handsome guy for the role? Makes it hard to hate him

It's less about him being handsome, but more about how charmingly he manages to pull off the role - we hate him & yet we love him, sigh. :sweatingbullets:

  4. Completely new to this thread, but just wanted to put in my 2 cents as well.

I really did love Ever Night and think everyone did an excellent job

The actors did such a splendid job portraying the roles given to them.

The director really knew just what needs to be done.

    The cinematography was breathtaking.

    And the OST is remarkable.

    The fight choreography is awesome.

All in all, Ever Night is near perfect to me.

My only complaint is that they didn't fully portray Ning Que as savage as he is in the novel, here he was more playful & less cruel thou still just as shameless :D

And also NQ & SangSang's relationship - the nuances that made it so unique and enchanting, wish they had paid more attention to it, especially when SS went away and NQ went after her. That was most important of all and yet they messed that up & completely downplayed it.

Oh well, still love the drama!

And lolz, the drama made me aware of the novel, before that I had seen/heard of Nightfall somewhere in passing, didn't realise it was this fantastic. So as I was waiting for more episodes to be aired sometime before the middle of the drama I went hunting for the novel and started reading it and thus realised what a gem it is.

While it did make me realise how much cooler the characters are in the novel, still didn't take away the joy from the drama, even if at times I now knew how they could've done better.

Nightfall  I love absolutely, but Ever Night also has my love

It really is too bad Arthur Chen didn't continue his role as NQ and when I first learned of it I felt kind of betrayed, and felt bad for Dylan Wang since he'd need not only to portray NQ but make his NQ as similar to Arthur's as possible since we know/love that NQ and his mannerism.

But since we get to see more and more BTS of Dylan as NQ I am confident he'll manage to pull off NQ's character just fine and we'll love Dylan's NQ just as much ^^

Well, what I'm most happy about is that we won't be left hanging forever with an unfinished story without ever getting season 2 *cough* tribes & empires *cough* princess agents *cough*  because we know Ever Night 2 is already in the works and nearly done, wohoooooooo :D

Pillow Book is a completely different story from TMOPB. In an interview, Vengo confirmed it. TMOPB took liberties in making the DongFeng couple compliment the story of TMOPB. I guess what the writers weren’t expecting was the second couple to become as popular as they did. Hence, the spin-off. Although the story will deviate from it’s predecessor, a comforting idea is that Yang Mi will be back to reprise her role. Now my question abt that is if they’ll base Bai Qian ‘s character off TMOPB or of they’ll change things accordingly to fit Pillow Book’s story.

    Welcome to the DongFeng fam! @Hana-chan^.^ @Rouzmary @rapo65 @orenji_neko @euphoenix

    1) I stumbled upon PB just because I needed white noise in the background while I was working. I had it on & intended to watch a small part just to get an idea of the story. I began at some random episode that was DongFeng heavy & ended up watching to the end then backtracking to episode one because I like it so much. Honestly, I’d been aware of TMOPB but it wasn’t the type of drama I’d usually go for. But all of a sudden I was obsessed! Ended up getting into the fantasy genre watching Ashes of Love & liking that too.

    2) I don’t think they know abt their international fan base because we’re all few and spread far in between around the world. It’s the reason why I signed up here lol

hehe, thanx for the welcome! :)

I'm pretty sure Bai Qian in PB drama will be the same as in TMOPB drama because she doesn't have that much scenes and her character/personality remains the same thus even if they also adjust Bai Qian to the Bai Qian in PB novel (lolz, that was a mouthful) she'll still be the same we got to know in TMOPB drama.

Or at least that's what I think/hope :sweatingbullets:

Q1: how did you, guys stumble upon the Pillow Book?
Q2: do Vengo and Reba realize/know they have also an international fan base? What do you think? :D

    Hi!

Heh, I also joined the forum just so I'd be able to join the discussions XD

    1. hmmmm I think I stumbled upon TMOFB novel about a year before it became a drama or right before it on Hamster428's blog as I was browsing novels and I think it was all the talk at the time cuz it was going to get a drama adaption ;)

At the time I couldn't find it anywhere fully translated because the translations had just been taken down due to the whole plagiarization scandal and thus I kinda gave up looking for it for a while, but then the drama started airing and it was awesome! I loved it! Not to mention Donghua & Fengjiu totally were my faves :D

So while the drama was airing...or was it soon after it finished airing? I found TMOPB novel's official translation on amazon and got it. And then I found out it has The Pillow Books which are all about Fengjiu & Donghua (which were available on Hamster's blog, I think, fan translation) and yup, devoured the books in 2-3 days! Needless to say, they're awesome, can't wait to see it all in the drama

    2. I'm pretty sure they're well aware they have international fans

If I'm not wrong even this 3rd installment, there just a little connection between the 1st and 2nd..the connection just about the sabre and the sword that belong to the 1st and 2nd heroes Guo Ching and Yang kuo..so if you just wanna watch the 3rd is ok...

Its not about harem, but wuji involve with couple of girls, but in the end there is just one girl He choose if I'm not mistake..

Oooh, ok, thanx! That helps lessen my worries/decision! ^^

Will give it it a try then ;)

So, will this be a sequel to the drama or a standalone adaption of the book if anyone knows?. Since in the book they didn't really knew each other right?. Compared to the drama where they had a past.

I had been wondering the same thing - like, how do they expect to follow the novel with the way they made their relationship in TMOPB drama, right? It doesn't quite go together.

But someone said to me (can't remember who or where) that the pillow book drama will pretty much ignore TMOPB drama and just follow the pillow book novel so there won't be any problems ^^

If anyone has more/better info, do share ;)

  9. Hi guys! Completely new to this drama here :D

I'm considering watching the drama (and probably later on read the novel as well) but before I dive in I've got 2 questions:

    1. The synopsis say this is basically like a 3rd installment in the condor heroes universe...and I have still not seen a single condor heroes movie/series, lol, just can't bring myself to start 'em SO - do I need to watch at least smt of condor heroes before I watch this one I or I will be able to understand everything anyways?

    2. what's the romance like? I hate harems and am barely able to stomach them sooo...are there several love interests for our hero or is he steadfast with just 1 love or maybe there's no romance at all? In fact I'd prefer no romance to harem :phew:

Can someone please tell me the detail why did xiaowu attacked danchi and killed xf’s grandpa? I really dont get it. Wasnt it the queen from the central and the prime minister from the central that caused gu family’s problem?

The Li empire and Danchi had had an uneasy relationship for decades and this time the emperor decided to use the crown prince's assassination and the set up that Danchi did it as an excuse to finally get rid of Danchi.

And the "glory" of the prince who brings down Danchi would help the prince then become the next crown prince since he gained merit by killing Danchi's king.

So this time it had nothing to do with the empress & Gao family but simply due to politics/war/interest between Danchi & Li.

That's why Chengyin/Xiaowu had to be the one to kill Xiaofeng's grandpa, so that he would have a better chance to become the crown prince.

Obviously Chengyin didn't expect to become grandpa's in-law and even when he did, he still had tried so that when he does kill him, Xiaofeng wouldn't be there to see it buuuuuuut as we know, it failed completely.

The empress goes "it's been over a yr now, y haven't crown princess gotten pregnant?"...if only she knew what went on behind closed door, him and her sleeping with their own blanket beside each other .

...waaaait a moment, so they have been married for a year? *thinks back on the latest eps* damn, they just might be! the preggo maid was giving birth in last ep and we first saw her with flat stomach so must be around 7 months at least...they just might have been married for a year already...

...so has he been avoiding Sese's bed for a year or did they consummate in the drama? <_<

Regarding  the preggo maid- did the emperor slept with her coz he is drunk and comes inside the bath where the maid is showering.  The queen took advantage of this.  Instead of the king father, the Prince son is pointed out as the culprit. Wow!!!!! CMIIW

O.O the bath maid was this maid aka the preggo maid? I thought that bath woman was the new concubine the empress got him...

So sweet but I hope to have the scene that LCY apologize to XF for the slap (this is only my hope, not in novel), otherwise I will be very angry. My XF can't be treated like that. At least I want the XF to know that it's not really LCY's intention to slap her. Sadly, by the end, XF still didn't know LCY's true love was for her.

  14. @pad-hari I think it's like @furu.vu217 said - they probably changed the plot a little in the drama and I think we'll have both attempts at suicide as two separate scenes/incidents.

By the clothing it looks like Xi clothing  her father wore so the person who took Xiaofeng away is probably either her father or brother.

I know which thread you're talking about and I really can not understand how they could think the acting is not good when in fact it's excellent! Maybe they've got the flu or smt :P

I don’t really get the political side of the story. Can someone explain a little. Who is this Mr Chai that is GJ adoptive father? Why does it feels like the the king hates LCY? Isn’t he his real son?

Are LCY trying to overthrow his father? And if so why? He’s after all the only Prince left in the capital isn’t he? And the only smart on.

As I understand it, Mr. Chai was a loyal subordinate to General Gu who was Gu Jian's father.

Gu family was set up for downfall by the Gao family (empress, her uncle) and the Zhao family was involved as well (Sese's family).

Li Chengyin's mother was from Gu family and was killed by the empress.

That is why Chengyin needed to gain the crown princes position to have the power to avenge his mother & her family's death, because Gao & Zhao family are powerful themselves and as a mere prince he wouldn't have been able to bring them down, thus his bloody path to become the CP.

I don't think the emperor hates LCY. He's real clever and knows LCY is faking being an uninterested/kinda stupid CP. Emperor is well aware of mostly everything so he's just cautious with LCY to see what LCY's endgame is.

LCY is not trying to overthrow his father, like I said - he wants to kill the Gao & Zhao family.

He is indeed the only prince left in the capital because the other two left as to not get killed. And yup, definitely the only smart one among the remaining princes XD

just a question? --  does general pei like the princess as well?  I thought they were alluding to it somehow??

I don't think he likes her romantically - at least not in the drama.

He probably sees her more as a friend, especially since he knows the pain his buddy/friend/prince LCY inflicted on her in the past and currently. Thus he's extra mindful of trying to be as good to her as possible.

As for him liking the other princess...not sure about that. There's no doubt the princess likes him, but it does not look like he reciprocates  the feelings.
