  1. @YouwinJH @Biology Lesson Appearances on those shows, I assume, pay money, so that might be another reason to do it, while he is kept busy and at least present in the industry. Also, the fact the he doesn’t have an actual project outside of Korea may be the reason he is still there. He at least can continue getting gigs in Korea (we may not care but its a source of income for him) I like that he is being proactive and not a conformist. I was actually glad to learn this about him.

    @azureblue7 I miss him!!!

@YouwinJH I finally finished “Because this is my first life”. It had a lot of good moments but it ended not being a favorite of mine as a whole. It got excruciatingly slow towards the end. Even the way the main couple interacted, they moved slowly, they spoke slowly! It drove me a little nuts! My favorite characters were the sexy friend and her boyfriend.

  2. @Biology Lesson Since he has already learned the theory, the formal grammar etc what he needs now is to live at least 6 months in an english speaking country. Its the fastest way to just throw yourself at it. And yes, the best is to not care about making mistakes but for some people (perfectionists) this is tough to actually do. But yes, agree with you.

  3. @YouwinJH Suddenly Im reminded that Bloody Heart existed! And just how great JH was in it!!! I think I love that drama more as I think about it.

@Biology Lesson I love The Mandalorian though! (Not Marvel but Disney) Im a little desperate and just want him in any project that involves him acting or at least showing his attractiveness and charisma. I miss him!!!

  4. @Biology Lesson Actually, JH has more loyal fans in Japan than in Korea. The japanese fan meetings are more fancy and expensive than the one he did in Korea. I think the ticket for the korean fan meeting was around 100 dollars and the Japanese ones are almost 1k (I think. Ill ask again). The korean one was barely filled. The japanese fan meetings are very likely profitable. The one he did in Korea was just done mostly for the fans. What Youwin is saying aligns with what I heard back then.

About Thank You, I agree that its not melodramatic as the premise may suggest. Its as subdued as it can be. Also agree about JHs hair not being my favorite lol

And there were two other directors he worked twice with, the director of Please teach me english and The Flu and the director of Volcano High and Innocent Thing

@YouwinJH JH owns a building in Gangnam which appreciated with time. Given this, it seems he is ok financially but I suppose he still needs to earn money. Korea is expensive and having three kids is almost insane in that country.

  5. @YouwinJH Awww that old couple! I cried with that episode too!

I wont push Thank You. Its an old drama but I do remember it fondly. The parts that moved did so genuinely. I did not feel “manipulated”. And there were many relationships/moments that stood out for me, all different. JHs character interaction with the little girl and with the grandpa was my favorite. It also had humor. Its not all sad at all times.

JH and female lead, I found their dynamic irritating (mostly because of his character) but later they have really good moments too. One of my favorite is him hugging her in the car after they’ve been looking so long for the little girl. She was asleep but he gave her such a good hug! (Kdrama hugs tend to be so stiff)

But anyway being an old drama, you should expect a lot of flaws too

My memory is so bad! I completely forgot that I had written many posts about Thank You lol! Sharing in case you or anyone gets curious

  6. @YouwinJH Thanks for the recommendation. Ill check it out. Ill just probably take my time with it.

And yes, Because this is my first life is philosophical but not preachy. Very nice. I found that scene relatable as well. I cried. And I like how they use the soundtrack in this drama. Even the music is not overly sentimental.

Im also intrigued by the stories of her two friends. Especially the “sexy” professional one who wanted to be a boss but ended up working for creepy men. Im invested and I hope they all succeed in finding happiness.

Did you ever try to watch Thank You? There were some things about that drama that I didn’t understand (mostly JHs character on the first half, he was annoying on that first half) but, there was also some depth to it and I found it heartwarming. I think Ill rewatch it for the parts that I did like. Its slow though so not sure Ill be able to stay awake lol

  7. @Biology Lesson Not excited either. I want to see him acting. Im not into variety shows in the least and I don't care about celebs homes etc :expressionless: soooo bored!!!!

@YouwinJH Working my way through “Because this is my first life”. I think its well written and has depth. Its had a couple of standout scenes. The wedding was one that moved me (his words to her mom) Its definitely a pleasant watch for me, but I don't have an urge to come back to it when I pause it. Most likely its because my job has gotten more exhausting so my attention span for “non work related” stuff has gotten way worse.

  8. @YouwinJH I absolutely cry buckets watching FTLY, every time. The devotion they had for dogpoopie, even though he was only a dream, basically,  crushes me. And JH and JNR’s chemistry in that drama is not ordinary. Very few couples come close, to me. I guess we all have different triggers. Ive gotten side tracked now but hope to get back to BIMFL soon.

  9. @YouwinJH I started watching BTIMFL a couple of weeks ago. The streaming I work on acquired it and wanted to so some testing. It intrigued me enough to put it on pause to watch with mom later. Not specially impressed with the actor yet but too early to tell. The drama itself has good reviews so Im not surprised its decent.

And yes this is very OT. Eek, but I have nothing to comment on Hyuk at the moment. Oh wait! I do. Our service also acquired The Swordsman and I watched it again. Still love it.

I also watched Along with the Gods with Cha Tae Hyun, for the same reasons as above. It was alright. I thought I’d like it more.

  10. @Biology Lesson pure black coffee wouldn’t be less  healthy than with milk or cream. In my case, I wish I liked it black precisely because it would be better for weight loss purposes. I think JH stays away from instant coffee or those packets that have powdered milk that they use in Korea. Those are more processed therefore much less healthy. Those coffee mate type of creamers for example. Better to drink regular coffee and regular milk, cream, non dairy milks etc

Also, certain “bitter” foods stimulate the production of bile which is helpful to process fats, etc. A little bit of bitter is not so bad in general, healthwise. People also drink coffee for energy. I do like the taste but only drink one cup a day.

  11. @Biology Lesson I drink latte with no sugar every morning for breakfast. Its not disgusting, its the opposite, for me at least. Its the highlight of my day! I wish I could drink coffee black but can’t. Not disgusting but too bitter. So I opt for milk instead of black with sugar to soften the bitterness.

  12. @Biology Lesson @YouwinJH Very difficult to assess wether he’d be a good director or not unless he tries it. I agree that him teaming up with a director he already likes and respects would be the best route. There are so many ways in which directors approach their role. Ive seen cases where well known directors barely speak to actors and concentrate on other aspects just letting actors “be”. Whereas others focus on all details of the performance. It all depends on what kind of story you are trying to tell, and of course most of this is about overcoming obstacles like, limited budget, time, location issues etc etc etc Whenever a production actually “works” its like a miracle or magic happened, when you realize all that went into making it happen

He may be thinking of directing because he may not be getting good offers and he needs to create work for himself. I hope he announces a project soon.

About the hat, its very harsh to call him ridiculous. If he didn’t feel comfortable with his hair (which did look funky) I see nothing wrong with wearing a hat. He doesn’t have to act all the time thinking about what the fans may think or be expecting. Its ok to want to feel comfortable himself.

  13. Awww @Biology Lesson I loved this last thing you wrote. Im not watching the show due to lack of time but I like that the brothers are actually good friends and its not just show-business.

I dont think JH is narcissistic at all. To me he is just very odd and dorky and he knows it. I think he has embraced this side of himself instead of trying to “fit in” anymore. He was probably much more anxious when he was younger because he was obviously finding himself (as we all are, always) and likely found himself being misunderstood often. But now he seems much more comfortable in his own skin and unleashes his weirdness shamelessly lol. This confidence may get confused with vanity maybe (?)

He is also an actor, an artist, appreciating the fan art made of his likeness and his characters is actually nice, why wouldn’t he? He looked so touched and happy when my mom was holding the fan art we gifted him that time in NY. My mom still talks about that moment. “He looked like a happy child” she says. His face brightened up and it was unforgettable. Gumi experienced this every time they handed him the dolls made of his characters. He collects figurines of his favorite characters so it must be so nice to see fans make some of his characters. Its also beautiful to find joy and pride if the work you’ve done and the impact it had on other people. I see nothing strange or wrong with this. Its actually pretty healthy imo as opposed to being too self critical (something artists can tend to suffer from and which can lead to suffering and self destruction)

Also I just saw an interview with a guy who invented (?)a kind of  underwear for horse riders and thats his business now. If only we knew JHs size we could send them these a a present :loolz:

Anyway, I agree with Biology that he  should show us the sexy! If he likes this side of himself and is not completely oblivious to the effect of his sex appeal then why doesn’t he try to exploit more!!!
