What did Joo Won gain from ‘7th Grade Civil Servant”?

Joo Won did not succeed in hitting his 4th home run in MBC drama 7th Grade Civil Servant after consecutively achieving high viewer ratings in dramas Baker King (2010), Ojakgyo Brothers (2011) and Gaksital (2012).

7GCS finished its airing on 28 March with a national viewer rating of 8.4%.  The drama had once recorded its highest viewer rating of 16% and it looked like rating would continue to rise but it went down to 7.5% for the episode broadcast on 27 March.

It can be said the cause of achieving lower ratings this time was due to the drama itself, not Joo Won.  7GCS was a big hit back in 2009 with 4 million people watching its movie version.  At first, it gathered so much anticipation from viewers towards the drama version but the viewers criticized story of the 20-episode serial drama was worse than the movie.

The writing of the unrealistic NIS and after Uhm Tae Woong finished his cameo appearance, the confrontation between the good and the bad could not elevate tension of the drama.  Also because feeling of the leads was not delicately written, that did not encourage viewers to keep watching.

However, Joo Won who played the protagonist Han Gil Ro was praised for his acting.   The confident and audacious Han Gil Ro was born in a rich family, after watching 007 James Bond series, he had committed himself to become a NIS.  He met Kim Seo Won whose character was a total opposite of him, they initially had lots of bickering but gradually fell in love and became lovers.

By taking the role of Han Gil Ro, Joo Won in his mid-20s had successfully pulled out from his usual image on acting serious and heavy dramas.  He opened wide his eyes to express his comical acting to portray the image of the impudent looking but lovable character Han Gil Ro.  He also showed his charm in acting as a good couple with Seo Won.  Seriously, when he played scenes as an NIS agent having conflicts with others, his acting was particularly charismatic.

7GCS is the only project which Joo Won did not achieve high viewer ratings but considering he is only a 26-year-old actor, it is only the beginning of his acting life, it is not necessary to worry about the failure this time.  Through 7GCS, he did actually get an opportunity to change his image, besides he has become a friendly and approachable actor in the public.
