Han Ji-Hoon overcame an underprivileged childhood to pass the judicial examination and become an elite prosecutor. Kim In-Sook lives in the shadow of a Chaebol family, but finally becomes the head of a large corporation.

For Han Ji-Hoon (Ji Sung), Kim In-Sook (Yum Jung-Ah) is the woman who made his difficult life tolerable. Ji-Hoon grew up in an orphanage. He once became the prime suspect of a murder just because his teddy bear was found at the scene of the crime. During that time, Kim In-Sook sent the best lawyer to take up his defense. Ji-Hoon was cleared of the charges. Without Kim In-Sook, Ji-Hoon's life would have been destroyed. Instead, Ji-Hoon eventually became a star prosecutor after he caught the criminal who committed the murder in which Ji-Hoon was the first suspect.

Kim In-Sook has lived in the shadow of the powerful JK family for 18 years. She is the daughter-in-law of a chaebol family, but ignored by her in-laws. Making matters worse, her husband died in a helicopter accident. In-Sook's mother-in-law, Kong Soon-Ho, planned a conspiracy to make In-Sook appear incompetent and take custody over her son. The end result would have been Kim-In-Sook's expulsion from the JK family.

Ji-Hoon watched In-Sook at her husband's funeral. He was stunned to see In-Sook's beaten down appearance. Furthermore, Ji-Hoon learned of her mother-in-law's scheme to oust her from the family.

Ji-Hoon then set the goal to make In-Sook the head of the JK family. While he struggled to accomplish this goal, Ji-Hoon realized his feelings towards Kim In-Sook wasn't from a sense of pity or compassion. Rather, Ji-Hoon was in love with In-Sook. Finally, he accomplished his goal of having her become the president of the JK group.

Yum Jung Ah as Kim In Sook
Kim In Sook aged 42, the second daughter-in-law of the JK Clan

In Zhengge Yuan, she is addressed as “K”, the initial letter of her name.

She has to address her mother-in-law as Mrs。。。
And she is never regarded as their sister-in-law by her husband’s brothers and sisters.

For as long as 18 years, her existence has been completely ignored and she is isolated by everybody in the clan and lives like an invisible person.

She feels very guilty about that and later she is entangled with the fact that she has to take advantage of his kindness to her.

MBC starts casting new drama Royal Family

Huh. MBC has one Wednesday-Thursday drama called My Princess coming up, and now it’s got a second Wednesday-Thursday show called Royal Family that’s in the works. Well, I suppose these things DO tend to come in pairs, for whatever inexplicable cosmic reason. (Daemul and President, What’s Up and Dream High, Cinderella Man and Style…)

In contrast to My Princess, though it appears that Royal Family won’t be about literal royalty, but a more figurative kind; the story unfolds as a woman overcomes various struggles to become a prominent chaebol. The woman is involved with a younger man whom she supports and who eventually becomes a lawyer, and the relationship turns into a “dangerous love.”

(A chaebol, as you may already know from numerous Korean dramas, particularly if you’ve seen one of the Cinderella variety, is a business tycoon who builds up a corporate dynasty of sorts, wherein successorship is kept in the family. It’s for that inherited-riches facet that second-generation chaebols — the younger generations — are a favorite type of kdrama hero.)

Cast as the male lead is Ji Sung, who most recently played the titular king of MBC’s historical drama Kim Suro, and a year before that acted in SBS’s business/revenge/thriller drama Swallow the Sun (from which the above photo comes).

Royal Family will be the drama to follow My Princess, the latter of which airs next week.

Yeom Jeong-ah, returns with "Royal Family" after 3 years since delivery.

Actress Yeom Jeong-ah is coming back after 3 years of absence.

She has been cast as the lead female role in the new MBC drama "Royal Family".

In "Royal Family" by writer Kim Yeong-hyeon who's also done MBC historical drama "Queen Seon-deok", Yeom Jeong-ah will be acting a woman who goes through hardships and rises to become the head of a conglomerate, and will present as another role model for women. Also, a man who used to support her when they were children returns as a lawyer and shares love with her. In the role of the young lawyer will be actor Ji Seong

This drama is Yeom Jeong-ah's come back project after "Working Mom" in 2008 and her first after giving birth, so she is especially prepared and determined.

The time for "Royal Family" hasn't been decided yet.

Royal Family finalizes its leads

MBC’s upcoming drama Royal Family has cast its lead actors, pairing Yeom Jung-ah (Jeon Woo Chi) with Ji Sung (Kim Suro, Swallow the Sun). The drama had previously teased the possibility of casting Lee Mi-yeon as the lead, but went with Yeom instead.

Yeom is an actress I haven’t seen much, but I think I like this casting better; she had a role in the fantasy-action flick Jeon Woo Chi and the 2008 drama Working Mom, but I remember her most strongly from the fascinating psychological thriller Tale of Two Sisters, where she was superb. (Trivia! She played Im Soo-jung’s stepmother there, then teamed with her in Jeon Woo Chi to play her rival.)

Royal Family centers around two characters: a prosecutor who grew up poor and overcame his difficult childhood, and a woman who has lived a “shadow existence” in a chaebol family, then overcomes numerous setbacks on the way to becoming the corporate head. In their earlier days, she had supported him, and after he becomes a prosecutor, the tables turn and he quietly supports her.

It sounds nothing at all like the drama it replaces, My Princess, although you can’t help but note the coincidence in their titles, which is compounded by the fact that they’ll air one right after the other. This one seems more serious than the cotton-candy (but oh-so-cute) fluffery of My Princess; it’s directed by Kim Do-hoon of the broadcast-reporter drama Spotlight (yawn) and written by a team of three, Kim Young-hyun and Park Sang-yeon of Queen Seon-deok and Kwon Eum-mi of General Hospital 2. Huh. An interesting mix, but then again, you are more than your last project, although it doesn’t always seem that way.

U-KISS’ Dongho to make drama debut through “Royal Family”

U-KISS’s Dongho has been expanding his acting career lately through two movie appearances, and he’s just added one more item to his resume. The idol was recently cast into MBC’s “Royal Family“, through which he’ll make his debut in the drama industry.

According to the drama’s production company, Dongho will be playing the role of ‘Jo Byung Jun’, the son of the two leading roles. He’s described to be a smart but cold character who becomes accepted at Harvard University. Despite his achievements, he’s a hard-headed teen who will do anything to ensure himself a brighter future, even going so far as to ask his own mother to give up her parental rights.

The drama centers around a wealthy family that owns ‘JK Group’ and the aspirations, betrayal, love and truth that surround them. Other leads include Yum Jung Ah, Cha Ye Ryun, Jun Noh Min, Gi Tae Young, and Lee Tae Young.

Looks like MBC still wants to keep the Wed-Thurs slot to be ‘royalty’ theme of the drama with scheduling the upcoming drama ‘Royal Family’ to follow the current sweet romance-comedy series ‘My Princess’.

‘Royal Family’ stars Ji Sung (Swallow the Sun), Yum Jung Ah (A Tale of Two Sister, Working Mom), and Cha Ye Ryun (Dr. Champ) who was lastly added to the lead cast.

Since the drama title begins with word of “royal”, I originally expected that we would see Ji Sung in some palace setting location once more after his last sageuk drama ‘Kim Suro’. But, it’s out of my expectation because the drama tells about chaebols being like royalty in modern day instead.

In the drama, Ji Sung’s character is described as a successful prosecutor who has been through obstacles during his poor childhood day. Yum plays the role of a woman who has lived as a “shadow” of a chaebol family, but finally she finds out her way to the top position of a large corporation. Yum’s character is also who helped Ji Sung’s character to becoming an elite prosecutor. Therefore, he now supports her silently to repay her. However, their relationship eventually turns into a “dangerous love”. Meanwhile, Cha’s character is described as fashionista careerwoman who always attracts people around her with her luxurious and colorful wardrobe.

‘Royal Family’ also starring Lee Da Hee (Air City), Ki Tae Young (Creating Destiny), Ahn Nae Sang (Sungkyunkwan Scandal), Jeon No Min (Queen Seon Duk), and U-Kiss’s Dongho, is scheduled to begin airing on March 2.

‘Royal Family’ Completes its Cast

After his last drama ‘Kim Suro’ got flopped, actor Ji Sung is ready to comeback in small-screen again with MBC’s upcoming series ‘Royal Family’. Originally, he was rumored to co-work with actress Lee Mi Yeon (Merchant Kim Man Deok), but ended to Yum Jung Ah (Jeon Woo Chi) instead. Cha Ye Ryun (Dr. Champ) has also recently added to complete the leads.

The drama will revolve around chaebol family’s lives in modern day. It will focus to two characters which are an elite prosecutor (Ji Sung) who grew up poor and overcome his hard childhood life and a woman (Yum) who has lived in ‘the shadow’ of a chaebol family, but manages through all difficulties to becoming the head of a large corporation. In the past, she had supported him till he becomes a prosecutor. Now, it’s his turn to give her a support.

Meanwhile, Cha takes the role of the granddaughter to the head of JK Group. Her character is described as a fashionista careerwoman, who always attracts people attention in luxurious and colorful attires.

In addition to the three leads, the drama has also cast Lee Da Hee (Air City), Ki Tae Young (Creating Destiny), Ahn Nae Sang (Sungkyunkwan Scandal), Jeon No Min (Queen Seon Duk), and young idol star Dongho of U-Kiss.

‘Royal Family’ will follow the current romantic-comedy ‘My Princess’ and start airing on March 2.
