Ramyun Flower Boys reunite for Virus

Aww, I loved the boys in Flower Boy Ramyun Shop so much. Any excuse to get them back together sounds great by me. It’s not the whole ramyun family, but we’ve got Lee Ki-woo(Standby) and Park Min-woo (I Need a Fairy), aka Onion and Ba-wool, back together in the new OCN contagion disaster drama The Virus, starring Eom Ki-joon. Hm, Eom Ki-joon and flower boys… suddenly catching a deadly virus doesn’t sound so bad.

The 10-episode mystery thriller stars Eom Ki-joon as the head of a special task force that comes together in the wake of a deadly mutant virus that gets unleashed into the population. Lee Ki-woo will play a scientist on the team, a viral specialist with a bit of a mysterious past. His character is described as both soft and cool-headed. If they’re casting to type, he’ll likely be the nice guy to Eom Ki-joon’s prickly leader, though we’ll have to see how the mystery aspect shakes out. Park Min-woo will play Eom Ki-joon’s right-hand man, aka Head Minion. Poor guy, I already feel sorry for him. I hope he gets to bring his teddy bear girlfriend to work with him at least.

Also joining the cast is Hyun-woo (Tree With Deep Roots, Pasta), who plays a college student shrouded in yet more mystery. I’m sensing a theme here. He holds an important key to the virus, and will be targeted by the team in a tense game of cat-and-mouse. Lee So-jung (Dream, Tazza) will play the female lead, another member of Team Virus. Her character is described as “rational and logical,” which seems redundant given that they’re all scientists. I wouldn’t put my money on any traditional romances in a series like this, though who knows… maybe OCN won’t be so stingy if the whole world is ending?

The Virus is due out in March on cable network OCN.

Lee Ki-woo plays dad in movie Bean Sprout
leekiwoo_60.jpg

With his drama now over (OCN’s The Virus), Lee Ki-woo is heading to the big screen for a new movie titled Bean Sprout, which is described as centering around a “warm fatherly love” story. Okay, you got me; these daddy-daughter bonding stories always tug those heartstrings just so.

In the movie, Lee Ki-woo plays a children’s book writer who loses his beloved wife and finds himself a single father to his daughter. Though he’s devastated by the loss and “feels like the world has ended,” he has to rally and find a way to survive for the sake of his little girl.

It sounds like a sweetly emotional human drama, and he’ll be making a 180 degree turn from his most recent role playing a genius scientist in The Virus. I do think Lee Ki-woo could use a push in venturing deeper into emotional roles, because it feels like he often holds back or resists stepping fully into the moment (though some of the blame rests in the projects themselves; I’ve seen him in a fair share of mediocre projects). That kind of acting is fine when he can get by on his charm (see: Flower Boy Ramyun Shop), but I’d love to see him getting more real and present as an actor. Not that charm is bad. Charm is good. Charm gave us sexy panda and sturdy Pillar. Just, you know, growth is good.

Bean Sprout will begin filming in June.

I like him in Flower Boy. He's so tall! I like tall. Nearly as much as I love caviar... Also, I've heard that he's dating Lee Chung Ah. Is this true? If it is, YAY! I love it when they are together. But the height compartment between the two is not balanced, but still, hope they get engaged soon and have 10 children!

Seems like Lee Ki Woo simply cannot get enough of his girlfriend Lee Chung Ah!

As a cast member of MBC’s latest drama “Miss Korea,” the handsome actor recently had an interview with the channel’s “Section TV Entertainment Relay.” When he was asked if there is any special person who he would like to have as his on-screen partner, Lee Ki Woo picked actress Lee Chung Ah, who he is currently dating, even when the cameras are not rolling. The two both acted in the hit drama “Flower Boy Ramyun Shop” back in 2011, and in April this year, they confirmed their relationship

To make the answer even cuter and cheesier, he explained, “I can only think about Lee Chung Ah,” and expressed his endless love for the beautiful actress. However, the interviewer asked him if anyone else comes into his mind, and the actor chose Jun Ji Hyun. As for the reason, he jokingly said, “I would like to take Jun Ji Hyun from our rival drama and dominate the time slot.” With this he is referring to “Man from the Stars” starring Kim Soo Hyun and Jun Ji Hyun, which airs at the same time as “Miss Korea.”

Would you like to see the two paired up for a drama again?
