Kwon Sang-woo to star in Chinese drama

06191852.jpg

Hallyu actor Kwon Sang-woo has begun filming for the Chinese drama “Poong Hwa Sul Wul.” The drama centers around a film director who falls for an actress on the set of the musical that he is directing.

Last month, Kwon announced on his official Web site that after filming in China, he would begin working on a Hollywood movie. Recently, he wrapped up filming for the movie “12 Chinese Zodiac Heads” with Hollywood actor Jackie Chan.

After completing both foreign productions, Kwon will return to play a more prominent role in the Korean entertainment scene.

In late January, he returned to Korea after seven months of working on various projects overseas.

[special Edition] Leo Kwon Sang Woo, Virgo Go Soo and Libra Cha In Pyo

‘What’s your blood type?’

This was a common question people started to ask each other when blood type personalities were big. ‘A types are small minded, B types are Casanovas, AB types are either fools or geniuses and O types are outgoing and active’.

It’s going to be tough going, however, if you’re thinking of dividing the personalities of everyone in the world into these four categories.

Another popular question that sort of makes up for the lack of diversity is ‘What’s your sign?’ It’s hard to trust the results entirely, but they’re way more specific compared to blood type personalities.

We took advantage of the reveal of tvN’s new drama Twelve Men in a Year to put together a list of stars’ relationship styles based on zodiac signs.

27996658.jpg

‘Leo’ Kwon Sang Woo, only has eyes for Son Tae Young

Leo (July 23-August 22) men are ‘men who rule the world’. They want to wield power, and they want to be treated like royalty. They enjoy giving out expensive presents, thrive in thrilling situations like dramas and like going on extravagant dates. They’re especially willing to give everything they have to the one person they’ve chosen.

Zo In Sung, Kwon Sang Woo, Yoo Seung Ho and Lee Sang Soon are Leos. When Kwon Sang Woo said he would be marrying Son Tae Young, he met with great opposition from his fans, but he didn’t seem to care for it. Although the couple was embroiled in rumors that they two weren’t getting along, Kwon Sang Woo showed his unwavering love for his wife.

Lee Sang Soon is the well-known lover of Lee Hyori. He may be shy on the outside, but he’s a musician that has great musical talent and skill, and even studied overseas in Amsterdam. Just the fact that he’s in a relationship with Lee Hyori is enough to say he’s the ruler of the world.

Although Zo In Sung and Yoo Seung Ho haven’t been involved in any such rumors yet, it’ll be fun to watch and see how they’ll go along on their love life and whether their relationship types will fit their sign.

Singer Kim Jung Min will be appearing as a Leo named Goo Young Ho in Twelve Men in a Year. He’s the CEO of Hotel J, and is involved in many scandals including those saying that he’s sponsoring a certain actress. He sports wild styles and has a simple mindset to match, and he secretly approaches Sophia (Na Miru, Yoon Jin Seo) to ask her to spend the night with him.

Kwon Sang Woo and Son Tae Young to Separate For Careers

Kwon Sang Woo and Son Tae Young make a great couple, but they will be forced to live apart for a while.

Kwon Sang Woo was cast as the lead for the Chinese drama Wind, Flower, Snow, Moon, and will soon be leaving for Beijing for the shoot.

An official from Wind, Flower, Snow, Moon said, “Kwon Sang Woo will have to stay for at least three months in China to concentrate on the shoot. Although he must leave behind his wife Son Tae Young and his son Luke, he chose to fly to China because of his will to continue acting.”

36346842.jpg

Kwon Sang Woo made his way into a Chinese film before he was cast for Wind, Flower, Snow, Moon.

He started shooting Armour of God 3 with Jackie Chan in Fall 2011, and wrapped up in early March this year.

Because he will again be starring in a Chinese piece, he will be staying in China for a total of at least six months.

A source from Kwon Sang Woo’s management said, “Jackie Chan thought highly of Kwon Sang Woo, who is skilled in martial arts. [Kwon Sang Woo] showed great teamwork with Jackie Chan, and I believe they’re putting together a project to venture to America. Kwon Sang Woo’s acting and popularity, which were somewhat devalued in Korea, are shining in overseas projects.”

Son Tae Young showed her support for Kwon Sang Woo whenever he returned to Korea on the weekends, but she soon plans to pick up where she left off on her career in April.

Son Tae Young’s contract with Bel Actors, where she had been signed with Kwon Sang Woo, recently expired, and she signed a new contract with J One Plus Entertainment, which also houses Han Ga In, Hwang Woo Seul Hye, Kim Nam Jin and Moon Jeong Hee.

As Han Ga In became such a success after her marriage with Yeon Jeong Hun as an actress after she joined J One Plus, Son Tae Young’s comeback is also gathering much interest in whether hers will follow the course of Han Ga In’s.

Han Ga In succeeded in escaping from the ‘married woman’ stereotype with the help of J One Plus, and was acknowledged for her roles in dramas such as The Sun and the Moon and Bad Guy, and films such as Architecture 101.

A rep from J One Plus said, “As much as Son Tae Young is determined to return as an actress, we plan to support her with all our resources for her career. She’s looking over many different pieces in film and drama.”

Son Tae Young went on a hiatus after her appearance in the SBS drama Two Wives in 2009.

Will Kwon Sang Woo and Soo Ae appear in the same drama series?

2012043010201919376_1.jpg

Kwon Sang Woo and Soo Ae are expected to appear in the same drama for the first time.

On April 30, spokespersons for both actors said Kwon and Soo Ae are currently considering to appear in the drama series The King of The Beast, which is originally written by painter Park In Kwon who is known for Daemul and War of Money. They’re offer to play the leading roles of Choi Kang Chan and Yoon Nari, respectively.

The King of The Beast is the third part of the Daemul series. This will be the second time Kwon appearing in the Daemul series if he takes the offer.

A spokesperson for Soo Ae says, “Soo Ae was offered to appear in the series, but she hasn’t made a decision yet.” A spokesperson for Kwon also says, “Kwon Sang Woo was offered to appear in the series and is considering it now. But we’ll have to see because the series is not completely scheduled yet.”

Soo Ae played the leading role who suffers from Alzheimer’s in the drama series A Thousand Days’ Promise. She will soon start shooting movie Cold with Jang Hyuk early in May.

Kwon appeared in Hollywood movie 12 Chinese Zodiac Head and Chinese movie Repeat, I Love You. If he appears in the drama series, it will be his first drama series in two years after Daemul in 2010.

*** Now this I’m really excited about watching - a decent pairing…..Well, these two can definitely pull off a melodrama big time! Anything KSW is a win for me! I missed KSW doing a K-drama this time…it’s been a while since Daemul. This drama was a very good political series. I definitely approve of this pairing! I like Su Ae. I find her really great. I like everything I’ve seen her in, some might not be the best but she is.Oh…KSW……how I’ve missed seeing his handsome face.

Kwon Sang-woo and Su Ae back to dramaland?

by girlfriday | April 30, 2012

KwonSangWoo_SuAe1.jpg

There’s a new drama pairing afoot: Kwon Sang-woo (Pain, Daemul) and Su Ae (Thousand Day Promise) are in talks to possibly star in the new manhwa-to-drama adaptation from Daemul writer Park In-kwon. This series is called Yawang or Queen of Ambition, which is a best approximation in translating the title, a play on “queen” and “ambition.”

It’s about a woman who’s so dirt-poor that she doesn’t even have the means to properly bury her mother, but she pulls herself out of poverty and starts to dream big, deciding one day that she’s going to become the First Lady. The character is described as chock-full of ambition, a woman who will use any means to get what she wants. She sounds as scary as she is impressive. The story isn’t surprising, coming from the creator of Daemul, about the first female president of Korea.

The hero is a nice guy, an innocent man who loves the heroine and will do anything for her. Anything like become the president? Or anything like get his nice guy bum trampled on, while she marries the guy who’s going to be the president? There are two VERY different ways this could go for you, Mr. Nice Guy.

The drama is being produced by Verdi Media, and the screenplay will be adapted by writer Choi Ran (of Iljimae, the Lee Jun-ki version). Yawang hopes to broadcast later this year, and meanwhile Su Ae will be shooting her film with Jang Hyuk, and Kwon Sang-woo his film with Jackie Chan. Busy busy.

Kwon Sang-woo, Cecilia Cheung's pic "Shadows of Love" to open in China this week

2012051009551258971_1.jpg

Kwon Sang-woo and Cecilia Cheung's romance film "Shadows of Love" is slated to open nationwide in China this week.

The upcoming pic will hit over 4,000 theaters in China tomorrow, Kwon's agency Bel Actors Entertainment told 10Asia on Thursday.

This will mark Kwon's first project in China in 11 years of his acting career, while he has other ongoing works such as meeting with his fans in the near future.

In the soon-to-be-released flick, Cheung plays a double role of a florist and a cocky 'fu er dai,' meaning 'a child from a rich family' or 'second-generation rich.'

Going back and forth between playing the two characters, she tries to flirt with Kwon's character while he agonizes between the two women to choose the girl of his life.

In early March, Bel Actors told 10Asia that the actor had wrapped up shooting Chinese film "12 Chinese Zodiac Heads" with Jackie Chan, which will open worldwide this December.

Becoming more active with his activities in China, he has also decided to star in a Chinese drama titled "Poong Hwa Sul Wul" (Romanized Chinese title).

Though details of his future plans have yet to be announced, the agency confirmed that he is currently eyeing a few Hollywood action films to make his official debut with.

Kwon Sang Woo to attend the ‘Cannes Film Festival’ with Jackie Chan

2012051111390424417_1.jpg

On May 16th, actor Kwon Sang Woo will be attending the 65th ‘Cannes Film Festival‘ for the very first time.

He’ll be participating alongside co-star Jackie Chan in promotion for their film, ‘12 Chinese Zodiac Heads‘. Filming for the movie took place in China, Taiwan, and Europe. ’12 Chinese Zodiac Heads’ is reported to be special to Kwon Sang Woo in particular because he had to have stem cell surgery for his knee due to an injury he suffered during shooting for the film.

Director Heo Jin Ho is also a figure of interest as he’ll be attending the festival for his Chinese film, ‘Dangerous Liaisons‘. Considering that both Korean stars are headed to the Cannes for Chinese films, Korea’s advancement into the Chinese film industry is showing signs of being a feasible effort.
