Kang Dong Won is looking young and cute as he is years ago. *sigh* why is the man so freakingly handsome??!! More than that, he is a consummate actor who loves to challenge himself. 

 

Black Priest's trailer is yet another dark and intriguing film. Hidden Time is mysteriously appealing. just reading the synopsis...what more into live action with none other than KDW.  

And there's A Violent Prosecutor too! a couple of picture alone generates high anticipation. This actor is very passionate in his craft, totally on a roll this year. and I like it a lot. *finger guns*

GANG Dong-won Begins HIDDEN TIME Shoot

New Mystery-Thriller from Director UM Tae-hwa

Actor GANG Dong-won has begun principal photography on new mystery-thriller Hidden Time (translated title), the sophomore work of director UM Tae-hwa. The project started its shoot in Namhae in Gyeongsangnam Province and will be distributed by Showbox Inc. at some point next year.  

In the film, some children take a trip to the mountains, but the only person to return is a young girl Soo-rin. However, a few days later, her friend Sung-min reappears, but the 13-year-old boy has turned into an adult.  

GANG will play the mysteriously grown up Sung-min, while The Throne actor LEE Hyo-je will play the younger character and new actress SIN Eun-su, who was cast following auditions with 300 applicants, is on board to play Soo-rin.  

Popular star GANG most recently appeared in last year’s period-action film KUNDO: Age of the Rampant and the melodrama My Brilliant Life, after completing his obligatory military service, while he will next be seen in the exorcism thriller The Priests, co-starring KIM Yun-seok and out on November 5th, and next year’s thriller A Violent Prosecutor, alongside HWANG Jung-min.

  Writer-director UM debuted in 2013 with INGtoogi: The Battle of Internet Trolls, which he directed at the Korean Academy of Film Arts.

Kang Dong-won plays deacon Choi, a seminary student in "The Priests" and he helps Father Kim save a girl in danger.

The genre has never been seen in Korean movies before and Kang Dong-won's emotional performance and good looks stand out once again.

The stills of Kang Dong-won show him deep in complicated thoughts as he was chosen to be Father Kim's deacon which everyone avoids.

In the still of him under the umbrella, his expressions shows that he doesn't understand what he's doing even as he fulfills the missions that he's been given.

What made Kim Yun-seok & Kang Dong-won decide to star in The Priests?

KYS: Everyone was concerned and worried as the thriller genre was not popular at all except for a small number of mania fans, but I had great results with “The Chaser,” so thriller genres became extremely popular and are still trendy, so if a superb mystery production is made, then this genre could aid in the diversity of our film and I think that’s a forte.

KDW: Compared to my past characters, my character isn’t special, but I felt that the film itself was very special.

What are Kim Yun-seok’s honest thoughts about his role as a priest?

KYS: Many have a strong impression of me though “Hwanghae,” “Tazza: The High Rollers” and others, but I like cooking at home and am a very kind person. I act as a clergyman for this role and honestly, it’s a character which suits my actual self.

Kang Dong-won’s acting as a Catholic priest for the first time

Acts as ‘Deacon Choi,’ a troublemaker  

KDW: In this film, ‘Deacon Choi’ is very fluent in German, Latin and Chinese. I was surprised and wondered how a person can be fluent in many different languages, so I asked a Catholic priest and he said they memorize all of it. He said he learned German and learned 7 different languages, so, he said that was really difficult.

MC: So, you had to study hard as well.

KDW: I had to do my best after hearing that.

Both of them look gorgeous in cassocks!

KYS: I felt I should use refined language. Once I wore the cassock, so I used proper language and when you see my posture, I couldn’t cross my legs but kept them closed, I’m not lying but once you wear it,

KDW: I wanted to wear the cassock at least once as an actor, and honestly, I didn’t know the ladies like the cassock so much.

MC: How did they react when you wore it?

KDW: I think they really liked it.

The two studied & did their best to fully understand their roles as priests

KYS: The role of a priest wasn’t easy, Catholicism has a long and great history, and is a story about Catholic believers, so the role of a priest isn’t easy and it shows rich acting as it’s difficult, so the two of us prepared a lot through our close acquaintances. We prepared the information and knowledge, but we always needed to prepare our minds and hearts.

KDW: I stayed in Gangwon-do Province for about 5 days and talked a lot with the priests. Through that, I felt the burden that I should not but I did my best to deliver it to the audience in a light and fun way.

KYS & KDW are acting again after JWC. The two have a special relationship!

What kind of feelings do they have for one another?

KYS: He’s very manly and…an easygoing person, so I felt comfortable with him right from the get-go.

MC:  Weren’t you shocked by his looks at first?

KYS: I’m not a woman. The ladies might not understand it, but men don’t feel that way when they look at other men.

MC: Well, I don’t feel shocked when I see actresses.

KDW: In the past, I wasn’t the kind who would hang out with other actors and have fun together. After that time, I got to enjoy drinking alcohol. The person who continued on after me was actor Song Kang-ho.

MC: Song Kang=ho…

KYS: Through the movie “Secret Reunion.” That’s when he let his guard down.

MC: He let his guard down! Then, is it true that actors KYS and SKH changed you?

KDW: Yes, well, that’s very true.

What are some attractive factors of this film?

KYS: We’re dressed in cassocks, but in a way, this production suits the genre of a mystery thriller, or a mystery investigation or a investigation genre. We continuously chase after something and many twists take place, and there are many car chase and action scences, and the two of us greeted everyone, but rising actress Park So-dam adds spice to this film.

KDW: So, you can definitely have high expectation for this movie. I think this film is one where we unreal a new theme in a familiar manner, so I’m sure it will be enjoyable for everyone. Please look forward to this film. Thank you!

"The Priests" starring Kim Yoon-seok and Kang Dong-won is a movie with a new element and genre.

- A new subject from an ordinary day

"The Priests" is the story of two priests who fight against a mysterious case to save a girl in danger. Producer Jang Jae-hyeon said, "I got a weird feeling when I saw a priests waiting anxiously for someone on the other side of a fast food restaurant window. "The Priests" started then".

The story came one ordinary day and tells us that there are priests who carry out special cases amongst us. Jang Jae-hyeon wrote and directed the screenplay himself and he made sure to investigate the subject of the movie thoroughly before the making and filmed the movie in familiar places.

- The mystery drama full of intensity

"The Priests" has appealing characters and mystery in unforeseen circumstances. Based on the definite belief that there is only one way to save the girl who shows mysterious symptoms that are unexplainable logically or scientifically, Father Kim and Deacon Choi prepare a ceremony. This ceremony can be said to be the point of the drama as they have to protect and save as well as fight against the girl.

Father Kim is a troublesome character who is an outsider of his brotherhood and Deacon Choi is a rule breaker who cheats and drinks, breaking all the rules. In the process of saving the little girl, the two change and form a bond between the two.

Father Kim is rough but humane as he ignores all opposition in his decision to help the girl. Deacon Choi is playful and cute but full of fear and suspicion. They are complete opposites to the exemplary priests.

Jang Jae-hyeon said, "If Father Kim is a middle aged tiger, Choi is like Simba, a little cub who is just turning into a grown up".

Kang Dong-won ‘will forever be an actor’

“The Priest” star Kang Dong-won will forever stay an actor, he said in an interview with a local news outlet Monday.

“Even if I ever quit acting, everyone will still remember my face,” he said, hinting that a life other than that of an actor would be impossible for him.

Kang, 35, said, like it or not, his age was slowly taking a toll on him.

“During the shoot for ‘KUNDO: Age of the Rampant,’ director Yoon Jong-bin offered me restorative medicine. I work out to keep myself fit, but when I do get sick I like to have some chicken soup for comfort food. I think samgyetang suits me.”

Samgyetang is a traditional Korean dish made with chicken, ginseng and rice.

 

His latest silver screen work was a totally new genre of exorcism, “I hope movies like ‘The Priest’ will succeed in the Korean market. And then I will move on to challenge a different genre. Unless a movie has a perfect scenario or an improved plotline I’m not interested in doing the same genre twice,” Kang said.

The seasoned actor with 12 years of experience and 21 productions -- movies and TV dramas combined -- finished the interview saying, “If I’m suddenly nowhere to be found, it would mean I’m working on my next job.”

“The Priest” will be released Nov. 5.
