prissymom
how do i say "ang arte mo" or "maarte" in english? OA=overacting or drama queen brown - kayumangi the correct spelling is "kayumanggi" also for the KUBETA issue, CR is not Tagalog lol. Paligkuran can be used you know. "Palikuran" is the correct word and not "Paligkuran". You can also use "banyo" but the origin of this word is the Spanish "bano" which means "the bath" in English. i'm a filipino and i'm fluent but i can't find the english word of "batukan" waahaha. is it ''hit the nape''? LOL. no direct English translation for "batukan", it is generally used to mean "I will hit you" or "I am going to hit you". i have always wondered about how to say this phrase properly in english, please help? how do u say "bababa na po ako dito" "I am getting off here" or "Please let me off here" o "dito nalang po" "I am getting off here" and "malapit na akong bumaba" "I am getting off soon" or "sa kabilang kanto na ako bababa" "I am getting off at the next crner" bakit sometimes lagi kong iniisip na yung mga tao ay laging hindi ako gusto? o siguro iniisip ko lang yun? hmm + hmm ano ang iniisip ko? wala lang, nasa sala kasami si James Diezel Mahan at Jay Dukes What do those mean? Thanks! your first sentence is confusing because "lagi" means "always", so it contradicts the word before it "sometimes". If I translate your sentence it will come out like this "Why do I sometimes always think that people don't like me?" Confusing, right? Either remove "sometimes" - "Why do I always (lagi) think that people don't like me" Or remove "lagi" - "Why do I sometimes think that people don't like me?" O Siguro iniisip ko lang yun? - Or do I just think that? Ano ang iniisip ko? - What am I thinking? Wala lang - nothing nasa sala kami kasama si James Diezel Mahan at Jay Dukes - We are in the living room with James Diezela and Jay Dukes. I have a bit of a useless question - I'm currently trying to learn Tagalog, and I've learned the basics like "kamustang", the correct spelling is "kumusta". "Kumusta" is "how are you?" in English. "Kumusta" came from the Spanish phrase "Como esta?" (How are you? in English). Filipinos contracted the Spanish phrase "Como esta?" to "Kumusta". "bakit" WHY? and the not-so-desirable like "unggoy" MONKEY, "utot" FART and all (mostly slang, as you can clearly tell) but I'm having a bit of a problem with the "~lang". Most of my Pinoy friends use it as a sound eg. "Wait lang" or so, but is there a case where you can't use it? I think I can't use it eg. "It's okay lang" or something. Actually, you don't have to add "lang" if you don't want to use it. There is no rule that says that you have to use it. Completely useless question, I know. Salamat po! Also, how do you say "Excuse me/Sorry" eg. when you bump into people? The last time I went to Philippines it was really hard to communicate or catch the attention of (mostly) the elderly because they didn't think I was talking to them, so I think it would be apt to learn how to say "Excuse me" to capture their attention. EXCUSE ME = pasintabi po, but normally we just use excuse me. "Sorry" = paumanhin, but we normally use sorry . But if your objective really is to catch the attention of an older person you can address them using their names with the appropriate titles. Example you want to talk to an older female by the name of Kristina. If she is really old, you can address her "Lola Kristina". If she is about the same age as your mom, you can address her as "Tita Kristina". To address a very old male by the name of Victor, use "Lolo Victor". If the male is the same age as your father, address him "Tito Victor". Also, don't forget to add "po" to your sentences when addressing an older person. "Po" is added to show respect to the older person.

prissymom
can anyone tell me how translate this tagalog question in english?? yung sound system ay sabog yung sounds.. please do tell me if this isn't allowed.. the direct translation of the word "sabog" is "explode". So if we translate the sentence directly to English it will come out like this "The sound from the sound system explodes". The direct translation doesn't sound good, right? You can use this translation instead "The sound system doesn't sound so good" or "The sound from the sound system doesn't come out well". But these 2 translations seems a bit redundant with the repetitive use of the word "sound". This would be a better translation: "The sound system is not working well"

Guest greentambourine1
I think Tagalog's cool. ^^ I only know six or so Filipinos/as personally, though. Those're some good phrases to start with. Salamat! I have a question. So, Filipino is a language, right, but Filipino does not = Tagalog? Are they similar? Do people usually speak Filipino now or do most people just know it and speak Tagalog and other dialects most of the time? And are Tagalog and Bisaya mutually intelligible? Thanks to anyone who answers. hi, Filipino is what you called the person living in the Philippines, and Tagalog is their dialect... That was based on my research.. and from my Filipino friend too.. they are such good kind of person, caring, hospitable and intelligent...
