[Sports Seoul Reporter Cho Hyun-jung] The Korea Entertainment Management Association is promoting the Non Fungible Token (NFT) business, which utilizes the portrait rights of Korean stars such as actors and idols for the first time in Korea .

Weplay, a Korean subsidiary of the Korea Entertainment Management Association (Yeonmaekiop) and MCI Foundation, a creator growth support platform, announced on the 20th that "We have signed a business agreement to promote the NFT card business entertainment business using celebrity portrait rights."

The MCI Foundation aims to protect the portrait rights of celebrities and launch Star NFT to provide profitable benefits to artists and agencies.

In accordance with the agreement concluded on this day, the MCI Foundation develops NFT cards and platforms using celebrity portrait rights, and the Yonsei Association provides business linkage for participation of member companies and affiliated artists so that the rights and interests of artists (popular culture artists) can be protected and provided. We actively encourage them.

There are 300 management companies as members of the Yonsei Association, and about 3,000 actors belong to the member companies.

NFT, which means non-replaceable token, has a scarcity as an irreplaceable asset by recording the buyer's name, purchase time, and price in the token. Currently, in the United States, digital art is showing a trend, and it is rapidly expanding the area of application to various fields of content, such as being applied to singers' sound sources.

The Yonsei Association said, "The Star NFT business is a breakthrough that can raise the Korean entertainment business to the next level in that artists and management companies can provide fan service to fans around the world without jet lag, and profits can be used again for the development of Korean pop culture. It will work," he expected.

In addition, when a star NFT is sold, a certain amount of profit is passed to the artist and the agency, and if a fan holding the NFT later sells the NFT at a higher value to a third party, part of the profit goes back to the artist and the agency.

Already in Korea, NFT-related businesses are growing rapidly in the domestic content industry as well as overseas in 2021, with Seoul Auction and others starting NFT projects for art works.

It is expected that the NFT specialized for artists will create a new Korean Wave in the global NFT market through a business agreement between MCI and the annual sales agreement.

• Korean actress Park Shin-hye turns 30 today, with a newly-released K-drama titled Sisyphus: The Myth that was released yesterday. The mystery, fantasy, drama series sees Park Shin-hye in probably one of her most challenging roles to date. 

   

  Her character Gang Seo-hae is a brave, elite warrior from the future Korea that's in ruins in 2035; she travels back in time and saves genius engineer Han Tae-seul (Cho Seung-woo) who's on a quest to find out the truth behind his older brother's death.  

   

  Sisyphus: The Myth is one of the most anticipated dramas this 2021, and judging from its pilot episode, it looks a lot like it won't disappoint. After all, it stars Park Shin-hye, who's known for her versatility. Albeit not romantic in the most ideal sense or typical scenario (or maybe it would surprise us?),  her on-screen chemistry with Cho Seung-woo is expected to impress in this unique and action-packed series.

   

  It was in 2019 when Park Shin-hye was last seen in a K-drama via Memories of the Alhambra. Last year, she took a break from small screen projects to work on two movies, #Alive and The Call.

In a recent Instagram Story post Park Shin-hye uploaded a picture of Lee Dong-hwi at a car wash. The caption on the post reads, asking why we're meeting here local citizen, hahaha. Afterwards, Lee Dong-hwi made a similar Instagram Story post of Park Shin-hye's picture. It was not immediately clear whether they had met one another at the same car wash. The post in question appeared to be some sort of inside hoke.

 

Park Shin-hye and Lee Dong-hwi know each other from their collaboration in the Netflix film "The Call" where Park Shin-hye played a woman with access to a mysterious phone and Lee Dong-hwi played a neighborhood policeman. Since then, Park Shin-hye appeared as the lead in the science fiction drama "Sisyphus: The Myth" while Lee Dong-hwi appears in "New Year Blues" as a touring agent about to be married to a Chinese woman. Neither actor has a confirmed upcoming project.

Sisyphus – The Myth

How far are you willing to go to fix something that you regret doing in the past? This is the question that drives most of the characters in Sisyphus – The Myth, the latest Korean drama currently streaming on Netflix. Sisyphus, the king of Corinth (aka Ephyra) was punished for cheating death twice by being forced to roll a large boulder up a hill for eternity.

 

Since the boulder was enchanted, it would roll down just before he reached the top, forcing him to roll it back up again, making the punishment unending.

This is exactly what happens in Sisyphus – The Myth, after a nuclear war destroys the normal way of life in the Korean peninsula, and an uploader gives people the ability to travel back in time.

 

Though everyone knows exactly what happens, they still take the opportunity to travel back in time, to fix a few things they regret doing in their past, with the hope that they can alter the future. What they do not realize is that the future is already set.

 

For Kang Seo-hae (Park Shin-hye), the reason for traveling back in time is different. Having lived in a bunker with her father for fourteen years, she decides to travel back in time, with the hope of stopping the war from happening and in the process saving her mother from dying.

 

Thanks to a message she leaves to herself in her journal, she knows exactly what she is supposed to do in order to save the world.

All she has to do is find Han Tae-sul (Cho Seung-woo), and stop him from developing the uploader, while protecting him from the people trying to kill him. However, traveling through time and changing something that has already happened is easier said than done. After all the future has already happened, but they just don’t know it yet. So try as they might, the events that are supposed to happen will anyway happen.

 

What makes Sisyphus worth a watch is the screenplay and brilliant performances by the entire cast.

There are many interesting characters in Sisyphus, and I really loved how each character fit into the narrative.

 

They all have a reason to want to travel back in time, despite knowing that the chances of survival are only five percent. Their regrets are such that they are willing to risk their lives with the hope of fixing their past, however Sisyphean it might be.

Of the many characters the ones that leave a lasting impression are Park Heong-do (Sung Dong-il) as a convenience store owner / broker dedicated to helping time-travelers, Choi Hae-sun (Chae Jong-hyup) as the restaurant worker who helps Seo-hae when she first arrives and shows up whenever she is in need, Jung Hyun-gi (Go Yoon) as the former cop and new Control Bureau agent who wants to kill Seo-hae because he believes she killed his mother, and Sigma / Seo Won-ju (Kim Byung-chul) as the mysterious person who starts the war and is responsible for everything that is happening.

While these actors do leave a lasting impression with their performances, the actor that stole the show for me personally was the boy that played the younger version of Seo Won-ju. He was just brilliant.

 

So, if you are in the mood for a sci-fi, dystopian, time-travel, kind of action drama that makes you reflect on your own life, or if you just want to see the amazing Park Shin-hye in action, then definitely give Sisyphus – The Myth on Netflix a try
