[2024/07/31 | KOFIC Magazine] Hive Media Corp CEO Kim Won-guk mentioned that OTT drama <Made In Korea> will film in Japan and Thailand in his interview.

IMG-3952.jpg

Hive Media Corp., the production company that played a savior to the Korean film industry with the 10 million-viewer film <Seoul's Spring> in 2023, will inject fresh genre into theaters with the occult comedy <Handsome Guys> in the summer of 2024. <Handsome Guys>, which seemed to be somewhat weaker than the Korean films released at the same time this summer, is continuing to break even (1.1 million). Although the scale is different from <Seoul's Spring>, this is the moment when Hive Media Corp.'s attempt is once again recognized by the audience. Hive Media Corp., which has been considered one of the production companies with the most prolific production capacity in the Korean film industry over the past two to three years, is also worth paying attention to in the second half of this year. With interest in modern and contemporary Korean history growing after <Seoul's Spring>, CEO Kim Won-guk's modern and contemporary history projects are in full swing. They are also considering releasing several films, including the highly anticipated <Harbin>, by the end of the year. We asked CEO Won-Guk Kim, who could be called a Korean 'modern and contemporary history nerd', about Hive Media Corp's vast and persistent present and future.   […]

<Made In Korea>

Q: It seems like there are many overseas locations for your works, such as <Deliver Us From Evil> and <Tropical Nights>, which were filmed in Bangkok again. Are you also thinking about overseas co-productions?
A: Director Woo Min-ho's series <Made in Korea>, which is currently being prepared, will also be filmed in Japan and Thailand. There are also plans to film overseas as a melodrama. It is because of the background required for the film. We are preparing a lot for overseas co-productions. We are preparing to do them in the US and Asia respectively. From our perspective, we feel the need for overseas co-productions in terms of the expansion of intellectual property rights (IP) and the globalization of IP. First of all, we are checking whether our plans can be applied overseas. There is also the reason that it is much better in terms of profitability to do a joint production rather than just selling the remake rights of our IP. Thinking about it now, it would be difficult to remake <Spring in Seoul> because of the historical background, but <The Man Standing Next> seems possible. Couldn't it be remade as a movie that depicts the conflict between Number 1 and Number 2, or the conflict that arises when Number 1 has multiple Number 2s? Of course, the details would probably change a lot. An easier way would be a remake of a horror comedy like Handsome Guys. That's just an example, but they're actually trying to make an American version of The Insider.
