Kwon Hyun Bin and Song Ji Woo will be starring in the upcoming drama “Love’s Andante” (literal title)!

Set in the DMZ area of Goseong, Gangwon Province, “Love’s Andante” is a romantic comedy that revolves around a fictional peace village where people from North and South Korea live together for a year with their stories interconnected through music.

Kwon Hyun Bin will take on the role of Im Joo Hyung, a genius pianist known for his exceptional talent and striking looks who is also the first Korean to win first place in an International competition. Seeking an escape from his hectic tour schedule, he enters the peace village and unexpectedly starts living together with Ha Na Kyung (Song Ji Woo), who is from North Korea.

Song Ji Woo will portray Ha Na Kyung, the daughter of a high-ranking North Korean official and a renowned pharmacist. Ha Na Kyung approaches life with a pragmatic and realistic outlook and has only learned about love through books. However, her life embarks on a transformative journey when she encounters the world-renowned pianist Im Joo Hyung.

Kwon Hyun Bin and Song Ji Woo to act as South and North Korean Lovers in a new K-drama

Kwon Hyun Bin and rising actress Song Ji Woo will be added to the cast of the upcoming K-drama Andante of Love.

On September 14, it was officially confirmed that Kwon Hyun Bin and Song Ji Woo would be joining Hwang Seung Eon, 2 AM's Im Seul Ong, Oh Ha Nee, and Tak I On in the upcoming fantasy romance K-drama Andante of Love.

Andante of Love will be helmed by director Min Doo Shik (My Only Love Song, Click Your Heart, and Jungle Fish 2) and writer Kim Yu Na. 

The upcoming K-drama is set in the background of South and North Korea creating a Peace Village Project in the DMZ area after the war has ended. In the series, South and North Korea officially ended the Korean War after 70 years. In the series, South and North Korean people will live together in one village for a year. 

Kwon Hyun Bin will play the role of Lim Joo Hyung, a world-renowned pianist. The actor shared that after receiving the script for the upcoming series, he fell in love with the character that was offered to him. He also shared that he wanted to be part of the K-drama because of its touching story. 

Song Ji Woo on the other hand will play the role of Hana Kyung. She is a doctor of pharmacy and an elite daughter of a North Korean official. Contrary to her appearance, she is rational and realistic. The actress also expressed her confidence in playing the role of Hana Kyung. According to Song Ji Woo, she could do well with the character because it has a lot of similarities to her personality.

Andante of Love will begin filming in the middle of September. It will premiere on SBS Film and it will air in the second half of 2023.

 

This will be the second K-drama of Kwon Hyun Bin for 2023. The actor also appeared in the series Pandora: Beneath the Paradise as Cha Pil Seung. He will also join the upcoming K-drama 4 Minutes 44 Seconds. 

Meanwhile, this will be the fourth K-drama of Song Ji Woo for the year. She recently appeared on the Netflix original K-drama A Time Called You. She also participated in the series The Glory Part 2 and Love to Hate You.

‘Andante of Love’ released simultaneously in 88 countries around the world

 

 

'Andante of Love' starring Kwon Hyun-bin and Song Ji-woo will be broadcast simultaneously overseas. A&E Korea announced on July 10 that the original drama ‘Andante of Love’ (written by Yuna Kim/directed by Ryuhae Yoon) will be released simultaneously in 88 countries around the world.

 

‘Andante of Love’ will be released exclusively and for the first time on TV in Korea on the Lifetime channel starting August 7, and will be released through TVING the following day. Overseas, it will be exclusively serviced in North America, Central and South America, Europe, and Oceania through Wave America, and in Japan through KNTV in Japan.

 

Andante of Love’ is a romantic comedy depicting the heartbreaking encounter between a North and South Korean woman who defies inevitable fate. As K content is sweeping the world, the unique setting that can only be found in Korea, the world's only divided country, combined with the romantic narrative of a love that defies the fate of South and North Korea, resulted in pre-sales in 88 countries around the world. Setting the wheels into motion for our co-habitation rom-com across the North-South boundary in a fictional Korea, a new teaser has dropped for Lifetime’s upcoming Love Andante, bringing Kwon Hyun-bin (Pandora: Beneath the Paradise) and Song Ji-woo (Dreaming of a Freaking Fairytale) together under one roof.

Billed as a fantasy, the drama imagines a new initiative between North and South Korea, taking steps towards reunification by building a joint community – aptly named Peace Village – where both northerners and southerners can reside.

This is where our teaser begins and we congratulate the (fictionally) historical moment as Peace Village is officially unveiled. We can imagine the scale of importance in such an event and the diligence required to ensure smooth sailing. In dramaland, though, this means shenanigans because our story’s Smart AI system has made an error.

 

 

You see, Seoul’s number one pianist Im Joo-hyung (Kwon Hyun-bin) was registered to live in Peace Village. But it seems the same home was also assigned to Pyungyang’s Ha Na-kyung (Song Ji-woo), a representative of North Korea with a doctorate of pharmacy and the only daughter to their head of national security. After a startling meet-scare for our main pair, Peace Village’s organizers are so very sorry to inform them that there are no other vacancies left.

Thus begins their reluctant co-living, clashing on matters from food to culture. For now, I’ll give Joo-hyung the benefit of the doubt and assume that a misreading of the latter in regards to romance and green lights is what earns him the slap. As the sequence continues, we are assured that feelings are growing for both of our leads and the teaser closes on our hero’s voiceover, narrating the start of their Fairy and Woodcutter romance (a Korean folktale) in Peace Village.

Directed by PD Yoon Ryu-hae with scripts by Kim Yeon-ah, Lifetime’s debut drama Love Andante is premiering this week on August 7 and will be releasing internationally on Kocowa in select regions.

Premiere Watch: Love Andante

Reasons to watch: We’ve got another new streamer on our hands! Lifetime is set to release its debut original drama Love Andante, and I do declare they need to get better at their press because there hasn’t been a whole lot to go on with this one. What we do know is that the drama sounds like a delightful (low budget?) trope sandwich as a fantasy rom-com featuring opposites attract, forced cohabitation, fish-out-of-water hijinks, and more. Newbies Kwon Hyun-bin and Song Ji-woo are our OTP — one from South Korea, one from North Korea, and both now living in the “Peace Village” that’s newly established. This has “I need drama candy binge fest” written all over it.

TL;DR: Wants to be CLOY junior, but is probably going to be more like that webdrama you watched at 3am and still can’t remember the name of.

Love Andante: Episode 1 (First Impressions)

One can compare Lifetime’s debut drama Love Andante to a Lifetime Original Movie here in the U.S. having a baby with Crash Landing on You. And this mutant baby drama uses the promise of Korean unification to provide grounding for a fluffy, tropey, and rather lame drama. But isn’t that just what I wanted?

EPISODE 1

 

I find myself saying this a lot, but a drama’s opening credits are usually a nice clue into what they’re aiming for. It helps me set my expectations correctly. So, the ultra slo-mo intro with our characters staring dreamily at each other while playing their instruments on the beach — that was a pretty accurate sign of the drama we are going to get. Some will roll their eyes. Others will lap it up. As for me, it was somewhere in between.

In order to illustrate the importance of the drama’s setting (the path to reunification), we spend a lot of the drama’s opening with news anchors telling us all about the Peace Village Project. Then, we meet the two comic relief bureaucrats running said village. One is from the north, one from the south, and they are a ridiculous and intentionally comedic pair that smack of comedy duos from the olden days of Hollywood. Their interactions are funny, but mostly their comedy is so overplayed that it’s no longer funny by the end of each scene.

 

But what is this Peace Village Project, you ask? Well, both the north and the south have agreed to this unification test environment where citizens of both Koreas will peacefully cohabitate for one year. And apparently, this random selection of citizens will tell us/them/everyone whether reunification is truly possible, because everything hinges on the village’s success.

Strangely enough, the news anchor tells us that the inhabitants have been “AI selected.” You would think that means there is a nice selection of everyday people — alas no. From what we see of the inhabitants in Episode 1, the average age is 25, and the average beauty factor is 10/10. Well, expect the northerners are given a more rugged and country look, but this portrayal is an old can of worms for another day, folks.

(It’s also worth noting that the village is rather pathetic — it looks like a cross between the cabin-filled fenced-in summer camp your parents forced you to go to, and an army barracks with a little extra color. Is this intentional or because the drama clearly has a midge-sized budget? I’m not sure.)

 

Now that we know how crucial this village is, we meet our villagers. The first of note is our hero, the famous and highly annoying pianist IM JOO-HYUNG (Kwon Hyun-bin). His manager’s line upon their arrival tells us everything we need to know: “Are you going to be okay here? Just about everything bothers you.” Indeed, ’tis true, and Joo-hyung is our typical pissy hero who travels with giant framed photos of himself and demands the world meet his every whim. He also travels with a piano (a really crap one for a world class pianist, but we’ll ignore that too), and this will likely become important later, because it looks like music = love in the world of Love Andante.

There are a handful of other South Koreans that move into the village with him, but what we are really waiting for is the bus that’s coming from the north. It breaks down, of course, so our comrades must walk their way to the Peace Village. Notably, this includes our spoiled ice princess HA NA-KYUNG (Song Ji-woo) — the only glamorous one in the lot. She walks all the way in her heels and trench coat.
