Lee Je Hoon will soon be starring in an exciting new drama!

On April 24, MBC officially announced that Lee Je Hoon was confirmed to star in its upcoming drama “Chief Inspector 1963” (working title).

“Chief Inspector 1963” will serve as a prequel to the classic Korean series “Chief Inspector,” which ran for 18 years from 1971 to 1989 and achieved an incredible peak of 70 percent ratings back in its heyday. While the original show was set in the 1970s and 1980s (present day at the time), “Chief Inspector 1963” will be set even earlier, in the 1960s.

Lee Je Hoon will be playing a younger version of the titular chief inspector Park Young Han, who was played by Choi Bool Am in the original series. While Choi Bool Am’s Park Young Han was already a fully-formed detective, Lee Je Hoon’s version of the character will be younger and more naive—and he will struggle with his fury against the cruel reality of a world that crushes people’s dignity.

The new drama will also follow the journey of Park Young Han forming a team with the beloved detectives that made up his squad in the original show.

“Chief Inspector 1963” is scheduled to begin filming in the second half of 2023.

Lee Je Hoon will play the youth of “Park Young Han”, the role played by actor Choi Bool Am in “Chief Inspector”. Over on MBC, Lee Je-hoon (Taxi Driver 2) has been confirmed for their upcoming crime procedural Chief Inspector 1963 (working title). On the 30th June, an official from J Wide Company, the agency, told OSEN, "Actor Jeong Su-bin is discussing a role in the drama 'Chief Investigator 1963'." Details such as casting were not disclosed.

MBC has unveiled the main cast lineup of its upcoming drama “Chief Inspector: The Beginning” (working title)!

On August 17, MBC confirmed that Lee Dong Hwi, Choi Woo Sung, and Yoon Hyun Soo will be playing the supportive trio with whom Lee Je Hoon forms his squad in “Chief Inspector: The Beginning.”

“Chief Inspector: The Beginning” will serve as a prequel to the classic Korean series “Chief Inspector,” which ran for 18 years from 1971 to 1989 and achieved an incredible peak of 70 percent ratings. While the original show was set in the 1970s and 1980s (present day at the time), “Chief Inspector 1963” will be set even earlier in the 1960s. Lee Dong Hwi will transform into detective Kim Sang Soon, also known as the “crazy dog” of the Jongnam Police Station. Born in a poor family, Kim Sang Soon is nothing without grit and courage. By the time he gets tired of being angry at the corrupted society, Kim Sang Soon meets Park Young Han, an uncompromising detective who changes Sang Soon’s life as a detective.

Choi Woo Sung will play Jo Kyung Hwan, a young man with extraordinary strength who later works at the Jongnam Police Station with a dream of becoming a proud person like Park Young Han who contributes to his country.

Finally, Yoon Hyun Soo will portray the role of Seo Ho Jung, a man with an elite background who later becomes the “strategist” of the Jongnam Police Station. It was officially confirmed on August 16 that Lee Dong Hwi will be one of the main leads of the upcoming MBC mystery K-drama Chief Inspector 1963.

Chief Inspector 1963 will be the prequel to MBC's hit 1971 K-drama Chief Inspector. The upcoming K-drama will be set in the 1950s and 1960s. It is in the era of barbarism and it will focus on the journey of detective Park Young Han who specializes in hunting small thieves. He will work with other colleagues to fight against corrupt power and become a detective for the people.

Lee Je Hoon will play the role of Choi Bool Am's character named Chief Inspector Park Young Han.

Lee Je Hoon's new K-drama Chief Inspector: The Beginning drops a trailer. 

Chief Inspector: The Beginning is a prequel to Chief Inspector. It takes place in 1958 when Detective Park Young Han (Lee Je Hoon) was appointed to Seoul.

Set in an era of chaos, the drama tells the story of Detective Park Young Han, who specializes in catching petty thieves, joining forces with three colleagues to shatter the norms of corrupt authority.

The K-drama has retro vibes, evoking nostalgia for the late 19s era.

The trailer opens with Detective Park Young Han confidently introducing himself after arriving in Seoul. He boasts that he has the "Top Arrest Rate for Petty Thieves in Gyeonggi Province." His relentless pursuit of criminals through gambling dens, markets, and muddy streets portrays his passion for his work.

As the narrative unfolds in the tumultuous year 1958, the drama trailer shows that investigations in Seoul in those days were far from easy. Lee Je-hoon and squad put away baddies in new teaser

he teaser for MBC’s upcoming cop show Chief Detective 1958 just dropped, showcasing a young detective Lee Je-hoon (Taxi Driver 2) ready to kick butt and take names on the streets of 1950s Seoul.

More than just a blast to the past in its setting, the show also serves as a prequel to the insanely popular 70s and 80s show Chief Inspector where Choi Bool-am played the lead role of Park Young-han. Instead of seeing a seasoned detective work crimes, the prequel takes us more than ten years back to when a young Young-han (Lee Je-hoon) was a headstrong rookie cop. Holding the record for most arrests back in his hometown province, the story follows Young-han as he arrives in Seoul with a fistful of righteous indignation and tenacity, only to find the city filled with more crime and corruption than he could have ever expected.

 

But thankfully, Young-han isn’t the only one with a taste for justice. After befriending three other cops played by Lee Dong-hwi (Big Bet), Choi Woo-sung (Melancholia), and Yoon Hyun-soo (A Good Day to Be a Dog), Young-han and the dream team work together to take down criminals and put them away.

The teaser opens with Young-han’s introduction to the Seoul police force, and we quickly cut to the low moments for him and his team: bank robberies, murders, and car explosions that take the lives of innocents. As he looks at one of the victim’s family members through a window, Young-han solemnly vows: “I will catch the perpetrator no matter what.”

We then cut to an upbeat montage of them fighting mobs and being young goofy cops trying to make a difference in a system that fails to punish the wrong and protect the weak. Their idealism is infectious, and when they strut through the door as a quartet in the final scene of the teaser, the voiceover hammers home what we’re already beginning to see: this is the start of something big.

The script reading scene of Chief Inspector: The Beginning has been revealed.

On February 7, the production team of the upcoming MBC Friday-Saturday drama Chief Inspector: The Beginning dropped pics from the script reading session.

Chief Inspector: The Beginning is a prequel to Chief Inspector. The K-drama takes place in 1958 when Detective Park Young Han (Lee Je Hoon) was appointed to Seoul.

Set in an era of chaos, the drama tells the story of Detective Park Young Han, who specializes in catching petty thieves, joining forces with three colleagues to shatter the norms of corrupt authority.

The script reading was attended by director Kim Sung Hoon, writer Kim Young Shin, and actors Lee Je Hoon, Lee Dong Hwi, Choi Woo Sung, Yoon Hyun Soo, Seo Eun Soo, Choi Deok-moon, Jung Soo Bin, and even veteran actor Choi Bool Am (who played Park Young Han in the 1971 series Chief Inspector).

 

 

 

 

Lee Je Hoon plays the lead role of Park Young Han. Park Young Han is a detective from the countryside. He is a tough man filled with anger at the violation of human dignity and is passionate about justice.

Lee Dong Hwi plays Kim Sang Soon, a character who likes doing things his way. The passionate detective Park Young Han and the uncontrollable Kim Sang Soon form a fantastic duo coming to sweep up criminals.

Rising star Choi Woo Sung plays Cho Kyung Hwan, who becomes a police officer at Jongnam Police Station. He transforms from a young man with extraordinary strength to a passionate policeman overflowing with a sense of justice. 

Actor Yoon Hyun Soo plays Seo Ho Jeong, who dreams of becoming a famous investigator.

Actress Seo Eun Soo plays Lee Hae Joo, the owner of the bookstore Jongnam Seorim. The actress's charm adds an extra spoonful of excitement to the delightful investigative drama.

Lee Je Hoon, Lee Dong Hwi, Seo Eun Soo, And More Impress At Script Reading For “Chief Detective 1958”

MBC’s upcoming drama “Chief Detective 1958” has shared photos and a video from its script reading!

“Chief Detective 1958” will serve as a prequel to the classic Korean series “Chief Inspector,” which ran for 18 years from 1971 to 1989 and achieved an incredible peak of 70 percent ratings back in its heyday. While the original show was set in the 1970s and 1980s (present day at the time), “Chief Detective 1958” will be set even earlier, in 1958. The drama will follow the story of Park Young Han, a passionate detective who boasts the highest arrest rate of petty thieves, as he teams up with three charismatic colleagues to break the norms of corruption.

Director Kim Sung Hoon and writer Kim Young Shin were both present at the script reading, along with cast members Lee Je Hoon, Lee Dong Hwi, Choi Woo Sung, Yoon Hyun Soo, Seo Eun Soo, Choi Duk Moon, Jung Soo Bin, and Choi Bool Am.

Lee Je Hoon perfectly transformed into the younger version of Park Young Han, a tough detective who has just come to Seoul from the countryside. Lee Je Hoon skillfully portrayed Park Young Han’s tenacity and determination for justice, while also showcasing his humane side.

Veteran actor Choi Bool Am, who played Park Young Han in the original series, was also present at the script reading. Viewers are already looking forward to his guest appearance in “Chief Detective 1958” and what kind of chemistry he will have with Lee Je Hoon.

Lee Dong Hwi impressed with his portrayal of detective Kim Sang Soon, who is known as the “crazy dog” of the Jongnam Police Station. By the time the courageous Kim Sang Soon gets tired of being angry at the corruption in society, he meets Park Young Han, an uncompromising detective who changes Sang Soon’s life. The fun and delightful chemistry between Lee Je Hoon and Lee Dong Hwi added an extra layer of charm to the characters.

Choi Woo Sung delivered an excellent performance in the role of Jo Kyung Hwan, a young man with extraordinary strength who later works at the Jongnam Police Station with a dream of becoming someone like Park Young Han, who contributes to his country. Yoon Hyun Soo also gave a stellar performance as Seo Ho Jung, a man with an elite background who later becomes the “strategist” of the Jongnam Police Station.

Seo Eun Soo will play the role of Lee Hye Joo, the beautiful and knowledgeable owner of the bookstore Jongnam Seorim. Seo Eun Soo flawlessly brought the character of Lee Hye Joo to life, and her chemistry with Lee Je Hoon made hearts flutter.
