Frozen 2 confirmed by Disney

A Frozen sequel has been officially commissioned by Disney.

Disney CEO Bob Iger announced during a shareholders meeting today (March 12) that Frozen co-directors Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee will be involved in the sequel.

Josh Gad is confirmed to be returning as the snowman Olaf, but no release date has yet been set.

Disney's confirmation of a sequel comes just three days after Buck and Lee denied that they were working on such a project.

"We were quite tired," Lee said. "We don't really know what it's like to stop for a minute and think about what we want to do next."

Characters from Frozen will first return in a Frozen Broadway musical and short film Frozen Fever, which will screen in cinemas before Cinderella.

Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel and Jonathan Groff all reprised their roles for Frozen Fever, but it is not yet known if they will be back for the feature-length sequel.

Disney also confirmed during its shareholders meeting today that a Felicity Jones-starring Star Wars spinoff titled Rogue One will be released on December 16, 2016.

The company announced as well that Star Wars Episode VIII will open on May 26, 2017 to mark the franchise's 40th anniversary.
