It wasn't entirely a coincidence for the debut airing to schedule on Nov 13.

TW's buddy, Jeong Kyu aspired to be another Kim Duk Koo, the late South Korean modern legendary boxer (to win at the International Mathematical Olympiad was NOT his dream, but his father's) who died in 1982 (the year both TW & SK were born) after a bout with Ray Mancini.

The below was taken from Wikipedia:

Kim was a hot fighter in his region who had won 12 straight bouts when he was assigned by the WBA as the world's number 1 challenger to world Lightweight champion Ray Mancini. Prophetically, he wrote the message "kill or be killed" on his Las Vegas hotel room's mirror only days before the bout.

Mancini and Kim met in an arena outside Caesar's Palace on November 13, 1982. In what many ringside observers have described as an "action-packed" fight, Mancini and Kim went toe to toe for a good portion of the bout, but by the latter rounds, Mancini began to dominate the young challenger. Spent and battered, Kim went into round 14 with little left and Mancini dropped him. He got up, but the fight was stopped and Mancini retained the title.

Minutes after the fight was over, Kim collapsed into a coma, and was taken to a hospital. Emergency brain surgery was performed there to try to save him, but that effort proved to be futile, as Kim died 5 days after the bout on November 18.

The Aftermath

Mancini went through a period of reflection, as he blamed himself for Kim's death. After friends helped him by telling him that it was just an accident, Mancini was able to go on with his career, but Kim's death would always haunt him. The bout's referee, Richard Greene, committed suicide in February of 1983, and so did Kim's mother, four months later.

Finally get to see Yoo In Young in another drama. I remember reading an article, and I think it discussed how it didn't seem like she was getting roles after doing "Loveholic" and the Drama City episode "Oh! Sarah" that also starred Lee Min Ki and Seo Do Young (while these 2 guys were beginning to get leading roles).

Im not too crazy about the storyline but i would watch it nevertheless. It really is a depressing tale if they are modeling it after the Samsung tragedy. And the ironic thing is that their real life tragedy has been played out in countless dramas/movies etc for so many years before it actually did happen.

She's been really popular lately, doesnt she also have a movie out as well? i think i saw a preview where LMK and SDY also attended the premeire.

현빈은 11월 방송 예정인 KBS 2TV 미니시리즈 눈의 여왕(가제ㆍ극본 김은희 윤은경ㆍ연출 이형민)의 남자 주인공으로 낙점 됐다. 한류 열풍의 진원지였던 드라마 겨울연가와 최근 거품이 잦아든 한류를 이끌고 있는 드라마 미안하다, 사랑한다의 주인공들과 함께 새로운 한류 창조에 나서는 것이다.

KBS 드라마국의 관계자는 현빈이 눈의 여왕의 주인공으로 사실상 확정됐다. 촬영 시기 및 출연료 조건 등에 대한 부분은 모두 논의를 마쳤다. 계약서 사인만 남겨둔 상태다. 9일 이전에 모든 절차를 마무리 지을 것으로 전망하고 있다고 전했다.

현빈은 지난 2005년 6월 MBC 미니시리즈 내 이름은 김삼순에서 세련된 이미지의 청년 사업가로 등장해 여성 팬들의 가슴을 설레게 한 바 있다. 1년 반이 지난 뒤 눈의 여왕으로 안방극장에 돌아오는 현빈은 기존의 반듯한 이미지와는 정반대의 매력을 보여주게 된다.

눈의 여왕에서 그는 천재적인 두뇌를 지녔지만 세상과 소통하기 싫어하는 철저한 아웃사이더로 등장한다. 권투 체육관에서 허드렛일을 하며 생계를 유지하면서 재능과 세월을 허비하지만 지독하게 염세주의적인 여성을 만나 사랑하게 되면서 삶의 단면이 바뀐다.

순수한 자아를 지닌 남녀 주인공의 사랑이 눈 덮인 자연의 아름다움에 투영되며 한층 고귀하게 그려지게 된다. 현빈은 현재 권투 체육관에 등록해 권투를 배우는 한편, 체육관 생활도 체험하며 촬영을 위한 만반의 채비를 갖추고 있다.

한편 현빈은 지난 2004년 MBC 미니시리즈 아일랜드 출연 당시 MBC와 미니시리즈 2편 분량에 해당하는 드라마 출연 계약을 맺은 바 있어 눈의 여왕 출연이 논란의 여지가 있는 상황이다. 자칫 지난 해 KBS 2TV 장밋빛 인생 당시 최진실 사태 재연의 우려도 있다.

He has been chosen as the male lead in the planned November KBS2 drama, Snow Queen.

A rep from KBS confirmed HBs participation, saying that all details have been worked out and only the contract needs to be signed. It is expected that all formalities will be completed before the 9th.

His image in the new drama will be very different from his high class image in his previous drama, My Name is Kim SamSoon. While he has brains, his character is a complete outsider who does not like interacting with society. He works odd jobs at a boxing gym to make a living, wasting away his talent and his life. But then he meets a woman who is the ultimate pessimist, falls in love, and changes his life around. Their love will be cast against the backdrop of lovely snow-covered scenery, making it seem that much more exalted/rare.

After finishing the 2004 MBC drama, Ireland, it was reported that HB would do two more MBC dramas, so it comes as a bit of a surprise that he has chosen to do Snow Queen. There is worry that this might be another situation similar to the Choi Jin-Shil situation with KBS 2TVs My Rosy Life. Especially since HB reported when considering doing MBCs September mini-series, What Are You Doing Fox? that he would definitely do another MBC drama. A high ranking MBC official said, While HB is still in contract with MBC, he cannot work with other broadcasting companies. We are looking to take legal action.

In regards to this, a spokesperson from Snow Queen reported, As far as I know, its allowed for one to participate in dramas with other broadcasting companies while under contract with another. Were hoping to gain cooperation and understanding from MBC and have things proceed smoothly with Hyun Bins casting.

Actor Hyun Bin has been casted to be the leading actor of the KBS 2TV drama series 'Noon Eui Yeo Wang (Queen of Snow)' which is scheduled to air this coming November.

'Noon Eui Yeo Wang (Queen of Snow)' is a sad fairy-tale like love story about a genius boxer fighting against a terminal disease and a daughter of a wealthy family that meet and fill each other's hearts. Hyun Bin has been casted for the role of the lead male character Han Tae Woong.

Tae Woong used to be labeled a boxing genius, but is now a high school drop-out that works as a sparring partner at a third-class boxing gym. Lackluster and without a dream, he one day meets a woman and feels destined love.

The drama has also gathered attention due to the participation of writers Kim Eun Hee and Yoon Eun Gyeong who were part of the team of 'Winter Sonata' as well as the producer and director Lee Hyeong Min of 'I'm Sorry, I Love You.'

9/18/06 – On 9/18, the production company "Yoon's Color (윤스칼라)" announces that Sung Yoo Ri (25) and Hyun Bin (24) will lead the drama "Queen of Snow (눈의 여왕)" scheduled to be aired by KBS2 around Christmas. He plays the role Suh Gun Woo (서건우) who is a doctor having quiet personality. Ever since Gun Woo bumps into the heroine Bo Ra (보라, played by Sung Yoo Ri) in the hospital, he would defend for her no matter what situation is. Thus, Gun Woo, Bo Ra, and Han Tae Woong (한태웅, played by Hyun Bin) form triangle love relationship. Finally..Hyun Bin in another drama! Hopefully he doesn't drop out of this one.

I was a little worried when I first read the title 'Snow Queen'....I thought this was going to be 'Ice Girl' part 2 and I hated 'Ice Girl'...but then I read what the story was about and now I'm relieved.

What a sad story though. It interested me enough to look up info on the Samsung heiress who commited suicide and it's just so depressing..poor girl.

Good to learn that his drama is finally confirmed but frankly, I'm not into this kind of storyline. I would love to see a more cheery plot so as to see more of Binnie's dimples as he smiles!

I'm glad to see Hyun Bin in a new drama! His role is completely different from the one in MNIKSS but it's good that he's taking on various genres.

8/18/06 – Yoo In Young (유인영) and Kim Tae Hyun (김태현) will costar with Hyun Bin in the drama “Queen of Snow (눈의 여왕)” scheduled to be aired by KBS2 in November. This drama attracts attention because the PD is Lee Hyung Min (이형민) who produced and directed the popular drama “I’m Sorry: I Love You” and the script writers are the duo Kim Eun Hee and Yoon Eun Kyung (김은희, 윤은경) who wrote for “Winter Love Song”.

Yoo In Young plays the role Seung Ri (승리) who is the daughter of the owner of boxing rings and falls in love with the boxer played by Hyun Bin. YIY accepts the offer of this role because Seung Ri is a gentle and energetic woman. Her previous projects were KBS2 drama “Loveholic (2005)” and the movie “Les Formidables (2006)”.

Kim Tae Hyun plays the role Choi Chong Shik (최충식) who is a professional boxer. Chong Shik, a good friend of the main male character played by Hyun Bin and the heroine played by Yoo In Young, introduce them to meet each other. Chong Shik lost his mother when he was in high school, and he has been working hard and living alone since then. KTH’s previous projects include MBC drama “Since We Met (2002)” as well as movies such as “Blue Sparrow (2005)” and “See You After School (2006)”.
