Now, not only does she have to deal with dirty looks from the girls in school who want Kenji for themselves, but her supposed boyfriend is getting on her nerves. He's hotheaded, never seems to agree with her on anything
—and everything about him screams gangster.

Has Athena gotten herself into more trouble than she can handle? Or has she actually found herself a boy she can call hers
—gangster be damned?

5 romantic Star Cinema films in 2014

ABS-CBNnews.com 02/11/2014

MANILA - Moviegoers can expect more big-screen love stories beyond Valentine's Day, as ABS-CBN film outfit Star Cinema is gearing up for several more romance-themed offerings in 2014.

"Starting Over Again," the first film of Toni Gonzaga and Piolo Pascual as co-stars, will open nationwide on February 12 to coincide with Valentine's week. The Olivia Lamasan-directed movie centers on former lovers who cross paths again after breaking up with no closure.

Star Cinema, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary, has announced several other romantic films slated for release this year. Promising fresh stories, the line-up is a mix of new team-ups and tried-and-tested "love teams."

Here are 5 Star Cinema movies to look forward to this year, and what we know about them so far:

1. She's Dating the Gangster
Starring: Kathryn Bernardo, Daniel Padilla

What we know so far: A film adaptation of the book by Bianca Bernardino, "She's Dating the Gangster" centers on 17-year-old Athena Dizon, who strikes a deal with school heartthrob Kenji delos Reyes to pretend to be his girlfriend. Originally uploaded on Wattpad, an online community for writers, the story was picked up by Summit Books for publishing in March 2013.

Their new film was announced in January during the contract-signing of Star Cinema with Summit Books for the adaptation.

2. Once A Princess
Starring: Erich Gonzales, Enchong Dee

What we know so far: Directed by Laurice Guillen, "Once A Princess" centers on a class geek-turned-successful scientist who crosses paths again with a "princess" who played with his feelings when they were younger. Like "She's Dating the Gangster," this film is also an adaptation of a best-selling book, this time from the Precious Hearts Romances series.

3. Untitled Angelica-Gerald movie
Starring: Angelica Panganiban, Gerald Anderson

What we know so far: Directed by Ruel Bayani, the still-untitled film will be the first time Panganiban and Anderson will act together. Unlike his last two films ("No Other Woman," "One More Try"), which he described as "big, explosive melodrama," Bayani said the new movie will be "quiet, mature and restrained." While the film's story is still under wraps, the director offered the film will feature "a story of great love."

4. Untitled Sarah-Coco movie
Starring: Sarah Geronimo, Coco Martin

What we know so far: The Jerry Sineneng-directed movie, according co-star Ruffa Gutierrez, will feature Geronimo as an up-and-coming PR professional who meets Martin's character. Geronimo described the film as a romance-drama, which she said will be a departure from her "A Very Special Love" trilogy co-starring John Lloyd Cruz. The upcoming film, which started shooting on Tuesday, will be Geronimo and Martin's second acting project together after the TV musical "1DOL" in 2010.

5. Untitled third 'KimXi' film
Starring: Kim Chiu, Xian Lim

What we know so far: Chiu and Lim will topbill a film for a third time after the blockbuster successes of "Bakit Hindi Ka Crush ng Crush Mo?" in 2013 and "Bride For Rent" in 2014. The new project was announced by the actress herself during a recent victory party for "Bride For Rent," which earned P325 million nationwide after only three weeks in theaters.

Daniel and Kathryn thanking viewers for high G2B ratings

MANILA, Philippines - Got To Believe Director Cathy Garcia-Molina has handled different onscreen pairings, but taking charge of the loveteam of Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla presented her a challenge like no other.

“I’ve heard stories about them, but I’ve seen very little of their work and they didn’t have that much experience. So, I was glad on how very different they are because I couldn’t handle them the way I handled all my other actors in the past,” direk Cathy said of the lead stars, also known as KathNiel to fans, of the ABS-CBN primetime series about childhood friends turned star-crossed sweethearts Chichay and Joaquin.

“They’re like babies. You need to have a sense of them. Otherwise, instead of them doing better, they're more likely to fold. So, they have taught me also that there’s another way of handling actors, and I was glad that we achieved that. And they have a lot of future. I told them that I want to direct them in a film because we can still bring out so much more from them, and there’s more to come.”

Asked to deconstruct the uniqueness of their tandem, direk Cathy said, “Maybe what’s unique is because Daniel is Daniel and Kathryn is Kathryn. Daniel is a different kind of mammal — different from all the actors I’ve handled. I’m shocked that he has dramatic sense. And he’s young, plays a lot and immature yet mature; he knows what he wants, he knows how he wants his life to lead. As for Kathryn, she’s very young but very professional maybe because at a very early age, she's already an actress.”

She continued, “When you combine the two, there’s really a certain kind of magic they have that you won't see in the others precisely because they’re two different people and different from the loveteams I directed.”

What’s next for KathNiel after Got To Believe? A movie to be helmed by direk Cathy, titled She’s Dating The Gangster, which is adapted from a Wattpad story.

Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo overwhelmed by success of Got To Believe finale concert

Led by Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo, the full cast of Got To Believe marked the final week of the top-rating Kapamilya teleserye with a whole-day event for their avid supporters.

Dubbed as the "Best Fair Ever," various theme booths, kiddie rides, and mini-shows were mounted from 8 a.m. until late afternoon at the Globe Circuit Makati last Sunday, March 2.

It was capped off by a star-studded concert reportedly attended by thousands of fans. Daniel and Kathryn expressed their gratitude for their fans who supported the series for the past six months.

Most fans have been there since 8 a.m. for the whole day fair, but they remained excited and full of energy just to see a glimpse of their idols.

It was around 7:45 p.m. when Daniel finally appeared on stage, singing his hit single “Hinahanap-hanap Kita.”

Fans couldn’t help but scream at the top of their lungs upon seeing the dashing Kapamilya actor, who gamely went down the stage to greet those who were seated in the VIP area.

After Daniel’s solo number, Kathryn performed her version of "Pagdating Ng Panahon."

The beautiful Kapamilya actress also interacted with the fans who were obviously thrilled to see her up close.

Fans at the VIP area were seen extending their hands, trying their best to be as close as possible to Kathryn.

The KathNiel tandem further upped the crowd’s excitement when they sang a duet of Daniel's hit revival song, “Kahit Maputi Na Ang Buhok Ko.”

They also performed Got To Believe’s theme song of the same title, much to the delight of the screaming audience.

Although they experienced a few technical glitches during the production number, Daniel smoothly charmed the fans with his ad-libs on stage.

“Of course there are new things that are about to start, so let's not be saddened by this (show's end),” said Daniel, probably referring to his upcoming Star Cinema movie with Kathryn titled She’s Dating The Gangster.

This movie is an adaptation of the book with the same title, which features a young girl named Athena Dizon who develops a bond with campus bad boy Kenji de los Reyes.

He also profusely thanked their fans who made an effort to see them during the concert.

“First of all, a huge thank you to all of you for being here tonight. Thank you so much!”

Kathryn, for her part, hoped that viewers learned a lot from the journey of Got To Believe’s lead characters, Joaquin and Chichay, since the soap started airing in August 2013.

Kapamilya, thank you so much to all of you who supported Got To Believe until the end. I hope you were able to gain wisdom (from the show),” she beamed.

Before the curtain call, Daniel and Kathryn were joined by the other cast members of the top-rating Kapamilya teleserye..

Got To Believe is slated to end this Friday, March 7, on ABS-CBN.

“It’s a bittersweet feeling, knowing the show that everyone loved has come to an end,” said Daniel Padilla during Sunday’s “Got to Believe” fans day attended by supporters of KathNiel, his screen partnership with Kathryn Bernardo. The ABS-CBN drama series, which topped ratings for six months, airs its final episode Friday night.

G2B creative manager Henry King Quitain said Padilla and Bernardo have remained unaffected by their popularity. “Off-cam, they’re just normal kids. Daniel is very sweet and protective of Kathryn,” he noted. “He gets jealous when she hangs out with other guys. He even checks on Kathryn’s outfits—whether or not they’re too revealing.”

Quitain added: “Like other kids, they have spats but their work is never affected. Kathryn is very professional. Daniel is naturally playful, always roughing it up with cameramen.”

On the set, last taping days of Got to Believe

What’s next for KathNiel? Quitain said in the works was a new material where Daniel and Kathryn would play super heroes (rumors of possible Magic Temple remake). “They are also working on a Star Cinema production (She's Dating The Gangster),” said Tanwangco. “But first, the entire G2B team will head off to the beach for a well-deserved R&R.”
