Daniel, Kathryn to begin shooting 'Gangster' movie

MANILA – Cameras will start rolling on Friday for the big-screen team-up of Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla.

A day before they start filming, Bernardo admitted she feels pressured because of the strong box office performance of “Starting Over Again,” the last movie released by Star Cinema.

“We don't want to have expectations because if you really look at it, we're relatively new. Hopefully it would be successful, but we don't want to expect anything right now. We'll make sure first that the material we're going to release is a good one,” Bernardo said.

Asked if they could replicate the box-office success of their horror movie, Padilla briefly said: “It's nerve-wracking but Kath and I are going to give it our all.”

A film adaptation of the book by Bianca Bernardino, "She's Dating the Gangster" centers on 17-year-old Athena Dizon, who strikes a deal with school heartthrob Kenji delos Reyes to pretend to be his girlfriend.

“It's completely different from anything we've done so far. One's a horror, the other was for teens. This one's a slightly mature romantic-comedy. We of course know this [project] would be handled well,” Padilla said.

To prepare for their roles, Bernardo revealed that she and Padilla were asked to read the book to fully understand their characters.

“I'm excited because it's like this great love story. It's not only just a romantic-comedy but really more of a serious one,” she said.

While sticking to the book's plot, Bernardo said their fans should expect more twists in the lives of Athena and Kenji.

“So many have read the book, so of course we're not really going to remove from the movie what's already there. But everyone should expect more things to come. It won't only be just the book, but also some more twists are going to be made. Everyone should look forward to it,” she added.

Star Cinema will release “She’s Dating the Gangster,” which will be directed by Cathy Garcia Molina, later this year.

More than bringing kilig for the teenagers, Direk Cathy Garcia-Molina wants "She's Dating The Gangster" to be enjoyed even by the more mature market.

Although the lead stars of the upcoming movie adaptation of the book "She Dating The Gangster" are the country's teen king and queen, Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo respectively, Direk Cathy would also like to think of the broadest market possible.

"Right now our story even if it's an adaptation, we're still shaping it because it cannot be exactly as that (book)," shares Direk Cathy. "Because the book's market is different. It's market are teens, but when it comes to movies it can't be the teens that are only the ones you capture."

Direk Cathy would like to make sure that the movie would cater all ages. She adds, "You have to capture the mothers, our core, the working class, and I feel that it's too hip, that's why we still had to find ways so that it can cater to everybody."

"She's Dating The Gangster," produced by Star Cinema, will be released this year.

It certainly was a “dream come true” for Kathryn Bernardo as she finally got to travel to Paris, France. After her very successful grand debut party last March 29, Kathryn flew to Europe for a vacation with her entire family.

Kath posted a snapshot of herself and the famous Eiffel tower. "Don't let your dreams just be dreams," she captioned.

She took another photo while walking in front of the tower wearing a big smile on her face. "This place will be forever in my heart," she said.




Meanwhile, her onscreen partner and ka-MU Daniel Padilla also traveled outside of the Philippines. He flew to Dubai with Yeng Constantino for a show, and afterwards held a concert in London and Rome. Daniel Padilla and Yeng Constantino's next stop is Paris.

 
Kathryn and Daniel are set to resume shooting for their upcoming Star Cinema movie She's Dating A Gangster as soon as they come back to the Philippines.

After the hit TV series Got to Believe, Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo are back together again in the movie She's Dating The Gangster, to be directed by the blockbuster director Cathy Garcia-Molina.

In a PUSH exclusive interview with Direk Cathy, she shared her happiness about all of them working together again. "Exciting because again we're all going to push each other hard. I am always excited to do a project with the same casting because that's when you're going to see their range. It's exciting in a way like, 'How are these two going to act differently this time?' So part of my excitement is also seeing them transform. In that chance when we would finally see them as what others truly call 'actors', so that's exciting."

Already, a lot of fans are excited in this follow-up movie pairing of KathNiel after their Metro Manila Film Fest Entry entitled Pagpag. The story of She's Dating The Gangster may be well known online, but many are still anticipating the fleshed-out characters these two are going to portray. Direk Cathy assures something different would be seen from the pair this time by the viewers.

"Me, I'd rather you expect that which you call 'leveling up' in the story, what kind of story would be told. Because with Got To Believe, it's focused on first love, the hurdles, what they went through. With this one, it's more than that because you learned from the person. Again, it's about first love and yet what we are going to tell is more than just that. It's about how a first love turned into a great love. So I get excited on how these two are going to creat a story that is not only about first love. Hopefully, the actors as themselves would also learn along with the characters in this movie about love."

Direk Cathy admits it's a big help that the two gained an extra year in their age, especially Kathryn who just recently debuted. "Have you seen her pictures on her debut? Oh my God, such a beautiful child, and these are two beautiful people and I am excited to see them onscreen. I'm excited how they would be different, not only physically, not only acting-wise, but also as they are. I want them to mature as the characters will mature. I want them to learn about love, and these are my babies, my youngest children."

"I'm glad because in 'Got To Believe (G2B),' I was excited that for the first time I'm going to make a soap opera about first love,” says Direk Cathy in an exclusive interview held recently.  “And this movie is, again, a story about first love it's just that in a movie, it doesn't only end there. This is not just a story about first love. This is a story of how first love turns into a great love. So, the story has a bigger expanse, in terms of roller-coaster ride, you'd expect more bumps, more highs."

Direk Cathy promised to give her best in making “She’s Dating The Gangster” a truly "kilig," memorable movie.
 
"To all 'SDTG' readers and fans, KathNiel fans, Star Cinema fans, Pinoy movie fans, with this movie we're going to give our best to live up to your expectations, but we're not stopping there. There will be more, more than just the book. There are some twists, some turns, there will be a few changes," explains Direk Cathy. 

“We won't promise exact depiction from the book to the movie, of course we need to turn it into a film version, and because of that there will be little changes, there will be some changes and enhancements but it will always be for the better of the movie, for a better love story to tell."

A few more days till his second concert at the Araneta Coliseum and Daniel Padilla claims that he’s far anxious over DOS: The Daniel Padilla Birthday Concert than his first concert last year.

Despite the pressure, Daniel during his appearance on the Sunday episode of Buzz ng Bayan assured his fans that he’s doing his best as he gears up for the concert.

Among his guests on the concert is his idol, Rico Blanco with whom Daniel recently-rehearsed with. His Teen Queen Kathryn Bernardo will also grace the concert as well as Pinoy Big Brother All In host Toni Gonzaga, Be Careful With My Heart star Richard Yap, singer Khalil Ramos and his very own band Parking 5.

DOS: The Daniel Padilla Birthday Concert is happening on April 30 at the Araneta Coliseum.

Meanwhile, Daniel who turned 19 just last April 26 celebrated his birthday via surprise party organized by his mother Karla Estrada and Star Magic manager at his home. Among his guests was Kathryn whom he joked to have failed getting him a present.

Other than his concert, KathNiel is set to be seen on the big screen anew through their film She’s Dating the Gangster soon.

Perhaps the most-awaited part of the concert was the segment wherein Kathryn Bernardo finally joined Daniel on stage. 

Wearing a long-sleeved backless gown, Kathryn was playing coy as Daniel serenaded her with Paul Anka's “Put Your Head On My Shoulders.”

At the end of the song, Daniel thanked her for being part of his birthday concert.

He sweetly stated, much to the fans’ delight, “Because you know you're important to me.”

The reel and rumored real-life couple also did a duet of Got To Believe, the theme song of their recently-concluded ABS-CBN primetime soap of the same title.

As if that’s not enough, Daniel serenaded Kathryn again with a kilig rendition of the popular love song, "It Might Be You."

Only then did Daniel let her go backstage.

The two will resume shooting for their upcoming film “She’s Dating The Gangster” after the concert.

Kathryn Bernardo celebrated her 18th birthday on March 26. She has just returned from a European vacation with her family. “We went to Paris, Amsterdam and Milan,” she said. “I came home for a short while then left again for South Korea with some friends. I worked very hard in the past few months, so I maximized the month-long break that the network gave me.”

Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla are working on the movie adaptation of the book “She’s Dating the Gangster,” by Bianca Bernardino. “We resumed shooting on May 2. We had taken a break so I could concentrate on my debut and DJ, on his birthday concert,” she said. “We haven’t tackled the heavy scenes; we’re just warming up.”

Cathy Garcia-Molina, who helmed the concluded top-rating program “Got to Believe,” is directing the movie.

Bernardo was a guest performer in Padilla’s sold-out concert at the Big Dome on April 30. The event marked the actor’s 19th birthday on April 26.

Bernardo’s wish for her screen partner and suitor: “Good health—and I hope he remains humble in spite of his success. People love him as he is, so I hope he does not change.”
