For those who are learning or those who need to review their album from older article

Mary Siroky

The post BTS Album Guide: A Rightfully Exhaustive Breakdown of Their Discography appeared first on Consequence.

There are so many ways to become part of the BTS ARMY, a journey that is often both joyful and overwhelming. Perhaps you’re a renowned debut ARMY and have been following the group for nearly a decade now; maybe you’re a more recent “Butter” era ARMY, and are still feeling slightly intimidated by the sheer scope of the group’s discography. There are also some points throughout BTS’ career that were watershed moments for the group — SNL, Carpool Karaoke, and “Dynamite” all ushered in a slew of new fans.

However you found your way to RM, Jin, SUGA, J-Hope, V, Jimin, and Jungkook, this week is important for fans old and new alike. On Friday, June 10th, BTS are releasing their first anthology album, PROOF, along with a brand new single, “Yet to Come” (The Most Beautiful Moment).” If this is your first official “comeback” with BTS, there’s probably a lot of new vocab words being tossed around — what defines a comeback, anyway? What does 190811 Jungkook mean, and why are we talking in code?

To make things a little easier for everyone, we’ve put together a handy guide to BTS’ discography so far. This timeline, from the group’s debut in 2013 to last full-length release in 2020, includes all Korean-language EPs and LPs. (To be clear, the Japanese releases absolutely slap, but we are focusing on BTS’ Korean discography as laid out by Big Hit Entertainment for this breakdown — “Lights” stans, you are not forgotten! “Stay Gold,” you will always be famous!)

The fact of the matter is that there are so many gems throughout each era of BTS’ career, so let these album highlights act as jumping-off points for further discoveries within each of them. Enjoy the journey through the wild and whimsical world of Bangtan Sonyeondan with us ahead of PROOF.

@YongZura⁷  I miss Jimin! So sweet............ So NICE to know they're doing OK with Jungkook inside the camp. I wonder why Jungkook has gone completely silent or he really has decided to go quiet. JK goes quiet at times. Well, let's just read the message for what it is. Jungkook will find his way...... Right now, he's working hard at doing his best. Sigh..... 60-days have passed quick & I miss Jungkook big time!

*** V  has inspired a fan in an unexpected way. The "Squid Game: The Challenge," where the show featured real-life contestants competing in a series of high-stakes children's games for a $4.56 million cash prize. One of the contestants on this show, an influencer who goes by the name "Flawless Kevin," has recently confessed that he auditioned to be a player after seeing V cosplay as one of the Squid Game characters. Kevin humorously revealed, "The real reason why I signed up for Squid Game, my fellow cast mates may have been competing for $4.56 million dollars but I was competing for Taehyung’s heart." - hahaha -  I remember that during BTS's 2021 "Permission to Dance On Stage - Live Play" concert at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, V sent the internet into a frenzy with his surprise appearance in a full-fledged "Squid Game" guard costume. The iconic moment in LA concert. His photos in the "Squid Game" costume went viral, garnering millions of views within hours. He's capable of breaking the internet with a single costume change, even for doing the most random things. Honestly, this man's impact is off the charts! Live with it, V!   :heart2:

*** Korea’s renowned vocal trainer, Park Sun Joo, has made a bold comparison in a recent interview that places Jungkook in the same realm as the legendary Michael Jackson. Known for her expertise in vocal training, her comparison is not one to be taken lightly. She has described Jungkook’s GOLDEN album as reminiscent of a “21st-century evolved Michael Jackson,” highlighting not only his vocal abilities, his unparalleled stage presence, his influence in the global music scene, but also his dancing skills. All of them are parallel to Michael Jackson’s legendary status.  She highlighted several idols who stand out for their exceptional singing abilities. And Jungkook is the only male idol that made in her list. She was amazed by his solo album.   :heart3:

*** The entertainment agency Artist Company recently released a greetings video for the new year featuring its talent. Actors recommended their favorite songs based on the question, “Which song gives you strength?”  At 15:09, Squid Game star Lee Jung Jae revealed that Jungkook‘s song “Standing Next to You” is the song that gives him strength. He actually has a friendship with V!  :heart2:

*** Usher’s new album, Coming Home, was released February 9. So, he guested on iHeartRadio, promoting it. The last song from the album is actually the Usher remix of Jungkook‘s “Standing Next to You.” When he introduced “Standing Next to You” on the radio, Usher explained why he wanted to feature on a remix of the song. He recognized what a magical song it was when it was first released, but there was more to it.

‘Standing Next to You’ was obviously a smash when Jungkook put it out. I just wanted to participate in the magic.

— Usher

Not only that, but “Standing Next to You” reminded him of working with the “King of Pop” himself Michael Jackson.  Usher did the same dance move with Jungkook that he had done with Michael.

@YongZura⁷  So NICE that RM took the time and wish fans for Seollal and hoped for their happy lives and good health. He's so warm that he also expressed his feelings and mentioned that they have to spend another Seollal before he gets to meet the fans. RM wished everyone a happy and healthy life and hoped that more good things happen than bad ones. What I like is when he expressed his wish that BTS' relationship with fans would continue.   :Twerkdatbutt:

BTS’s V has officially commenced his military service, joining the esteemed ROK II Corps, aka “Double Dragons” unit Chuncheon’s 2nd Infantry Division. On the 8th, V was spotted relocating to his new unit in Gangwon-do, Chuncheon, where he is set to serve in the military police special task force directly under the division’s command. Dressed in military attire and a crisply shaped beret, V’s presence was commanding, his charismatic demeanor capturing attention.

Prior to this assignment, V successfully passed the rigorous selection process for the Capital Defense Command’s Special Duty Team (SDT), including document screening, interviews, and physical fitness tests. He entered the recruit training center last December, where he underwent five weeks of basic military training alongside BTS’s RM. V also completed a three-week advanced course at the Army’s Comprehensive Administration School.

Notably, V and RM were recognized as elite trainees at the training center, a distinction awarded to only 5 out of 200 soldiers. Their exceptional training performance and exemplary conduct during service were lauded.

BTS members are all currently fulfilling their military obligations. Jin and J-Hope are serving as instructors, Suga is carrying out his duties as a public service worker, and RM has been assigned to the 15th Infantry Division. Jimin and Jungkook are set to continue their service with the 5th Infantry Division.

Mirae Asset awaits BTS comeback amid Hybe’s stock struggles

Mirae Asset Securities eagerly anticipates the return of BTS, as its investment in Hybe has failed to meet expectations.

Despite injecting substantial funds into Hybe, the stock prices have consistently declined. This decline can be attributed to investments in non-interest-bearing bonds, effectively resulting in Mirae Asset Securities lending money to Hybe interest-free for the past three years.

Hybe headquarters located in Yongsan-gu, Seoul./News1

According to the Korea Exchange, Hybe concluded trading at 200,000 won on Feb. 8, marking a 1.32% increase from the previous trading day.

Hybe’s stock price dipped below the 200,000 won mark for the first time in three months on Feb. 1.

Mirae Asset Securities, having invested 150 billion won in Hybe, closely monitors the company’s stock price. In November 2021, Hybe issued convertible bonds totaling 400 billion won. Han Seong-su, a Master Professional (MP) under Hybe’s subsidiary label Pledis Entertainment, invested 10 billion won, while Mirae Asset Securities contributed the remaining 390 billion won. Mirae Asset Securities later sold down 240 billion won of its investment.

Despite soaring past 420,000 won in November 2021, Hybe’s stock price now sits at roughly half the conversion price of 380,000 won. Although stock conversion has been an option since November of last year, the absence of adjustment conditions for the conversion price has postponed the timeline for recouping investments.

Mirae Asset Securities can exercise a put option from September onwards to demand repayment from Hybe, but this would solely allow for the recovery of the principal amount. An industry insider in the domestic IB sector explained, “At the time of Hybe’s issuance of convertible bonds, the outlook for the stock price was optimistic, making it an appealing investment opportunity.” They added, “This is why Mirae Asset Securities accepted unfavorable terms.”The optimistic outlook from securities analysts towards the South Korean entertainment industry is fading as album sales, indicative of the companies’ performance, continue to disappoint. The decline in bulk album purchases by Chinese fans since late last year has led to a significant drop in initial sales figures. In January of this year, album sales for NMIXX and ITZY, both under JYP Entertainment, plummeted by 40% and 60%, respectively.

Other factors are also hindering Hybe’s stock price. The government’s initiative to launch the ‘Corporate Value-Up Program’ aims to address the ‘Korea Discount (a tendency for South Korean securities to be assigned lower valuations or bear an inflated risk premium by investors)’ issue. This initiative raises concerns that Netmarble, one of Hybe’s major shareholders, may further sell off shares to repay debts. Netmarble announced in November of last year its intention to sell a 6% stake in Hybe for 523.5 billion won. Following this announcement, Hybe’s stock price plummeted by more than 10% over four trading days.

Additionally, Netmarble has placed a 90-day lock-up period on its remaining 12.08% stake in Hybe, which is set to expire in mid-February.

However, the outlook suggesting that Hybe’s fourth-quarter performance last year will align with expectations from securities analysts, making it the only one among the four major entertainment companies, is seen as a positive sign. Kim Kijoo, CEO of KPI Advisors, commented, “Despite the decline in bulk purchases from China, Hybe’s popular groups achieved their highest album sales records last year.” He added, “If the album sales of Le Sserafim and NewJeans, expected to return in the first quarter of this year, perform well, concerns surrounding the South Korean entertainment industry, particularly Hybe’s stock price, are likely to dissipate.”

Thanks, RM, for posting on your IG about 봄날 on its 7th Anniversary

RM and I were actively involved with writing the lyrics and composing the music of this song. The lyrics also contain our personal anecdotes - SUGA

봄날 is a song that lets you feel our heartwarming sentiments, and it's personally more meaningful to me as I sing the last part when we perform it on the stage.  I hope that listening to this song will help you realise that you are that person by someone's side and that you being there for them gives them comfort and enables them to feel happy - RM
