Ha Ji Won shows a passion for singing

Actress Ha Ji Won reveals her singing ability on an episode of ‘Thank You’ in which she travels with singer Lee Moon Se and the classical music director and conductor Seo Hee Tae. The show will be broadcast on SBS on April 26.

In the program, Ha Ji Won shows up at the first meeting point on her bicycle. For this trip, she puts aside her actress status and shows her down-to-earth side. It one point, she eagerly takes part in a competition to see who can sing Lee Moon Se’s songs the best. Her opponents are MC Cha In Pyo and conductor Seo Hee Tae. Ha chose to sing “Forever With You,” and all listeners were touched. The episode also includes such other hits by Lee Moon Se as “A Girl” and “Old Love.”

Just as friends talk about this and that when they travel together, the cast of ‘Thank You’ also share stories during the trip. ‘Thank You’ airs every Friday at 11:20 p.m.

@pie...i just finished watching the "Thank You" episode and thoroughly enjoyed it. HJW was indeed funny especially that part where she was singing and got interrupted by a dog, then a duck and finally a crew LOL...she couldn't stop laughing and i was the same way too. I just really, really wish that someone can put an eng sub so I can understand everything they are saying...but either way...the episode really gives us a good idea on the kind of person she is. Though i know that they had to follow some script in some way...they were all very spontaneous. Do they know each other from before?

About the "Thank You" episode, seems to me that they don't know each other, in fact at the beginning Ha Ji Won asks if she has to call Lee Mon Se oppa! And she was really surprised to see the music director Seo Hee Tae! They had a lot of fun, can't wait for the next episode, i'm still wondering why Ha Ji Won will cry!

[News] Ha Ji Won Really Set To Be Korea's Angelina Jolie, Chooses Action Roles

Actress Ha Ji Won likes her roles with plenty of action and, whether she is playing a stuntwoman, a spy or starring in a commercial, she likes to do as much of her own stunt work as possible.

The actress recently filmed an outdoor wear commercial in which she could be seen climbing up the side of a cliff in Thailand. Her calm cool demeanor in the face of such a dangerous situation impressed both the director and crew.

But facing physical challenges is nothing new for Ha Ji Won.

While the actress admitted that cliff climbing was difficult, it was not the first time she attempted to meet a physical challenge in the name of portraying a convincing part.

For her 2010 series, "Secret Garden," she played the role of Gil Ra Im, a poor but talented stuntwoman. While the actress did have a stuntwoman of her own for some of the shots, she tried to do as many as she could.

Her next role as Cha Hae Joon, an oil rig inspector in the 2011 film, "Sector 7," gave her the opportunity to do all her own stunts.

Before the film went into production, she worked out for weeks to strengthen her muscles.

"I have a petite physique," said the actress. "So I concentrated on weight training to prevent my action scenes from looking weak and powerless."

To prepare for her role, the actress spent eight-hour days swimming and lifting weights. She also obtained scuba diving and motorcycle licenses.

She has made a career out of choosing physically challenging roles.

"My ideal female role model is someone who is not fragile, someone who is independent and charismatic," said Ha Ji Won. "I want to keep doing action scenes like Angelina Jolie."

For her next role as Kim Hang Ah, a North Korean Special Forces Officer, in the drama "King 2 Hearts," she studied martial arts roles and completed her own stunts without a double. For her role in the film "Sex is Zero," she learned advanced aerobics. For the film "Duelist", she learned Seonmudo, a Korean Buddhist martial art. She mastered boxing for the film "Miracle on First Street" and table tennis for the film "As One." For that role as the famous tennis player Hyeon Jeong Hwa, she spent three months being coached by the pro herself.

Despite sustaining injuries on set while executing her stunts, she has never let her injuries interfere with completing a film or drama.

In the same way as she has been inspired by Angelina Jolie's action films, the actress will yet inspire a new generation of female Korean action stars.

Won Bin and Ha Ji-won were voted the most popular actor and actress in Korea in an email poll by the Chosun Ilbo and Korea's largest film ticketing site Maxmovie. Some 22,362 people voted from March 30 to April 5.

The two drew 16.2 and 10.9 percent of the votes, respectively. But Song Kang-ho and Jeon Do-yeon were chosen as the best as opposed to most popular actor and actress, with 17.7 and 21.8 percent of the votes.

Since the poll targeted online users of Maxmovie who had been to the cinema at least once last year, it probably reflects moviegoers' preferences more accurately than other surveys. 

◆ Popularity Vs. Acting Skills

A star's image seems to play a bigger role than the films in which they appear when people choose their favorite actors. The most popular stars were those who became famous in TV series or commercials, despite a lack of box office hits or critically acclaimed films to their credit. A good example is Hyun Bin, the ninth most popular actor with 3.5 percent of the votes, who became hugely popular with the TV soap "Secret Garden" but whose recent film "Late Autumn" released on Feb. 17 only managed to attract 850,000 spectators.

Shin Min-a, the fifth most popular actress, is a much sought-after face for commercials but has not appeared on screen since "A Million" in 2009.

Kim Myung-min, Sol Kyung-gu, Son Ye-jin, Song Kang-ho, Su-ae, Ahn Sung-ki, Won Bin, Jeon Do-yeon, Ha Jung-woo and Ha Ji-won were on both the popular and best actors lists. They all have at least two box office hits or highly rated films in their portfolio. Veteran actress Kim Hye-ja, who starred in "Mother" in 2009 after a 10-year absence since 1999's "Mayonnaise," ranked third on the best list with 7.1 percent.

Among directors, Im Kwon-taek was picked as the best with 17.4 percent. With the exception of Lee Jeong-beom, who directed last year's box office hit "The Man from Nowhere," the top 10 were mainstream directors like Bong Joon-ho, Kang Je-gyu, Kang Woo-suk and Lee Chang-dong.
