Ha Ji Won, Entering National Ping-Pong Championship?

If you have been following Ha Ji Won on Soompi.com, you might already know that she is practicing Ping-Pong in order to prepare for her role in the upcoming film “Korea.”

Two prominent media websites Daily Sports and Star news have reported conflicting stories about Ha Ji Won. Daily Sports announced “Top star Ha Ji Won is aiming for the national Ping-Pong championship.” According to Daily Sports, the “Secret Garden Star” Ha Ji Won was originally unskilled but she practiced so hard that eventually she became so good that “She was considering entering the Ping-Pong national championship.”

In response, Star News pushed out an article with the title “What do you mean by saying that Ha Ji Won is entering the Ping-Pong championship? Beginning filming in May.” The article reads “On the 6th an inside source from Ha Ji won’s entertainment agency Well Made Star M had said that in May. Ha Ji Won will enter filming for Korea and I don’t know what they are talking about when [media sources] said that she would be entering a Ping-Pong championship.”

The movie “Korea” is based on the story of the first combined North and South Korean Ping Pong team that entered the Chiba Ping-Pong championship.

Ha Ji Won, “What Nationals?” Movie Filming Starting May

Actress Ha Ji Won’s representative said that she will not be playing in any table tennis tournaments in the near future.

The representative said “I don’t even know how this rumor even started. She has to film ‘Korea’ starting in May.” One reporting company even said that she is fully devoted to the movie but she will still compete at the nationals.

Ha Ji Won has been practicing table tennis since she decided to act in the film “Korea.”

“Korea” is a movie based on the true story of the North-South Korean joint team winning the world championships back in 1991. Ha Ji Won took the role of the national athlete at the time.

The representative said “I think the reason is because she is practicing so hard. But think about it, how can anyone compete in the nationals after practicing for only three months?”

Seoul, Korea — After hitting two consecutive homeruns in the movie Haeundae and the drama series Secret Garden, actress Ha Ji-won is now trying a new role as a table tennis player.

According to an announcement by her agency on the 27th, Ha Ji-won has decided to star in the upcoming movie Korea. This movie can be seen as the table tennis version of the heart-rending sports drama movie Forever the Moment, and it will be based on the first victory of the united North-Korea team in the 1991 World Table Tennis Championships held in Chiba City.

Ha Ji-won’s agency disclosed that she will immediately receive table tennis training since she was not able to while starring in Secret Garden.

It was also disclosed that the screenplay was written after a series of interviews with the women’s table tennis team coach, Hyun Jung-Hwa.

Ha Ji-won’s agency added that they decided to feature her in this movie because they thought that this true story would move people’s hearts at a time when North and South relationships are deteriorating.

Actors get sick while working out, 'why?'

It's confusing if they are an athlete or an actor. Actors and actresses work hard to master a specific sport in a given amount of time for their roles in movies and dramas, beyond working out for their health.

Ha Ji-won and Bae Doona are practically living in the table tennis arena everyday with shooting of the movie "Korea" coming up this May. "Korea" is about the true story of the victory of the united South and North Korean team in the Ziba World Table Tennis Championships in 1991. Ha Ji-won and Bae Doona are the two South and North representatives, Hyeon Jeong-hwa and Lee Boon-hee. The two are putting their all in training for table tennis.

Kim Myeong-min and Ko Ah-ra in movie "Pacemaker". It's a bout a sportsman who controls the pace of the runner until the finishing line in a set amount of time, running with the runner. Kim Myeong-min has been training for the marathon from a couple months ago, and Ko Ah-ra is going at high jumping for the first time in her life.

In the movie "Only You - Movie" is So Ji-sub, pure love boxer, is training hard for his transformation in character.

Yoo Ah-in in "Wandeugi" is rebellious boy from a poor family Wandeug-I. As much as it's a role that matures along with kickboxing, he has been hardworking in learning kickboxing.

A manager of an actor said, "Although the project was really good and was decided easily, it isn't easy training for a specific sport like a professional sportsman. Watching my actor suffer from the side also made me think if this was or wasn't a good idea".

Hyun Jung-Hwa (Hangul: 현정화, Hanja: 玄静和) (born October 6, 1969 in Busan, South Korea) is a former female table tennis player from South Korea who competed in the 1988 Summer Olympics, and in the 1992 Summer Olympics.

Hyun is one of an elite group of players who have won at least one gold medal in every discipline they were eligible to compete in at the World Championships. Her first gold medal came in the women's doubles (partnering Yang Young-Ja) at the 1987 Worlds in New Delhi. She then followed it up by winning the mixed doubles title with Yoo Nam Kyu at the 1989 Worlds in Dortmund. Hyun was part of the Unified Korea team that stunned China to win the women's team event at the 1991 World Championships in Chiba City. Her final World title was an unexpected win in the women's singles event at the 1993 World Championships in Gothenburg

On 10th, actress Ha Ji Won attended a table tennis match and an image was captured featuring Ha Ji Won sitting next to Hyeon Jeong Hwa, the table tennis association executive.

 

Ha Ji Won, who will be working on her next movie project ‘Korea’ (working title) playing exactly the character Hyeon Jeong Hwa.   Based on a true story, in 1991 at the world table tennis championship held at Chiba, Japan, the  representatives from North and South Korea overcame great difficulties but joined hands and defeated the unbeatable Chinese team in one night.  The story of  Hyeon Jeong Hwa and Yi Bun Hui playing double as a team has touched many people until this date.  Ha Ji Won has been receiving lessons from Hyeon Jeong Hwa herself and been practice since February this year.

 

I have a feeling this movie will be another great one by Ha Ji Won.  The story is inspiring and moving, plus Ha Ji Won’s dedication and skills, ‘Korea’ is definitely something to look forward to.

Actress Ha Ji-won and Bae Doona are training for their roles as table tennis players.

Ha Ji-won and Bae Doona have the roles of table tennis players in diector Moon Hyeon-seong's movie "Korea" and it's being said that they are almost as good as pros.

A movie staff conveyed, "I hear Bae Doona had once been a table tennis player when she was young. Therefore she has the basics and has skills close to those of a pros. Ha Ji-won has good athletic skills so she is absorbing this sport very quickly".

The star table tennis player of Korea, coach Hyeon Jeong-hwa is also advising them according to their training and visiting the site often, raising expectations for the movie.
