Guest mhelbenito
mrdimples said: posted on drama threadWhy 7th Level Civil Servant is a 10 for Me #1 Predictive Ability Are Not Restricted To Analysts or Clairvoyants. Yesterday,on Joo Won thread, @mhelbenito post a 7LCS picture which I did before the drama started, I did a double take when I saw it. I had forgotten entirely the poster which I did in jest and satire in light of certain events happening on this thread. Little had I known then that my crystal ball actually works, although way too accurate for my liking. - I actually realized that maybe because of higher expectations, being from a writer/movie that hit blockbuster, and our prince of ratings, a lot of us has forgotten the lightness of the drama or didn't get the humor of 7G. We might have taken the drama too seriously (isn't it because the other rival drama is a serious spy drama). The writer might want it to be satirical and self-mockingly funny (like King of Dramas) and slapstick humorous (remember the klutzy spies in Naked Guns, Johnny English, Police Academy, Austin Powers, Get Smart, etc... which means, this is nothing new in the movie industry). Not to add, Spy Myungwol, talking about the ridiculousness of the plot (operation kidnap a South Korean Kpop star, marry him and send him to N. Korea, cause the North needs artists like him) . Not to mention Lee Jin wook's unsexy/lousy action stunts, haha, why am i laughing whenever he dodges and punches. Sexy points just went a couple of notches down).... So does it means, a lot of the viewers didn't buy it's pun intentions? #2 The Higher The Expectation, The Greater The DisappointmentThis drama was written by the same writer who wrote the box office hit of the movie itself. We just didn’t know he had a lobotomy between then and now. It was actually greatly anticipated by a number of bloggers and fans but alas, it fell short of expectation- Like i mentioned above, coming from a box office hit flick and prince of ratings, people were expecting a lot from these two Titans. I don't know if we didn't just get the humor, or there are a lot of recycled material and plots, or the writer was so pressured in meeting up with the deadlines that he had ran out of ideas. Like a few fries short of a Happy Meal. But actually, 7G had a great start though. For me, the first 5 episodes were way too fast for me. Impressively fast. I was kinda hoping they did more episodes about the "training days". #3 Who Needs Weapons When You Have A Quick Reflexes? No one learns from the fiasco of WMD. Who needs guns when all you need is a quick foot. Did I see a disclaimer at the end of the drama that states no actor or part of was hurt in the filming of this drama? I really should go and check it out myself. - haha i felt bad for Han Gil ro for having Blue balls all the time (literally and figuratively). Why this guys always gets kicked in the nuts? (remember Mok Dan's groin attack to Lee Kangto ) #4 When Being Shallow Saves Your Sanity I gave up on the convoluted plot of technology espionage, corporate spies, false identities and what nots because when I saw a hawtie like this brooding and smokin’ in the bathtub, I just wish the water level went shallower than my brain. - I agree!! The moment I gave up on the plot, that's when I enjoyed the story once again, just like when I did in the early episodes. I remember on one Joowoonie's interview, he said "7G is something that is light and funny. You don't have to think that much when watching it." So did I..... Sometimes shallowness is a bliss! The only thing that made my bubble burst was the stinginess of writer-nim to give us the love scene. It had us waiting for the entire 20 episodes for just a subliminal curtain call, but it's better than nothing. In the end, we agreed to settle for less. #5 Godsend Gifts Aren’t Always AppreciatedI can’t really pin point whose fault it is. Was Gilro’s lips getting in the way too often or was Seo Won blind in rejecting of that godsend gift thrust upon her? All I know is that there are thousands of women in the queue for that gift. - Hahaha Tell me about it!! One man's trash is another man's treasure. What one doesn't appreciate, the next one will. I guess she just realized that on the last episode. #6 Clear Your Wardrobe, You’ll Never Know When You Need It. One of my first tasks after writing this piece is to clear my wardrobe and paint it white. I never knew I could stuff a man inside my wardrobe. If he looks anything like Gilro, I am willing to go nude in order to sacrifice space. - Confession: It might sound funny, but been there, done that... It actually worked!! Only, that I have a bigger closet... #7 Watching KDramas Need Not Be Bad For HealthI actually found watching this drama to be quite beneficial to health. I toned up muscles hurling furniture at my computer screen, increased my heart rate to the target range whilst bolted to my chair and I strengthened my eye muscles with some major eye rolling exercise. Last but not least, I had a toilet break every episode and didn’t end up with a urinary tract infection. - After embracing the fact that the plot is ridiculously messy and it can get messier as time goes by, it felt better.... It was a feel-good series for me. I had my biggest laugh this 2013 and thanks to 7G. And yeah, the sole purpose of Seowon's parents, bathroom breaks! LOL #8 Forgive and ForgetI think ‘forgive and forget’ is the central theme to the drama. If only the villains were to forgive and forget and live their lives well, that’s the best revenge. So the next time, your boss stabs you in your back, takes credit for your work and tells you to sacrifice for his career, buy him a drink and toast to his good health. You have achieved the highest level of kdrama sainthood. May the same apply to you in real life. - Thank God, Gu Jun Pyo isn't watching: "If everything works out by saying sorry, then why would there laws in the world and why would there be police?" (Boys over Flowers) (uhm does NIS count Jun Pyo? I think they've just forgiven them) After 20 episodes, little did we realize, that it only takes a sorry and a hug to end everything. >< >< >< #9 Victory Comes to Those Who Are Patient After weeks of running after his target and enduring all the slapping, face scratching, hair pulling, plate licking, groin kicking and other red-card fouls, our hero scores a GOAL! And viewers could take a deep breath after almost turning blue from anticipation. - Patience is a virtue. Though it was subliminal. A goal is still a score! Since in soccer/futbol, you sometimes win by just scoring 1. #10 Drink And Make Merry With Your Kdrama FriendsEven when the drama sucks and I suffer more misery than expected, having friends on this thread to rave, squeal, spazz, cry, rave or rant makes all the difference. So my last lesson is when your drama turns out to be a lemon, make lemonade and enjoy it in the company of friends. - Actually, more than just lemonade. When our drama turns turns out to be a lemon, we got a bottle of tequila and some salt, and ranted and partied like crazy here on thread.. <:-P <:-P I thank all chingus on this thread for making my viewing of this drama a memorable one because we went through thick and thin together. This drama received so much hate in blogs everywhere that it became fashionable to raze it to the ground. Although we do criticize and get exasperated, I know that deep down inside us, we want this drama to do better and we held out to the very end. - Thank you @mrdimples for your recaps, and to everyone who stayed til the end And as we all know, someone has to pay for all this farce. coolreborn
mrdimples said: posted on drama threadWhy 7th Level Civil Servant is a 10 for Me This is the 3rd draft I am writing for my postmortem of the drama. Watching the drama was not easy, why should I expect writing it to be any easier? The first draft read like cussing, the second still angry, so I decided this one should be light and fluffy like the drama itself instead of me attempting to be a serious drama critic. After all, I know there are a number on this thread who are able to write more intellectual and serious stuff than me. I think most of us agree this is not the best drama by any standard. I hope that my 1,400 minutes spent watching it and millions of minutes tearing my hair over it shall not be wasted. There are always lessons we can take from any experience, be it a good or bad. So I shall present the 'perfect 10' lessons I have learnt from watching 7LCS #1 Predictive Ability Are Not Restricted To Analysts or Clairvoyants.
