Jang Dong-gun Voted Korea’s Most Bankable Star

Who is the most popular star in Chungmuro, Korea’s Hollywood? The Chosun Ilbo asked the country’s 12 most influential film producers, who are thought to be the most realistic in evaluating the commercial value of actors and actresses, “How many viewers do you think a movie will attract across the country if it stars a certain actor or actress?” Based on the results, we have listed the most 10 appealing actors and actresses. This is the third survey of its kind after 2002 and 2003.

Clockwise from top left, Jang Dong-gun, Song Kang-ho, Kwon Sang-woo, Cha Seung-won, Cho Seung-woo, Kang Hye-jeong, Kim Sun-a, Lee Young-ae, Jun Ji-hyun and Moon Geun-yeong.

Jang Dong-gun and Moon Geun-yeong topped the list, with their pulling power estimated at 1.43 million people and 1.29 million people. Among the men, Jang was followed by Song Kang-ho, Kwon Sang-woo, Cha Seung-won and Cho Seung-woo, and among the women, Moon was followed by Jun Ji-hyun, Lee Young-ae, Kim Sun-a, and Kang Hye-jeong.

Picked by 10 out of 12 producers, Jang is now Korea’s most bankable actor. It seems the result reflects expectations for his movies “The Promise” and “Typhoon” scheduled for release late this year.

Moon, who has become the apple of everyone’s eye since she starred in the movie “My Little Bride” last year, emerged as a dark horse beating all-time favorite Jun Ji-hyun.

Han Suk-kyu, who ranked first in the first survey and 13th in the second, has dropped to 22nd place. Bae Yong-joon fell to a poor 28th place from sixth, showing that while he may be Japan’s favorite son-in-law, he certainly isn’t Korea’s.

KWAK Jae-yong’s Cyborg Girl in ten countries

My Sassy Girl (Yeopgijeokin Geunyeo) director KWAK Jae-yong’s latest film Cyborg Girl will be cinematically released in ten countries, including Korea. The romantic comedy is a Japanese production and stars the Japanese actors Ayase Haruki and Koide Keisuke in the leading roles.

Cyborg Girl will kick off its grand international tour in Japan on May 31. KWAK wrote and directed the romantic film. The big budget film includes several special effects laden scenes.

Ayase Haruki plays the titular cyborg girl who becomes involved with an earthly university student, portrayed by Koide Keisuke. Cyborg Girl is somewhat quintessentially KWAK as the sci-fi film features a dominant (cyborg) girl who doesn’t hesitate to use physical force against the man of her affection, similar to My Sassy Girl.

My Sassy Girl is one of the early ‘Korean Wave’ films which achieved great popularity in Japan and other Asian countries, turning its stars JUN Ji-hyun and CHA Tae-hyun into stars all over Asia.

KWAK also directed the romantic drama The Classic with CHO Seung-woo, SON Ye-jin and ZO In-sung. The Classic is another pan-Asian success film and the film’s soundtrack also gained popularity because of its catchy title song Neoege Nan Naege Neon (the music video of The Classic's title song on YouTube:

), equally known and loved among the film’s Asian female fans.

Ayase Haruki acted in last year’s Japanese blockbuster Hero which also featured the international star LEE Byung-hun. Koide Keisuke’s resume mainly includes television dramas. LEE Byung-hun is also starring in the upcoming I Come with the Rain (director Anh Hung Tran, also starring Josh Hartnett) and the big budget Hollywood film G.I. Joe.

I am a huge fan of SYJ & SSH (like him ever since Autumn's Tale) so much that I will watch them in any drama until the end. There were some parts in Summer Scent that could be improved, but I like it overall. Mabye I'm biased toward this absolutely gorgeous couple. I saw it many times too.

'지진희·손예진' VS '온에어 4인방'

톱스타들이 수목드라마 1위를 놓고 2주간 치열한 격전을 벌이게 됐다.

톱스타들이 빅매치를 벌일 드라마는 SBS 수목드라마 '온에어'(극본 김은숙, 연출 신우철)와 MBC 새 수목드라마 '스포트라이트'(극본 이기원, 연출 김도훈, 주연 지진희·손예진).

이 두 드라마의 대결은 '온에어'가 3회 연장방송을 결정하면서 성사되었다.

'스포트라이트'는 오는 5월 14일 첫 방송이 예정되어 있었다.

하지만 '온에어'가 3회 연장을 결정하며 5월 22일까지 방송을 계획함에 따라, 5월 14일 부터 2주간 맞대결이 불가피해졌다.

연장방송에 대해 SBS 드라마국의 고흥식 CP는 "'온에어'가 20%대의 높은 시청률을 기록 중이고 후속작인 '일지매' 방송 준비에 시간을 주기 위해 '온에어'의 3회 연장 방송을 결정했다"며 "오는 5월 22일 23회를 끝으로 막을 내릴 예정"이라고 밝혔다.

하지만 방송계 일각에서는 최근 수목극에서 고전을 면치 못한 MBC가 야심차게 준비하고 있는 '스포트라이트'가 주목을 받을 것을 우려해, '스포트라이트'를 겨냥한 연장 방송을 계획한 것이 아니냐는 의혹도 제기하고 있다.

이에 대해 고흥식 CP는 "시청자들에게 사랑받는 드라마를 조금이라도 더 보여드리고 싶은 것일 뿐 특정 방송사나 드라마를 겨냥할 의도는 없다"고 밝혔다.

하지만 제작진들의 의도와는 달리 '온에어'와 '스포트라이트'의 맞대결은 불가피해졌다.

'유종의 미'와 '화려한 스타트'를 위해 정면 충돌하게 된 두 드라마. 시청자들이 어느 드라마의 손을 들어줄 지 관심이 모아지고 있다.

[마이데일리 = 장서윤 기자] 그동안 주로 스크린에서 활동해왔던 배우들의 안방극장 복귀 행렬이 이어지고 있다.

MBC 주말드라마 '내 생애 마지막 스캔들'로 2년 6개월 만에 TV로 돌아온 정준호(38)에 이어 이병헌(38)·손예진(26)·김지수(36)·송혜교(26) 등 2년에서 길게는 5년간 영화를 통해 활동해왔고 TV를 외면했던 배우들이 안방극장으로 돌아오고 있는 것.

최근 가장 큰 관심을 모으고 있는 배우는 '올인' 이후 5년 만에 드라마행을 결정지은 이병헌. 복귀작으로 첩보 스파이물 '아이리스(IRIS ; 공동극본 에이스토리, 연출 이형민, 제작 태원엔터테인먼트)'를 택한 이병헌은 올해 하반기부터 촬영에 돌입, 내년 상반기 방송을 예정하고 있다.

총 200여 억원의 제작비가 투입된다고 알려진 '아이리스'는 대규모 세트를 위시로 한 화려한 볼거리를 담고 있어 안방극장 '대작화' 바람이 다시 불 것이란 전망이 속속 나오고 있다.

올 초 영화 '무방비도시'에 이어 김주혁과 호흡을 맞춘 '아내가 결혼했다'에 출연, 영화배우로 왕성한 활동을 보여 온 손예진의 복귀도 관심을 끈다.

5월 방송예정인 MBC 수목 미니시리즈 '스포트라이트(극본 이기원, 연출 김도훈, 제작 MBC 스토리허브 )'에 출연을 확정지은 손예진은 2006년 초 SBS '연애시대' 이후 2년 만이다. 방송사 보도국 사회부 기자들의 삶을 그리고 있는 이 작품에서 손예진은 앵커에 도전하는 열혈 사회부 기자로 등장한다.

2005년 MBC '영웅시대' 이후 영화 '사랑할 때 이야기하는 것들' '가을로' '로망스' 등 연달아 영화로 팬들과 만나온 김지수도 3년 만의 TV 복귀작으로 5월 말 방송하는 KBS '태양의 여자(극본 김인영, 연출 배경수, 제작 팬 엔터테인먼트)'를 택했다.

극중 인기 아나운서 신도영 역으로 분하는 김지수는 한재석, 이하나와 연기 호흡을 맞춘다.

2003년 인기 드라마 '풀하우스'에서 표민수 PD와 작업했던 송혜교는 하반기 방송예정인 노희경 작가의 신작 '그들이 사는 세상'으로 표 PD와 다시 한번 조우한다.

영화 '황진이'에 이어 올 초 미국에서 독립영화 '페티쉬'를 촬영하고 돌아온 송혜교는 극중 드라마 PD로 분해 또 한번 연기 변신을 시도할 예정이다.

이처럼 올해와 내년 상반기 스타급 배우들의 TV 귀환이 확정됨에 따라 이들에 대한 기대 효과도 커지고 있다.

특히 이들이 택한 작품은 규모나 캐스팅 면에서도 그간의 TV 공백을 메우려는 듯 '대작'이거나 스타급 작가와의 작업을 앞두고 있어 시청자들의 관심을 더욱 집중시키고 있는 것.

스크린에서 활약하던 이들의 오랜만의 'TV 외출'이 기대만큼의 효과를 거둘 수 있을지 주목된다.

스크린에서 안방극장, 리턴의 이유는? [영화계, TV속으로③]

[마이데일리 = 정경화 기자] 지난해에 이어 2008년 1/4분기 영화계의 불황 바람이 이어지면서 드라마로 복귀하는 배우들에 대한 관심이 높아지고 있다.

오는 7월 개봉을 앞둔 영화 '좋은 놈 나쁜 놈 이상한 놈'의 이병헌은 2003년 방송된 '올인' 이후 5년 만에 드라마 '아이리스'로 안방극장에 복귀한다. 영화 '여자 정혜', '사랑할 때 이야기하는 것들', '가을로' '로망스' 등 영화에만 출연했던 김지수 역시 오는 5월 방송되는 KBS 2TV 드라마 '태양의 여자'로 드라마에 복귀한다. 이외에도 MBC 드라마 '스포트라이트'의 손예진, MBC 드라마 '내 생애 마지막 스캔들'의 정준호, MBC 드라마 '밤이면 밤마다'의 김선아 등이 오랜만에 안방극장에 얼굴을 비춘다.

드라마와 영화를 오가던 배우들이 오랜 공백 끝에 다시 드라마로 돌아오는 데는 복합적인 이유가 작용한다. 지난해 한해 동안 112편의 한국 영화가 개봉됐다. 2006년도 개봉된 108편에 비해 4편이 더 제작됐지만 관객수는 20.8%(서울기준) 감소했다. 지난 1년간 흥행 톱 10위에 랭크된 한국 영화는 '화려한 휴가'와 '미녀는 괴로워'뿐이었다.

지난 몇 년간의 영화 호조로 과부하됐던 자금이 빠지면서 영화 제작 편수가 줄고 촬영을 마쳤지만 개봉되지 못하는 영화가 늘어났다. 덕분에 배우들의 출연작 선택 폭이 줄어들었다. 영화 개봉까지 소요되는 긴 시간 동안 배우는 그 만큼 자신의 인지도를 높일 수 있는 시간을 허비하게 된다. 이런 흐름을 타고 지난 2000년 초반부터 2006년까지의 한국 영화 호황으로 스크린으로 몰려갔던 배우들이 다시 드라마로 복귀하고 있다.

이런 움직임에 대해서 다른 목소리를 내는 배우들도 있다. 200억원대의 대규모 자본이 투자되는 드라마 '아이리스'로 드라마에 복귀하는 이병헌. 이병헌의 소속사 측은 "이제 영화를 마치고 드라마를 해야지 하는 생각으로 드라마 출연을 결정한 것은 아니다. 좋은 작품이기 때문에 매체의 성격과 상관 없이 출연하기로 마음 먹었다"고 설명했다.

[마이데일리 = 고홍주 기자] '치열한 여기자'로 브라운관에 복귀하는 배우 손예진의 '치열한 변신'이 눈에 띈다.

손예진은 MBC 새 수목 미니시리즈 '스포트라이트'(극본 이기원, 연출 김도훈)에서 성공과 꿈을 향해 나아가는 사회부 기자 서우진 역을 맡아 변신에 변신을 거듭하는 열연으로 작품에 대한 기대를 높이고 있다.

극중 서우진은 치열한 경쟁률을 뚫고 방송국 기자로 입사한 씩씩한 사회부 기자. 아직 덜 다듬어진 다이아몬드 원석인 서우진은 각고의 노력과 고생 끝에, 그리고 사회부 캡 오태석(지진희)의 혹독한 훈련으로 인해 앵커로서 꿈을 이뤄낼 예정이다.

특히 극중 캐릭터의 설정이 하나의 특종을 위해서라면 변장, 몰카 등 잠입취재와 경찰과의 기싸움도 마다하지 않는 열혈 기자인 만큼 손예진 역시 다양한 시도를 통해 열혈 배우로 거듭나고 있는 중이어서 눈길을 끈다.

극중 손예진은 며칠간 밤샌 듯한 화장기 없는 얼굴로 급히 경찰서에 달려가는가 하면 경찰에게서 정보를 얻으려고 건들건들 능청스러운 면모를 보여준다. 특종을 위해서는 다방 종업원으로의 위장도 불사하는 그야말로 팔색조 캐릭터라 할 만 하다.

바쁜 여기자의 일상을 최대한 사실적으로 표현하기 위해 감수해야 할 고충도 이만저만이 아니다. 여배우라면 누구라도 외모에 민감할 터인데 며칠간 머리를 감지 않고 촬영에 임한 적도 있다고.

손예진의 이 같은 투혼이 깃든 '스포트라이트'는 국내 최초로 방송사 보도국 사회부 기자들의 직업세계를 리얼하게 보여줄 전문직 드라마로 화제를 모으고 있다.

'하얀거탑'으로 전문직 드라마의 새로운 지평을 연 이기원 작가가 집필하고 '베스트극장' 최다 연출에 빛나는 김도훈 PD가 연출을 맡았으며, '누구세요' 후속으로 5월 14일 첫 방송될 예정이다.
