Guest yansi
these were taken with my minolta hi-matic af2. i like the results from indoor lighting more than outdoor, but i'll need to take more to see. i just bought 10 rolls of expired film that are coming in the mail, i cannot wait! i can definalty see myself using my film camera more than my dslr and point and shoot in the future i have another film camera that i haven't used yet, smena 8m. Guest 8D_heeeeeeeee
CLEAR! Can not let the film thread get lost on the second page. could anyone recommend me any (not heavy) film cameras that would be great for learning/practicing the apertures, etc? and with a built-in light meter i saw the olympus trip above but I would like to know more? thanks The Trip is a neat little camera, very basic in its operation, but still fun to use. It's a pretty, fairly compact, point and shoot, so it's just got a normal viewfinder and fixed focus points (1m, 1.5m, 3m & infinite). It has no manual speed controls (though I believe the two speeds it shoots are, 1/40th and 1/200th), but you can set the aperture manually, or leave it in auto. It has a flash hotshoe. Did I mention it was pretty? Anything else you would like to know? Bragging time. I've finally joined the SLR gang. Default f1.8 50mm lens. Guest kelvin6
^^^ Ah, the Olympus OM-2 was the camera that got me started in photography 10 years ago! I've had this camera in the family (between my Dad and I) for nearly 31 years now. Olympus OM-2 with Zuiko 50mm f1.4 lens My family of Olympus cameras. Guest 8D_heeeeeeeee
Looking good, what lenses do you have there? Sadly when I bought mine, it was just the body, no case, no lens case...but the camera. Hopefully by the end of the year I'll have some nice accessories for it, maybe even another lens if I'm lucky
Guest nowayin
YEAHH for this thread!! thank you strawberry.llamas I found my Dad's SLR lying around the house, I honestly don't really know where to start with it. But the pictures have really got me motivated to just start shooting with his camera, once I get some film reeled into his camera!! I have always thought film is classic and nothing can ever replace the feel to the photos it gives.. I took a class in high school on how to develop my own film, but since I don't have a dark room at home or the right equipment I don't remember much anymore. boo. little mixed girl
ho~ i didn't know there was a 35mm slr camera page. that explains why i got no comments in the dslr page :x my camera is a minolta srt 201. i got it used when i was in high school. my then photography teacher was like, "if you don't have a camera that lets you focus, then you'll fail this class". so, my mom was like "let's see what we can find". it's super heavy, and, while i've grown to like it...i think that 8d_heee's olympus looks cooler :3 (shhh...i don't want the minolta to feel bad...) i took some black and white photos, and it took 2 weeks to develop them (in photography class, it was so fast!). unfortunately, i was only satisfied with a handful the zoom lens is a present from my bf. it was pretty cheap...about $30? Guest 8D_heeeeeeeee
^Lucky that you got to develop your own film in school, my high school closed down the dark room the year I was eligible to take the photography class. They used some excuse about OH&S deeming it unsafe now...boooo My family of Olympus cameras. Oh, flashes, something nice to have for the 2n. Not a fan of the standard Olympus flashes for the OM series (T20, T32 and F280), I want something that will let me adjust the angle of the flash, like that huge Vivitar you have. One thing that's bugging me, will any flash with a sync cable work with the TTL system in the OMs?
Guest kelvin6
^^^ The FP280 is pretty useless on the 2N, because only the OM-4 and possibly OM-3 series can actually use the AutoFP function. The vivitar flashes I use are probably more powerful than the Olympus in terms of guide number, recharge rate and flexibility. The two flashes I will recommend is the Vivitar 5200 or the 5600. Make sure the bottom module (which is interchangable) is the OM module so that you can use the off the film TTL functions on the camera. If cost is an issue, a older Vivitar FD550 will also work well with this camera (under TTL mode) and again make sure you get the Olympus/Minolta version. The cost of these flashes should be pretty low on ebay. You can use the PC connector for flash on the side of the camera, but no TTL functions will be supported. The camera can only compensate in Auto mode via the Off-The-Film Metering that automatically occurs. This site will provide much help in determining what you can use: http://om2n.com/index.htm In terms of TTL cords, Olympus made their own, but its very hard find. Vivitar does have their own but again you really have to dig on ebay for them. Another nice accessory to have is an motor drive for the OM-2. A Olympus Winder 2 would be the best for rapid shooting. A bit of a warning since you have a OM-2, make sure when you replace the batteries, that it is a Silver Oxide type SR44, not a Akaline LR44, the meter will drain excessively if a LR-44 is used. Guest !annaaA.
I'm doing Photography at AS level, my teacher recommended us to get a 35mm film SLR camera, the Pentax K1000. I'm on Ebay right now and the Pentax ME Super and Pentax MZ-50 look similar too... So I was wondering, is there much difference between those cameras and the Pentax K1000? Since the K1000 is the one she recommended then I don't want anything far from it. Also, what lens/es would you guys recommend? Or shall I just get both a 50mm lens and a zoom lens? .-. Guest 8D_heeeeeeeee
*snip* Thanks for the informative post I'll keep my eBay eyes open for some Olympus based Vivitars. You say Olympus/Minolta, so does that mean both systems use the same base? As I've spotted a few Minolta flashes, but wasn't 100% sure if it would be compatible. Since the K1000 is the one she recommended then I don't want anything far from it. I think your teacher recommends a K-1000 as it's a fully manual SLR (minus a DoF preview, I think). The ME Super should be a fine alternative, just make sure it's not the plain ME. You'll also find that the MZ-50 doesn't support Pentax lenses that sport a K-Mount, which nearly all Pentax glass, are. Do some quick Google'ing and you'll find out quite a bit. If your teacher wants you to have something Pentax, pretty much any of the K and M series SLRs will do you fine. Otherwise, any SLR that gives you manual controls should be fine as a student camera. Guest !annaaA.
@8D_heeeeeeeee: Ahh okay, thanks! I guess I'll be safe and just go with the K1000 since I really don't know a lot about these film cameras... Now to hunt for lenses -__-
