배우들은 수많은 사람들의 인생을 대신 살아야하는 운명일지도 모른다.

그들이 작품을 통해 새로운 캐릭터, 새로운 장르에 도전하는 것은 선택이 아닌 필수다. 흔히 전작에서 보여준 이미지와 상반된 캐릭터를 연기할때마다 ‘변신’이라는 표현은 사실 배우에게 쑥스러운 단어인 셈이다.

그러나 배우에게 새로운 도전은 언제나 용기를 필요로 한다. 때로는 육체적-정신적으로 힘든 순간을 감당해야함은 물론, 열심히 연기를 하더라도 관객들이 기존과 다른 자신의 이미지를 어떻게 받아들일지 고민하지 않을 수 없다.

엄밀하게 말해 모든 배우들이 ‘천의 얼굴’을 지니고 있는 것은 아니다. 연기 스타일이나 이미지에 따라 종종 어떤 연기를 해도 매번 비슷비슷해 보이는 배우가 있는가 하면, 변신을 하려고 해도 기존 이미지의 틀에 갇혀 실패하는 경우도 있다. 특히 스타 연기자일수록 위험부담 때문에 아예 모험 자체를 주저하는 배우들도 적지 않다.

연기파 배우 문소리는 최근 두 편의 출연작에서 상반된 캐릭터를 연기하며 평가가 극명하게 엇갈렸다. 판타지 대작 드라마 <태왕사신기>에서는 흑주작의 운명을 간직한 비련의 여인 기하 역을 연기했으나 그동안 보여준 이미지와 상반된 ‘청순가련 캐릭터’로 미스캐스팅이라는 논란에 휩싸이기도 했다.

반면, 최근 개봉한 영화 <우리 생애 최고의 순간>(이하 우생순)에서는 아픈 과거를 간직한 여성 핸드볼 국가대표팀 선수로 등장해 터프한 스포츠 액션을 선보이기도 했다.

초기작인 <박하사탕>, <오아시스>에서부터 <바람난 가족>, <여교수의 은밀한 매력>까지, 문소리는 작품마다 항상 새로운 모습을 보여주는 카멜레온 같은 여배우로 꼽힌다.

최근 출연한 MBC <황금어장>-‘무릎팍 도사’에서 밝혔듯이, 때로는 파격적인 연기에 대한 부담과 작품에 대한 엇갈린 평가들에 여러 번 마음고생을 했다고 털어놨다. 하지만 언제나 몸을 사리지 않고 새로운 것에 도전하는 그녀의 모습은 항상 감독과 관객에게 신뢰를 주는 배우로 꼽히고 있다.

<우생순>에서 문소리와 함께 공연한 김정은도 코믹멜로물의 이미지를 벗고 오랜만에 진지하고 역동적인 캐릭터를 선보였다. 최근 몇 년간 멜로물의 발랄하고 여성스러운 이미지로만 소비되어왔던 김정은은 영화에서 남성에게 의존하는 수동적인 이미를 벗어나, 자아가 강하고 의지가 굳은 주체적인 여성 캐릭터를 보여준다.

또한 청순미인의 대명사 손예진은 영화 <무방비도시>에서 ‘팜므파탈’의 캐릭터에 도전했다. <작업의 정석>에서 자신의 청순한 이미지를 스스로 패러디하는 내숭-작업녀로 재미를 봤던 손예진은 <무방비도시>에서 조직형 소매치기단의 리더로 등장해 짙은 메이크업에 노출이 많은 의상으로 숨겨진 섹시미를 발산하기도 했다.

반면 새로운 도전이 항상 좋은 평가만을 받는 것은 아니다. ‘지성미인’으로 평가받는 김태희는 성급한 연기변신을 강조한 것이 오히려 독이 된 경우다. 첫 영화였던 <중천>의 참담한 실패이후, 절치부심한 김태희는 최근 개봉한 <싸움>에서 기존의 도도하고 세련된 이미지에서 벗어나 전남편과 치열한 육탄전도 불사하는 열혈 여성으로 이미지 변신에 도전했다.

그러나 방송출연을 둘러싼 무리한 영화 홍보는 오히려 마이너스 효과를 불러일으켰고, 정작 영화 개봉 후에는 기대와 달리 그녀의 연기력에 대한 시큰둥한 반응이 이어지며 흥행에서도 큰 재미를 보지 못했다. 내실에 받쳐주지 않은 상황에서 변신만을 과도하게 포장한 것이 오히려 독이 된 경우라 할만하다.

향후 변신이 기대되는 또 다른 스타는 바로 전지현과 문근영이다. <엽기적인 그녀>의 빅히트 이후 마땅한 차기작이 없어 고전했던 전지현은 황정민과 공연한 <슈퍼맨이었던 사나이>를 통해 털털하고 까칠한, 육두문자까지 마다하지 않는 털털한 방송국 PD 역할을 맡았다.

‘국민여동생’ 문근영은 드라마 <바람의 화원>을 통해 ‘남장여인’ 신윤복을 연기하며 5년 만에 브라운관에 복귀할 예정이어서 화제를 모으고 있다.

김태희나 전지현, 문근영은 공주나 요정 같은 판타지적인 이미지가 강한 CF 스타들이라는 공통점이 있다. 비교적 이른 나이에 스타덤에 오른 탓에, 오히려 이미지 관리에 대한 부담으로 배우로서의 행보에 제약이 많았던 케이스라는 공통점도 있다.

단순히 작위적인 ‘망가짐’이나 전작과는 다른 캐릭터에 도전한다는 차원을 넘어 그녀들의 변신이 얼마나 설득력 있게 관객의 마음을 움직일 수 있을지가 관건으로 지목된다.

Moon Geun Young will come back to the television screen after 5 year disappearing. She will perform as the main character in the upcoming ancient drama "Painters of the win." Recently, Moon Geun Young has a short New Year vacation, and she is traveling to Australia.

The drama "Painters of the win" will be filmed at the beginning of March 2008. In this drama, she will perform as a woman who dresses in disguise as a man. Her character also is a talent artist in the ancient North Korea's dynasty. The ancient drama will be released to the audiences in September on SBS channel.

The managing company of Moon Geun Young says, "Moon Geun Young has been going to Australia at the end of January to rest and charge her energy. Her younger sister is studying abroad in Australia. Leading Female Stars Enter a Battle of Generations

Four female leading stars, each representing their respective generations, will heat up the TV screen in 2008.

First up is 40-year-old Korean talent, Choi Jin-Shil. She will star in the MBC weekend drama "Last Scandal". She returns to television from an 8-month hiatus after finishing the drama "Bad Woman, Good Woman".

"Last Scandal" is an intricate love story about a bright and cheerful woman named Hong Seon-Hi and a top star named Song Jae-Bin, that all begins at their high school reunion. Movie star Jeong Jun-Ho is to play Choi Jin-Shil’s counterpart.

Son Ye-Jin is a top star in her twenties, highly reviewed as the next talented star after Choi Jin-Shil to return to the television screen. After her role in the 2006 SBS drama "Alone In Love", Son Ye-Jin makes a huge transformation in this year’s movie "Open City", receiving recognition in the entertainment industry as an excelling actress. Her next production is "Spotlight", an MBC drama to be aired beginning in May.

"Spotlight" is about the passion of local news reporters in their pursuit of the truth and the complications involved with the selection process of reporters. The drama is attracting much attention as Son Ye-Jin plays Kim Eun-Hye, a character based on a former MBC reporter.

Kim Jeong-Eun is a beautiful actress in her thirties, and regarded as one of the most talented actresses on the TV screen to return in June. Kim Jeong-Eun is to star in the drama "My Sweet City", a production by CJ Entertainment. This will be her first debut after the 2006 hit drama "Lovers".

Kim Jeong-Eun’s counterpart roles are to be played by Lee Seon-Gyun and Ji Hyeon-Woo, two male stars capturing the hearts of women in their twenties and thirties.

In the latter half of 2008, Korea’s top teen star Moon Geun-Yeong is to return to television. Moon Geun-Yeong chooses the SBS drama "THe Painter Of The Wind" to make her comeback in 5 years.

This drama takes place during the Joseon Jeongjo period, portraying the life and love of two artistic geniuses, Shin Yun-Bok and Kim Heung-Do. Moon Geun-Yeong raised the interests of television viewers, as she plays the part of Shin Yun-Bok, a woman disguised as a male.

The four top stars become the center of attention as they begin to make their appearances on television sets once again.

배우 문근영이 연기에 전념하기 위해 휴학했다.

성균관대 문과대학 국문학과 2년을 마친 문근영은 최근 휴학계를 냈다.

문근영의 소속사 나무엑터스 측은 "문근영이 이번 학기부터 휴학을 한다. 드라마 촬영에 전념하기 위해서다"고 밝혔다.

문근영은 오는 11월께 방송되는 사전전작제 드라마 '바람의 화원'에 캐스팅 돼 촬영을 기다리며 휴식을 취하고 있다.

문근영은 극중 남장여자로 분한다. 이 작품은 조선시대 두 명의 천재화가 김홍도와 신윤복의 대결을 축으로 하는 소설 '바람의 화원'을 모티브로 한다. 문근영은 극중 신윤복 역을 맡았다.

한 편 문근영은 2월 초 자신의 미니홈피를 통해 2년 만에 연기에 복귀하는 각오를 살짝 내비쳤다. 문근영은 "초심을 잃지 말자. 연기하는 것만으로 충분했던 너의 처음 마음을 잃지 말자"고 적었다. 또 "욕심 부리지 말자. 끝없는 욕심으로 괜한 좌절감에 빠지지 말자. 나를 사랑하자. 너의 모든 생각, 감정을 사랑하고, 감사하자"고 덧붙였다.

문근영은 설 연휴 중 호주 유학 중인 동생을 만나고 귀국했다.

Ji Sung did a cosmetic advertisement with Moon Geun Young

Actor Ji Sung just received an invitation from a famous cosmetic company to be an advertising model for their product. He will film the ads with young Korean actress Moon Geun Young.

By the beginning of July 2007, Moon Geun Young became the spokesman of this product. The director of this product said "After finishing his duty in military service, Ji Sung still keeps his warm, loving, optimistic image as he was before. Therefore, we had invited him to sign an advertising contract for our product."

Continuing, he said that Ji Sung and Moon Geun Young had started to film their ads not long ago. This ads will be aired this coming April.

Moon Geun-young to Help Build a Library in Australia

Korea’s favorite girl-next-door Moon Geun-young is showing her generosity by building a Korean library for young Korean expatriates in Australia. The actress is going to support the library construction by helping out with the cost and donating books.

A source at Moon’s agency Namoo Actors says that Moon has been donating books with her own money since 2006, when she saw during a visit to her relative in Australia how young Korean students there didn’t have enough books or places to learn Korean. She will work with the Linfield Korean School in Sydney to build a permanent Korean library.

Moon has been cast in the leading role of Shin Yun-bok, a famed painter from the late Joseon Dynasty, in a new TV drama titled “Painter of the Wind” to be aired in September.

That's exactly why she did such a picture. "Isn't she so young?" "She's so cute! She's like the baby sister I never had!"

She's 87 born, definitely not too young to smoke. It's going to be tough for her to change image, but she's making a statement.

Actress Donates Money to Promote Book Reading

Actress Moon Geun-young

Actress Moon Geun-young has donated close to 100 million to Morning Reading, a non-profit organization that promotes reading books.

The 20-year-old gave 4.3 million won in 2005, 4 million won in 2006 and 70 million won last year. The popular star of TV drama "Autumn Fairytale" made the contributions secretly through her mother, Ryu Seon-young, but her good deeds became known when Morning Reading revealed its 2007 account information online.

Founded in 2005, Morning Reading encourages elementary, middle and high school students to read books. Moon became acquainted with the organization when Ryu first bequeathed 1 million won, and has since helped whenever there were budget constraints, said the organization, according to Yonhap News.

"When we first received the gift, we thought it was a mistake because it was too much. Later Ryu introduced herself as a librarian at the national library," Han Sang-su, head of Morning Reading, was quoted as saying. "Moon's help was critical to our development."

Moon is affectionately called "the nation's little sister" and has appeared in popular movies like "My Little Bride." She is also known for continuously supporting other causes such as library-building and helping disadvantaged students in small villages, as well as promoting scholarship programs and securing funds for those with terminal diseases.
