The pics were from 2006.. presumably after they finished filming Once in a Summer (around Aug/Sept?) as the captures were for the Cine21 magazine feature on the movie.

Btw, don't forget to check the new ICWTR pics.. 2 pages back.. just as we were waiting for those, they came. Looks like.. the pics with Shawn Yue (that he posted at his blog) were from that face-off scene in the car. Similar shirt, yupyup.

BH is really funny and always teasing, making funny faces when he's not filming (takes the pressure of filming BSL, huh^^).. always laughing. We thought he'd be serious most of the time but even his manager said that he's really funny and always cracking jokes around him.

두 편의 영화로 할리우드에 진출하는 배우 이병헌(38)이 영화 ‘G.I. 조’(G.I. Joe)에서 맡은 역할이 일본 닌자 역할에서 한국인 무사로 수정된 사실이 뒤늦게 알려졌다.

이병헌 소속사 관계자는 최근 뉴스엔과 만난 자리에서 “‘G.I. 조’에서 일본 닌자 역할을 맡은 것으로 알려졌지만 조선인 역할로 수정됐다”며 “조선의 칼을 사용하고 사이버틱한 의상을 입어 신비함을 전해줄 예정”이라고 밝혔다.

또 다른 관계자는 13일 저녁 전화통화를 통해 “이 영화의 만화원작에 일본 닌자 캐릭터가 나온다”면서 “하지만 캐스팅 계약 당시 일본 닌자를 조선인 무사로 바꿔달라는 것을 첫째 조건으로 제시했고 그것이 이뤄진 것이다. 원래 시나리오에 서양 무사가 있고 동양 무사가 있는데 동양 무사를 이병헌이 맡게 된 것”이라고 설명했다.

관계자는 이어 “우리가 서양인을 볼 때 미국인인지 영국인인지 구분을 명확히 하지 않고 신경쓰지 않는 것처럼 할리우드에서도 동양인이면 다 같은 동양인으로 보고 구분하지 못한다”고 전했다.

관계자는 또 “우리에겐 역사적 정치사회적으로 민감한 사안이지만 세계 시장은 일본 애니메이션이 발달돼 있고 일본 시장이 크니 일본인 등 닌자 캐릭터가 유명하다. 중국 삼합회도 많이 알려져 있어 대부분 할리우드에서 아시아인에게 들어오는 역은 그와 관련된 역할이다”며 “일본 홍콩 중국인 등 나라를 나눠 역할을 고르다 보면 캐릭터 폭이 좁아지고 할리우드에 진출할 수 있는 기회도 줄어든다”고 토로했다.

당초 이병헌이 ‘G.I. 조’에서 일본 닌자 역할에 캐스팅됐다는 사실이 알려지자 국내 네티즌들의 비난의 목소리가 있었다.

설연휴 전 미국으로 출국한 이병헌은 ‘G.I. 조’ 촬영으로 올 6월까지 체류한다. 조만간 크랭크인을 하며 이병헌의 분량은 3월부터 촬영을 시작해 6월까지 이어진다. 3월 촬영 시작되기 한 달 반 정도 훈련 등 준비과정을 거친다.

이병헌은 김지운 감독의 ‘달콤한 인생’에서 선보인 연기력과 여러 가지 조건 등을 인정받아 할리우드 진출작 두 편에 연이어 출연하는 행운을 안았다. 이병헌은 할리우드 미남스타 조쉬 하트넷과 어깨를 나란히 한 영화 ‘나는 비와 함께 간다’(I Come With The Rain)와 시에나 밀러, 조셉 고든-레빗 등과 함께 작업한 영화 ‘G.I. 조’를 연이어 선보인다. ‘달콤한 인생’ 김지운 감독과 작업한 영화 ‘좋은 놈 나쁜 놈 이상한 놈’(이하 놈놈놈)은 최근 크랭크업했다.

만화 원작을 바탕으로 제작되는 액션영화 ‘G.I. 조’(감독 스티븐 소머즈)는 테러리스트 집단인 ‘코브라’와 그들과 싸우는 미국 특수부대의 활약상을 그린다. ‘나는 비와 함께 간다’(감독 트란 안훙)는 연쇄살인범을 총으로 쏴 죽인 전직 경찰이 실종된 아들을 찾아달라는 부탁을 받은 뒤 아시아로 떠나면서 벌어지는 이야기를 스크린에 담았다. ‘놈놈놈’ ‘나는 비와 함께 간다’ ‘G.I. 조’는 아직 개봉일은 정해지지 않았다.

Extremes that he's in and he was talking about how it took his co-star (Won-hie Lim) a long time to learn a dance routine he had to do and on the take that he finally got it right LBH burst out laughing at the end of it lol He said he couldn't apologize enough but he couldn't help it because the dance was so funny. I recommend Three... Extremes to anyone who hasn't seen it yet, great film and LBH looks delicious in it

Definitely.. the cast were always laughing during the filming and in the interviews, too. One thing for sure.. every time they have interviews with BH around.. always bursting in good laughs.. easing the mood. BH really gets along well with his co-stars.. be it senior actor Kim Young Chul in BSL or younger SMA and even the ever so shy & quiet, SA in Once in a Summer. But with LWH.. our BH can't help making more NGs than he usually does. I especially love the interview piece they had together.. BH was so shocked (LOL) when LWH called him hyung.. when they're actually the same age. ^^

I got a message from Lee Byung Hun's cousin who also works as his

manager, that they're in LA and they wanted to meet for dinner.

But I'm in Tokyo so I guess dinner will have to wait. His cousin's name is

Charles and he looks a bit like Lee Byung Hun. He's a very nice guy who

went to college in America and speaks English like an American. I would

guess that they come from a lovely family. They are both very warm and

friendly and they are both really intelligent. Lee Byung Hun told me that

he was so nervous when he had to go onstage for his concert. He forgot

his dance steps and he messed up a bit on the piano. He felt so embarrassed

but he said it was because he felt so scared about being on stage in front

of a live audience. He said he knew how to do all those things perfectly well

but once he hit the stage, everything went out of his head. I assured him

that it didn't matter at all. I told him that he seemed very poised and that

his charm and warm personality endeared the audience to him and that we

were all totally won over by him. I think he's a wonderful actor. I especially

liked him in ADDICTED, that's the English title. I don't know for sure what

it is in Japanese. I think he'd be great on stage. And I know it would be

exciting to work with him. I suggested a play to him that I think he'd be

very powerful in. Sorry, but I can't say now what it is. Any guesses?

So, the concert that Mr. Ackerman went was the Arena Tour, cool! Love reading his account watching and meeting BH after the concert. This is such a wonderful sharing. We love Addiction too.. BH's performance was awesome in the movie. :blush:

Doesnt he look so mysterious. Dramabeans indicated that LBH role in GI Joe was revised for him. Storm Shadow is originally a japanese ninja but they reworked the background of the character to a korean warrior at LBH's request.

aWw.. thanks so much zoeve for this latest highlight, it's the latest entry at dramabeans too.. no wonder I didn't see it yet but the search function helps. ^^ I was hoping but not really expecting that dramabeans would mention a bit about BH and the article is awesome & well-appreciated. It's really something that I had never known.. that the background of character role Storm Shadow be changed to avoid unnecessary conflict. .. just dunno how that's going to be perceived by the vast GI Joe fans but like the movie synopsis stated.. it's a futuristic feature with a global ensemble of cast.

Maybe this is why we never heard much about the movie before. Perhaps, BH being in the US so early in the year was to discuss & confirm the amendments.

So, hoping for better results because we all know BH is an excellent actor who can do action and so much more. We definitely wanted bigger things to come to him but it's clear to note that BH himself is actually quite patient and especially, well-prepared. He's definitely not rushing into too-ambitious fanfare but he knows how to get his talent across.. slowly but surely.

Definitely - LBH talent and skill as an actor is undeniable. Its always better to be prepared and achieve success slowly and surely than rush things along and possibly end up with a mediocre result. I admire his patience and attention to detail.

The G.I. Joe movie has started shooting, and the first picture from the set has been released. IESB.net has revealed a picture of Dennis Quaid dressed for his role as General Hawk.

It's a nice clean, crisp military uniform, so it works out well enough. Truthfully, there's no reason to expect that they'll have any trouble bringing the characters that wear traditional military gear to life accurately. What will be interesting to see is how well the more exotic-looking characters are interpreted.

G.I. Joe is being directed by Stephen Sommers, and stars Dennis Quaid, Channing Tatum, Ray Parks, Rachel Nichols, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Said Taghmaoui, Marlon Wayans, Christopher Eccelston, Sienna Miller, Byung-hun Lee, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. The film is scheduled to come to theatres August 7, 2009.

That BSL Director's cut has very cool packaging. Makes me want to whip out my BSL copy and watch the movie again.

I remember that scene when LBH as SunWoo emerged from the mud... it must have been so uncomfortable to be wet, wallowing in a mud pit while there's rain pouring down on you.

Btw, I tool a peek and posted at the GI Joe thread ^^ news of the first day-shoot, thanks for the link. I find it quite surreal actually.. that the production had really started shooting amidst the 'controversy' about the casting, strike, etc. Even BH is already there, practising and waiting for his scenes to start. Kinda overwhelming feeling huh .. might be what our Byunghun is feeling as well. Even as a seasoned & experienced movie actor in Korea, I'm sure he's really excited to be in a full-blown Hollywood production with well-known cast with equal footing in the movie. I believe, it's the experience that he's hoping to achieve in this first time which hopefully will bring him bigger and better opportunities.

Can't wait for updates from LA. Plus the GBW men and ICWTR sexy Hunnie of ours.. wow.. a triple treat indeed!

The 'buried alive' scene is one of my most favourite scene in BSL. It took a lot of determination and painstaking effort from BH as an actor when he performed that scene. Watching the BTS clip, seeing him preparing to be buried alive.. and then.. coming out gasping for air with water & mud gushing in.. without a stunt-double, my admiration for LBH is unshakeable.

I havent fully grasped that the production for this movie have actually started until I saw that picture -- even if it was Dennis Quaid. I was actually excited and cant wait for new publicity photos of LBH for this movie.

I also wonder how his look will change for this role. Remember for GBW he had his left ear pierced then on the ICWTR he had a bunch of rings on his left fingers (he was also quite thin). So I am excited to see how he will differentiate this character from the other characters that he had portayed in the past.

LBH must be nervous and at the same time excited for this movie. The experience of working in Hollywood will be invaluable for him. I wonder what are the differences from producing a Hollywood film to that of a Korean film.

The 'Buried Alive' scene must have been so scary as well. I so admire him -- he didnt have a stunt double! Wow! He has my respect. I do get claustrophobic at times but for that scene there should be NO room for ANY fears.
