S. Korean singer Rain to debut in Chinese film industry

SEOUL, March 4 (Yonhap) -- South Korean singer and actor Rain has been cast in a Chinese film for the first time, his management agency said Tuesday.

Rain will play a talented young painter who falls in love with a woman in a melodrama directed by Gao Xixi, one of China's most famous movie directors, Cube DC said.

Rain to star in "Rosy Cheeks"

Singer Rain is starring in the movie "Rosy Cheeks" directed by Chinese director Gau Xixi$$.

This is Rain's debuting Chinese movie and he takes on the of a man who is the one and only heir to the biggest company in South East Asia. His co-star is Crystal Liu. He starts filming this month in China.

Rain

K-pop star Rain has been cast as a starring actor in a Chinese movie.

Cube DC, his management agency, said on Tuesday the singer will appear in a romantic melodrama directed by Gao Xixi. It will be his first appearance in a film from the world's most populous country. He will star alongside popular Chinese actress Liu Yifei.

Rain has appeared in two Hollywood flicks, "Speed Racer (2008)" and "Ninja Assassin (2009)," displaying a diversity of range with two quite different roles. He won over a new demographic of audience with his portrayal of a stoic warrior in the latter, a slick affair punctuated by bloody action scenes and directed by James McTeigue.

After completing his military service, Rain made a successful comeback by releasing his sixth album "Rain Effect" in January.

Shooting on the film will begin in China in mid-March.

In the pictorials revealed by Harper Bazzar, Rain dressed in colorful suits with flower patterns. He expressed an urban spring look perfectly. According to an inner source, about 1 million copies have been sold already in China.
Previously, Rain was awarded 'Asia Entertainer Grand Prize' at the 2013 BAZAAR Men's Style of the Year Awards in China, proving his popularity as a fashion icon in China.

Singer Rain will be playing the lead role for a Chinese movie titled, "Hong Yan Lu Shui."

This will be his first time playing a role in a Chinese movie and has gained much attention.

This movie will be filmed by a famous director in China named Xixi Gao.

Rain will play the lead role of a man who owns a huge company and finds out the power of true love. His character will also have interest and passion in the arts.

He will be working with popular Chinese actress Liu Yifei. She is an active singer and an actress in China, appearing in several movies including "the Forbidden Kingdom" in 2008. She also released an album in 2006. Her innocent looks gave her the title, "the next Zhang Zi Yi."

The production team stated that they were fans of Rain's acting and that he seemed like the best actor to play the part.

On the other hand, he will also be appearing in the upcoming Hollywood movie, "The Prince."

Rain also appeared on the cover of the Chinese fashion magazine, "Harper's Bazaar." In this magazine that prints more than 1 million copies in China, Rain was featured as "the king of spring." In this cover, Rain is seen with flower-patterned suit and white pants.

Rain also recently appeared as the sole guest in a popular Chinese entertainment TV program, with 90 minutes in air time.

When Rain traveled to the U.S. to film "The Prince" with Bruce Willis, he also stopped in Los Angeles to talk to American film producers about future roles.

He is no stranger to Hollywood sets, having previously starred in two American action films, "Speed Racer," and "Ninja Assassin." American producers are eager to hire the star that actor John Goodman once called "the hardest working man in show business."

And Rain is eager to work, having finished his two-year mandatory military duty last summer.

But after he finishes his role in "The Prince," he will not be heading to Hollywood or even Korea. He has signed on to star in a project that will be filmed in China.

According to his management agency, Cube DC, he has taken a role in a Chinese melodrama.

Although the singer and actor is best known for his tough guy action roles, this role will call on him to express a more sensitive side.

He will play Shui Chung Shuin, a talented young painter who falls in love.

"Rain has so far shown his masculine appeal playing mostly tough and heroic characters in his Hollywood films," said a Cube DC representative. "The film will give him a chance to totally change his image."

Gao Xixi, one of China's most famous drama directors, will direct the drama. Liu Yifei, a popular Chinese actress, model and singer will play the woman that Rain falls in love with. Liu Yifei appears in her own Hollywood action film this year, "Outcast" with Hayden Christensen and Nicholas Cage.

A representative from the project's production crew said that Rain is perfect for the part of the drama's main character.

"Rain definitely has that star quality that is required to play the main role in the storyline," said the production crew representative. "We thought that he suited the smart and artistic character of Shui Chung Shuin."

The as-yet-untitled project will begin shooting in Shanghai in mid-March.

Rain may be best known as a singer and producer but he has earned considerable praise for his acting efforts. He won a KBS Best new Actor Award for his first drama role in "Sang Doo! Let's Go To School" and an Excellence in Acting award for his role in the k-drama "Full House." He appeared in the Korean films "I'm a Cyborg But That's Okay" and "R2B: Return To Base," before fulfilling his mandatory military service.

World star Rain has been confirmed as the leading actor in an upcoming Chinese movie.

While the multitalent has appeared on multiple Hollywood films, this will be his first time to act in a Chinese movie. He will be playing an artistic and passionate young painter, who also happens to be the only heir of a large East Asian enterprise. His love interest will be top actress Liu Yifei, and their dramatic love story will be the driving force of the movie.

Titled “Hong Yan Lu Shui” (working title), the filming will begin in mid-March. The movie will be directed by the famous Gao Xixi, who is the mastermind behind dramas “Three Kingdoms” and “Shanghai Bund.” 

A Chinese production representative commented, “We decided to cast Rain for the role as the character is smart and completely in love with art, and there is a need for high level of concentration in order to lead the story as the main character, not to forget Rain’s star quality.”

Most recently, Rain has been filming the upcoming Hollywood flick “The Prince.”

Following the news of BEAST’s Yoseob being cast for the musical “Full House,” other cast members have been confirmed such as A Pink‘s Jung Eun Ji and VIXX‘s Leo.

The lead male role of Lee Young Jae will be played by Yoseob, VIXX’s Leo, Kim San Ho and Seo Ha Joon. The leading female role of Han Ji Eun will be played by Jung Eun Ji, JOO and Kwak Sun Young.

Other cast members include Woo Geum Ji, BESTie’s Uji, Min Woo Hyuk, Honey Finger 6‘s Han Kyung Soo, Ham Seung Hyun and Kim Nam Ho.

“Full House” is based on the popular comic by Won Soo Yeon. The comic was adapted into a KBS drama in 2004 with Rain and Song Hye Gyo playing the two leads.

“Full House” the musical will open on April 11.
