Rain, charged for poor duty?

Singer Rain (Jeong Ji-hoon) and his agency explained the rumors about him being charged for poor duty as a soldier.

Cube Entertainment spoke with Sports Dot Com on the 28th and said, "They say indictment has been submitted but we haven't got any calls yet. It's too early to say anything".

Seoul Central Courts said, "Reports have been made against Jeong Ji-hoon for frequent vacation and violation of military regulations".

Rain was admitted to the army on the 11th of October 2011. He was titled 'star soldier' on the 24th of February and started serving duty in the national defense department. However, he'd been spotted going on dates with his lover, Kim Tae-hee, since January and was suspected of violating military rules and was put on probation. Although his actions were highlighted as a problem, he completed his duty in recent July without much discipline.

SBS TV show "On Site 21" pin pointed this fact out and 'A' put this to matter.

Singer Rain under prosecution probe over alleged military code breaches

SEOUL, Nov. 28 (Yonhap) -- K-pop star Rain is under investigation by prosecutors on charges of violating the military code of conduct during his mandatory service, prosecution officials said Thursday.

The probe comes after an unidentified person had filed a charge against the 30-year-old singer, whose real name is Jung Ji-hoon, for spending too many days off duty before being discharged in July, they said.

The prosecution said Thursday it is investigating popular singer Rain on suspicion of breaking military rules when he served as an “entertainment soldier.”

According to Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office, an unidentified citizen filed a complaint with the Gangnam Police against the singer, whose real name is Jung Ji-hoon. The police referred the case to the prosecution in August.

“We are currently investigating the case and Jung can be summoned if needed,” an official from the prosecution office said.

“Though he was discharged, the statute of limitations is still in effect, so he can be punished if illegalities were found during his service,” she added, refusing to disclose further details.

Jung, discharged from his service in July, was disciplined in January for frequently taking leaves and breaking military dress code, while dating top actress Kim Tae-hee.

That prompted some to question whether entertainment soldiers like Jung were given preferential treatment compared to other soldiers.



During his service, he was punished for violating the Military Criminal Act, but he now faces the prosecutors’ investigation as a civilian.

In June, there was a separate scandal that a number of entertainment soldiers visited a massage parlor to buy sex, which was followed by the abolishment of the entertainment soldier system.

But, it was later confirmed the top hallyu star was not involved in the scandal and he was released from his service as scheduled.

Singer Rain (aged 30, his reals name is Jung Ji-hoon) is going to have a comeback performance through Mnet TV's reality program before next January 6th’s scheduled official comeback with his new album. The plan for Rain's having a comeback performance is expected to go ahead regardless of being accused of neglecting his duties in the army by ordinary person A.

 

Rain broke the news of his next January 6th's comeback while performing in special highlights at 2013 MAMA held in Hong Kong's Asia World Expo Arena last 22nd. He'll be returning to the stage with his self-titled album four years after his enlistment in 2010.

 

Mnet TV will also organize a reality program about Rain's daily living and about the process of his preparation for the comeback. Fans have been more exited by the anticipation of his comeback to the stage since they saw a clip from the program. The program organization has not yet been settled, but the program will be aired in the middle of next month or at the end of next month, before the release of his new album.

 

But, Rain has fallen into an ambush by being accused of neglecting his duties in the army by ordinary person A, and the case is presently being investigated by South Korean prosecutor's 8th Detective Department.

Afterwards, his minor outing and staying out were also subjects of considerable debate, but he was discharged from the army last July 10th without having severe penalty to deal with when the controversy over entertainment soldiers surfaced last June.

 

A, an ordinary person, who watched SBS's Eyewitnesser21 satirizing the reality of entertainment soldiers, is known to have sued Rain for not going unpunished.

Rain ignores accusations

Despite once again being investigated for allegedly shirking his military service, Hallyu star Rain is concentrating on his comeback, said the singer’s agency yesterday.

Rain already told the world that his new album would be out on Jan. 6 during his performance at the Mnet Asian Music Awards last week in Hong Kong. But after news broke Thursday that a private citizen had filed a complaint to the prosecutors’ office about Rain’s military service, accusing him of breaking regulations by meeting with his girlfriend while serving, rumors started to swirl that he might delay his comeback to let the controversy blow over.

However Rain’s agency, confirmed that it is basically going to ignore the complaint for now.

When Rain was discovered to have violated regulations by meeting his girlfriend, the military put him on probation for a week. But the military said he was not guilty of any other violations, and he was allowed to finish his military service in July without incident.

In addition to the album and a role in the Hollywood movie “The Prince,” Rain is also said to be getting ready for a reality program about his life, to be produced by music cable channel Mnet.

Rain will be continuing with his comeback schedule as planned, despite facing an investigation for failure to carry out military duties after a complaint by an ordinary citizen.

Rain performed at the 2013 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) in Hong Kong on November 22, and revealed his plan to return to the music scene next year on January 6. His first in four years, this new album will include songs written by Rain himself.

He is also working with Mnet on a reality program that will document his daily life and comeback process. Rain has gotten fans excited with the teaser that was shown at the 2013 MAMA, and while details have not been fully worked out yet, the program will be aired beginning mid- or end-December before Rain’s album is released in January.

However, Rain is currently facing issues once more with regards to allegations of military misconduct. The Seoul Central District Prosecutor’s Office has begun an investigation into the matter, after receiving a complaint lodged by an ordinary citizen.

For now, Rain’s agency and Mnet are going forward with his comeback as planned. Another source gave their careful opinion on the matter. “On the grounds that investigations against him by the Ministry of Defense have already been concluded, and he has received probation and been  discharged from military service, it will be difficult for him to receive additional punishment.”

Rain entered the active military service in October 2011, and gained the celebrity soldier title in February 2012. However, after news of his dates with Kim Tae Hee surfaced, Rain was put under probation for violation of military conduct. There were further small issues of leaving camp and nights out, but Rain did not face severe disciplinary action in the June controversy involving celebrity soldiers. He was discharged from service in July.

Aside from his new album and reality program, Rain has also been cast in the movie “The Prince,” directed by Brian A. Miller, costarring Bruce Willis and John Cusack.
