I know it's late, It's 2.20 am in the morning, I just could not keep this to myself...

HE WASSSSS AWESOME.    :lol:Who cares what the critics says..

GOD it was soo good. Tyty you know me rite, I didn't watch cyborg or speedracer.. I hate both movies

and I am not afraid to admit it... so I am not bias at allll ^_^ kekeke .. NINJA ASSASSIN WAS GREAT..

I love it more than any movies... It has to be the best movie ever.. (And I am such a movie addict)..

Everyone concentrate so serious, No one went to the toilet .. I swear.. my seat was next to the exit door.

I can't get enough of it .. I guess it could be that some part was quite dark, and that what makes me want to

watch again and again.. I just couldn't get enough of it. I didn't feel anything at all.. I mean the blood.. I was

concentrating on him and I didn't see anything else..

All this while I tot I would be drooling over his body and guess what?? I couldn't care less about his body, I am

more interested in his move... he was so flexible.. It look like he was dancing.. It was beyond my expectation I was

expecting a B rate movie, you know.. the 2 star movie, with stupid plot and nothing to look forward to except Rain.

I was wrong, It may not be an academy award kinda movie.. The plot is just fine, the story is good enough for me, but

Rain is something else... no word to describe him..

I am a twilight freak, but Rain won.... I use to think Twilight is THE movie for me, I use to be in love with a vampire. and

now my old flame seem to win my heart back. He is back at the top. Now I am totally irrevocably in love with a ninja..

I can feel that it will be a box office movie... Rain buckle up.. get set for the ride of your life....

Now I can breathe... whatever the outcome.. I am proud of him... so proud..

PS will watch it again today evening...

Look like I am fallin in love all over again.. Everyone seem to like it.. the theater was full.. 80% was guy.. and

no one complaining... it was so quiet, I can feel it I swear... I am not bias.

I love all Steven Seagal movie and I feel like Rain is as good as him (I know it's choreograph).. Look so original

unlike some kungfu movie. There some scene where they make him move in slow motion and we can see Rain

moves..vividly.. every moves, every part of the muscle flexed, tense.. so clear and it is all his muscles and moves..

not some double arm or butt.. or torso.. That another reason make it realistic..

He look like he learn martial art all his life and not just a mere 6 months..

I have written couple weeks ago that I don`t have high hopes with Ninja Assassin...

I just hoped that he will be recognized by general public in the west - especially by more good directors and producers.

His young so even if it will be a next flop with his determination he won`t give up.

But when I saw vids of Rain in Lotte Hotel in Seoul promoting NA I thought that ... he really likes this movie and he`s proud of it. What`s more he surely believes that this movie can become a turning point in his career.

From that moment I was even more exited about NA ;)

I`m still not sure if it will be a box office hit but it may have similar path as V for Vendetta (not so many viewers during the first days of screening but eventually good results).

Only time will tell B)

Next good reviews (as I don`t want to share bad ones :P )

[11-26] [Review] Ninja Assassin - Filmstage

source:http://thefilmstage.com/2009/11/25/review-ninja-assassin/

Ninja Assassin is a somewhat underwhelming action flick, but it also delivers enough gloriously bloody action to make it entertaining. While the film never fully lives up to it’s potential, it still contains enough redeemable qualities. It’s fantastic climax, the overly stylized visuals, and some bloody good kills make it all the more fun.

Ever since he was a boy Raizo (Rain) has been trained to be the perfect killing machine. He was raised by the Ozunu Clan, a secret society packed full of deadly ninjas. One day he decides to leave the clan due to moral differences and after they slay his love interest/best friend. From there on he’s lived his life in the shadows going unrecognized, until now. When Europol agent Mika Coretti (Naomie Harris) comes across a dirty money trail and the deaths of prominent politicians, she discovers the ninja clan is actually all behind this. Now with her life in plenty of danger Raizo must protect her by fighting off the Ozunu Clan.

The fairly conventional story line is generic and features plenty of predictable plot points. The main issue is the character Mika Corretti. She’s a lifeless and unneeded character. Mika plays a prominent part in the story, but all of her scenes are as boring as the next. There’s plenty of government and chain of command babble that comes from her story line and its all utterly useless. Raizo’s side of the story is much more involving. From being brainwashed as a child, rejecting his life in Ozunu Clan, and to seeking revenge. Those are the most engaging aspects and should have been the main focus.

Super pop star Rain actually ends up delivering a fairly adequate performance. He handles all the action scenes well and even pulls off the dark and ominous persona. What could have been a very cheesy and overdramatic performance is actually a memorable action hero. Besides Rain, everyone else is just there. No one else in the cast truly stands out. While Harris is decent enough in the role she still creates a forgettable co-star mostly due to the script. It doesn’t help that she has to deliver a few questionable lines of dialogue and features a lackluster character arc.

James McTeigue showed pure potential with his excellent debut V for Vendetta and now he’s delivered a notable follow up. While Assassin isn’t on the level with V for Vendetta, it still certifies McTeigue as a true talent. The main reason why this film skids by as a fun action film is due to McTeigue’s visual style. He fills the screen with a lush beautiful aesthetic with a fair amount of glaringly red CGI blood. While some have quibbled about the use of CG blood, it fits perfectly with the over-the-top style. While most of the action scenes are highly entertaining, they don’t truly shine until the third act. When bazookas and ninjas are thrown into the mix it equals pure fun.

It wouldn’t be a unfair for one to call this style over substance, because for the most part that’s what it is. It truly entertains because of the action and the visuals while the story is completely forgettable. It’s a fun non-stop blood bath that is ultimately quite enjoyable.

[11-26] Ninja Assassin Review - Cinemalogue

http://www.cinemalogue.com/2009/11/25/ninja-assassin/

In contrast to this week’s Asian epic, Red Cliff, Ninja Assassin is pure shlock—hysterically entertaining. Directed by James McTeigue (V for Vendetta), the action flick opens with a Yakuza gangster getting tattoed by an old man (Randall Duk Kim). Angered by the tattoo master, he brandishes a golden handgun and threatens violence. The old man spots a sealed envelope containing black dust. This, he warns, is the mark of a ninja assassin so powerful he may as well be a demon. Inside of a minute, the gangster and all his cronies are thrashed, slashed and hacked to pieces.

While splattering and spraying a shade of red that humans just do not bleed, the stealthy ninja isn’t a demon. He is Raizo, played by Asian pop superstar Rain; there’s an inside joke when one Europol agent quips he looks like he’s in a boy band. Raizo was orphaned at youth and picked up by Ninjutsu master Ozunu (martial arts flick veteran Shô Kosugi). He and other students were beaten, kicked, berated and traumatized into becoming merecenary assassins to aid in Ozunu’s commercial gain.

He’s as devoted a disciple of the way of the ninja as ever there has been. However, his breaking point is reached when a fellow ninja abductee he likes, Kiriko (Anna Sawai) is maimed by Ozunu for disobedience. The only positive force in Raizo’s life, she escapes the training camp, and he is left with nothing but his rage. It’s a shallow parable of unrequited love, protective instincts, and so on, but the film doesn’t drown you in it or take itself too seriously—whole pints of fake blood sloshing this way and that.

The tension mechanism involves two investigators for Europol, Maslow (Ben Miles) and Mika (Naomie Harris). Mika uncovers connections between several clans, including the Ozunu clan, convincing Maslow to let her pursue it further despite his initial objections. This is, of course, just the semblance of a plot thrown together from many cop dramas as the fluff between action sequences of violence porn.

But it’s reliable violence porn. Hand-to-hand combat is delivered by the busload—literally. At one point, Ozunu’s students come after Raizo one after another, like expendable video game characters. I wondered what bus they drove in to get there. Minutes later, Raizo escapes out a window and lands on… a VW bus!

There’s no particular mystery or intrigue going on here. The only astonishing thing is, with the degree of injuries that Raizo sustains, there’s no threshold for a viewer to ascertain at what point he is actually in mortal danger. At any time that he looks he might be, ninja magic can be invoked and—poof—he’s healed. One minute he’s chained to a wall, and the next he’s miraculously freed with just fractions of a second to spare before men with guns riddle him with bullets.

Produced by the Wachowskis—Larry and Andy—who rose to fame with The Matrix, and an homage to Asian martial arts films and Japanese Anime, Ninja Assassin fetishizes violence to the point where it’s simply absurd to question the logic or physics at work. The only complaint might be that the limits of the actors’ abilities as martial artists are concealed in shadows—tight angles; footage sliced and diced more than Raizo’s victims. It’s nowhere near the calibre of martial artistry as to be found in Shô Kosugi’s classics, including Nine Deaths of the Ninja.

As a viewer, your only task here is to watch, eat popcorn, and laugh, jump or shriek—whichever works for you—whenever you see heads roll, limbs fly or or hemoglobin spurting.

[11-26] Sound Off: Ninja Assassin -Your Thoughts? Firstshowing

http://www.firstshowing.net/2009 ... ssin-your-thoughts/

Now that you've seen it, what did you think? Its been 4 years since former Matrix assistant director James McTeigue brought us V for Vendetta, and now he's back with a new movie called Ninja Assassin. Considering it's a movie about ninjas starring Korean pop star turned actor Rain, that means it should be pretty awesome right? But all the reviews have been mixed so far. Is the story as bad as they say it is? Is the action at least awesome to watch? Does Rain kick as much richard simmons as everyone says he does? If you've had the chance to see it, then sound off, leave a comment, and let us know what you thought of Ninja Assassin!

To fuel the fire, I frickin' loved this movie. But there are some problems with it. Yes, the story is complete mini cooper, I'll even admit to that. But the action is awesome and its got ninjas, lots and lots of them, killing each other in insanely badass fight scenes. I mean, how can that not be awesome? Okay, don't answer that. But in all seriousness, I love James McTeigue and I think as the director he salvaged a bad script and still delivered a purely entertaining action movie. Rain does an amazing job, both physically in the fight scenes, and also as a not-so-cheesy Korean actor speaking badly-written English dialogue. It's fun and awesome and that's all.

[11-26] Tom Long Film Review: Ninja Assassin -- GRADE: B

source:http://www.detnews.com/article/2 ... -killer-ninja-flick

It's been a while since we've had a good ninja film.

Of course, the term "good ninja film" may be oxymoronic to many. It depends how much you like flying decapitations, martial arts weaponry, blood sprays, black pajamas and big showdowns at remote Kung Fu monasteries in the mountains.

"Ninja Assassin" -- you've got to love the kitschy title -- has all that and more. In fact, it's by far the best ninja film of the year, and that's not just because it's likely the only ninja film of the year.

Starring some guy named Rain -- what, his sister is Snow? -- who is a big pop star in Korea, "Ninja Assassin" is a great compilation of B-movie clichés brought to heightened fruition by director James McTeigue, a protégé of the Wachowski ("Matrix") brothers.

"Ninja Assassin" is way better than "V" because McTeigue knows what he's going for -- blood splatters, fancy chop-socky choreography and unabashed corny plotlines. And it works in precisely the cheesy way it's supposed to.

Rain plays Raizo, an orphan raised in a brutal ninja training academy. After being kicked around once too often by his masters, he turns against them. It's him against an army of ninjas, foiling their assassinations. These assassinations, it turns out, are sold for big money, so Raizo is costing people a lot of money.

He eventually hooks up with a special agent of some sort (really, does it matter?) named Mika (Naomie Harris) and together they run from the ninja army while stopping every once in a while so Rain can slaughter a bunch of them.

Rain is a very talented slaughterer. He could kill you with a pair of tweezers, a hair dryer, two bananas, whatever. Be glad he's a good ninja. And if you don't find "good ninja movie" an oxymoron, go see "Ninja Assassin."

[11-25] Ninja Assassin review

By Robert Frankel

November 25, 2009

source: http://dailyuw.com/2009/11/25/ninja-assassin/

To put it bluntly, a review for a film called Ninja Assassin is entirely unnecessary.

You may or may not be interested to know that the film is partly produced by the Wachowski brothers, of The Matrix trilogy fame. Or that Director James McTeigue also fronted V for Vendetta. Or that Rain, the famous South Korean singer, pop dancer and model, stars as Raizo, the titular ninja assassin.

No, you know whether or not you’re going to see this movie based off of the title alone, and nothing a reviewer, such as myself, will say is going to change your mind. The fact of the matter is that Ninja Assassin is exactly the sum of its part, nothing more and nothing less. Yes, it’s about a ninja assassin, who often assassinates more than one ninja at a time. Yes, there are plenty of action sequences on display. Yes, the dialogue suffers from cheesy writing and ham-fisted delivery. And yes, the story is only slightly thicker than paper.

But to be honest, this is one entertaining, if not over-the-top, movie. After the brazen pomposity of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, the marginally better G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, and the overblown mega-spectacle 2012, it’s nice to see a movie that is very clearly, and very simply, having fun with itself.

Director McTeigue knows what his audiences want, and he isn’t afraid to give it to them. Even before the title screen, at least ten bodies drop in an orgiastic haze of rapid gunfire, shurikens, and gushing, cartoonish blood. The rest of the film is pretty much no different.

The simple plot exists only as a pretense for the violence, and yet it is actually thicker than it has to be. There’s a shadowy clan that kidnaps children and trains them to become ninjas, and also two Europol operatives that want to destroy it. Some themes about family and betrayal are thrown around, but those really aren’t that important.

The biggest draw for this sort of film is the violence. There are some mighty fine sequences here, packed with lavish choreography and incredible cinematography. Unfortunately, all of the fights are essentially extensions of the same thing, only with different or enlarged set pieces. Still, they do remain enjoyable, even if there isn’t much variety.

An annoying problem with the action is the use of digital effects to enhance the images of swords and blades or to increase the amount of blood on screen; the scenes are impressive enough as it is, and these sorts of things are a bit distracting. This gives the film a certain feel that, combined with the ultra-fast pacing, is reminiscent of a video game. Also, there are some elements in the film that are just plain stupid, such as the whisper chatter the ninjas adopt when appearing out of the shadows.

But then again, Ninja Assassin won’t win an Oscar; instead, it will make millions of dollars. It is the last of the adult-themed action capers for the year, and if you know what you’re getting yourself into, you’ll probably enjoy yourself.

The verdict: Gratuitously violent and gleefully bloody, Ninja Assassin is the year’s guiltiest pleasure, even if it’s really just a one-trick pony.

[11-26] We talk to Korean pop sensation Rain over sushi

source: http://www.craveonline.com/enter ... inja-assassin-91253

Rain is a Ninja Assassin

We talk to Korean pop sensation Rain over sushi.

by Fred Topel

Nov 25, 2009

We first interviewed Korean pop sensation Rain two Comic Cons ago for Ninja Assassin. The film is finally out this weekend and we got to catch up with Rain over sushi. How cool is that? Sushi with Rain. Overlooking the Hollywood hills, Rain enjoyed the fruits of his hard work, and his relative privacy in the states, in a one on one interview.

Crave Online: You don’t have follow the ninja diet anymore.

Rain: Yeah. Just I want chocolate and junk food, French fries. Do you know Japanese bento and Korean food? So sweet, so delicious.

Crave Online: What was your favorite sequence in the film?

Rain: My favorite is the rooftop sequence and the final fighting scenes.

Crave Online: What makes ninjas unique to other martial arts?

Rain: It’s so unique because it’s so bloody. I killed a lot.

Crave Online: What will attract audiences to learn about the mystery of ninjas?

Rain: Just shadow and darkness. It’s so different than other action movies.

Crave Online: How do you make it so we can see what you do in the darkness?

Rain: There’s just red or black. When I was doing stunts, I couldn’t see the enemy. For that reason, I have lots of cuts. The only difficulty I probably had was doing stunts because I couldn’t see the enemies fully because of the darkness. I just got some cuts on my body. That’s the only difficulty I had.

Crave Online: You got some real injuries?

Rain: Yeah, my face was cut, my body was cut.

Crave Online: You’re so charismatic as a singer, did you have to strip away your personality to be a ninja?

Rain: Yes, I was just focused on my character. I am Raizo, I am Raizo, I am Raizo, always. I hypnotized myself to believe I’m Raizo.

Crave Online: Can you really do pushups on a bed of nails?

Rain: Ah, that was a green box. It’s CG. There’s just safety wires but for that scene, I just practiced standing upside down for a few months. It was hard.

Crave Online: The chain looks awesome but is it really a a useful weapon?

Rain: Yeah, better than a sword. One of the difficulties we had during shooting using the chain was because I had to do it once with the laser, once with the real chain and once also for another cut just to have the whole thing. So every shot I had to do three times.

Crave Online: Is it hard to fight with prosthetic wounds on?

Rain: Right, they’re so sticky. During stunts, the prosthetics would fall off. They would have to stop and try again.

Crave Online: Tell us about the laundry room fight.

Rain: That’s the easy part. That was so easy, just no acrobatics, no wires, just the easy part.

Crave Online: How about your sword and chain katas?

Rain: All the scenes in my room that you see were choreographed on the set that day. So all the training that I’ve done and choreography I’ve done previously for eight months was preparing me to be able to improv all the choreographies on the set.

Crave Online: What was difficult about the bathroom fight?

Rain: Yeah, that was real. A real fighting sequence. My opponent was so big, he could actually lift me up and throw me. That’s why it was difficult.

Crave Online: Did you get banged up for real?

Rain: Mm hmm.

Crave Online: What was challenging about the rooftop sequence?

Rain: That moment it was so freezing because it was raining. Wow, so freezing and also that scene as well I had to shoot three times for every cut because I had to shoot it once with the laser, once with the real chain and all that.

Crave Online: What about the fire at the end?

Rain: It was very dangerous because there’s real flame. It was so hard.

Crave Online: How comfortable are you with English dialogue?

Rain: I did my best and I also am working on English. I do my best.

Crave Online: Is it easy after you memorize the lines?

Rain: I had a coach, an English coach. He helped me. I had a dialogue coach. We’re a good team.

Crave Online: Can you be your own bodyguard now?

Rain: No, I don’t need a bodyguard.

Crave Online: Don’t you have security for the crowds?

Rain: Right. Yes, no problem.

Crave Online: Have you been in a real fight?

Rain: Yes, before this film, when I was growing up, I had a lot of fights between my friends and me. My tooth was gone, a lot of fights.

Crave Online: Are you still the most influential person in the world?

Rain: Time magazine? Not now. I’ll do my best in the future ahead.

Crave Online: How would you like to influence the world this year?

Rain: I don't know. Just keep working hard.

Crave Online: What’s going on with your music?

Rain: I want to focus on Ninja Assassin for now. After this film, I will release in the U.S. market.

Crave Online: Will you sing in English?

Rain: Yeah.

Crave Online: Have you written songs yet?

Rain: Not yet.

Crave Online: Will that make it difficult for you?

Rain: I’m a singer. I just sing.

Crave Online: You’re doing Vegas at Christmas. Is that all your Korean music?

Rain: Yeah, sometimes singing English, sometimes Korean, sometimes Chinese, sometimes Japanese.

Crave Online: Do you know the set list?

Rain: Yeah, yeah. I Do, that’s my song. I Do, Rainism, It’s Raining. I have a lot of songs.

Crave Online: Who will open for you?

Rain: I don’t have guests. Just me.

Crave Online: Wow, what a show. Do you spend any time in Las Vegas when you perform?

Rain: Yeah, that’s my third time. I will enjoy it.

hello everyone

thanks for all the goodies, pics, articles, updates,

really happy fo Rain on the good reviews, hope more success, more happy moments for our shining star :D:D

found today in Yahoo, hope it's not already posted,

For adrenaline junkies, there's "Ninja Assassin." The action film, produced by Andy and Larry Wachowski of "Matrix" fame, scored mixed reviews. Some critics were surprisingly positive. Chris Nashawaty of EW gave the film a "B" and applauded the film's "very cool" fight scenes.

Other reviewers were a bit more tepid. David Thomas of Filmcritic.com awarded the film two out of five stars, noting that it will "likely disappoint action fans with excessive CGI gore." Unless she herself is a ninja, you may want to leave Grandma at home.

Hi willenette, I'm going to watch NA tomorrow, I wish I can do it now on its first day but I can't coz of previous sked, how about you?

When it Rain(s), it really pours

By Raymond de Asis Lo, L.A. Correspondent (The Philippine Star) Updated November 26, 2009 12:00 AM

ent3.jpg

MANILA, Philippines - Rain (whose real name is Jung Ji Hoon, lead star of Full House which will soon air its Filipino adaptation on GMA 7) walked into the little corner assigned to us for the round-table interviews inside the famous Yamashiro restaurant, which sits on top of the Hollywood Hills, with a big smile on his face and an English interpreter in tow. He was holding in his hands his watch and his bracelet. “I love bling-bling,” he said. We asked him why he wasn’t wearing them and he said because it was heavy.

The Korean superstar is in town to promote his first major Hollywood movie after doing a bit part in the movie Speed Racer two years ago.

The Philippine Star met with him over the weekend for the junket of Warner Bros.’ latest film Ninja Assassin, a bloody and violent film that puts to shame some of the most violent films ever made (that’s not counting the recent spate of mindless gory horror movies, of course!) in Hollywood. The movie feels like watching a blockbuster video game only that this one is live-action and way more visually arresting and exciting. The fight scenes are choreographed like a ballet only that the props are the flying limbs and the sputtering of blood from everywhere. The screening this writer attended ended with a loud cheer from the audience.

Tall, handsome, and charismatic (he kept referring to his publicist as “my sexy publicist”), the actor made the lady journalist from Spain exclaim that he looked like he was only 21 years old. Rain is 27. He now wears his hair short and looked very lean — thanks to a diet of chicken breasts, vegetables, salmon, and white eggs. He also had to endure rigorous and punishing training for eight months!

“I hate martial arts!” he joked. “I had to make my body fit like Bruce Lee. I trained for eight months, five days a week for eight hours a day — it was horrible! I learned a lot of martial arts and learned how to use the chain.” The actor had a stunt double who said that Rain easily coped with the training regimen and even helped in setting up some of his fight sequences. To show the strength that he gained from the training, there is a scene in the movie where he does a standing up push-up — on a bed of nails, at that!

Asked if there were any instances that he didn’t feel like training because his body was hurting and he didn’t want to carry on, Rain replied, “No, it’s my big opportunity… I wanted to focus on the film so I did my best. Joel (Silver) is producing, the Wachowski brothers (the makers of the Matrix Trilogy) are producing, how can I say no to that?”

The actor had to give up touring and performing for almost a year to make this movie. This sacrifice he said was necessary because he always wanted to work in Hollywood . “My role model is Al Pacino. He is my hero and I love Scarface — it is my favorite.”

But if he can have his choice, he’d like to work with Megan Fox. “I love Megan. She’s lovely.” The sultry actress was quoted to have once said: “There’s this Korean Justin Timberlake named Rain, and I’m really in his situation now. I’m trying to fix this up. I’m working hard.” Whatever she meant by it, tabloids picked it up and proclaimed that Megan has a crush on the singer.

Rain portrays a ninja assassin who is being hunted by his former master after defying an order to kill someone. His casting was not accidental. He didn’t have to audition for his part, either. The movie was written with him in mind. The star first got Joel Silver’s attention seven years ago in Japan when the actor caused a commotion when hordes of screaming fans stormed a hotel lobby just as the Hollywood mega producer was doing a round of movie promotion.

When Silver and the Wachowski brothers were looking for an Asian actor for a part in the Speed Racer movie, the head of Warner Bros. in Japan recommended the Korean sensation, who immediately grabbed the chance despite having a tight schedule touring Asia.

It was during the production of Speed Racer that Silver discovered Rain’s potential to crossover to Hollywood. “We were trying to find a new martial arts star and we saw Rain and saw his abilities. We designed the movie around Rain. It was designed as a movie to highlight his ability and I think that it worked and the audience will agree that he’ll have a big career.”

This huge Hollywood break for Rain is the pop star’s biggest in an otherwise already mega-successful career as a music superstar in Asia.

“I’d like to do everything: Romance, comedy, action, horror, yeah, I would definitely like to continue my career in Hollywood. Keep watching for me,” he said. And although he plans to move to L.A. eventually, he doesn’t plan on giving up his career in Asia. Rain, who still considers Seoul home, plans to divide his time between Asia and Hollywood. “I will concentrate on both because I love my fans. And Asia is a big market, and Hollywood is, too… I am going to be a superstar!” he teased.

Told that he already is a superstar, he feigned surprise and said, “Really!? Thank you! I’ll do my best in getting better.”

Rain is easily the biggest Asian sensation today. His face has graced various advertising campaigns all over the region. He is followed by screaming girls wherever he goes which has gotten so extreme that at one point a girl showed up in an airport in China proclaiming that she was carrying his son.

“This one fan claimed that she had my baby,” he recalled. “It was crazy. We were at an airport in China and it was so scary. She looked like…,” he paused and acted how the woman looked. His bodyguards had to drive the woman away. He, however, made it clear that he likes the adulation he gets from the girls. “It’s my dream!” he said in jest.

His rise to the top is something that he has always been proud of. “When I was young, my mother passed away and we were so poor but it’s because of her that I am here.” The Internet is filled with unconfirmed stories including that of a young Rain drinking from a glass of water that was later discovered to have a dead cockroach in it. “My mother is my hero. She’s my angel and she’s always here,” he said pointing to his heart.

He now considers his life comfortable. “Now, I am… just a little bit rich,” he said. “Life is comfortable.”

He credits his mentor Park Jin Young in helping him chart his impressive rise to stardom across Asia, yet he is still aiming to go higher — as high as he could possibly get.

A known workaholic, Rain sees no problem working on another martial arts movie. “I want to work with Joel again,” he said. “And I love Bruce Lee, I love Jackie (Chan), I love Jet Lee. They are my heroes. But I am so powerful, I am so fast, I am younger and I am so handsome than them,” he said then paused and smiled. “I am kidding! Please don’t tell Jackie, he’s my brother.” He said that Jackie has always been nice to him and has even given him tips on how to make it big in Hollywood. “Just do your best always,” Rain recalled Jackie telling him.

The night before our interview, Rain graced a Hollywood nightclub to promote his movie and was expectedly mobbed by a throng of young girls. “I love L.A., I love the girls,” he said.

Life after shooting the movie has been a lot of fun to the star. “No more workouts, no more chicken breasts,” he said. He has been eating lots of his favorite chocolates since filming ended but sees no problem going back to the hard workout regime he followed if he is asked again.

We ended the interview on a high note with the five other journalists from Europe all in awe of the Asian superstar!

Ninja Assassin is now showing in theaters.

anjjo, thanks for sharing this article. Too bad that I don't subscribe this broadsheet that's why I wasn't able to read this news. Wow, your turn is tomorrow, mine will be this Saturday - can't make it during weekdays since I'm busy working. Have you noticed that in all his interviews during this NA promo, RAIN is really modest. Wondering if during his US promo he’s able to unwind like go shopping or even as what he mentioned in one of his interviews that he wants to go to California beach. He wants to see some “curvy” girls, huh – Hmmm….. we know that RAIN likes sexy & tall girls. :P:lol:

Ninja Assassin (2009) Movie Review

Featured, Ninja Assassin (2009) Movie, Reviews — By Nix on November 25, 2009

Twenty years after their heyday, ninja movies are all the rage again in Hollywood. As someone who grew up with movies pitting ninjas fighting Caucasian gangsters in broad daylight, I couldn’t be happier. Don’t get me wrong: James McTeigue’s “Ninja Assassin” is definitely not a throwback to the ‘80s, back when Sho Kosugi ruled the ninja roost with honor. Despite the presence of fan favorite Kosugi in “Assassin” – surely a nod to the man’s many accomplishments and contributions to the genre – “Ninja Assassin” couldn’t have existed in the ‘80s. This is very much a 2009 ninja movie, the kind that relies almost as much on CGI blood as it does the amazingly acrobatic skills of its leading man and his enemies.

“Ninja Assassin” opens with a ninja from the Ozunu clan taking out a room full of Japanese gangsters (fronted by the always amusing Sung Kang, here playing the epitome of a 2009 Yakuza). Immediately, the film establishes itself as a hardcore, brutal ninja movie, and you can forget about daytime action. The ninjas are a wily bunch, able to blend into and emerge out of pools of shadows like bogeyman in some horror movie. They even have supernatural healing powers, though that doesn’t really come in all that handy when limbs are chopped, heads are decapitated, and body parts are cleaved in halves whenever the ninjas do battle. That is “Ninja Assassin” – a movie that, when it lands on DVD, probably won’t be advertising an “Unrated” version. How could it? The film, Rated R, is already a geyser of CGI blood and flopping limbs. Yes, folks, this is NOT a movie for the kiddies, and God bless it for being so bloody.

South Korean pop singer Rain (last seen in the epic fail that was the Wachowski Brothers’ “Speed Racer”) fronts “Ninja Assassin” as Raizo, an orphan “adopted” into the Ozunu clan and raise to be a heartless killer. Though he quickly adopts the skills taught mercilessly by Ozunu himself (Sho Kosugi), Raizo hasn’t completely lost his humanity, thanks to fellow assassin-in-training Kiriko (Kylie Goldstein), who longs for more, a goal that can only be reached by scaling the walls of the Ozunu Clan’s hidden mountain lair. When we first meet the adult Raizo, he has already broken free of the Ozunu Clan’s chains, and is now a fugitive from his brothers — including the brutal Takeshi (Rick Yune) — and “father”.

Through flashbacks, we come to learn why Raizo is currently on a quest to destroy Ozunu once and for all. Our hero gets assistance from Interpol researcher Mika (Naomie Harris, “28 Days Later”), who has found evidence of the Ozunu Clan’s existence. She enlists the aid of her superior Maslow (Ben Miles), and as their investigation deepens, they find themselves becoming targets by their own agency, as well as shadowy ninjas. Eventually, Raizo and Mika form an alliance, even as the Ozunu Clan closes in. Much blood-letting, awesome ninja battles, and slicing and dicing ensue.

It needs to be repeated that “Ninja Assassin” is not a movie for kids. That should become instantly clear when the first ninja victim’s head is cleaved in half from forehead to chin. James McTeigue, coming off his debut in “V for Vendetta” (produced by the Wachowskis, who also produces “Ninja Assassin”), has brought out the fake blood by the buckets to play, and oh my does he ever play. Much of the film takes place in darkness, since ninjas do not come out in daylight. The action is brutal, constant, and orchestrated for maximum coolness. This is not a movie that’s going to appeal to the New York Times set, and let’s face it, who cares, it wasn’t made for them anyway. If you didn’t snicker when you first heard the title of the movie, the film will live up to your expectations and, in my case, exceeded it. If he hasn’t become already, James McTeigue is most definitely an action movie director to keep watching.

As his first real introduction to an American/International audience, “Ninja Assassin” is the perfect launching pad for Rain. Raizo is a physical, deadly presence, and the pop singer-turned-actor easily embodies the character, thanks to months of martial arts and weapons training. Being the silent, deadly type, Raizo is a man of action, with a lot of his exposition kept to flashbacks with younger actors in the role. Rain will no doubt be able to parlay the film into more action roles in Hollywood films if he’s so inclined. I can’t say if he’s a good enough actor to stray from the genre at this point, since his Raizo lives and dies by his physical abilities, so how well he can handle himself in a movie without swords is still an open question. Then again, questionable acting chops have never kept Keanu Reeves from a superstar career.

“Ninja Assassin” is a pretty straight-forward action movie, albeit a very slick and stylish entry. What passes for story is mostly buried by the film’s abundant action, though the script does get brownie points for not relying on character clichés that usually burden such movies. For instance, Ben Miles is not your typical bone-headed bureaucrat, though at first he may seem like one. Likewise, the spunky Mika doesn’t become an Angelina Jolie-type action heroine overnight; she’s capable and smart, and knows her way around a gun, but there’s real fear as she quickly realizes what she’s up against. There are also some noticeable gaps in the plot, much of it involving Raizo’s life post-Ozunu Clan. We never really get a firm idea of what Raizo has been up to, or any explanations as to how he learns about the Ozunu Clan’s assassination targets before they attack.

In a lot of ways, the ninjas of “Ninja Assassin” are more like creatures in a horror movie than men in black pajamas stalking a martial arts film. Though the object is to present a gritty, possible real-world take on the ninja mythos, the film does indulge in some very fantastical elements. When the ninjas attack, their shuriken throwing stars are like bullets, their swords like invisible lasers. They can track victims from miles away by scent, and their healing abilities border on the supernatural. In that respect, the film does seem to want it both ways – real and gritty, but at the same time pure fantasy. Of course, that shouldn’t be too much of a hindrance to enjoying the film, which is, remember, about ninjas running around in the 21st century.

If you saw the previews and thought, “Wow, that looks like a good movie,” then you will be a pig in sloth. “Ninja Assassin” easily lived up to my expectations, and then some. Rain makes for a formidable action hero of the future, and it’s a real treat to see the great Sho Kosugi back in the saddle once again, in the genre that he single-handedly popularized in the first place. Plot-wise, “Ninja Assassin” isn’t going to blow you away, but then I’m sure you never expected it to, so that’s alright. The fact that it does make some sort of sense – in a “this is a movie with ninjas” sort of logic – means the script isn’t a complete throwaway. “Ninja Assassin” is probably the most fun I’ve had at the theaters in a while. It’s cartoonishly brutal in spots, and after a while the blood geysers get ridiculous, but the end result is that you probably won’t see a more badass ninja movie for a while.

We talk to Korean pop sensation Rain over sushi.

by Fred Topel

We first interviewed Korean pop sensation Rain two Comic Cons ago for Ninja Assassin. The film is finally out this weekend and we got to catch up with Rain over sushi. How cool is that? Sushi with Rain. Overlooking the Hollywood hills, Rain enjoyed the fruits of his hard work, and his relative privacy in the states, in a one on one interview.

11-26] Review : Ninja Assassin - WeAreMovieGeeks

source: http://wearemoviegeeks.com/2009/11/review-ninja-assassin/

James McTeigue first brought us a film that is easily in my top 50 films all time, V FOR VENDETTA. Now he is back but this time with a ninja who is aiming to kill everyone who gets in his way of seeking revenge against the 9 ancient ninja clans.

Let me first tell you that this movie isn’t perfect, but it doesn’t have to be…since few films are perfect these days. What James McTeigue has created a very fun, entertaining and beautifully violent film that has great rewatchability and will leave you begging for more.

There are basically 3 stories in this film, a badass story of how Raizo(Rain) becomes a ninja, how he is now trying to defeat his old clan, and of course a love story. The film could have easily done without the love story, but then it probably wouldn’t have been released under the WB banner and instead suffered some sort of limited crappy release so we will forgive it for that.

Lets start from the beginning, the opening scene features Hollywood(Sung Kang) getting tattooed by an old monk who is doing it the ancient Japanese way, by hammer. Surrounded by his gang of Asian thugs, a letter is delivered which features nothing but black sand. The monk goes on to tell them what happened the last time he saw a letter filled with black sand and from this point forward the richard simmons kicking begins. All of the gang members start being brutally murdered by swords, throwing stars and numerous other blades that splatter the CGI blood all over the screen. Everyone in this scene dies and we get a glimpse of whats to come.

From here we get the story of Raizo from first being introduced to his “brothers and sisters” in the Ozunu Clan, his training to become a ninja and eventually going out to do assassinations. During this part of the story we get misc bits of the love story background tossed in and we see Raizo save the woman in distress, which in this movie is a Euro-pol agent Mika Coretti (Naomie Harris). She is targeted for assassination after uncovering a link between the clans and the government who had been paying the clans to perform killings for hundreds of years. Raizo comes in to help save Mika from being murdered and a bond forms. Its a typical love story, but with a badass ninja twist.

I will say that I was very surprised by Rain’s martial arts skills. Watching this film you would never know this guy doubles as a pop star when he isnt kicking richard simmons.

There is some very badass action, some incredible fight scenes and more blood than you could possibly know what to do with. This is easily one of the greatest ninja movies ever created. I know, i know, a lot of people have a big problem with the CGI blood but seriously…get the hell over it! McTeigue intended this film to be more animated and the CGI blood does a great job of helping achieve that. Most of the things they do in the movie requires you to step away from reality, sort of like other films the Wachowski brothers have worked on.

If you haven’t already then go check out our interview with James McTeigue then jump over and watch it to get a better feel for what he intended for the film.

If you go into this movie expecting a fun and entertaining experience you will leave a very happy camper. If you go in expecting to have a mind blowing, life changing experience you might not be so happy.

I had more fun at this movie than I've had during a movie in a very long time. Rating: 4 out of 5
