Hamasaki Ayumi to release new album in Korea tomorrow

J-pop singer Hamasaki Ayumi [sM Entertainment]

Japanese pop singer Hamasaki Ayumi will be releasing her latest album "Rock 'n' Roll Circus" in Korea tomorrow, agency SM Entertainment said in a press release on Tuesday.

"Circus", the eleventh studio release by the 31-year-old singer, will be available in two different formats; a CD-only version and CD+DVD version.

The record, which came out in Japan last Wednesday, ranked at No. 1 on Oricon's daily and weekly album chart on the day of its release.

The CD carries a total of fifteen tracks including four hit singles "Sunset: Love is All", "Sunrise: Love is All", "You Were..." and "Ballad".

The DVD features music video clips for new songs such as "Sexy Little Things", "Microphone", "Don't Look Back" and "Lady Dynamite" as well as behind-the-scenes footage from the set and highlight performances from last year's "Ayumi Hamasaki Arena Tour 2009 A: Next Level".

Born in Fukuoka, Hamasaki moved to Tokyo to pursue a singing career at the age of fourteen and trained under Max Matsuura, renowned music producer and CEO of major record label Avex Group.

Since releasing her debut album "A Song for XX" in 1999, she has sold over 50 million records to date and earned the nickname "Empress of Pop" with her popularity and cultural influence throughout Asia.

What about yourself? What songs are your favorites?

*looks at covers for newest albums* Although hardcore Ayu-fans will probably kill me for saying this, I'm actually disappointed over Rock 'n' Roll Circus. Except for "Don't look back" and "BALLAD", there weren't really any songs I liked all that much, and I just generally don't like this album. One of her worst releases, IMO, I hope for better songs on a possible future album.

「crossroad」will be produced and composed by legendary producer tetsuya komuro and will be released in versions A,B,and C.

tvxq's jejung is to be featured in the blossom pv.

「L」will be her first multi-A-side single in 7 years and will be released in versions A,B,C, and D. It is also her 50th single.

If both these singles chart at #1 weekly on the oricon singles chart, ayumi will have set a new record for most consecutive #1 singles for a female artist, beating the old record set by 80's idol seiko matsuda. This will add to her collection of records held in Japan including: best selling female artist (singles & overall), best selling solo artist (overall), most #1 singles for a female artist, and most top 10 singles for a female artist.

Desperately trying to bring this thread back to life, where are my fellow Ayu fans? D:

So... what are your thoughts on Party Queen? Love it? Hate it?

Personally, I was positively surprised by Party Queen. Honestly, I had kinda lost my interest in her. I was extremely disappointed in Rock 'n' Roll Circus, I didn't feel the album at all. Love songs was an even bigger disappointment, I liked only a few songs on the album and hated the others (Love songs has grown on me though, I like it a lot more than I used to). Five was just boring imo, BRILLANTE is gorgeous though and saves the mini tbh.

But I have to say that I do like Party Queen. People are saying they're annoyed by Timmy and his contributions to the album, but I actually like most of the tracks by him. I like how Ayu's trying out stuff she hasn't done before, for example the jazz elements in the next LOVE and Eyes, Smoke, Magic.

Overall I think the album has a lot of amazing songs but a lot of songs I dislike as well. I've had NaNaNa and Shake It on repeat, I love those two. Especially Shake It is a really good track, I really like the composition. NaNaNa is damn catchy too, but I have to admit that I find Timmy's "rap" quite awkward and tacky. But as I said, I like the song. I just have a feeling I won't be listening to it on repeat after a few years. Shake It on the other hand seems like a song I'll probably be listening to after a long time and still like it.

I also love Return Road, Tell me why and Eyes, Smoke, Magic. Return Road is an amazing dramatic Ayu song and I've always been a sucker for her dramatic stuff, so I obviously love it. Tell me why is absolutely gorgeous too imo, it's quite simple but really beautiful. I like the lyrics, too. ESM on the other hand was a surprise for me - I don't usually like jazz, but I fell in love with it. Usually jazz just bores me, but ESM keeps me interested right till the end.

a cup of tea deserves a spot on my love list too, it's my favourite interlude on the album. I like how there are lots of different elements mixed in it, but it sounds good imo. Also, I love dubstep lol.

Party Queen and reminds me are good tracks as well imo. I have to say that I absolutely hated PQ when I heard it for the first time.. I thought her vocals were terrible and the track was a hot mess. Yeah, I really didn't like it.. But when I listened to the album and replayed the song a few times, I actually started liking it. I still think she doesn't sound good, but the track is pretty catchy and fun. I like it now.

I don't like the next LOVE and Letter, but I don't dislike them either... tnL is quite boring imo, but I love the lyrics. As I said, I'm not a big fan of jazz, but it worked with ESM. tnL is just boring and not memorable in my ears. Letter sounds like a generic rock song by her and I've never been a big fan of them. I like the chorus, though.

And the rest of the songs... Well, I don't like them. First of all, call is definitely my least favourite. It gives me the same vibe as Letter, a very generic Ayu track that sounds just like her other similar songs. Except Letter's chorus is good. There's just nothing that caught my attention in call, nothing memorable for me.

I don't like how beautiful you are either.. The melody is beautiful, I admit it, but her vocals ruin the song for me. :/ I could easily listen to the instrumental, but her voice hurts my ears tbh.

Serenade in A minor is pretty but super boring, it's even less memorable than call imo. I think it's a quite useless interlude.. taskebab isn't boring, but it sounds way too messy imo. I really like the beginning, but when the beat changes.. ugh, it ruins it imo. :/

Sorry, I wasn't supposed to write an essay! idk how this happened..

tldr; I like the album, but there are several songs I dislike. But I like the majority.
