^I just read about that. If you guys haven't yet, there's a thread over at the "other celeb photos".

Anyways, just sharing this vid I just found on youtube. It's Charice playing the guitar. Obviously, she's still a beginner at it but she did good enough. She's also singing a very light poppish song for a change. ^-^

Watch it. It's cute!

FLASH: When it rains, it does pour.

No, it’s not a cliche as far as Charice (now minus Pempengco) is concerned.

After a landmark guesting in Ellen DeGeneres’ show (and then in those of Paul O’Brady in London and Oprah Winfrey), Charice shared the spotlight Saturday night with Josh Groban, John Mayer and Alicia Keys in a show organized by songwriter David Forster for the grand opening of the MGM Grand Casino-Hotel at Foxwood, Connecticut, USA.

Here’s the full report from immigration lawyer and STAR columnist Michael Gurfinkel and his wife Millie who were in that Foxwood event (it was the couple who helped expedite the issuance of the US visa of Charice and her mom Raquel):

Saturday, May 17, was the grand opening of the hotel.

David Foster put together and produced the very first show, featuring Alicia Keys, Josh Groban, John Mayer and, of course, the International Singing Sensation and pride of the Philippines, Charice.

Charice appeared just before Groban and sang a medley of the Whitney Houston hits I Have Nothing and I Will Always Love You (from the movie The Bodyguard which stars Houston herself and Kevin Costner).

Charice received a standing ovation, the only performer to receive one that night, and therefore the first performer at the MGM Foxwoods to receive a standing ovation.

Foster asked the crowd after Charice finished her numbers, "Would you like one more song?"

The audience cheered and shouted an enthusiastic "Yes!" Foster said that he and Charice would do And I’m Telling You...unrehearsed!

After they sang, the audience once again gave Charice another standing ovation. Among those in the audience were Quincy Jones, and Michael Douglas with his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones.

Backstage, Foster, Alicia and Josh congratulated Charice for her "phenomenal performance."

Next stop for Charice is the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas on Friday, May 23, where she will perform once again with Josh Groban, along with Andrea Bocelli, Michael Buble and Katherine McPhee.

charice is awesome.

i reckon she kinda owes it to super junior fans as well..

i mean like ELF watched her vid with kyuhyun.. and then that ganed popularity,

and for some reason pople tend to watch the popular ones.. then that got more popular.. which got her a shot on ellen's show..

and thus now Oprah's.

Shes like Lea Salonga except minus the broadway *cough*and the stuck up attitude. *cough* sorry Lea Salonga fans/

anyway.. im kinda angry on how other countries treat her better tha the phils. so maybe one day she can be mega popular there too.

looking for news about Charice's performance on Mandalay Event by DAVID FOSTER and FRIENDS... here are some REVIEWS from people who attended the show..

"Charise, the 16-year old from the Philippines, stole the show."

"Charice: Little teeny, tiny 16 year old Philippine girl with an AMAZING voice. It reminded me of my old roommate Lea, no way can a sound that amazing come out of some one that small but it does!" -- http://annieandjoshes.blogspot.com/2008/05...ht-of-josh.html

"My husband and I were there last night and sat at the 200 section. As someone else mentioned from Hawaii of her experience of hearing Cha sing live it sure is different. She's got this big pipe that really carries over even to our section. We found some of the stars we could not really hear what they were singing it is so different with Cha.

She wore a black and gold dress - she looked nice. Sorry but we abided with the rules no cameras but then David Foster kept on saying that we could take pictures of him but not the stars. If we only knew....

She sang I Have Nothing, got a standing ovation, I Will Always Love You, and And I am Telling you, wherein she got another standing ovation.

The only other person that got a lot of standing ovation was Andrea Bocelli. He sang 4 songs and got a standing ovation with those 4 songs. The last song he sang was with Katharine McPhee for The Prayer. It was good but it is always different with him singing it with Celine Dione who he sang it with originally. He closed the first half of the show.

Josh Groban got a standing ovation with his song You Raise Me Up. Here I was expecting Cha to have a duet with someone but was delightfully surprised that she sang solo. He closed the show.

Also, David mentioned that Ms O asked him to put Cha on his show. Oprah's producer Lisa was in the audience and was a big booster of Cha that both she and Oprah asked David to include her in the show. Of course, what Oprah requests you cannot refuse.

Hopefully, other members of this forum will post their experience." --Dbest

"Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner via video praise David for contributing two hits, "I Have Nothing" and "I Will Always Lpve You" to their movie, "The Bodyguard". Well, this is the intro to the WOW performance of David's newest baby, Charice.

She brings the audience to their feet with "I Have Nothing" and "I Will Always Love You" and the "Your Gonna Love Me" sung by Jennifer Hudson in Dreamgirls". Well, I watched Charice through binoculars and folks, she is the real deal. What poise and voice she expressed for someone so young. Clearly, she gives 110% and the audience stood and cheered. It was awesome.

"Who's the one person who could follow that? asks David."

"HEADS UP PEOPLE!

I and my wife went to David Foster and friends concert last night May 23 at Mandalay Bay. Charice was the second to the last performer at that concert (before Josh Groban). I could say with no doubt she had the most powerful vocal performance in there to the point of David foster himself saying "I don't know of anyone yet who can top that performance". Good job Charice. You really did it. God bless! Let us support this young Filipina International STAR! " --vegasbabies2 - YOUTUBE

CONCERT REVIEW: Foster's secrets on display

Show honors songwriter, producer

By JASON BRACELIN

original source : x

"If Groban is one of Foster's most renowned discoveries, this night truly belonged to a newer one, doe-eyed 16-year-old Filipino belter Charice, whose voice is like a jetliner taking off from her sternum."

when she was in little big star against sam concepcion, i really didn't like her not because she was not good, but because i was enthralled by sam and his charisma. then i realized after watching her youtube videos, that being a star isn't just about being goodlooking like sam. charice should've won! i'm so happy that she was on ellen & oprah. and on starking! hodong was hilarious :D

she looks pretty in all the pictures here :D it's amazing how kids like her who started young grow up to be so beautiful. i'm even older than her, and i think she looks more than me :P i love charice! hope to hear more amazing performances from her.

here's one snoopy guy's scoop of the night's show in mandalay, together with bocelli, groban, mcphee and many more. David Foster was quite generous with praises on her. The crowd stood on their feet on each of her performances. Such a feat, indeed.

Charice back in town, shares Vegas experience

By REYMA BUAN-DEVEZA

abs-cbnNEWS.com

International singing sensation Charice arrived in Manila Wednesday morning from her well-praised performance at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas last Friday, May 23 for record producer David Foster's benefit show entitled "David Foster & Friends".

Philippine Airlines flight PR 103 from Los Angeles bearing Charice and her mother Raquel Pempengco touched down at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport tarmac around six in the morning.

In an exclusive interview with abs-cbnNEWS.com, Charisse shared her unforgettable experience of performing with international big stars in Las Vegas especially with operatic pop tenor Andrea Bocelli.

"Siyempre iba, kasi ako po 'yung nag-iisang Pinoy doon tapos kasama mo ang big stars. Hindi ko makakalimutan 'yung nakasama ako sa concert kasi siyempre napakalaking opportunity sa akin ay 'yung nakasama ko si Mr. Andrea Bocceli.

[it was different since I was the only Filipino there and I was among big stars. I shall never forget being part of the concert since it was certainly a big opportunity (especially?) to be with Mr. Andrea Bocceli.]

"Kinongrats niya ako at sabi niya sana ay maka-duet niya ako. Siya ang pinakamabait sa lahat, pero siyemore mabait din sila Josh Groban at Michael Buble," narrates Charice.

[He (Mr. Andrea Bocceli) congratulated me and he said that he wished to have a duet with me. He was the kindest of all but of course Josh Groban and Michael Buble were kind as well]

Charice's mother said she did not do anything during her child's performance but cry.

"Wala akong masabi, kasi halos hindi ko mapanood dahil sa kaiiyak. Hindi ako makapaniwala na ito na ang anak ko, kasama ang international artists. Second to the last pa siya bago kay Josh Groban. Tapos tatlong kanta ang ginawa niya. Nakakatuwa," she said.

[i was speechless; I could hardly watch the show since I cried a lot. I could not believe that this is my daughter among international artists. She was second to the last before Josh Groban and she sang three songs. I was very happy.]

Support from Oprah

The young singer's mother also said that the staff of Oprah Winfrey were at the event to make sure Charice had everything she needed for her performance. The staff also gave Charice a box full of gifts from Oprah.

The gifts included clothes, a bag and other personal items. Aside from the gifts Charice also received a card from Oprah that said, "Dear Charice, This is just the beginning of your big fantastic life ahead. Enjoy it all. Love, Oprah."

Mrs. Pempengco also said that she just heard the news that Oprah's staff are planning to visit the country to document the life of Charice.

Charice reiterated how much she appreciates the attention and support being given to her by fellow Filipinos.

"Sobra akong nagpapasalamat sa mga Pinoy na nanonood doon, ang dami nila doon. Nagpapasalamat din po ako sa mga Filipino dito sa atin sa bansa, sa kanila po kasi kahit nasa malayong lugar ako nandiyan sila para sa akin. Nakakatanggap ako palagi ng news. Salamat po sa kanila," Charice said.

[i am truly very thankful for the Filipinos who watched the show, there were a lot there. I am also thankful for the Filipinos here in our country for even when we were far away they were still there for me. I constantly receive news from them. I thank them.]

Standing ovations in Las Vegas

Charice once again proved her singing prowess as she got two standing ovations for her performance at Mandalay Bay.

In front of an audience of almost 10,000, Charice sang a medley of Whitney Houston's hits- "I Will Always Love You" and "I Have Nothing".

These songs are from the original sound track of "The Bodyguard" which was produced by Foster. "And I Am Telling You" is from the original soundtrack of "Dreamgirls", also produced by Foster.

Charice and her mother will stay in the country for two days. On Friday, May 30, they are flying to New York for the Philippines Independence Day Parade that will be held at Madison Avenue on Monday June 1st.

Charice will be back in the country on the second week of June as she is set to guest in the concert of Air Supply at Araneta Coliseum on June 14th.

Charice is amazing. When I watched her Star King performance, I didn't like it na parang ang yabang ng dating niya sa Super Junior (I didn't like it that she was acting weird to Super Junior, you know with all the eye rolling and what not). But after watching her performance, I was blown away. May ipagyayabang siya, magaling talaga siya (She has something to be boastful about because she really IS good). I am so proud that she's Filipino! Yey Charice! :D
