@andy78No, they are for sure divorced -- YK looked over the final divorce decree in EP 1 as she was at the beach in HK car.

JE continues to say his wife -- to me it is his declaration to one and all -- this is still my woman.  this to me shows his self centered attitude.

There must be a reason the writer seems have other characters-- not call him out on this??????

I throughly enjoyed reading your recent posts about BS and JE - I found my head going up and down in agreement as I read your POVs.

Many more episodes, and so far the writer continues to amaze me on how fast this drama is moving along.

It looks like, and I hope my viewing of actual episode confirms --

That the writer had chosen to allow BS to retain and retreat, at least at this point, with his honor intact (that is, as still a basically good man),  I hope he will retreat for now and allow HK time to first realize that she is HK and allow her to decide, based on whether she has full or partial memory, what her next, at least near term, steps should be.

I actually think a partial memory return would be better for her, giving her time to process her past life, a bit at a time.  Full memory, on top of near death, could very well be too much to handle right now.

Got me to thinking I must have missed something --- want back to EP1 approx 8 minutes the last scene we see of them(before their separate returns to SK)  is YK looking at them and saying to herself -- go a little moderately --- --------- is this Waikiki --- what is this feeding each other rice.  This as JE grabs ahold of SR in what looks a passionate kiss.  So not seeing any boundaries set yet.  She was making the moves on him at the beach before that - but the last move was made by JE.

@mdj101 thanks for the recommendation for the drama the "The Fierce Wife" it is now on my waiting to view list-- don't think my nerves are ready to watch until IHAL is over.  At this time I am re-watching "Yellow Boots" to counter my frustration in waiting for new IHAL episodes  -- "Yellow Boots" in my limited opinion one of the best, if not the Best revenge drama.  A strong, smart, determined female lead who remains that way throughout the drama -- no turning into a dumb character who falls prey to the actions/plans of her opponents.

The Fierce Wife -- I did a Google search- great recommendations---- 

ALSO -- You likely already know this -- but there is a follow on movie-- which picks up where the drama ends-- What a great idea-- I have wished so many times at the end of a drama that we would see a glimpse of what happened next.

While not shown (my recall) I think we can guess based on EP 5, that HK likely used some methods to discredit YK fiancé and the man who tried to kill her, but killed her daughter.

@Kfan7172I can't help myself, I must say "Objection, facts not in evidence."  Just kidding.  HK may have done some things but it has not been shown, yet, that she did anything to YK's fiance or to the man who tried to kill her and successfully murdered her daughter. In fact, she didn't even seem very familiar with the case and TS was briefing her, giving specifics. Imagine if she was a doctor trying aggressively to save a patient, but the patient died.  Then his father attempted to kill HK for revenge and murdered her daughter instead.  Both HK and the doctor were doing their job.  To allow yourself to become unhinged enough to commit murder, cannot and should not be excused with she won a patent lawsuit against me or the surgery failed therefore she deserved to die and my attempt to kill her and instead murdering her child is her fault because she out lawyer-ed my lawyer in a court case.  Until the writer gives detailed examples showing her committing crimes, I'm not charging her.   Right now she looks like what we call Big Law which is a fierce corporate lawyer. In the states, regardless of whether a man or woman, they're given some respect because having the mental aptitude to remember case law and the requisite loopholes to win makes you a rare, sought after breed.  The knowledge she possesses in her brain and can readily access is what sets her apart from BS.  It's also what in my country would have gotten her a scholarship or sponsorship to pay for law school.  So many loopholes.  Like why would HK need JE to support her through law school?  Also, wasn't she already in law school when he was courting her?  She appeared to be in a law library, going through case law books in the flashbacks and then taking a bus separate from him to go home.  So when did they get married?  When did he support her and for how long?  Because once she started working for the corporation she would have been making six figures minimum for corporate pharmecutical law.  More loopholes.

Observation EP 10 @ approx 15 minutes 

Since the thread has slowed down -- thought as we await EP 23 - I better use this chance to post this --- just in case writer starts going the easy way by making BS evil to make JE look good. -- I think that the drama will loss some love triangle tension if she does this -- but that may just be me."

HK/YK2, BS, 4 younger children at home doing school work -- BS sneaks a kiss on HK cheek, by taking the place of baby in the family -- HK reacts in what seems to be a standard manner to all gathered-- so they start to sing the song "Magic Castle" -- this also seems to be a standard come back from BS and kids to HK reaction.

I looked up the full English lyrics-- very nice song - and fitting for the BS character.

The writer/production team -- put that song there for a purpose - as just about everything in this drama,  upon further review has seemed to be very meaningful to the story as a whole.

Only future episodes will show us if in fact it has a significant meaning or is just a nice song to show BS love of magic.

There have been recent discussions on HK the Corporate Lawyer -- So would like to also address and recap my previous postings on this subject -- 

HK was a highly effective, capable, and ruthless corporate lawyer --according to her mother talking to BJS she has 100 cases 100 wins records.  Truly on the surface a great, if not, one of the greatest lawyers.

HOWEVER--------

She is also an unethical, dishonest, manipulative Lawyer, who if her actions were know by the legal System would be sitting in jail.  There is no legal system that allows the use of false evidence and testimony to win a case.  HK is not only willing to do so, she has done so.  In the world of this drama we have been shown that this is the case.

Supporting scenes/events from Drama 

EP 1 @ approx 32 mins -- HK basically tells BS -- Truth means nothing when winning a legal case.

EP 5 @ approx 23 mins -- meeting between TS and HK discussing how to damage, scare, stop actions of YK the whistle blower - shows her acceptance of using power to destroy an honest person to protect the company.  She tells TS they can plant false evidence to make it look like YK has stolen money and secret documents from the company and threaten her with a lawsuit -- of course by planting that false evidence those actions could also result  in YK going to prison.

No EP --While not shown (my recall) I think we can guess based on EP 5, that HK likely used some methods to discredit YK fiancé and the man who tried to kill her, but killed her daughter.

When she recalls these events and particularly if she has already met YK and WJ, -- it will be such an extremely painful time for her.

JE an observation based on EP 22 @ 30 minutes

Somehow JE does not seem so smooth and charming when dumping the women in his life.

HK -- cruel harsh method to drop/divorce -- we saw that happen.

SR --  Perhaps not as harsh, but to her no less cruel (yes we know it is Karma, we justly hate her, but at this point JE does not know her evil cunning side)
He basically tells her it is over, I will ignore, your pain and suffering -- don't like me -go live your life.  

Side Note -- Yes I realize SR will not let this stop her - she will only get worse.

There have been recent discussions about JE parting words/advise to HK outside the courthouse, after their divorce case was heard.

Basically he tells HK do not continue to try and climb to the top of the pyramid, you will be lonely-- but rather, go live among other people.  At the time I thought, YES JE that is very good advice for HK -- basically telling her to move on and build a different life.

Had he actually then lived up to showing his support of those words, I would have continued to think he really meant them.

HOWEVER-

When he again mets HK and she is actually living in that manner -- What does he do -- he goes to his father and says let us bring HK back to her place (that is back to that snake pit of a company).

In my opinion he does that -- to get her out of working with BS, separate her from BS, and bring her back where she will be close to him on a daily basis. Not so caring of what is best for HK in my opinion.

EP 9 As HK gets out of  her car she is holding her white phone -- to understand the message she received on her phone (a Twitter update message) you have to go back to EP 1 beginning- same scene, but here you see that it is SR Twitter update photos of her and JE at beach, acting cute and messages about he is her man now -- this way HK throws her phone to ground in disgust.

Since TS had HK passport taken from car, after his thugs chased YK into the woods.  He likely also has the ring.

I would like to take this opportunity to restate (in different words, but same main point) my opinion on this critical scene -- I hope the writer in a future episode will answer our questions on why the abrupt turning away from the airport.

My opinion-- After stopping on side of rode and looking at his wedding ring --- HK finally had an OMG moment-- that is she thought -- Am I such a weak woman that I would cling to a man and his family who throw me away, that I am so pathetic that I would wait for years in hope of his returning to me, while he goes off with his lover.

Her answer to herself is NO-- abruptly turning away from airport and China to rebuild a better life for herself.

EP 22 end -- HK flashback of drowning VS HK EP 11 nightmare of drowning.

What a Hugh contrast the writer shows us in this scenes.

EP 11 @ approx 20 min -- nightmare of HK in water drowning-- she basically says --- That man trying to kill me ---- that painful man.

EP 20 flashback in water drowning-- her thoughts of JE saying we are drawn together -- next scene JE trying to save her with CPR on the river/lake bank begging her to live.

EP 23 preview says she will declare her love for JE.
Her memory comes back in bits and pieces -- looks like writer may very well have those bits and pieces at first focus in most part on her memory that connects to JE love.

This then makes understandable of how with some/partial  memories she continues her love for JE.

When HK regains full memory of events --- it will really be earth shattering-- really looking forward to HK with full memories returned.

EP 22 ----YK reaction to GN-- 

YK seemed nervous about how GN was holding and crying with WJ in her arms, YK pulled WJ away and tightly held her hand.  Also when GN talked aboutYK working at her home and to bring WJ.   Just looked at her, not usual YK smile I would expect to see when offered a job she badly needs.

Of course when we recall that she knew her Grandmother was not her Bio Grandmother and also that she heard TS and the Grandmother talking when she told him YK mother looked for her, but she hid her from her mother -- it then seems logical that she would be nervous about how GN was acting.

Look forward to GN finally telling YK the truth so we can start to see GN, HK, YK, and WJ all together.

Episode 22 First observation -- still waiting full subs for better understanding 

EP 22 clearly shows in an almost side by side comparison the difference in how BS and JE react to highly dramatic life changing events.

BS is basically immobilized-- needs time to process new information/events.  Sitting in hospital in a stunned, shocked, slow moving stupor.

JE is energized-- Reacts at once and moves with speed.  Receipt of fax -- it is HK -- out the door running to find and hold HK.

WOW -- just taking a moment before we hopefully move on to Episodes 22, 23.

I stand in awe and applaud both @lclarakl and @jadecloud on their postings on page 252 and 253 with their in-depth analysis and  POVs on the BS character in IHAL.

Enjoyed reading and thinking about both POVs.  

In case it has not been obvious from my limited attempts to support BS as a character ,up to the end of EP21, with only the best intentions, ---I fully agree and support the analysis of his character presented in @lclarakl postings.

There has been a lot of discussion recently on HK memories and need for those around her to tell her -- I fully agree that she must be told and sooner would have been better --

This got me to thinking -- I now find it interesting- that to my recall, in all JE efforts to convince HK/YK2 that she is HK he focused only on proving he knew her body -- moles, food allergies-- but not on their shared memories.

Just a thought.

Based on preview info for Episode 22 -- it will be another excellent episode with some important reveals --JE will known for sure that HK/YK2 is HK, YK will be brought more into the story and possibly (have to wait to see) find out about her twin?

As we wait for EP 22 -- A Look back at BS - JE  declarations of love to a woman who has lost her memory (HK/YK2).

BS -- Basically tells HK/YK2 - I do not care about your past, let us be together.  At this point BS firmly believes she is YK -- He knows from his research that she was a company whistle blower who was treated harshly and who was pregnant and had a fiancé that died ---that when he first meet her again she was a cold, nasty women, not the open and cheerful YK from 17 years ago -- he knows from her nightmares that she is in great pain about the loss of her child.  He thinks knowing this past will bring her pain.   BUT- throughout their time together he has tried to jog her memories by telling her about the YK he recalls-- some in the thread having taken this as manipulation on BS part -- IMO I see it as his truly trying to help her in the best way he can.  

JE -- Basically tells HK/YK2 (EP 18 @ approx 48 min) Throw away your name, throw away everything, and from now today, from now, let's start over from the beginning.  At this point JE firmly believes she is HK -- He does know her past, part of which is his harsh cruel treatment and in her face cheating on her during the divorce process.  Does this sound like a man who wants her to recall her past - IMO no.

Sub note -- Yes in Episode 21 he tells her let's find your memories together --BUT at the point when he says this, he now thinks she is YK and it is YKs memories he wants her to find -- why --because that will help him to find HK.

Additional observation- Another contrast between BS and JE that the writer showed us, surly for some purpose.  She "book ended" Episode 9 with these scenes--
First part of EP 9 HK, JE, and JE family -- Last part of EP 9 HK, BS, and BS family.
What a dramatic difference of HK in those scenes. Yes these scenes show us the end of one chapter in HK life and the beginning of a new chapter in her life -- IMO I think in how the writer is showing scenes likely has an even deeper meaning -- for each viewer to see and think about.

Episode 2 --- Basically SH tells TS that MH is feeling bad because of the rain -- he thinks of his friend on hiking trip together, but only he came back.  TS then goes into MH and listens to him having the nightmare.

Additional factors that may/will affect an HK JE reunion--- just thought I would consolidate factors while awaiting EP 22

-- these are in addition to his harsh, cruel treatment and cheating on HK during the divorce process.

While I myself do not believe that the sins of the father have anything to do with the son -- this does seem to be a prevalent factor in Kdramas.

His father was involved in the death of her father -- either murder or accident is yet to be fully known.

His father stole her fathers patent and used it to get rich, while she and her mother loved a poor life.  As did her sister YK.

His father (TS likely ordered it, but as TS said earlier to MH I Am the one to do your illegal acts, so at the least he is somewhat to blame) Killed her sisters fiancé/ father of sisters daughter. Also tried to kill her sister.  A fine point can be drawn here on who killed -- but it is still a factor to overcome.

Following are pure conjecture 

His father kidnapped her from her father --- Even if he did not kidnap her and she was always with GN -- he did use her as a threat against her father. This is conjecture at this point.

His father had an affair with her mother --- this is conjecture at this point.

If HK JE are writers end couple- will be interesting to see how these events are overcome.

@Lmangla--- Your post page 245 -- Enjoyed reading and thinking about your thoughts of how a clown and magical person would apply to BS -- I agree -- and think it is likely (not guaranteed),  that his characters purpose in this drama is to help HK become a better person and only then to depart from the HK JE BS "Love Triangle".

From a drama story perspective-- a BS love story for HK, has second lead and possibly the OTS Love songs going against him.

HOWEVER
First - Let me clearly state that I would not support a BS HK ending that only occurs because of HK feeling any guilt or obligation.  If after regaining her full memories and working through the pain and suffering- she can not open her heart to BS --- Then game over, BS give up and move on to a woman who love you for who you are.

But until that happens, and of course only if the writer doesn't go the easy route of making him evil to make JE look good --- I will continue to cling (albeit by my fingertips) to a BS HK ending.

Particularly with a 50 episode drama -- having expanded my view and actually looked up the English lyrics for the songs "I have a Lover" and "two of us" -- Don't need a Noble Idiot open ending for HK -- if those songs do refer to JE (don't know if they do) then let them end together-- but the writer has a long way to go, before I would see that as a good ending.

Episode 21 breakfast (BS, HK, BJS) scene has given me a SMH moment !

In an earlier post, I had listed the possible Characters (JE, BS, GN, YK) that HK might turn to for comfort, once she gets her memories back, which is surly going to result in indescribable pain and suffering as she tries to come to terms with her actual past.

SMH -- how could I have not listed BJS -- to me it is now obvious that BJS is the one best suited to provide the comfort and help she will need during one of the most difficult points in her life ---will that happen- only the writer knows at this point.

BJS has become the one adult in her life that she looks up to.
-- she had no father to guide her in her youth.
-- Her mother GN does not seem to be one who was capable of giving any guidance or true help in her youth or adult life -- the character GN is played very well as a reflection of a woman who has been defeated by life, and is just hanging on.

EP 21 family breakfast BS HK and BS father -- in addition to BS fathers very appropriate words of wisdom - already discussed by Iclarakl posting on page 238 --- I was glad to see that BS asked his father not to try and trap HK by saying she is family.  This further shows that he has no intention of trying to hold HK by guilt or obligation to the family. He also makes it clear to HK that he is very confused and to give him a little time to got his thoughts together and then he,like she has always done, will look her in the eye and speak honestly
