omg you cleared my last question! it's so beautiful if this is really the intention of the scriptwriter. i wished they had shown it more in the scenes though, or make it clearer from the dialogues because it really confuses many people and it can also create misunderstandings of 'lazy wrting' . eclipses are so good in making stories that i think we can make a better script lol

i am also one of the minority who likes the ending @LyraYoo yay! hahaha. i dont know but its somehow new, unpredictable and it doesnt give a forced happy ending. well bu bu jing xin's story core has always been two people who fall in love in the wrong time and place.. so, it is a proper ending that although they love each other, they can't be together, and they still love each other even long after. i love it but its just too heartbreaking </3

actually i was saying as a comparison, OUR BEST FRIEND turnt crazy from our point of view, in sense that they suddenly behave very weirdly that went against everything we have ever believed and learnt in this world. sorry but i think my language its confusing and it made you it misunderstood. GJ did not turn crazy, but for HS he is behaving so out of control, from her point of view. its like a children throwing tantrum and it doesn't make sense to her. why? because she growed up being loved by people.
second, HS cant smile to him because she's trying to leave him, whereas when she smiles to WW it's like she doesnt even hate him anymore. its like WW is the past and forgotten. poof.gone.not important. thats why she can smile at him (and an emotionless smile too)
lastly, If HS left him for his sake and to keep him safe, it would be like another romance IMO and there's nothing new to it. here, hae soo left because she feels like she have to safe herself. moreover, i think it's really brilliant as it very consistently depicts HS who is a modern woman and a very strongly opinionated at that.
i know. it doesnt make sense to a lot of people but apparently from what i see, the fans opinions are very divided. what i'm saying here maybe does not make sense to you, but it make sense to people who thinks the same as me ( refer to the tumblr link about HS, someone posted it a while back).

i dont understand.. but in my opinion, everything make sense.. i mean.. HS already decided to leave WS so whatever he does cannot change her mind.. Us, as viewers see in whole, that's why we sympathize and feel sad for WS because we see everyone is leaving him.
but if we put ourselves in the character's shoes for instance, if we see our beloved best friend turn crazy somehow, we would try to stick with them at first but eventually we will realize that no one will change that BFF's behaviour other than themselves. rather than us being unhappy, we would leave them right...
same with HS here, she doesn't know that BA will also leave So, its just that she already decided to leave WS and then richard simmons happens, and BA also decides to leave So for his own good too. and it seems like everyone is leaving So. we cant really blame anyone, its just how the palace works i guess... a lonely seat

honestly, i have never seen actor/actresses who play in a drama post this many stuff about the drama they are in, so the interaction of ML's casts in instagram are quite new to me (or probably i never paid that much attention to instagrams...) so lovely, it shows they are very close with one another, and i could imagine a happy environment is all actor/actresses could ever ask for in filmings.. so i'm happy for them
btw whats all this about drama awards? i dont think sbs put up their nominees for this year award yet, right? or do you guys mean the korea drama awards?

HAHA i refrain from saying the bad dramas according to my opinion.. dont get me wrong i LOVE the idea of BBF, and i also watch it over and over (dude.. it got lee min ho and kimbum, duh?), whereas heir is... just nope (lee min ho and woo bin cannot save the drama, ONCE AGAIN i'm sorry for the diehard fans, its just my own humble preference). But if thats the top korean drama of any list then, well, i would just say probably what it means is Top "romcom-light weight-happy ending- go-to k-drama -when-the- good- dramas- are- too -depressing" list.
NB. whereas the dramas like God gift 14 days, W, signal which i think are really good got low ratings also
MSLHR is very good i think. the international version, well... i cant say anything about the editing, but when they edit it again in korean version, its a next level excellence.

I came across a commentary on Weibo about ep 17 and 18. A very fair commentary on the situation and characters. She wrote really well - all in Chinese though. Here's a snippet.

yeah this commentary is excellent... you know its similar like when we really need our mother/sisters/brothers/best friends to stand up for us even when they think our actions are wrong. and can you imagine how dissapointed and hurt are we when they try to tell us that what we did was wrong. we just think that we're on the right and we have such high expectations from them to choose our side, that we forget, the only one who can stand up for ourselves is ourselves. xD poor wangSo have lack of love since he was little and he has such high expectations from HS and BA ... when one rise their expectations too high, the fall will be further and more hurtful, that's why he felt so betrayed when HS didnt take his side

to me, dramabeans is like rotten tomatoes. yes they are movie critics, but sometimes they take it too far.. lol xD not all movie has to be perfect (and in this case, drama series) and what makes any art forms memorable is us fans. i think this drama has suceeded masively in hooking up fans, from the creativity in story line, from beautiful soundtracks, beautiful set, beautiful actors and from the chemistry of the characters. lol i know how you feel coz i too was once pissed coz they gave one of my all time favourite drama (W) a harsh criticism, and i swear to God i can really tackle all of their critics with my logic. but then, i saw their drama scoring (so they have this segment where they rate all korean dramas according to their opinion from scale 1-10) and i saw some of really bad dramas that i cant even bear to continue achieve high ratings there (i forgot what were the titles, but i think there were 3 dramas) and i realize, oh well, dramabeans are just another person like us loll! cheer up chingu! MSHLR is so lucky to have a fan like you (and like all of us)

Chapter 20 of Vol 2 in the novel depicts Ruoxi waiting in vain for him every day after writing the letter, During those last days, she once thought she saw 4th Prince finally there, but it was only 14th Prince. Her last words in the novel regarding him were to her maid, saying "他不會來了。 He will not be coming." It was a gentle statement but backed with the resigned conviction that stems from the void when all hope had gone. And when she died, the closing words of the chapter were a devastating echo of her regret...

Ep 17-18 sped up the sequence of events in the original novel and C-BBJX. We have 2 more episodes to bring this epic love story to a close.
In BBJX, the eagle incident happened during Kangxi's reign. That incident ended 8th Prince's lifelong struggle to be the crown prince/emperor. The attention shifted to 14th prince to take over the throne as he became powerful as a grand general and was the favoured sonwith strong family backing from his maternal side. When 4th prince took over the throne by force - the 8th prince gang was up in arms to fight but were helpless against a very prepared 4th Prince who had Longkodo and Nian Gengyao. 14th prince was faraway from the palace in a battle. Ruoxi was also the first to kneel and greet 4th prince as emperor at the death bed of Kangxi. RX's guilt was extremely deep rooted as Kangxi was a father like figure to her and she knew 4th Prince didn't get the throne through an honourable way. But she knew history was at stake and went along with it.
Hence the 8th Prince punishment to kneel in front of a temple over some incident. Ruoxi prayed on her kneels, followed by standing for the whole night in her room to protest against the punishment. He was eventually released from his punishment but this was the beginning of the rift between 4th Prince and Ruoxi, 13th prince warned Ruoxi to let go of all matters related to 8th Prince to keep him safe but she couldn't due to her compassion to all the princes, not just because of her past relationship with 8th. Things just spiralled downwards from there. 8th Prince's story arch was really sad and I for one felt that 4th prince went overboard by getting him to divorce his wife - causing her to commit suicide. The misunderstanding between RX and 4th prince went deeper and deeper to the point where they had to part.
In the ep 19 preview, the sequence of events are jumbled in my opinion. My version for Ep 19-20 is as follows. Parts of Baek Ah and Woo Hee are not included as my concern is only So-Soo. Points 11-25 could be vastly different from the drama. I just need to get these thoughts out of my system.
1. GJ plots to get rid of Wook - with the help of YH and Won.
2. Wook is condemned to death for attempted treason.
3. Soo steps in to beg for Wook's life - possible that Wook's mother asked her for help and tells her the sequence of Wook's progression into the dark side. Given her personality, she risks her life to help Wook one last time - out of guilt, out of her loyalty to her late cousin, out of whatever residual feeling she has left for 8th. She succeeds in getting his life saved but causes a permanent rift in her relationship with So.
4. Wook reflects on the sequence of events and figures out that his sister has betrayed him for GJ. By then, Jung will have gotten wind of Soo's decision to leave with him.
5. So gets the late King's edict to betroth Soo to Jung. He refuses to acknowledge the edict. Jung shows the hairpin as proof of Soo's decision. The sight of his token of love to Soo hurts GJ deeply. Baek Ah realises the significance of Soo's request and is devastated.
6. Wook loses all hope in his life and family. He confronts GJ for a final show down - tells him the truth about the poisoning incident, YH's involvement and why he couldn't save Soo. He pulls everyone into the blackhole with him - if he has to suffer, GJ and YH will have to suffer along. Soo becomes the collateral damage in this confrontation.
7. GJ is devastated by Wook's confession and links her determination to save Wook as a sign of her love for Wook. He confronts Soo and she admits to her past relationship with Wook. GJ tells her that he doesn't want to see her anymore and she has the permission to leave the palace.
8. Soo leaves the palace and Songgak for good. Before she steps out of the gilded cage, she looks back with tears in her eyes and memories of the past flashing before her. Soo knows she will never see the palace again.
9. GJ looks from afar with tears streaming down his face. Memories of happier times flashing before him. WS is inconsolable but GJ soldiers on. He fulfils his promise to YH to give her an heir.
10. Time skip. Soo starts life anew with Jung in exile. A celebration of marriage is prohibited between them but Jung is happy to have Soo by his side and tries his best to make her happy. Soo misses So deeply and continues her writing every day.
11. GJ continues to consolidate his empire. He has spies in Jung's household. Jung is aware of it. GJ gets reports on Soo and Jung regularly.
12. Jung creates an illusion of intimacy between him and Soo for the spies to report back to GJ, mainly to rile GJ. GJ is devastated that Soo has finally moved on from him and orders that reports on Jung's household must not be presented to him from here on.
13. In the mean time, Soo's health continues to deteriorate. She knows her end is near. Asks Jung to help her to deliver a letter to GJ. She hopes to see him one last time.
14. Jung accedes her request. Notices her handwriting is too similar to GJ's. He puts her letter in another envelope with his handwriting on the envelope.
15. Letter reaches GJ. GJ doesn't read it.
16. Soo dolls herself up the best that she can. Deteriorates rapidly.
17. GJ dreams of Soo. His right arm where he was once wounded aches terribly.
18. Soo gives up hope that So will come to her. She asks Jung to cremate her right away after she dies and throw her ashes into the ocean/lake on a windy day. She wants to forget all of them. She asks him to let go of the past and live on fruitfully. Soo doesn't leave any last words for her beloved. She dies in Jung's arms. Soo finally leaves Goryeo behind. We see a solar eclipse transporting Soo back to modern time the moment she passes on.
19. Jimong sees the solar eclipse and sighs for the loss of his kindred spirit Soo. He knows she is gone.
20. Words finally reach GJ and Baek Ah that Soo has passed away. He is shocked beyond words. He scrambles for the unread letter. He finds it and opens it with trembling hands. He sees Soo's handwriting for the first time. Reads the letter while the audience weeps with him. All inconsolable. Ambulance and medics should be on standby at LJG's fan meeting.
21. GJ and Baek Ah arrives at Jung's residence. Fight ensues. Baek Ah stops them, asks them to let Soo leave in peace after being sandwiched between all the brothers for the past 10 years.
22. So enters Soo's room to find her belongings - the hairpin, the arrow, stacks of her writing...So breaks down once again. He knows she left with him etched in her heart. There was no room for anyone else. He was her eternal love, just like she is to him. She is completely his person, always and forever. Need more back up on ambulance and medics - many are suffering from excessive sobbing and heart aches.
23. So takes her ashes back to Songgak. Jimong tries to explain to GJ about Soo/Ha Jin - offends GJ and is banished. So and Baek Ah throws her ashes into the ocean or Dongji lake as per her wishes. GJ mulls on Soo's odd ways and concludes that he will find her one way or the other.
24. GJ lives for another 20+ years, misses Soo everyday. GJ tries to leave clues for the future Soo/Ha Jin. Dies on a solar eclipse in 975.
25. Time skip 1000 years to modern day Seoul. Your guess is as good as mine. Let's hope for a good ending with all the loose ends tied up nicely.

Do you think the part which i highlighted is the part that was shown in the 6 minutes trailer where HS said :"it would be nice if we had known each other in a different time" while she was looking all sad and looked back at the palace. it's gonna be so sad
but anyways i really hope that your prediction from 18 - 25 doesn't come true, but instead he still has the chance to meet HS for the last time and like spend time together or something. but somehow i have a feeling that your scenario is what the writer has opted for, although, korean dramas usually surprises the audience with a completely different scenario, but well let's see next week...

The story is truly coming to its end, just like HS’s life in the Goryeo Era, and it’s coming full circle, as well. 10 years ago, HS wanted to survive in this Era for her own sake, to simply survive, but now she is praying to have more than 10 years with Wang So, BECAUSE SHE HAS SOMEONE TO LIFE FOR, she decides to fight once more and prolong her life because a long time ago HE BECAME HER SOLE REASON FOR LIVING.
this sentence is so true i'm bawling
that's why their love story is very epic. Tonghua is a genius, so much respect. Plus lee joon gi and IU's chemistry is so on point that this epic love story came to life. I hope this drama gets the recognition it deserves

i really LOVE wang so's gesture to protect HS so the big guy walking doesnt hit her (03.00 - 06.00) the only scene besides the kiss on cheek scene that is very light to watch this episode. other scenes are just too much ;/

Hi! in my personal opinion, its not lazy writing, i think of WS as that anti social guy that never date anyone and never even like anyone, never been loved by anyone. so he's just not good at perceiving things, but instead just sees things as literal, you know. heck no guy would want to try to steal a kiss from a girl that rejects him over and over again right? lolll but he just did it anyway because he literally does whats on his mind.i think this went on his mind : " oh, yeah i like this girl, but she doesnt like me, oh well but i like her tho, lets kiss her" hahahha i hope it makes sense to you

HS didn't leave Wook because she fell out of love with him. Even in the moment after she found out he wanted to kill WS she asked him to leave with her. The only reason she gave up on him was because he decided to go for the throne instead. In addition, HS kept her relationship with Wook a secret.
HS hasn't shown WS how much she loves him to date except escaping the palace to meet him. He drank poison for her, fought for her when she was supposed to be hanged and ended up killing his brother because she did not trust him, yet his feelings remained unchanged. Also, as we can see, WS would have never married YH without HS permission, even if it meant his death. And how could she not understand him wanting to be the only person beside his mother for once. Despite what she did to him, he loved her and desired her acknowledgement.
Granted I always had a problem with this plot. Even in the C-Version.
oh! there you go, the answer to my question. and it make sense too. i think the feeling is tripled because of the existing rivarly between WS and WW, so he's more pissed when he learned that HS promised to marry wook first. nice nice.
but the part where he wanted to be the only person beside his mother is a bit possesive and not normal psychologically you know, he's basically like a toddler throwing a tantrum WHICH IS PERFECTLY UNDERSTANDABLE given that he has never received his mother's love for once and never really get to know the real reason behind it. Love how the writer adds a back story to it, when HS and So were stargazing and So was telling her that he was jealous of jung. that's why his actions in this episode was not out of nowhere. its just hatred, lonely, and wanting to be loved that piled up his whole life, and then BAM he's the king and he can do whatever he wants = Gwangjong aka the new WangSo.
I hope this make sense to you guys

so basically the conclusion from ep 19 preview is, HS will go away from the palace to go with Jung, wook will probably be tortured, and WS will be very angry at her because she promised to marry Wook first ...?
ps. i dont get why WS would be overtly angry about it.. i mean.. it was 7 years ago... was there no "ex boyfriend" term in goryeo or something..?
