himaybe im just stupid or totally missed where it was, but i went through all the stickied topic posts to look for how new members can start posting threads, and i didnt see anything about it in the starting mod posts... i think its probably nice to clearly post those instructions somewhere for new members if it already isnt. thanks.
yes, i temporarily unpinned the regular FAQ where that information was contained because people were looking at both the regular FAQ and the forum launch FAQ. but since things have settled down, i've reupdated the regular FAQ and i'll close the other one. thanks! and by the way, i updated your account.

I would like to re-post my problems, sorry for taking unnecessary space by doing it. But I hope that someone, anyone can help me here. Maybe there are some members who face the same problem:- About the typing in the "Leave a Post"-field: you put your cursor on the field and you type. Normally you type and the letters immediately appear, so everything is in sync. But in my case it isn't. If I start to type, iit is very slowly and I need to wait a couple of seconds so that I can see actually what I typed. I found a solution for now that when I click on the last icon on the top right side saying "show source", I am able of typing normally. In source-mode I can type, in Rich-Text mode, I can't.- When quoting other members' posts, you can't see on the top left side the name of the member, for example "melkimx said"
the first problem, i'll note for vanilla to take a look at. the second, can you take a screenshot? because i see it just fine and i'm curious to know what you see.
this is weird since yesterday , when I type the website soompi.com it doesnt show up but when I google search will appear then click the website its works....something is wrong, how is that?That's the same for me. I believe it may be a problem with the redirection?If you don't put "www" in front of soompi.com, it won't work. The forums work because it's "forums.soompi.com"; but just soompi.com orhttp://soompi.com' rel="external nofollow">does not work.I believe it started not working yesterday or the day before that?is this still happening?

I LOVE the new layout for Soompi, it'll take some getting used to though. Anyway I've been trying to change that title/ those words right next to username (it's there every time I see my post). @melkimx Okay another one, it is so weird that when I am using my Windows machine, I can see the chain link picture (that button used to get the link of individual posts) but when I am on my Mac (Firefox), I'm not able to. The area is still there, I still can click it but the picture is gone.Next, when embedding YouTube videos, I hope you can also let us use the newer code (we now have the option to use a newer iframe code instead of the object embed code in YT). It works in the text area, but when you confirm posting, it doesn't show.i had the same problem with firefox before the layout change, but now i can see the chain icon fine. how about you?

regarding the layout, we changed it due to the complaints we were receiving that it was too different and too washed out. now we're getting complaints that it's too colorful and the main panel is too narrow. it's hard to know what to change because we receive so little positive feedback about our layout until after we address the complaints and decide to change it, and then people want to know why we changed what they liked. anyway, those of you who are having issues with the main panel, please submit a screenshot so we can know what you mean. it's true that the panel is now narrower than it used to be, but for at least one person, there appears to be a sizing issue that's unintended. if you post a screenshot along with your browser and OS info, we can see if you fall into the latter category. thanks.
also, we resized the avatars because people were complaining that the old ones were too small. but as anyone with basic photoshop skills might know, it's not possible to take a small photo and resize it bigger without getting that blurry effect you see. you will need to reupload the avatar, or we can go back to the smaller avatars that people said they hated. we apologize.
as for the crackle ads, we are trying to get to the bottom of those and figure out what's going on. we definitely did not approve these ads, and apologize for their appearance.
some people are having problems with center align. i'll note it and see what vanilla can do to fix it!
for the members list, what it shows is different than what IPB showed in terms of the time span that indicates a currently active user. -
Regarding the Crackle ads:
- Where on the site does it appear (forums, news articles, threads), and where on the page does it appear from (bottom, top, etc.)?
- What are you doing when it appears (scrolling, typing, etc.)?
- Please take a screenshot of the ad!
@Jen., Promote is for moderators only and we'll probably get rid of it (it's not being much used)! And yes, the rich text editor should have been fixed by now. I'll put a note that it's not working for you.

@melkimx Even if we don't see it, the system would still get abused, right? I feel it's still more just to have that text area where we can report it so the moderator will know why we had to click that flag button (in detail). I mean, we all see things differently, it'd be nice if the moderator sees our position, then judge fairly.
@Eja, Unfortunately, you really can't stop people from abusing the system; as I said, the system now is similar to what we had in IPB and there's really no way around it. A forum like this requires some human control at the end of it, and we do hire our moderators to be fair and impartial judges, so hopefully we can trust that they will do their best job.
Regarding the ads, we don't have anything like that (that we're aware of). Pop-ups and ads with noises run pretty counter to the types of ads that we allow, generally speaking. Can you take a screenshot next time you come across it and let me know where you see it? Sorry for the inconvenience.
@Jen. Hm, view counts shouldn't be reset... when did this happen?
@bbly About multiquoting, I also noticed that it doesn't allow quotes from page to page. Maybe it would work if I saved the draft first? I never really experimented with it. Have you tried that? About the quoting, I'll note it and ask.
@bbly As for typing a post... what happens? You wrote "it is veryyyy slowly while typing, it is awful," but I don't know what that means. Let me kow!

and as for the ad, sorry about that! i agree that this is totally annoying so we'll make it so it loads as @HERMIT suggested (where it doesn't force down the rest of the content). we'll also look into making the ad smaller, but that may not be something we can control as well. thanks for letting us know! -
@SunniRise, yes we did! What do you think? Basically, we wanted to address some of the issues with over-organizing and segmenting that some members didn't seem to like, and then I wanted to highlight some of our more popular forums by putting them up top. I'd been planning to make a formal announcement, but I figured first it didn't seem like anyone was saying anything, and then I wanted to get some feedback that we could use before announcing it as a definite change. (Doesn't mean that we'll change everything around if one person doesn't like it, just to let you know.) So let me know!

I'm sorry I'm going to be a debbie downer here, but I honestly can't get use to the new site. I really prefer the previous layout and design better, as it is easier on the eyes. It just makes me dread coming back here and having to scroll down to the topics that I like.Don't get me wrong. I totally appreciate everybody's efforts in building this from the ground up and making improvements so that it is user-friendly to members. I love Soompi and I'll try my best to get use to the layout. II'm sorry if my post offended anyone.Peace and I love you all.
It's fine and it's understandable. We will never go back to IPB, with has many problems as it had (please don't forget that it had a LOT of problems), so we hope that people will get used to this in the long term. But we are working on tweaking the current design so it looks a little more high-contrast and a bit more similar to the old days. I got a preview of it, and even though it's not finished, I have to say that so far, I really like the way it looks. So please be patient! There's never going to be any way for us to make everyone totally happy (some people say they like this design), but we'll try to make as many people satisfied as we can.

Just recently active here, 'coz have a little problem in viewing your site, sometimes ERROR oh!more often..don't know why..>.< Can somebody have the same problem?The post editing came back. Except I still haven't a clue as to how to edit my post.A lot of stuff still needs to be addressed. Like for one, the post preview needs to be back.Now the big one that needs work. The forum activity. It's been about 3 weeks. I can honestly say that the level of activity on the forums isn't that much different from prior to the new version of Soompi. This needs to be worked on, and badly.
You use the control panel options to edit your post. Is it not working? The post preview isn't there because what you see in the post box is how your post looks, so the preview option shouldn't be necessary. As for the activity level, I guess you're right to say that it's about the same as to before the launch... but a lot of times when the design changes, the traffic actually drops, so I see the stability as a positive sign. No?

If you mean the block function, then yes, it's definitely something we're looking to bring back, although the developers are currently working on a few other things first.

Hi, it seems that you have one account on our main site side and two on the forum side. It's definitely a glitch and we've reported it to Vanilla. I'll be honest and admit that it's low priority because it only affects one person (you), but they will take a look at it and try to fix it. In the meantime, we can try to email you with a new password so you can access your old account.

@vistaxp80 I realize that everyone has been waiting a long time for all the changes to be made. We acknowledge this, and we apologize. But for you and others to claim that the developers aren't doing anything is not only inaccurate, it's a little disrespectful in light of the fact that the devs (a team of people which includes soomp herself) are actually working very hard -- all day, all evening, and also on the weekends. The changes they've accomplished thus far include (but are not limited to):
- Being able to edit posts
- Being able to format posts and signatures (correctly)
- Separating the parent forum content from the subforums
- Improving the search function
- Recovering some missing posts and PMs
- Promoting new members to members automatically
- Allowing members to link to specific posts
- Showing who's online at the thread and forum level
- Making the comment field bigger
Currently the developers are working on giving us a layout with a bit higher contrast, and being able to change the topic starter. And they're also (really) looking into the bugs that a few people are reporting. Please be patient.

@daisyblu89, I do see the other account you describe, but with a different email address. Since it was an older account, can you try logging in with the email address you might have used back then?
@chrissatinee, I'm also guessing that a tag wasn't closed properly somewhere. At least, I've seen it happen with our old forum too.
@ebulli3nt, all listed moderators should be active. If there are some who seem to be MIA, then it's probably something to take to an administrator. We would like to have a list such as you describe; it's not top on our list of priorities, as I'm sure you can understand, but ultimately we definitely would like it back!

When I start a new thread in Performers Forum, and it asks me for five tags.and after the five tags it won't allow me to post because my tags are too long,and even after I've fixed the Tags it still won't allow me to go on.hm, i just tried creating a new thread in performers and it worked okay. have you been able to create any other threads? what browser and OS are you using?
@melkimx Thank you for that. Though I had another question why the spam posts made by a user need to be viewable from his profile? Doesn't look nice >.<Ah, I found one more... Before when a user quotes a post with pictures, the said pictures will not appear again and will be displayed as *quoted image* Is that possible with Vanilla? If a lot of users will quote a post like that, then you'll see the same pictures a lot of times while in a thread...we'll definitely list it!

Regarding reporting posts, I actually think that the new system of being able to flag as abuse vs. spam is helpful. From a moderating perspective, it allows us to know more quickly whether someone decided to flag because he didn't agree with the sentiment of the post, or just wanted to mark some spam. I mean, it's not a perfect system, but it's better for us, anyway.
The preview function isn't there because the posts are intended to look as they do when you use the control panel to format them in the textbox. I realize that it's not working as it should, but we're trying to fix that. Sorry and please be patient!

As for the note section in the CP, sorry, I don't think that exists anymore. My understanding is that it wasn't very widely used. -

Any chance of getting the post number back? Some of the thread are moving so fast that it has been impossible to go back and find a post that had a certain link or reference.In the past version, I would just remember the number of a particularly informative post for future reference. Then, when someone else ask the same question or raise the same issue, I could just tell them to go to the post number.Thank you for being so responsive to all of our questions, needs and requests.Wouldn't be more helpful to give them the post URL rather than the number? I guess right now, we have two things working against us in doing what you said -- one, there's no page jump feature, and two, the posts aren't numbered. I'm not new to Soompi, I've been a member since 2006 but quick question are all our post gone? I cannot find my old post, what so ever. My count post is back to zero, so is there a way that will come back.This is so confusing.I'm not sure what you mean... your account looks like it was created a couple weeks ago, so that would explain why you can't find any old posts. In any case, all old posts should have been carried over.

Sorry for the inconveniences caused by the new rich-text editor. We wouldn't have made the switch, except that we think this is better for the long term/more in line with today's standards. There's no doubt that there will be a temporary adjustment period for those of you who have been with us for awhile, but we're hoping you can get used to the changes. We understand your point about the control panel not being a great way to do lots of images, so the Vanilla folks are looking into making an exception for the tag, but we urge you to give the current formatting options a try. Those of you who don't like clicking the buttons in the control panel to do everything can input HTML directly into the textbox by clicking the "source code" button. And we are trying to update all old posts so that they are all correctly formatted, even with BBcode. Thanks for your patience!
Please read our forum launch FAQ to see if your questions have been addressed, particularly regarding the return of the page # jump function and deleting posts. It would be great if we could limit the feedback to topics that haven't already been addressed several times. Thanks! -
Question-Will you guys be bringing back the topic description? I find it extremely useful especially when browsing the kdrama/variety/other drama section because I like to look at the cast lists/genre/any misc info rather than having to waste my time and clicking on each and every topic to get a gist of it. It's very tiring in my opinion.
It's not standard with Vanilla, but we've made a note that we would like it to reappear!
When i'm using Chrome/Chromium, everything looks great. But when i'm using Firefox, the forum (wide) can't fit my laptop screen. Is it just me?I use both browsers in Linux.There are a couple people who have said the same thing, but not a great number, which brings the priority down.
Basically just imagine that I compiled a list of every single issue reported by the members and I'm marking how important they are to your experience (like, if you're not even able to view, post, or login, that's probably a higher priority), and how many members are affected. As I know, three people have complained about the horizontal scrolling. So it's an issue that I'm noting, but the developers probably won't see it as high priority.
@jeeji Please view my post in the other thread where you posted this. You'll need to stop using img tags, and members were never allowed to delete posts in the first place. If you have a post that needs to be deleted, please PM a moderator, although here I've done it for you. And it's preferable for you to get the link from the link icon above the post, rather than just directing us to the thread, so that way we don't have to go through pages to figure out which post you mean. Thanks!

We'll try to fix it there.I created a shop in the Selling and Trading thread about a day or two before the new Soompi. However, it was deleted, I've been waiting it out hoping it'd be restored since I spent a long time working on it.I'll let the Vanilla folks know that it seems like not all old posts have been recovered.
As for the badge system, it's not quite as advanced as Eli surmised, but a lot of what he wrote is pretty accurate. Right now, as he guessed, what we have is the out-of-the-box system that Vanilla offers, but we'd like to create a more advanced system (that may or may not be as he described)! So I think we'll wait until we have a more complete system before we start discussing it in detail. In the meantime, here's a list of the current badges you can earn:
