Hi all,
I'm really sorry about this, but my first clue for this round contained a mistake. I was just alerted that it really didn't quite make sense, so I checked it up and realized that there was a mistake in the way one of the images had uploaded. I've corrected it, of course, but now I totally understand why there was so much trouble with a round that should have been very easy. I'm really sorry! I don't quite know how to make it up -- should we just give this one to everyone, allow three out of four correct answers, make this whole round easier, etc.? One thing I can't do is do an extra round -- I have a limited budget for prizes.
Anyway, I will be back soon with the second clue T_T -

Explanation: The first half of the clue was pointing you to DBSK, who celebrated their tenth anniversary (amazing!) on December 26. The second half was supposed to bring you back to what DBSK was doing about five years ago. They reached the top of the Japanese charts for the first time with a single called "Purple Line." To make it clearer, I put a purple line in the clue. I had hoped that people would Google the song and check out the album cover:
Jaejoong stands out (to me, anyway) because he's in the center and wearing a dark color, where no one else is. I made the image to represent the album cover -- basically, I wanted people to go to Jaejoong's thread, specifically the posts written around the release of Purple Line. I gather that most people did not do this I think one person found it after finding out that Jaejoong's favorite color is purple (not something that I knew or intended), and at least one person managed to find the image by sheer force (wow)! So sorry if this one caused trouble! It's the kind of clue that should be saved until the last round, but at least this way, you had a few more days to think about it.

Explanation: I was describing my own locker in high school… a long, long while ago At the time, I thought this was a pretty good, straightforward, easy clue, because you could use the "four years" to think about either high school or college. Not so! A couple people told me that they thought the clue would lead them to the CNBLUE thread, as it contained the words "code" and "blue," and CNBLUE debuted four years ago. Oops! A couple other people told me that in their countries, high school doesn't last four years, and/or they don't have lockers. I'll try to be more aware of these cultural differences in the future

Explanation: The first sentence was supposed to direct you to leave soompi.com and head to our sister site, Soompi France (soompi.fr). The second sentence was a directive in French to meet at 2 PM… so… the thread of 2PM. For this one, of course, it's most helpful to know French, but you could have Googled "14h in French" and figured out that it refers to 14 heures, or in other words, 2 PM. I liked this one because it allowed you to peek at our French community. They are very active and vibrant!

Okay, how about this? Today's the last day of the first round. I used to make the last clue the hardest, but that really only gives people 24 hours to figure it out. From now on, I might just switch it up, and I'll try to make future clues easier. Thanks! -

For the second clue, you guys are on the right track. But I feel like you need to consider the image more closely.
For the third clue, well, I feel like this one is a lot easier than the second... hm, if people really have trouble with this one, I'll try to help! But try first. Has anyone else gotten at least two? -
I seem to be getting more PM communication about hints this year! Whether you have questions or comments, please put them in the thread. And please do not PM people asking for the answer. That will get you disqualified.
If it's a relatively short thread (~six pages or so), I might just put it anywhere. If it's a longer thread, I would either put it in the first few pages, or if not, I would give you a clue about the exact page number or date you should be looking for. And not all clues are related to Korean entertainment. It does help to have a working knowledge of K-Pop or K-Dramas, but you should be able to figure out anything by using Google, Wikipedia, or maybe browsing the day's events on Soompi news.

You can do anything -- link the image or URL, take a screenshot, tell me what it looks like or where you found it. I do like the entries where people told me how they figured it out. It absolutely does not increase your probability of winning, since I use a random number generator to select the winners, but knowing people's thought processes is fun and allows me to tweak my hints for future rounds.

i've had some bad luck with face shop polishes (chip easily, colors don't match the appearance in the bottle). i like the missha micro-glitter polishes and i've had some good experiences with etude house (some nice glitters and jellies). i hear a lot of good things about the tony moly glitters but haven't tried them. skin food is okay, sometimes can be watery. innisfree isn't bad either. not a lot of selection but sometimes they have some interesting colors.
i don't know if they have this in LA but there's a store in seoul called aritaum with some nail polish brand that's supposedly very popular. i can't remember the name, sorry. -
@lordbordem, oh sorry! yeah, i know you never said anything like that; it's just what i felt after i looked at the hint from another perspective, and i was like, "oh, that's not as easy as i thought it would be."
anyway, just handed out the gift certificates; let me know if there's a problem (in one case i mistakenly issued a $3 GC instead of $50 so that's probably the email that person received; sorry but i fixed it)

Explanation: You needed to know a little bit about K-Pop to get this one (or at least be willing to figure out that it was a certain nine-member girl group). I thought that most people should have known that these were the legs of SNSD in their iconic music video, "Gee." SNSD does have an official thread, but as I said, I wouldn't put the present in the middle of a very long thread without giving some more specific indication about its location. If you looked at the image file name, you would see that it was titled "ye11ow.jpg". 11 is the hint about the page number, and "yellow" meant that you should look in the thread of the girl in yellow -- Sooyoung.

Explanation: Most people seemed to get the phrase, which was "Past present and future." Without leaving any more indication than that, I'm told a lot of people went looking for time-related threads, which wasn't necessarily my intention. My intention was that you should think about the words "past present" in a different light, and that hopefully you would look at the pages of our earlier rounds for the past presents (gifts). "1 3" was an indication to look at the first round, third hint (the rose gold watch). And then -- this is again where I lost more people -- I put another clue in that thread: a recipe for Thai iced tea, to direct you to the thread in the food forum.
Thankfully, lordbordem alerted me that I was being a jerk (I mean, not in so many words) so we worked together to come up with an additional hint to lead people to the right path. He posted a picture of the orange present with teal ribbon, hoping that it might jog the memory of those who had participated in past rounds and send them back to the rose gold watch thread.

Explanation: If you knew how to use Google Image Search, you could have just dragged the picture and found out that it was a picture of (I think) some policemen guarding the hospital where the Duchess of Cambridge was recuperating from pregnancy sickness. Otherwise, I have no idea how you would know what it was. To an American like me, they look like police people from some European country... anyway, seemed like this hint wasn't difficult for most people.

Really sorry about how difficult the second hint was -- I hope no one spent too long thinking about it! Since it seems that no one has stepped forward to say otherwise, I'd like to give another clue about it: When you've figured out the blanks, disregard the third term.
It's the end of the hunt, but still, a couple tips: I am not likely to put a present in a thread that is not comparatively recent (i.e., in the first 2-3 pages of the forum). And I will not bury the present in the middle of a long thread unless there's a specific hint directing you to the page.
So for the last hint, I changed it to something that might be a little easier, I hope?

Hi guys, sorry the riddles are coming later and later! Each riddle is getting harder for me to write -- the later clues especially, as they're supposed to be harder than the rest. I think mostly it's because after three years it's hard for me to come up with new stuff without repeating the old. I'm sorry, too, because it seems to me that people are catching on and I keep having to make the clues harder! When I looked at the first year's contest, those clues look so easy compared to what we're doing now! But there's no going back o_o
